What a treat! The teething issues that seem to be rude on Facebook comments seemed to all be ironed out! I was so impressed with the service, decor and menu despite high expectations to start with. I had the hot choc pop from the winter menu and it was like a dream! The melted chocolate liking the rim was still warm, the popcorn was a compliment and the brownie was nice and crumbly. We arrived on opening day, Sunday. It was well worth the wait and crowds were lining up for this little hip place. It was quite packed and there were booths and tables to sit either inside and outside, the place was decorated with greens and browns, with plants hanging on the ceiling and or place on tables. The booth and chairs were green, the walls were an earthly brown, which made the place very comfortable and gave off a warm feeling. The staff were working very hard that day to accommodate the influx of customers and were bubbly and friendly and asked if we enjoyed our meals and also apologised for the long wait as there were many customers today. We happily waited and chatted away and just admired the decor and sweet and colourful candy on the counter. I ordered a sundae, because it was Sunday. 2 scoops of ice cream in vanilla and chocolate, topped off with strawberries and chocolate topping with bits of chocolate cake, served in a fancy glass. Then I ordered a white chocolate thick shake, delicious. The staff forgot one of our orders and apologised and said it will be another 45min wait for this meal, and gave us free biscuits and ice-cream to the person whom they forgot their meal. Overall, a good experience. I'll come back next time, to try brunch or lunch as the savoury dishes look really good here too. read more

This place is amazing. Their deserts are to die for. Don't order a milkshake thinking it is just a drink, it is a meal in itself. I love my breakfasts and brunches and this place certainly delivered. I had the Hashtag Wow which was amazing. Parking can be a bit of a challenge if you choose to battle but there are enough back streets around if you don't mind a bit of a walk. I wouldn't say the place has amazing accessibility for people who use a wheelchair as it can be a walk to get there and the toilets would not allow much turning space for a wheelchair to access them. Not somewhere to go if you are hoping for a healthy meal but the place is sure to delight those who have a sweet tooth. read more

I was so eager to visit after I'd seen food teased on Instagram for weeks before the restaurant opened. I was excited to try one of their famous shakes and I must say that they do not disappoint! I've visited 50sixone four times now. I always get something new to try and I've never been disappointed. Even with the queue for seats, the staff have always been extremely friendly and have made for a great atmosphere. Took my 17yo here today as a bit of a treat. Was quite full when we got there and managed to grab one of the last free tables. Was cosy and comfie. The waitress was lovely and friendly. I enjoyed checking out everyone else's food and drinks while trying to decide what to have .. we didn't order anything too fancy, a "BAE" each and milkshake for him and iced choc for me. Was very tasty and refreshing. The only downside for me was the prices but you know, you have to expect to pay when you venture into a place like this. Would I come here again? Came here with my partner to see what the hype was about. I ordered the red velvet pancakes and he had the oreo shake. I'm not a fan of oreos, so I can't really comment they were bad because that would be bias. But the donut that came with it was really good! And as for my pancakes, I liked them ! A fantastic place, great food, huge variety, very reasonable price structure, value for money, we attended for birthday sweets. Received a shock when staff presented us with a active sparkler in our shared sweet firing off and wished the birthday person a happy birthday. A nice but totally unexpected event. Young vibrant happy staff, huge range of people, from families to teens and youth just hanging out enjoying the evening. We didn't realize they offer great food as well as sweets. Hipster central and they seem to live for social media! Famous for those batshit milkshakes that contain your weekly calorie intake and everything but the kitchen sink, they do actual food as well. We went there for brekky, my food was nice & reasonably priced but my milkshake (just a normal one) was not worth $8. Service was not great either, they weren't that busy when we got there but we were ignored by two different waiters before getting our order taken. read more

Very average. Had poached eggs and mushrooms. Toast came with no butter or oil. Had to ask 4 times for butter. Mushrooms were ok. Tried 4 pepper shakers, all were empty. Lukewarm tap water on the table rather than cold. Certainly would not go out of my way to come here. Long line and a long wait for our drinks, but we were forewarned of this by the staff. My hot chocolate shake was a great balance of chocolatey flavour, chocolate sauce and caramel popcorn, although the brownie was a little dry. My friends enjoyed their pretzel and heaven freakshakes. The presentation of the food at 50Sixone definitely draws a crowd & is the real winner here. The gourmet milkshakes are painstakingly and lovingly prepared and garnished, till you are left with a treat for the eye as well as the stomach. I tried the pretzel salted caramel milkshake (which is also topped with popcorn, cream, a chocolate edged glass & an Italian donut). The milkshake was very tasty & a generous size. My sweet tooth would have liked a little something extra, say maybe extra chocolate for garnish, but it was still a taste sensation. I also had the sweet potato fries which perhaps could have been cooked slightly longer at a slightly lower temperature as they were not perfectly soft on the inside, but hey it was their first day open & they were doing a great job! Like most trendy dessert places though, the desserts do come with quite a price tag (Think $13-$20 per gourmet shake). I think next time I might try something simpler, like a coffee & a selection from their amazing range of icecream which sent my eyes into sensory overload!l read more

