The line up (look at them trying to look oh so innocent)

Ok I need to come clean. My long standing, serious relationship with SA's most infamous chocolatier has become complicated and my eyes and mind have wandered. Yes there is a new man in my life and his name is Steven. Don't look at me with those judgy eyes, I can't help it! Steven tempts me with his dark chocolate and cocoa nib blocks, salty caramel tarts and spanish hot chocolates. Try as I might I can no longer accept the imitations and like a Farmers Union Iced Coffee, it's STH's Belgian chocolate or it's nothing. Service is lovely, coffees are smashing and made by an up and coming Adelaide barista worth watching. Spanish hot chocolates taste like Christmas and salted dark chocolate caramel tarts literally melt on the tongue. I've heard Steven has other women in his life and has named ganache, truffle, and even earl grey tea jelly chocolates after them, but this talented, endearing and passionate young chocolatier (and his bubbly, equally as talented wife) will always have a gooey, caramelly soft spot in my dark chocolate heart.

Walked in looking at the types of desserts and chocolates with my jaw on the floor, undecided where to start and more importantly what to order! Everything looked so pretty and perfect. Arrived around lunch time with the place empty which was good as we got to know the employee (who was lovely must I add) as he told us what was popular and what he recommended. Of course, I had to grab a salty caramel tart with a hot chocolate with coconut milk. And AMAZING, the shell of the tart just melts in your mouth and the chocolate wasn't heavy or sickly at all, perfect! It was my first time trying a dairy free hot chocolate so I didn't know what to except but OH MY GOD, it was so heavenly good and creamy, overall was the best hot chocolate I've had. Genius to replace milk with coconut milk, amazing thinking! I'm already rating Steven ter Horst Chocolatier 5 stars and I've only tried a salty caramel tart and a hot chocolate, defiantly will be checking in much much more. See you soon Steven!

We were going to try somewhere else and decided that it was too busy to galavanted down Rundle St to the next place that Yelp! mentioned for desserts...wow I'm so glad we did too! Stumbling in the first thing that caught my eye was the eastern city styled atmosphere being captured and brought over to sunny lil' Adelaide. It's like someone went to an established venue in Sydney's Surry Hills or Melbourne's Prahran and grabbed the most chic chocolate shop and cut it out the wall dumping it in the heart of the eatery vibe of Adelaide. Amazing. I've been away from Adelaide for so many years now that I can't remember what was here but I won't forget this venue ! I noticed these jars across each table and instinctively walked over and opened one at the end of a bench some people were seated - sugar ! Brown sugar ! Divine ! I needed to eat here. So my partner and I walked over to the menu and I couldn't have been more excited at the choices. I picked a chocolate from the display cabinet and asked him to get me a chilli soy free hot chocolate then went to sit down. My partner got an iced coffee and some fancy dessert for us to share too. The tastes are incredible. I couldn't help but ask if they made the chocolate from cocoa beans themselves because it was just out of anyone's league. I wouldn't go here for a date, because the place can be a little noisy, but if you have friends from Sydney or Melbourne (I lived in Sydney for 10 years) who turn their noses at the venues on offer - bring them here ! I can't fault the staff, the atmosphere, the culture, the food, the selection or the quality of the whole experience. It's fantastic ! The only improvement I could offer would be to have serviettes available because I made a mess of chocolate all over my face which needed to be licked off half way down Rundle Street ! LOL !

OMG!! I wasnt sure that Rundle St could cope with yet another Chocolate related dessert bar, but boy was I wrong!! I had heard really good things about Steven ter Horst in their previous Unley location - but had never managed to make it out there. So when I saw they had moved into Rundle St, I simply HAD to give it a go. So I arranged dinner with friends of mine last night in Rundle St, specifically so that we could go here for dessert. We were not dissapointed! When you walk in you are greeted with the very urban, industrical feel of the shop - which is almost a juxtoposition of the smootheness of the chocolate. There are shelves of take home chocolate all pre packaged in a number of different varieties, and a huge display cabinet filled with individual chocolates, and some of the most amazing desserts I have ever seen. The styling of the desserts reminds me of the desserts at Lux Bite in Melbourne, very similar, and in saying that VERY stylish. There were three of us who were partaking in dessert last night :) The first friend ordered the Salted Caramel "Special" and a Latte, the second friend ordered the same special and a Hazelnut Hot Chocolate and I ordered a Raspberry and Lime Tart, four of their individual chocolates (1x Salted Caramel, 1x Raspberry, 1x Mangrove Honey and 1x Chilli Chocolate) and a Fruit de Bois Hot Chocolate. As you can see from the photos I posted, everything was VERY well presented, it looked, and also tasted delicious. The Salted Caramel Special was a salted caramel tart with vanilla bean icecream and chocolate and salted caramel sauce. This was divine!! My Raspberry and Lime tart was also AMAZING and was a nice change to what would have otherwise possibly have been a chocolate overload! Out of the chocolates that I tried my favorite would have to have been the Raspberry one (which was the square one with the red bits in it in the photo) The others were nice, but I am sucker for Raspberries :) For me the best thing consumed would have to be the Fruit de Bois Hot Chocolate!! This was AMAZING, and I definitely need more of this in my life :) This will definitely be somewhere that I return to!! :) Well worth a visit :)

Jar of goodness and mini gateaux

My favourite dessert here is the jar of goodness. Steven ter Horst's signature salted caramel drizzled over a salted caramel tea cake with vanilla bean and chocolate ice cream. Seriously should be renamed heaven in a jar. It's drool-worthy. The mini gateaux are delectable and worth a slow but steady tasting through all of them. The store also offers excellent chocolate gifts especially for Christmas and Easter; and I often bulk buy a variety of chocolates for events which are always met with big smiles. My favourite is definitely the dark chocolate with honeycomb shards!

