The first time I came here, I had a great time but I will likely not return again after the last time. There were 9 of us. First of all, it was so hot in there and we had to get up from the table so the fans could be turned on - something management should've acknowledged and excused themselves for. We came in, ordered hookah and drinks, and waited a really long time to order food. Our waitress did not speak English. I understand Elizabeth is a heavily Spanish-speaking area, but it's unacceptable to have a waitress who can't communicate to patrons properly, or to not even have someone be able to translate for her. I felt bad for her because it's management's fault, not hers. After forty minutes of sitting there, she comes over and gives us one singular paper menu - for the nine of us. On this menu it says "brunch menu - $49.99". Why were we given the regular menus and sitting there for almost an hour just to be told we had to order from this menu with only three appetizer and 5-7 entree options?? Our waitress was not only unable to communicate to us that we had to order from this menu, but did not understand when I was repeatedly asking for a manager. Eventually I had to stand up and go up to the man at the front who said he was the manager. I asked him why we have been sitting for an hour and just being told this, to which he did not acknowledge - he just told me we had to order from that menu or spend 50 dollars if we order from the regular menu. How are you gonna tell paying customers how much to spend? Ten minutes later, our waitress tells us that they don't even have 2 out of the 3 appetizers. So we're being forced to order off this menu and they don't even have all the options they're forcing upon us. At that point we just paid for the drinks and left. Went to The Garden for brunch with some friends, and honestly, I was pretty disappointed. The location itself is beautiful, with lots of photo opportunities and a great aesthetic. The drinks were okay but overpriced. I ordered the I'm Coming Out, and the mango purée paired well with the tequila, so I'll give credit where it's due. Unfortunately, the food was a major letdown. The chicken empanadas were not good at all. The chicken skewers tasted like they were seasoned the same way as a steak, which just didn't work flavor-wise. The steak skewers were good, but the churrasco was way too salty, and the black rice had no flavor whatsoever. Overall, I was highly disappointed with the food. I considered coming back just for drinks and the vibe, but even that feels questionable since there are plenty of other places that are cheaper and offer a better overall experience. I went with the brunch menu, and with just one drink, my total came out to $85, which felt excessive for the quality. To make matters worse, the server lost one of the credit cards we used to pay the tab. We were told only two cards were given when there were actually three, and we had to search for it ourselves. I've tried to give this place a chance so many times. After the racist scandal they had a few years ago, they've really been trying to change the tone. I go Thursday night for " r&b night ". They charge $5 at the door bc there was a performance by " Kevin ", whoever that is. My only thing that I can say that's negative about this place was that they give you your mimosas with a lot of ice however, the waitress was nice enough to have them make a pitcher without ice for us. I had vegetarian tacos, which were amazing and some Yuka fries and avocado toast. My boyfriend had the bacon rice which he said was really good and chicken tacos, which he also said was good. I had an old-fashioned and he had to lychee martini, he wanted to drinks on the menu but they ran out of ingredients which was a little disappointing but it was OK. Where my entourage sat we had good space and not on top of each other which was great. It was a party or two that came here on a Friday night. I called in for a reservation but was informed that because it was only two people they were not taking the reservations for that amount. Good thing when we walked in we were able to be seated right away. Even though it wasn't in the garden area and it was towards the back of the restaurant. One thing to note there is metered parking across the street in a lot. All staff were masked and the tables were spaced out enough due to covid-19 restrictions. Came during Covid, entrance they check temperature and have hand sanitizer available in the front before you enter. We had reservations at 6pm, we tried to change it to 7pm but they said they were booked. We were a party of 7 people and they put us in a booth that was too tight for us to sit in. The waiter told me that there was only one flavor at the time which was passion fruit. Towards the end of our meal, we asked for the bill. I have been visiting establishments over the past few months and wanted to visit this place. Since it's getting warm out, Sunday brunch is a must! I looked up The Garden a year ago but did not try it at that time. A year ago I was intimidated by the rules, dress wear requirements and and cancellation