We decided to try this place as a family of four and honestly it was just a very average to bad experience. The menu is not very kid friendly as many items are spicy. There was a burger and chips option but when I requested it they told me that just don't have it. No reason why. They don't have plastic cups for kids either. We ended up getting the beef noodle soup, a noodle dish with beef and a few lamb and chicken kebabs. The beef noodle soup had no flavor / it tasted like water with chillies. The beef noodles were over cooked and needed salt or something. The lamb kebabs were chewy and the chicken kebabs were way too spicy. The wait time for the food took 30 minutes and while I am pretty patient - it was not worth the wait. The servers were non- existent and I had to constantly ask for napkins, water, take away boxes. The only time I saw them Was when I called them to order and then called to pay. They should not work in the service industry as a smile goes along way but clearly they hate customers. There was just no attempt to be nice at all and they were not very accommodating with questions. Let me not even get started on the bathroom. It was dirty and there was no loo paper. Give this place a skip. It's just not worth the time and the money you will spend there. read more

One of my absolute favorite restaurants in the dmv. The korma chop is TO DIE FOR, both the vegetarian and beef versions but wouldn't recommend the chicken because the meat can be a bit tough. The restaurant is spacious and decorated with beautiful paintings, which gives it a really nice vibe. The menu has so many dishes that sounded amazing. I visited this restaurant with my daughter last evening and the experience was excellent. The service was solid as was the ambiance and food. We ordered the cheese stuffed cigars, which were flakey, warm and delicious. My daughter ordered the beef noodle soup, which was similar to Pho. She enjoyed it, but preferred my Mongolian beef, which was top tier and maybe the best version I have ever had. I recommend giving them a try. The samsa was good but kinda just tasted like a basic burger in my opinion. The meat pie was the best appetizer by a mile. It reminded us of something similar we had eaten in Greece last year. The flavors are amazing and the yogurt dip is phenomenal. The big plate chicken definitely lives up to the name. It takes about 25 mins to cook but it is amazing. The noodles taste fresh and the sauce has so much flavor to it. There was enough food that we both were full and there was still enough for two meals the following day. I ordered kabab from this restaurant and when I got home and opened the box, most of the food was burnt and not properly cooked. It was not edible and not what I expected based on what I paid. I contacted the restaurant right away to request a refund or replacement, but they refused and said they could not do anything. This would be my second time trying Dolan Uyghur and I have no changes to report. As always, everything was excellent! Also, the customer service is great and the waiters were really nice. If you're trying to decide what to get off the menu, I super recommend the korma chop and the tea. Although I highly doubt there's something on the menu I wouldn't like. It was disheartening to read the low reviews that some have left of this place, because I can assure you they are not representative at all of this restaurant. Everything from the food down to the ambiance of the restaurant is 10/10. It's decently sized and a great place to bring friends or family who have not tried this unique Asian cuisine. The servers were all extremely nice and easy to chat with (at least one knows how to speak fluent mandarin lol) and gave us really good recommendations. I've been to Bostan in Arlington and LOVED the food, so I decided to give Dolan a try tonight. I was happy to see so many similar dishes on this menu. When I walked in, the decor was beautiful, with the beautiful ceiling, lamps, and portraits. The service was subpar. Despite having many open tables, they were unable to seat my party of 3 because all the empty tables had dirty dishes on them, or the tablecloth was heavily stained. We were able to scan the QR code to look at the menu ahead of time, but the wait was long to be seated. I checked in on Yelp and was granted a free mushroom salad and was so excited to try it, but when I showed the waitress, she told me it is only redeemable at their DC location, and they were unable to give it to me.. that was disappointing. I ordered the Dolan Royal Laghman which was yummy. It was a hand pulled noodle dish with mushroom, cabbage, onion, red and green bell peppers and beef. I ordered it with medium spice but I definitely could have ordered for it to be spicier! I think it is dependent on the cuisine and your spice tolerance though. I'd give the dish a 3.5/5. When it came time for the check, our waitress would walk by multiple times but never made eye contact to give us the check. We waited for a very long time after we finished eating. Service was soooo slow! It seemed like there was only one waitress for the entire restaurant. Overall, the food was delicious but the service was truly lacking and made our experience one where I don't think I'll return to. I do recommend trying Uyghur food though and I am hopeful to trying Eerkins in Fairfax. read more