Finally got the chance to visit this store on a holiday break back to Adelaide! To my pleasant surprise, it wasn't packed on a Monday night and we easily found a spot. Perhaps it was the cold and rainy weather. It was the first time coming here for both my friend and I so we took awhile in deciding. The staffs were friendly and very patience too.. Recommended us a few things and we ended up getting the Earl Grey Mousse, Salted Caramel Tart, a Mint Chocolate latte and Spiced herb latte? Might have remembered the drinks wrongly but definitely the correct flavours. Earl Grey mousse tasted really good and so did the Salted Caramel Tart! We ended up staying at the place for 2 hours I would say and totally love the ambience. Friendly staff, definitely well done on the customer centrism! When I'm back in good old Adelaide, I'll definitely pop by again. ;-)

I love how this place is open late! I'm always in a look out for cafes where I can do some work on my laptop. The seating here is not too comfortable but usually pretty quiet. They have a selection of teas and coffees as well as chocolates!

    Handmade chocolates :)

Sweet spot! A focus on local, this completely South Australian company which started at the Farmer's Markets is now located in a stylish fit out in Rundle St. I found the owners friendly, helpful and passionate. From the egg timer with the pot of tea (perfect brew of course) to the delicious variety of handmade chocolates and cakes to customer service (it was no problem for them to organise a slight rearrangement of chairs for the elderly members in our group), I was impressed! Between us we all shared to enjoy a variety of their goodies and everything was delicious. I have posted some photos and really could recommend everything we tried - be aware that the Dark Ganache Slice is super rich! Go here for great coffee, a sweet treat and staff that care about what they do.

Needless to say it has haunted my dreams since, so today after a hard workout my husband and I biked over for lunch. The first thing that strikes you while approaching from Kitchener Street is the lush, inviting covered wrap around porch; there is plentiful and adequately spaced tables located here (so as not to be forced to overhear unwanted convos). Next, upon entering this clean and tidy cottage you will notice three separate distinct seating areas: the main dining area, a smaller dining area tucked away by the kitchen and pastry counter, and a delightful and welcoming covered deck. We were promptly greeted by one of the friendly staff and seated straight away. Tap water, glasses, and menus were waiting at the table and after an appropriate amount of time our order was taken and special requests confirmed. This place is really busy but it seems well managed; the staff is very attentive without being intrusive. As we waited for our order we noticed the bustling and efficient staff who worked like a well oiled machine - dirty dishes were quickly removed from tables, additional carafes of tap water were dropped off without being asked for, and patrons seemed relaxed, very happy, and satisfied. By meals' end we, too, were among those happy people. My husband ordered a sandwich that I struggle to recall the name ;( it was a hearty sandwich made from perfectly toasted sourdough, grilled chicken breast meat, swiss cheese, garlic aioli, a mix of tender and flavourful greens, and crispy bacon. I ordered the smashed avocado with feta on the same delightfully prepared sourdough. It, too, came with a generous portion of greens. We could not be happier with our newfound neighbourhood brekkie place. AND there is a coffee loyalty card to boot!

You couldn't add Kale even though one dish had it and the outdoor area had a strong bad smell. Still the coffee was great and the juice and food was good. A large Venue decorated in modern decor, and some space outdoors for groups. Love the booths in the far back corner. The staff are super friendly here. As soon as you walk in you are greeted and seated. At all times you feel welcomed and you know that you will be looked after. I love a all day breakfast menu. I saw a picture of the gin cured trout and knew that was what I had to order before I arrived. It was just so pretty! I was right, it was almost to pretty to eat. I couldn't bare digging into it without taking a few snaps. The trout was cured well. I feel like it could have been cured a little longer to have a deeper flavour. Maybe more salt and sugar was needed. But, that does not mean that it was not tasty! It was really lovely. The egg was poached well, crème fraîche was a great edition and lifted the dish. An added surprise was the sea greens. I really loved them. I think that not many people are used to them, but they are really tasty. The carrots were nice, but felt a little out of place. I think what the dish needed was a sauce. The crème fraîche was great, but something with a deeper flavour or seasoning. The rest of the menu looked great! I look forward to test more items. In fact, be sure to try out the coffee. I think we may have another great coffee destination in Adelaide. They offer a couple of filter options and cold drip. I am looking forward to watch how this business develops!

I can only describe my first visit here as like those RAA commercials where a knight in shining armour rescues you. I have since been back many times over the last three years and I have noticed that they always treat me the same-great coffee and cheerful service. Another thing I have noticed is that most of the employees have been there a long time too. I think that says a lot about an establishment.