fee. I went on a Sunday and when I tell you I had a great time, I absolutely enjoyed myself. I wanted to find a place where the brunch had bottomless mimosas, and this place did. The music was well versed, the food amazing and the bottomless mimosas were very good! The only thing I think I had questions about was the menu. I wanted to order off of the regular menu ( empanadas and corn) but I was told that brunch was only being served. (I went at 1pm) I didn't make it a big deal and just ordered off of the brunch menu. LONG REVIEW* I would first like to mention that I posted a TikTok on this place because I did have a fairly good experience but I received an overwhelming amount of comments talking about the racist behavior of the owners/staff. I was made aware there was an issue a year ago. MY EXPERIENCE- I visited The Garden for a friend's birthday. We were in a group of 10 people and came for the prix fixe brunch. Parking is not great so prepare accordingly. I also would make sure to check the reservation and dress code policy as I hear they are sometimes strict. There was a $20 per person deposit and changes or cancelations need to be made 48 hrs prior. We were not all there at the reservation time but we were sat down. They seemed a bit confused and tried to seat us with a group that wasn't ours and when we explained to them we're a different party they did seat us at our correct table toward the back (where the bigger groups were seated). The place is small. The decor was nice and tropical and it's definitely a party vibe. The music is loud. They have a live DJ and he was really good. I expected party vibes so I didn't mind. He played mostly throwback R&B, caribbean, and reggaeton. I'd say the biggest downside was how hot it was. We were right by the heater unfortunately. Our original waitress took some time to come and did not offer waters or anything. I was confused as to who our actual waiter was because a different one came and assisted us for the rest of the afternoon. The new waiter explained we could have unlimited Bellinis or mimosas and it was $20 I believe. I don't really remember how long it was allowed. It seemed like 2 or more hours but it could've been different. He took our drink orders and our drinks were brought out pretty quick. They were on top of refilling our glasses which was good. It tasted like it had a good amount of alcohol. The prix fixe menu included appetizers consisting of guac and chips, beef and chicken skewers, and chicken and garlic spinach empanadas. We all liked every appetizer. They were brought out 1 by 1. They took the entree order at the same time as the apps so they could bring it out right after. Afterward they ended up having a conga line and gave out free shots by the DJ set to get the party going more. I found this really cool and fun. A lot of people stood up and danced all around the small place. You could see the place gradually getting more lit. While me and my friend were away from the table they served the entrees. When we got back we all ate. I ordered the 8osz churrasco with moro rice and plantains. It was very good! Cooked and flavored nicely. I'd compare it to Rumba Cubana. Then they took our dessert orders and the staff came out singing happy birthday to my friend and served her a chocolate dessert. We all had tres leches. I asked if any of the desserts contained nuts due to my allergy and the waiter went to ask the chefs which I appreciate. He got back to me and said no. Everyone enjoyed the desserts. I had the chocolate one since I prefer it over tres leches. Our bill wasn't as high as I thought it's be. It was just $85/$90 per person which is good for what we received imo. I did enjoy my experience but I think it's important to be transparent as an establishment and acknowledge any shortcomings when it comes to management/staff and make any necessary changes. No sports games playing during the NBA playoffs. Only 1 employee of the 4 I encountered had on a mask. No temp checks or anything. I ordered chips and guacamole & al pastor tacos the guacamole was great! The chip to guac ratio was perfect. However, they served my tacos with a lemon instead of a lime. I don't know if this a Jersey thing about overpricing for small things is too much. It's a okay place to chill and vine out but the prices are so excessive. I live in brooklyn and in the city we can get the same amount for way cheaper. The hookahs are no refills they just give a whole another hookah for $35-40 depending on what time you go. I don't see myself coming here frequently cause I just know I can get my money worth somewhere else close to me. The service is very very slow. There so busy that to reach our waiter or hookahero was a mission. They have walkies which low key helped a little but expect to still wait a while for everything. Drinks, hookah, service, even the your food. Once we got a hold of the waiter he mentioned to order everything cause it takes time. Didn't expect to sit there 40+ mins and the appetizers still didn't hit our table. Also the tip is included on the tap regardless of how many ppl u have on your table. read more
