There are so many options on the menu at Chocolatree, it's hard to decide what to order. But having been there a few times it would be nice to see some changes and new options. Chocolate tree is a nice place to go if you're looking for a sweet treat. However, I wouldn't say that it is innovative or fresh when it comes to new menu options and dessert presentation. The staff are friendly and the service is quite fast which is good. The prices are reasonable, you definitely get value for money.

As the newest in the flourishing chocolate café business, Chocolatree has opened on trendy O'Connell street and is putting chocolate smiles on Adelaide residents everywhere. The café offers outdoor and indoor seating and a beer garden out the back which is especially nice. In the colder months too, the staff and more than happy to offer you a red polar fleece blanket from the huge basket and putting that across your lap helps keep away the winter chills. As far as the menu is concerned there is the dozen or so different kinds of hot chocolate you can buy plus coffee and a range of teas. Then there are the small individual chocolate range, which are handmade and all look equally delicious. But Chocolatree has become famous for its waffles and group chocolate fondues which have become very popular. Although not particularly cost efficient, both look amazing and are a great option to share among two people or a group. I also recommend the Jaffa Hot Chocolate if you like Orange, it gets very rich by the end but is still delicious!

Chocolatree is a new cafe that just recently opened on O'Connell St. It has a cosy ambiance with a nice outdoor area out the back with trees and wooden furnishings. In winter they provide bright red snuggies and a gas heater for each table. Although I didn't take up the offer on the red snuggies - I'm a massive germaphobe. The indoor seating could be improved though, it's just too small if there are more than 3 of you. The menu is extensive with an all day breakfast, savoury, desserts, and coffee. Most of the menu items seem mouth-watering, such as fondue, apple & rhubarb crumble, or poached pear & almond pizza. From the savoury side, the "Tree Hugger", a 10 inch pizza with roast pumpkin, olives, fetta, cherry tomatoes, onions, mushrooms and a pesto base. My personal favourite would absolutely have to be the "Mudslide"; a mudcake filled and topped with ice cream, strawberries, and warm liquid chocolate that hardens to a crisp on the ice cream (Magic Topping), all finished off with whipped cream. It is gigantic. You could feed a small country. The mudcake is beautiful; moist, rich, and not too sugary sweet. Strawberries complemented the flavours well, and who doesn't love reminiscing the good old days when you had ice cream with magic shell chocolate topping as a kid? The price range is reasonable for a dessert café in North Adelaide, plus long trading hours and easy street parking. The store interior is well decorated with an intimate feel, the staff are friendly, and the menu is divine.

I have to admit, I am a softie to any cafe which has a large supply of gorgeous chocolate treats. I find that it would be extremely hard to simply come in for just a cup of coffee (which are not served in ridiculously small cups like many cafes I must add), with the lovely supply of chocolate bits, mouses and cakes. The indoor setting is quite cute and cosy, but I especially like the outdoor setting as it is quite large with plenty of room to find a spot to sit. I expect that it would be a gorgeous setting on a nice cool day with a hot cup of hot chocolate. The coffee itself was a little milky for my liking yet still quite enjoyable, a lot better than the bitter coffee you get at a franchise such as gloria jeans. I also indulged in a simple piece of dairy chocolate, finding it to be very creamy and delicious. I am extremely keen to go back for a proper meal.

Walked in on a Monday night and the store was relatively quiet, until about five minutes after we sat down, the crowds began rolling in! Now we only came in for dessert, so we ordered a dessert pizza of sorts. It was miraculous. A small sweet pizza base covered in chocolate sauce with marshmallows, turkish delight, strawberries, vanilla ice cream, and more chocolate sauce. I added a photo for you all to see. The two of us couldn't finish it together. It was just too much goodness. The staff were friendly and our food was brought relatively quickly. The atmosphere was relaxing and exotic. Definitely worth a trip into.

I went to chocolatetree Under high recommendation from friends, and was not disappointed, their waffles are fantastic, perfectly soft but yet crunchy, great taste and texture, there was ample melted chocolate and ice cream but not overpowering, price was average but reasonable compared to other places, the white hot chocolate was very creamy and tasty, one of the best white hot chocolates I've drunk in my life, the ample outdoor seating is a great touch also

The raspberry sorbet with the chocolate delice was amazing. Best sorbet I have had.

