I was in Elizabeth for jury duty and lunch was an hour fifteen. Where to go? Well, when I was practicing law, I enjoyed The Red Parrot so I made my way over there. But the only thing that remained of The Parrot was a faded mural on the side of the building! A place named Dolce was there now. Clearly, I had not been here for a while. Walking inside, I found myself in a nightclub like environment. Staff dressed in black, red curtains, thumping dance music. Not my kind of place but I was hungry and I noticed a city police officer having lunch. The cops know where to eat in my experience. Ordered the Voodoo Calamari and a ginger ale. The calamari was meh. Pretty rubbery and the voodoo part referred to a sweet chili sauce that tasted suspiciously like Frank's Red Hot Sweet Chili Sauce. Nothing to write home about. This place reminds be of a Vegas night club! I don't know what every body else is talking about in their review... but I had a blast here this past weekend. It looks small from the outside and entrance, but once you surpass the entrance, bar, and a couple of tables - there is a whole other world in the back. The DJ was GREAT! We all vibed and danced the night away. The people were classy and not raunchy nor ratched. The night included dancers who gave us a show at the bar - It was really nice. My boyfriend took me here as a surprise and it pleasantly was! We both love to try new places and have been searching for a mature spot to relax and enjoy it over a good meal. The place has dimmed lighting, cozy seating, great music and beautiful décor to create an ambient setting. You couldn't deny the positive atmosphere because we were surrounded by returning patrons of all ages who equally loved the atmosphere. The food is FANTASTIC ! What stood out to me is the Italian choices, I had the shrimp penne vodka it came in a large portion which is great ! Also tried the passion fruit sangria really enjoyed it ! Review solely based on the lounge after 10:30... Okay do ive come here a few friday nights for the party.... its always been a haitian dj and party promoters. Which is fine since i know a few songs... but its always dead and empty until 12 or even 1 when majority of the clubbers decide to show up. Hate that. In terms of the club itself it has very nice decor, greedy mangement who seem to either hate coming in late night, or hate their guests. Regardless of the reason ive celebrated one birthday here and itll be the last ordered 3 bottles (cash) and they want to argue with me about paying 5 extra bucks for another pitcher of cranberry juice (they only gave me one pineapple and one cranberry). After i just spent hundreds on 3 ciroc?! That was the worst experience ever and i honestly lost respect for the owner for hiring people with such a negative attitude to the ONLY PERSON who bought bottles that night. Like my request for their overpriced bottles was a burden to them. I can say the bartenders are very pleasant and they great to have small talk with. Exactly what you're expecting is what you get with this place. Good is reasonably priced and actually pretty good. Not a ton of parking in the area so that's annoying but they have decent shows here such a comedy shows etc. went here with a few friends for a comedy show and although they were having technical difficulties and the comedians probably need a little work on their acts, it was only $10 so again can't be mad lol. A little out of the way for me to go but if someone invited me again I would probably be open to it. read more

We arrived about 7pm. Still dinner hour most places. We both had the ravioli. My friend had a beer, I had a mixed drink. The waitress was very nice and attentive. My mixed drink was made very well. Our ravioli was excellent. They served warm fresh Italian bread. Very tasty. This would usually be a five star review. Only down side was the extremely loud music coming from a back room bar. There weren't many people in there yet since it was early, yet I had to scoot over close to my friend to talk it was so loud. The volume was like it was 10 pm, not dinner time. I think my coworker and I said it best when every meal came out and we tried each: "meh, it's ok." I'm giving Dolce 2 stars: 1 for their effort and the 1 for their creative menu item names. Unfortunately, what you read on the menu isn't exactly what you get on the plate. I was there on a Saturday night with 15 of my coworkers. Unbeknownst to us, Saturday night has a slightly different menu that's a fusion of comfort foods and exotic taste. Each item sounded really good, so we indulged in quite a few of them. I can say with confidence that each one was underwhelming. For example, the cap'n crunch calamari did not have enough cap'n crunch taste. It was more of a slightly sweetened batter, that was overcooked. The pot pie filled with spaghetti and meatballs was literally the traditional dish with some bread on top. We have no idea why it was named pot pie. The list goes on, from the cooler ranch Doritos chili (with a whopping 3 chips on top) to the kettle popcorn crab cakes (a dusting of apparent popcorn with way too many fillers in the cake), this menu is all talk and no walk. Fortunately, I don't like near the restaurant so it will be easy to steer clear from this underwhelming place. read more

