But why just sample a spoonful, have it in a dish or a cone Take a fresh made waffle put two of your favorite gelato flavors on it. Add a second waffle on the top and drizzle some chocolate syrup over the top waffle then spray the top with whipped cream add a cherry now that is a delicious dessert. Is it just me or has everyone been fooled into thinking gelato is better for you than ice cream? Needless to say I use this excuse regularly to come to this Gelatissimo before the movies at Palace Nova or half way through the night if Cibo is closed. I always hover between their giant cabinets full of sorbets and gelato like an excited 4 year old who can't pick which 2 flavours she wants in her cup. The cabinet solely chocolate flavoured gelato is always on the cards for at least one scoop of their bacio, dark chocolate sorbet or Ferrero Rocher (reminds me of Cold Rock days) and then normally I will get a lemon, panna-cotta or green tea matcha scoop to top it off. Service is incredibly efficient and they pump through the line quickly and always with a patient smile whilst you ask for free samples or umm and ahh as to whether green tea gelato goes better with dark chocolate or bacio. The gelato ain't cheap though and if you want 2 flavours you do have to get a medium sized cup, which I sometimes resent because I'm still convinced I'm being healthier by getting gelati over ice cream. read more

Ah, Gelatissimo... Who doesn't like icecream? Especially gelati? And just say the name - Gel-a-tiss-i-mo, sounds so Italian right? They are always open late in the middle of Rundle Street and the thought of getting the exotic flavours like pistacchio, belgian chocolate and caramelised fig. A couple of months ago they had a chocolate special on, and the whole front display was all chocolate flavours, like 20 of them at least! Their usual displays are pretty cool anyway, with chunks of fruit, swirls of chocolates and sprinkles of nuts topping every flavour. Gelatissimo do bambino cones on a little platter, sundaes, brownie with icecream and Christmas pudding. My favourite is getting melted Nutella on top of my icecream. There is outdoor seating as well as inside and there is an upstairs secluded area, just ignore the stripper pole on top the bar... Must have been from the previous business. read more

Gelatissimo is any ice-cream lover's dream come true; a Mecca to ice-cream fiends the world over. Their huge range of flavours is phenomenal and leave you perplexed as to which you're actually going to try. There are plenty of good choices ready for scooping, and you might find yourself stumped when you actually reach the counter. Their version of the coconut gelato is the best I have tried anyway, and put together with double chocolate, you've got yourself an unbeatable combo. It's always interesting to switch it up each time you return to see what works and what doesn't. Some of the flavours are more interesting than actually tasty though. For example, I'm sure Red Bull flavoured gelato seemed like a good idea in theory; but in practice, it's just plain weird, and energy drinks should not be turned into ice-cream - and I'm not sure if the "energy" components even come with it. In regards to the non-gelato menu, their coffee is up-to-scratch and they offer sandwiches throughout the day that are actually pretty darn good. The brownies are also dynamite, and when warmed up with a bit of gelato on top, they are sensational. read more

As I brought the spoon to my mouth, I closed my eyes in anticipation of the flavour about to hit my taste buds. I thought I had died and gone to gelato heaven! I not often travelled down to this end of Rundle Street, but a new vintage store opening had bribed me. On my way I was distracted by the lavishly filled gelato tubs only inches from the path. I stared in awe and after a minute or so looked up to find a man smiling at me as if he knew what was going on in my head. He went on to offer me a tasting of as many flavours as I wished and I continued to try almost every one there was to offer. Picking your gelato is easily the hardest decision you have to make. You have to remind yourself that you can come back another time and try the other flavours just so you can decide upon something. I went for fruity first, getting raspberry, lychee and mango. My friend simply got vanilla, which I thought was a waste, but as I had a taste, instantly got jealous of his selection. There's always a shocking flavor daring to be tried as well. Last time I was there it was a vegemite-flavoured gelato! I asked how popular it was, not brave enough to try it myself, and he laughed and said it was mainly there to show he could make any flavor gelato imaginable. Impressed? I was! Gelatissimo not only has the best tasting gelato imaginable, but it also has the best variety and service. I love Gelatissimo, we have it in Melbourne too but when I'm walking down Rundle on a hot day, if I pass it I just can't help myself. I'd normally go for creamier flavours like mint chip, caramel, honey crunch etc but the other day I had chocolate lemon and limoncello - just felt like a change and there's a real lemon-y theme going on at the moment. It was unbelievable. I should really change my flavours a lot more but I get comfortable. The store is well located, it's usually pretty busy and service is always decent. *They could be slightly more generous with the napkins though, that's the only thing! :-) read more

