I can't believe I haven't been here before! I guess Gilbert Street is slightly out of the way from the main CBD area, but that's one of things I like about this place - easy parking is a good start!
I came here as part of a Yelp Unofficial event, and was impressed straight away by the array of gorgeous desserts on offer in their display cabinets. The main problem was choosing a dessert ...
But first my long black ... anyone who reads my reviews knows how I love a good long black - and this one wasn't just delicious, it was also beautifully presented. Gorgeous cup, saucer and spoon - am I shallow being impressed by that? No, surely not! :P
Prices of desserts here are quite high, but that is because of the complicated process behind the desserts. While impressive, there is a small part of me that isn't really into this level of high-tech show-off-ishness (there you go, just made up a word), but it *is* visually appealing. Today I tried a lovely chocolate/coffee verrine, which was very much like a high-end tiramasu. I also bought a salted caramel chocolate tart to take home, and this was much more impressive - a thin layer of passionfruit with the runny caramel made this a very different caramel tart than I tried previously. Macarons here are brightly coloured and more aesthetically pleasing than others I've seen too.
A great place to visit - I think I'll be back to try more! read more
