This is one of those gems that seem to do no wrong. They cuisine seemed like a fusion of middle eastern and east asia - the latter most notably the noodles which reminded me of udon. Ambiance: 5/5 Beautiful and tasteful. There was a simplicity and casual feel about the space that made me feel at home with undertones of sophistication such was with the table arrangement and furniture selection. Service: 5/5 The staff was incredibly kind and hospitable. Recommendations: Not sure if they offer a buffet menu, but given the range of unique and tasty dishes, it would be great if this was a weekend option. Dolan Uygher's arrival in Crystal City was much anticipated, yet perhaps it was a bit overhyped. Dolan's Chinese/Uygher fusion cuisine is certainly a welcome addition to the dining options in South Arlington, although it hasn't come without growing pains. Stopped in after work for an early dinner. The dining room Central Asian/Turkic trinkets on shelves lining the walls and a few Chinese motifs throughout, though it was rather minimalist, which isn't a huge concern as the space itself was inviting enough. My server was generally amiable and seated me without hesitation, then mentioned a few specials and allowed me adequate time to review the menu; very much the level of service necessary, no complaints at all there. It's the kind of simple yet friendly service that doesn't go over the top and tells you the food is their focus. Unfortunately, that is where I wish we were fully meeting expectations. The churchura soup, a Turkic version of a Chinese dumpling/wonton soup, was decent with a flavorful broth, but the dumpling were a bit underwhelming and lacked filling; could also have benefits from a little more scallion or herbs to cut through the rich broth. The Korma Chop was also mixed; the chicken itself was well-marinated and cooked, and the sauce perfectly-spicy and savory. However, the peppers and onions could have benefitted from a bit more cooking to match the consistency, and the noodles, while stretchy and chewy enough, didn't have taste super fresh. Finally, their promotional materials have been... lackluster at best. The promotional coupons they've gave me mostly can only be used Mondays through Thursday, some only during the workday. I understand wanting to fill tables for lunch with those who work nearby, but they're practically useless to residents who work outside the neighborhood. One item that I'm not factoring into my review is price; even by Arlington, VA standards, the price is a bit higher than average, but I know their landlord (who is also my landlord) is likely being miserly on the rent, so I won't penalize them too much, although my earlier recommendations about the food quality stand. All in all, 3.5 stars (Four as a courtesy). Dolan is far from the worst addition Crystal City could have asked for, and if you've never had Uygher food before, I do recommend it. Just think they may need to work on their marketing and address a few quality shortfalls. read more

New place just opened. Another location in dc. The space was spacious. Service was a little new but good. Food was flavorful. Definitely on the heavy side if you are looking for something light. Great seasoning. For the dry pot, even if you say no spice, it might not be on the side. We had asked for spicy on the side but when the food came it was not that way. read more

My family and I were in the area and decided to stop by the new Dolan location. Food and service were as good as the other locations I've visited. Of the dishes we ordered, favorites included the spicy chicken salad (had just the right amount of spice) and korma chop with shrimp (always a must!). Also enjoyed the pepper steak (packed with flavor) and goshan (meatier than I thought the meat pie would be). Least favorite dish of the evening the whole lamb tandoor chop (1lb) - flavor and came with a good amount of lamb, just wasn't as good/memorable as the other dishes we tried. Ended with the Italian coconut cake. It was dense and a little hard to dig in to, but was surprisingly softer once you started eating it. Good, but probably wouldn't order it again - I prefer their honey or chocolate cakes more. Limited parking along the street or park in the nearby garage ($6 max on the weekends). Visited this place as part of an event. This will be my second time trying Uyghur food and every time it hits the spot. The food that was provided was so hearty and the meat was cooked to perfection. The cold noodles rice were my fav two dishes. The owner and staff were so attentive with service and the different food options were endless. I walked in and was shown to my seat. It took a little while for the server to come over but I didn't think much of it. The food was okay but not as spicy as advertised and smaller on the portion size. Where this restaurant went wrong was that they were selling MOLDED cheesecake. I was completely thrown off by this so much that I lost my appetite. I had to stand at my table and flag down my waiter to pay my bill. I made a reservation for 20 people a month ago. Two days prior to the date, I had dinner at Dolan because i wanted to confirm the reservation and check in about the menu. The afternoon of our reservation, I called to place a family-style order but was told our reservation had been cancelled due to another event. No apology, no attempt to make it right. I was just told someone got their wires crossed and they could not accommodate us. I had to scramble to find another place to seat a large party at the last minute. We had a wonderful dining experience here and will definitely be back! From the moment we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by the staff. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with Uyghur artworks that create a warm, inviting atmosphere and immediately made me feel at home. While waiting for a friend to arrive, we ordered a pot of Dolan tea. It was flavorful, refreshing, and not overly sweet. For appetizers, we tried the meat samsa and the kawa (butternut squash) samsa. Both were delicious and surprisingly juicy. The meat samsa was especially impressive--the beef was hand-cut into small, uniform pieces rather than machine-ground, giving it an excellent texture and flavor. For our main courses, we ordered the Dolan Laghman, Royal Laghman, Pearl Noodles, and Korma Chop. Since hand-pulled laghman noodles can be difficult to share, we asked whether one order could be divided into three smaller portions. The waiter happily accommodated our request without hesitation, which was greatly appreciated. Everything arrived together and at the perfect temperature. The hand-pulled noodles were fresh, chewy, and packed with flavor. The Pearl Noodles and Korma Chop were equally delicious. We enjoyed several pots of tea while catching up with friends and savoring the meal. For dessert, we ordered the honey cake, kazandibi, and sütlaç, along with a couple of lattes and a coffee. The desserts were wonderful on their own, but pairing them with coffee made for the perfect ending to the meal. What stood out most was the combination of authentic Uyghur cuisine, attentive service, beautiful décor, and thoughtful hospitality. When I visit restaurants that highlight a distinct cultural heritage, I usually don't expect a refined dining atmosphere. This restaurant completely changed that perception.