Been twice now and I don't feel it lives up to the hype. The first time I tried the heaven sent shake which is (as all their food seems to be) beautifully presented, a feast for the eyes, but unfortunately not for the belly. The milkshake itself is sub par so you are really paying for a brownie to be put on top of a glass jar and drizzled in choc - would be much cheaper to buy a brownie separately. So second time round I thought i'd try some real food for lunch and an actual dessert instead. I tried the Crispy corn fritters, and they lived up to the the name, crispy to the point of burnt, interesting flavours but nothing to write home about. I waited half an hour for my waffle to come.(waffle it be?) and it was very disappointing, didn't taste fresh at all, very doughy and tough, I couldn't even finish it. Then to top of the whole joyous experience the waitress confidently said she could split the bill for us, stood there and added it up in her head and charged me $2 too much (which I didn't realise till I got home and double checked the menu prices). I got my son one of the choc thickshakes, which is pretty much whizzed up milk cocoa and cinnamon. nothing thick about it at all, as disappointing as the shake in the heaven sent. You get a 'meh' cause that's how I feel about this place, will look elsewhere for indulgent desserts me thinks. Especially for that price. read more

We went a few days ago for a treat in the school holidays. Let me say it was a treat! $25 for a fancy milkshake? Anyway we waited in line for 45mins and another 30mins for our milkshakes. (Understand this is because everyone was after the same once of experience as we were?). Didnt have any food, so cant comment on that. Waitresses gave good polite service and were handing out icecream tastings to people waiting for a table . New dessert/breakfast bar with a ton of hype, but 50SIXONE seems to put style over substance. We went for breakfast on a Sunday morning, had vegan waffles and the avocado salt & lime with eggs. Avo was basic, a good price and classic flavours. However it came with only one slice of very dry bread. Waffle was gorgeous looking, seemingly designed to photograph well but without holding up on taste. Covered in a mountain of beautiful fresh berries, but the waffle itself was dry, rock hard, tasteless and difficult to eat. While the plate looked beautiful, we would have gladly traded a bit of the fruit for an extra, fresh waffle. Coffee was great, juice okay. It seems like everything is designed to look cool on Instagram but doesn't hold up on flavour. We can forgive slip ups on the food, but the final straw was the manager/owner loudly and rudely managing his employee in front of customers. It was extremely awkward to hear him getting frustrated and telling her what to do in an aggressive tone. Manage your staff in private. What a disappointment. I had heard and read so many positive things about this place... seen delicious photos on instagram but none of that matched my experience. Three friends and I waited in line on a Sunday night for half an hour or more. We were then seated outside and waited a while more to be served. One friend ordered the Persian Fairy Floss milk shake, another friend ordered the red velvet pancakes and my other friend and I shared the caramelized apple crepe. My friend who ordered the smoothie got her drink in 20 mins and then 45min later our last two dishes arrived. We were disappointed that we couldn't all enjoy our meals/drinks together.. Not only that but people around us who were seated long after us had recieved their food before us! We were never checked on by the waiter to see if we were ok or where our food was. My caramelized apple crepe was boring, cold and not worth the wait. Their was no such caramelizing.. it was literally cold apple puree on a thin hard chewy crepe. I was expecting thin sliced apples or chunks cooked in caramel and kept warm between a WARM crepe... My friends pancakes where like bricks. They were pretty solid and dense for fluffy pancakes and the milkshake looked amazing and beautiful bit were really nothing special.. I wont be coming back again. read more

I'm reviewing the 50sixone outlet in Mount Barker, South Australia, not this Hyde Park site (as I cannot find the Mount Barker one up and running yet). I work in Mount Barker and thought I would support a new local business but felt let down. Perhaps this is more for people that like the desserts, ice creams but I didn't know that when I thought I'd give them a chance and pop in for dinner. The soup was delicious but a ridiculous price at $15 (served in a very small bowl). It was freezing in the restaurant. I was offered a couch by the cosy fire, however I have a bad back and needed to sit at a dining table (& no, I'm not elderly - I'm in my 30's). I was curious as to why the waitress, despite the massive influx of diners and people waiting, went around to each table to remove the salt & pepper shakers, only for me to ask for it back (for my soup). I asked for a glass of wine, only to be told that they were still waiting for their liquor licence. Some may say give this place a break, but let's face it, if they have successfully opened the Hyde Park restaurant, why weren't they organised for this new opening in Mount Barker. Unfortunately for 50sixone I won't be game to go back and as the story goes, if I'm asked at work, I will tell everyone about my experience (Mount Barker is still country and word gets around). Perhaps a bad sign to start with was the Manager of the shop happily on his phone outside the restaurant when I arrived (at peak time, with a waitress saying 'where did all this people come from?".