If I was able to give this place no stars I would. The service was terrible. The waitress messed up on two of my friends orders and the waitress forgot about two of meals, they finally brought out our food 2 hours later and not only was it the wrong food but it was cold as if it was just sitting in the kitchen for hours. The waitress was extremely dismissive when I voiced my concerns on why our food wasn't coming out after waiting two hours for our food. Went here about a month ago with two friends for some unlimited mimosas event. Food was overpriced and just not good. I ordered some avocado toast and the avocado was not fresh. Complete garbage. Then I had the chicken and waffles and the only thing good about it was the syrup (probably was Aunt Jemima). The waiter came out after he was notified about our complaints and tried to offer us other food, which was nice, but I was honestly afraid to try anything else due to the overabundance of garbage I had already consumed. The only reason why I'm giving 2 stars is because the hookah and music were good and the lady in front was nice. I had a reservation to eat here on a sunday for 12:30. Management told me that they would be open at 12 noon so we could set up. I arrived at 12:20 and waited until 1:30, no one ever opened the door or answered the phone. I had to switch locations for all of my guest. I've been to this little bar numerous times and although it has potential it has some major flaws. The food is not consistent, although some of the staff can be very nice, they never seem to last long, and many nights are simply hit or miss with the crowd. BUT the worst thing is the owner or manager (Italian looking guy) not sure of his title consistently berates and talks down to his staff. On multiple occasions I have seen him yell and disrespect them with no regard for the customers at the bar or in the booths. I attended an event they held. The service was terrible . I arrived at 5pm and was never serviced. No one came to my table to attend to my party. We went to the bar about 6 times to get a server and still no one came to attended to us . When we finally did get to order a hour later the food never came. They were rude and slow. At almost 8pm when they attempted to bring out our food finally it was cold. I would never recommend or visit Dolce again. No accountability from the staff. They rotated the blame to each other. Make sure you go to Wednesday night Karaoke, it starts at 10:00pm. So much fun and not too crowded or stuffy so people will sing along with you and its not scary. I have only eaten there one time, and it was really good, I had an asian wrap. It is primarily a lounge and Italian restaurant, but they have quite an extensive menu, and the french fries are very crispy as well. Ive been going to this place for a long time and it was always a pretty good time. usually i was drunk and out of my mind, so of course it was fun! Formerly the "Red Parrot". Anyone who know what the Red Parrot was, you know that Dolce definitely not the great summer place it used to be. The deck that WAS there was the best. Now that it is fancy schmancy you do not have the same guarantee of running into your friends on a Sat night. The food is over priced and just OK. I do not like it now that it is Dolce. It does not have the same local atmosphere anymore. And they gave up the deck for some walkway with a flimsy tiki bar at the end. Plus a ridiculous cover. read more

I would like to say that the food at Dolce is excellent! The complaint I have is that we came in when there was only one couple in there and did not get food until after other patrons came in and were served and I complained about the wait. I noticed that when certain customers came in, the waitress was friendly and although we have been there on more than one occasion, she didn't even acknowledge us. She earned a 20% tip the times we visited and did not say thank you. Sometimes good food is not good enough. Service is part of the restaurant business also. read more

The Race Card!! This was my first time going to this place, I thought I might try it out, because it looked nice from the outside. So I went in the lounge/restaurant and sat at the bar, I bought some drinks for me and a friend. I looked around and the atmosphere seem nice, but very slow. I then asked one of the bartenders "If they are hiring", she told me she would ask the owner. I saw her talking to the owner and they were laughing and had a conversation. The owner came right in front of me, not directly to speak to me, but to actually look at me an my friend. The bartender and owner then went back to the corner of the bar and started to laugh and still looked at me. After that they started to treat me differently and I was very very uncomfortable. I then realized that all the works were white or light skin Hispanic. So, in my defense I am not unattractive in any way, I'm just not white. I don't thing anyone should go to this place and support this behavior. The owner is very unprofessional and rude, he should have some laws and regulations put on him, so it wouldn't happen to anyone again. This is not right! I will never for back there. read more