The menu is large and interesting enough with not too many "generic" options except the ones you want such as Chocolate Fondu for 2 or 4. I had a Banana, Peanut Butter, Cookies, Vanilla Custard, Creamy concoction in a jar which was topped with icecream very very delish and beautifully presented. My companions had waffles, ice-cream and a yummy chocolate and berry mousse/pudding. All were very pleased with their orders and there was a lot of "would you mind if I had a fork full?" going on. Coffee and desserts came out all together and our table was cleared in an appropriate amount of time after we had finished our plates. Being a group of 6 is probably a little too large for the small outdoor space on the sidewalk with round tables and various chair heights, but we made it work. The only down side to this spot is that the coffee is "good" not "awesome"

Luckily, a table had just left, with a quick clean of the table - we were seated. Decor - Candles! I love candlelit places at night, the chairs were also quite comfy, some places which have the same modern/sleek vibe to it like this place, have uncomfortable plastic or metal chairs, but we were seated in comfortable cushy bliss for your butt! We ordered - I had the Cherry Ripe Waffle and one of their 'house specialities' the St Louis Hot Chocolate' Waffles: I have to admit I was disappointed in the waffle, this is what pushed it down to 3 stars rather than 4. The waffle was warm, but it tasted like it had been reheated, or simply defrosted and stuck in a microwave. It wasn't crunchy or fresh, the texture was chewy and dry. I chose this dish because it mentioned white chocolate and almonds, it was presented on the plate, but the white chocolate tasted like melted white chocolate buttons from the local supermarket, too sugary and it hard almost hardened when I tried to scoop it up to put on my waffle. The 'French Vanilla Ice Cream' tasted distinctively like Bulla Vanilla ice cream. The cherries, and cherry glaze were delicious though. The Hot chocolate: Average more or less, it was a good hot chocolate, but I've had better in most other places, for a house special, again I was hoping for a bit more, but I might be a little harsh here, as my friend said he absolutely loved it. I'd order it again if I came here, and that is usually a good sign. They had free water available for patrons, in the water was such things as citrus; oranges, lemons, lychee, and strawberry, I thought that was a little fancy. It was a nice touch to the place. If I came here again, I'd avoid the waffles completely, as they were sub-par. But the venue is a nice place, with a positive atmosphere. Why no white hot chocolate? This makes me sad.

When that has happened I do try other types of coffee from his available collection, but mostly it's the Mexican Organic I go for. Ross and his team have a very good range and even though it is an expensive item, some things in life just have to be right before I can deal with them. I do not like the effects of instant coffee on my system, I almost always end up with a stomach gripe if I drink instant coffee, and you simply don't want to know about that. So I usually drink plunger coffee, it is one of my special things in life I suppose. As far as The Coffee Bean Shop goes they stock a range of implements to create coffee in - mostly the little Italian stove-top espresso jugs, but I tend not to favour them because they are made from aluminium and I understand that too much aluminium heated and exposed to something you then drink can cause some brain function problems over time - just something I read that has stuck. That's why I plunge, but you know, the occasional aluminium jug espresso coffee is no big deal. They do the grinding for you if you need it done, and they use a range of coffee packets that are a nice plane brown bag, so its a pretty sustainable system. Their selection of products includes some pre-ground coffee beans in little plastic pails with a lid, a variety of fragrant and tasty teas, blends of the tea, and the coffee and tea making equipment I mentioned above plus other stuff and some specialty sweets that you'd have with a beverage, or give as a gift - try a chocolate coated coffee bean - wow!

It looks amazing, they really did a great job. I am happy to see that this stall got updated as it is often one of the first stall you see when entering the Markets from the carpark escalators. The staff at this stall are always very friendly and happy to have a chat about the different varieties of coffee and what they taste like. You will find some amazing beans from all over the world. In particular my partner and I are quite fond of the Organic Mexican beans. Full flavour while being quite creamy and nutty. If you have a tighter budget, why not try their house blends. They are not too bad, the espresso blend is probably the best they offer in that range. If you need ground beans, they will grind them to the style that suits your brew equipment. We prefer to grind them at home to ensure that the coffee is fresh. If you are searching for a gift for a coffee lover, look no further! Purchase them an Aeropress which are sold here. They are a single cup air pressure plunger. They make the perfect brew away from home. My partner loves his and uses it at work every day!
