Well this time I really mean it. The mini cakes, pots of mousse, patisseries and slices here look like they belong in the Louvre, not a dessert cabinet. It is the perfect small birthday present for someone at work you're not besties with or to show off to the family in-law after a fancy dinner. Ranging from $6-8 per item you will want to savour every moment, but that isn't hard because there are always so many taste and mouth sensations in every bite from snap and crackle to pop! So after some long hard research my favourites have to be the: - Lemon meringue - Hazelnut crunch - Green Sencha Mousse - Strawberry and balsamic ice cream - Chocolate truffle mound thing And yes, there are more than that to choose from. Trust me, you will thank me for that guide next time your taking away or dining in store over a coffee. My biggest problem is that they aren't open to cure my late night dessert fix. I guess I'll have to continue to put up with eating dessert in the middle of the day! *sigh*

They have a range of different gateaux, macarons, and even their own homemade ice creams (seriously, how cool is that). Some people call it a dessert bar, but it's really more of a patisserie. They aren't open late and don't have much space, so they don't really fit the dessert bar mould. If there's one issue with the store it's that it's maybe too small to truly sit back and relax in. They'll happily package up any sweets you want to take home, and a cake from here would make a great little gift. Just make sure you're transporting them well, because it would be such a shame to get it home and not have it look as gorgeous as it did when you bought it. Prepared to be amazed.

I've tasted so much better elsewhere by manufacturers who are not afraid to add plenty of flavour and add the required amount of real sugar so it's nice and sweet. When I'm home, I'll do my own dieting, you don't have to do it for me, but when I'm out and about, I want a little treat.

I think it's a family business and they were from Uzbekistan, that explains about their willingness to be at the workplace and the decorations which adorn the shelves were from their home country. Coffee were from Grinders and they were good. They have been there only 3 months and they should have plenty of exposure with the Austin Street food and wine festival today. We were keen to sample mum's doughnut and boy we were glad we did. At $2 a piece one can't get anything these days apart from a biscuit at a cafe, we were so impressed with its lightness and just the right amount of sweetness we bought 3 to take home for family members! Would like to come back for breakfast and lunch one day, they deserve more customers.

Not that anything is wrong with Gelatissimo but damn 48 Flavors had me really impressed. Because they have flavours that other icecream places do not have. Actually, for me it's just 3 flavours in particular. Durian, Taro and Black Sesame. With durian, it's probably one of the most divisive foods I can think of. People either absolutely love it or hate it. It has a custard-like texture with a rich creamy quality. However the people who absolutely despise it will point out it's pungent aroma, and pungent it putting it very politely. Basically it smells like rotting fruit mixed with other things. It's considered the Kind of Fruits in SE Asia and it's definitely one of my favourites. I wasn't going to get anything...until I saw the sign saying 'Durian Icecream- Tasting Available.' I think my eyes widened a bit and I immediately went to buy a scoop. I tasted before buying and then changed my mind to 2 scoops!! It's that good. The icecream's flavour 100% matches that of ripe durian, and I was kicking myself that it took me so long to discover it. I'm definitely coming back to try a few more flavours, and to get the durian a few more times. However I may need to sit a bit further away from my friends, because they kept pointing out the smell!

South Australia has a vastly different social history as a result of those origins and part of this is the influx of Italian and Turkish migrants after the second world war. Yes they went all over Australia, but many of them came here, and they were the ones who wanted to set up business or work a trade - and they arrived with a great deal of culture that was centuries old and rich in tradition; part of the tradition was coffee. Elsewhere in the country they were looking for work on building the Snowy River Dam and similar large infrastructure projects, here they wanted to stat a shop or a market garden or a winery... There's a lot more to it than this, but in so far as this being a potted background, it's one explanation for the eventual outcome. Now South Australia has arguably more coffee drinking citizens than any other capital in the country. If you take a look around there are an awful lot of coffee shops here - and none of them seem to be empty. It is a viable option to do a course in Coffee Appreciation here at the Coffee Academy, I kid you not; and it's not a bad course. For just under a hundred dollars you can get the extra insight into coffee you have always needed to give you that edge in the coffee wars. The coffee wars? You bet! With the amount of coffee shops we have, everyone wants to have an edge to bring the customer back for their second and third cup. You can do accredited courses in serving espresso coffee and running a coffee service believe It or not. Best way to get a foot in the door of the Barista business. The short courses are presented quite seriously but with a light touch. You ask questions when you feel you have not heard everything you were hoping to hear and chances are Brian, or whomever is heading the class will give you the answers you need or a good lead in terms of finding them. Brian Raslan is the Brian I refer to, a nice guy with a heart of gold and did I mention he teaches the courses and is an award winning internationally recognised Barista judge to boot?

It is at times a bit expensive due to the fact of the products being imported from the states but I have said it before and I will say it again, I have no issue spending that little bit more for top quality.