What a range! The gelato here is delicious, so smooth, creamy and full of flavour. I really don't think it could have many calories either since it's not full fat ice-cream. Much healthier, right? Yes, right - thought so. The staff has always been so fun and friendly. I held my art exhibition next to here a couple of years ago and bribed all my helpers over the month, with gelato. If I'd realised how welcoming and supportive they were going to be, I would have sorted out some kind of reciprocal promotional arrangement. I could just see everyone on opening night, enjoying art and gelato. As it was they put some of my brochures on their counter and I promoted them in kind. Today I was trying to purchase a gift voucher. They don't do them any more, however they helped me out by giving me a branded cup, so I could put money in it to make my own, and then they gave me 'upsize' vouchers for my two recipients. Their enthusiasm was also contagious and I left feeling very happy! I also love that you can try before you buy here and they are very patient during the necessary testing, contemplating and decision-making process. Did you know you can get a scoop of all the flavours on one massive dish? If that's too many or you don't want fruity and chocolatey together, they also do all the chocolate flavours as one massive tasting plate. And of course, with the proximity of Rundle St shops, there is plenty of incentive for walking up and down window shopping, walking off those non-existent calories! read more

When I think about the time I spent in Italy, I reminisce about two things, their pizza, and gelato. The gelato was mind blowing. Rich, smooth and creamy, with flavours such as nutella chunk (which is as good as it sounds) and pistachio. Gelatissimo is the closest thing I've found to real Italian gelato, (except for a little place in Tassie which recreates the experience perfectly). The service is great too, and they are not shy about piling up the gelato. You can choose a scoop of this and a scoop of that if you can't decide on a flavour. Me, I'm a chocolate and pistachio girl. The pistachio has a real pistachio taste, not just essence and food colouring. This is really really good, and definitely worth trying. read more

This has to be the best gelati in the world. Seriously! It's not cheap, but you can taste the goodness and quality ingredients in every bite. I fell in love with Gelatissimo in Watson's Bay in Sydney and now go out of my way to get this delicious serve of heaven whenever I feel the urge for ice-cream. A lot of effort goes into the presentation in the stores with an amazing display of colours with chunky bits of fruit or chocolate swirled into each flavour. They can also make up tubs to take home and make delicious little bambino cones in a variety of colours. These are great for parties. If you can't get into Rundle or Gouger Street, I'm pretty sure the tubs and bambino cones I've seen in the freezer section of some Foodland stores is the same Gelatissimo (someone else might know the answer to this). This store is popular, but it's worth the wait and the coin. read more

The first time I tried Gelatissimo was when I was overseas, and I thought it was the best ice cream ever made. Then it landed in Adelaide a couple of years ago and I was ecstatic, telling all my friends. Then I tried it and it tasted different to the one I had overseas. It was creamier and milkier, and I didn't even think it was possible to get any better than the one I'd already had. Ever since then, I have been living off their cookies and cream, ferrero rocher, belgian chocolate, and mint ice cream. Now, Cibo gelati still remains my number one favourite gelati of all time, but they're so expensive and so tiny and sometimes I just want a freaking waffle cone. Gelatissimo do a great range of thick shakes too, and ice cream in waffle bowls, and cakes, and macarons, and everything else brilliant under the sky. Their late trading hours and Rundle St location ensure their popularity, so be prepared to queue up for a while especially on Friday nights. read more

Vegemite flavoured gelato. Yep. They had it at one point. Most any flavour that would suit gelati, Gelatissimo provides. Perfect to have on a Summer night after a meal on Rundle Street. They also have some cakes on offer, as well as waffles! There is nothing like just getting a massive cone of chocolate gelato and for a short but precious moment, you become a child again. read more

Gelato here is fantastic. While staying in Adelaide for about 6 days I stopped in for Gelato at least 3 or 4 of those days. They have a wide range of flavors and the waffle cone is definitely a must. I returned to Gelatissimo after first trying their gelati from the location in Melbourne. However, this review is for my horrendous service in the Adelaide location. I haven't had any bad experience in Australia until coming here one summer night in 2012. I patiently waited in line until it was my turn to order my gelato. Once it was my turn, both staff from Gelatissimo skipped me and attended the customers after me. Some customers apologized for the service (or lack thereof) but that didn't stop me from saying that it was ridiculous that they were ignoring a customer. It wasn't until everyone else acknowledged that I came first that one of the girls attended me with a fake smile as if nothing ever happened. No apologies. After storming out with no gelato, one of the local customers said that some Aussies are racist towards Aboriginals, and because I was with a black man (African-American), they probably assumed I was associated with an Aborigine. o_O At least this was their guess as to why the two young girls working in Gelatissimo were so rude. The local also said he's never had bad service from here before, but that was a first. I am so glad Gelato Bello were above discrimination (against blacks, Americans, who knows) and because of the lovely service from them (and for the delicious gelato of course), I would recommend anyone to support the business of Gelato Bello instead. read more