The waiter was very nice to us and recommended a bunch of entrees to us. I got the traditional Uyghur beef stew and my friend got the pearl noodles. As expected, the pearl noodles were kind of salty but it's typical for this type of cuisine! The beef stew was very comforting and not spicy as it looks. Came for lunch with my mom after we went to the Christmas Expo at Dulles. The restaurant itself is small and cute and nicely decorated. The staff are quick to greet you and show you to a table. They only have QR codes for menus which I know is the new thing, but my mom wasn't thrilled. We ordered the vegetarian samsa (butternut squash and peppers). It was very flavorful and good for two to share but probably wouldn't be good for multiple people to share. We also got the chicken Laghman to share. This portion was quite large with yummy chicken, vegetables, and handmade noodles that were chewy and wonderful. The sauce was extremely flavorful (but be careful as the whole spices are left in there and biting into one of those is intense. The restaurant has multiple locations and we went to the Chantilly locations. I really like the extensive menu choices. We started with the Dolan Chai and Kawa Samsa. The chai is so refreshing and soothing. We then went on to the order the signature rice noodle, goshnan, lamb kebab, hot chicken stew, fried egg plant, polow, Chuchura, chicken soup and noodle soup. Each of the dishes were delicious and bursting in flavors. The serving portions are good and easily shareable. Our server was friendly and made great recommendations. My friends and I came to Dolan Uyghur for lunch and LOVED it! None of us have had Uyghur cuisine before so we were all pretty excited for the meal. We were seated and served immediately, and our waiter was happy to recommend dishes for us. My favorite was probably the Hot Chicken Stew, which had really tender pieces of chicken and potatoes. All of our food was spicy, but not numbingly so. Great hearty food for a cold winter day. We also got the Korma Chop with Lamb and the Kazan Kebab with Lamb. Lots of lamb so it was the same flavor profile but both were good. The korma chop noodles were short and seemed hand pulled, which is pretty interesting. The kebab came with bread soaked in the sauce which was wonderful! We also got a Goshnan which was the dish that stood out the least to me but was still good. Otherwise, all good. In addition to the free mushroom salad with the Yelp check-in, we also had the noodle soup with "meatballs", the kawa manta dumplings, meat pie, and Mom's Laghman. The "meatballs" in the noodle soup were not meatballs in the traditional sense, but more like bits of meat and the kawa manta dumplings were bland, though I appreciate the number of vegetarian options to choose from. The favorite was the Mom's Laughman - a noodle dish with stir-fried cowpeas, potato, peppers, onions, tomato, and lamb or beef. For dessert, we had freshly made baklava. No complaints there! The ambiance is beautiful and unique, and the service is always attentive, friendly, engaging, and knowledgeable. In particular, the owner is quite a character. That Uighur food is so rare compels all to visit this restaurant; all the more so when you consider they are a significant minority in the true sense, with about half of the US population living in the DMV area. The opportunity to consume their cuisine and interface with their culture is a fortune not many have, and something locals should not take for granted. With that said, the food has influences from numerous cultures in line with Uighur heritage; and has become something of its own. To judge any of the dishes from a purist perspective of another culture would be to deprive oneself of the full potential to enjoy the experience. While a one-to-one conversion cannot necessarily be tendered upon the merits of biases, developed or cultural, appreciation upon the merits of presentation, consistency, and execution can be wrought; and for those reasons, I must designate a 3 stars rating. In the truest sense, 3 stars is a misnomer and difficult to judge given the lack of items against which to judge one-to-one or in kind comparison. Likewise, the factors I mentioned may be considered auxiliary. But in a pool of restaurants in a multicultural climate, there is a relativity and standard that are accordingly established, en masse, and irrespective origin and variant; and for these reasons, I could not, in good conscience, designate a higher rating. Risk, lack of representation of product, and rarity of dichotomy are all things I greatly considered here; as well as how much I like the people and establishment, and want to like the food. But the operative word in this equation is "wanted", in reference to liking the food; and, that, as a patron, student, and enthusiast of cuisine, is the ultimate adjudicator. Food must inspire, enliven, and embolden. Upon the first visit here, you may feel a partiality of these emotions given the difference of product. Over time and repeat visits, this begins to wane on account of the mediocre consistency and execution. In terms of ingredient quality, I will say it varies from above average to medium good. Likewise, the seasoning and contents of several items were on the blander if heartier side. Value is okay. For those in or traveling through the area, definitely visit this or the DC location a handful of times. There are other Uighur restaurants as well, but they are few in number; within the area, and even within the whole country. Regardless of your party composition, you will be able to find offerings that fit all dietary restrictions. As someone who would like to see this restaurant grow, my recommendation would be to monitor consistency, execution, and presentation. Even if that goes against what is part and parcel of the training and expertise of management, I believe working on these three elements would greatly expand this restaurant's appeal; for repeat and new customers. Likewise, finding ways to elevate dishes from an international point of view may not only attract clientele but compel desire from a greater array of palettes. read more
