They've been around before they opened a brewery in Jack London. I appreciate how they're like the only Asian owned brewery and we need that Asian representation however, their beers are just ok. Compared to other breweries they have a smaller selection. I've had their kimchi sour in can many years ago, definitely a beer worth trying. We had a flight today: Calamansi & tea lager - this was probably the best beer out of the 4 we tried. It very much reminded me of Ale Industries' golden state of mind - they are closed now :( Chuseok Porter - the description sounded very enticing "blend of pumpkin, rich, cinnamon, ginger, and persimmons" but the beer just tasted like a dark spicy lager in my opinion. Hazy Seoul - did not taste the "haziness" very heavy on the hops Lemongrass witbier - was not good. It tasted like it was brewed with bitter melons. I felt like their beers have a strong profile, with Asian ingredients lingering at the end but overall lacked body and tasted flat. Unless thats how Korean beer is supposed to taste?? Service was great but between my wife and I, we didn't even want to finish our flight. (But our Asian-ness didn't allow us to waste beer) Unfortunately, we would be not be back.

Had to come by for one last toast after finding out they'll be closing the taproom at the end of the month. Dokkaebier it's probably my favorite beer in the Bay Area. Asian owned and Asian inspired brews with their classic lineup as well as seasonal limited releases. Very casual warehouse environment, where you can order beers at the bar. Highly recommend their citrusy and refreshing yuza blonde. They've also got some food cooking like Korean fried chicken, kim mari and mandu. Try some and pair it with the kimchi beer. Really bummed that the taproom is closing, but can't wait to continue enjoying Dokkaebier at grocery stores and restaurants.

First time here and it did not disappoint! I got the Kimchi Sour and it has a kick to it & got small one of the Yuza Blonde on the house! Both were good! It's a cute little brewery and I love that it's Asian owned! The girl at the front was so kind and gave us two free chips too! For the restroom, there are two big keys on the wall to use to enter in, and this place only has street parking. There's also indoor and outdoor seating. I would come back here again!

So if you haven't already pop in check out the flavors because we've got new ones......... And I might even argue that the cans are turning into collector items. If you put them all together on the wall with the right lighting, it really is something to behold. I had a friend from out of the country pop in and being the beer lover that he is, I had to share this place. Now the running joke is who even are you? How is it that Koko is showing a beer lover here favorite beer spot and it's completely on point. Yaaasss to another convert! LOL the only 3 inquiries were: 1. Are these available internationally so he can get them while traveling? Lol 2. When's the food coming because if the beer is this phenomenal, the food is going to be absolutely exceptional!? And also can we get on the taste and committee before items are actually launched??? LOL (I love my people) 3. All the gear for sale is a bit pricey otherwise, my friend would've bought one of each the day we visited. My personal note on the gear is where is the summer tank tops? Our enthusiasm was felt throughout the venue and a number of people walked off buying four packs to enjoy at home later! Keep up the great work and look forward to the next rotations. #judgeme as I continue to stand for this local brand and all it creates.

I love me an Asian owned small business, especially local brewery too! Everyone here has always been so friendly when I come. I love their snack options and their popup food options when they come. I have been to a few launching parties and it's always so chill. You should get there early for seating tho if you plan to stay a bit. Favorite beers of mine would be the bamboo Pilsner atm, but I love trying all their new stuff!

Checked this place out and decided to try every beer. It wasn't busy at opening when we arrived and had plenty of seating inside and out. It's feels open and spacious and has some cute merch for sale. We ordered right away and enjoyed our beers. There was a good variety to try and glad we did a flight of every kind. They serve food but wasn't available when we arrived. They put out menus later and tried to order food but stated it was still too early to order. They were promoting a new menu item, the beer tower. It's only the beer of the month so can't choose any beer option. I'd come back but hope to try some food and know what beers I liked better for next time.

Korean-owned, dog and group-friendly, with indoor and outdoor seating. Dokkaebier is such a cute play on the word dokkaebi ~ghost~ which is cemented in their bright neon light fixture when you are ordering at the bar. I've heard so much hype about Dokkaebier with their unique Korean twist on beers such as Chuseok pumpkin stout, yuzu blonde, and lemongrass wit. There's SO many beers to choose from, so thank goodness they offer flights of 4. Our group got flights and pints, and we were so happy having a lil taste of everything. I def loved their unique IPAs and flavorful sours, the kimchi sour was a nice lil savory one not pungent or astringent at all. Our taptender dudes were both so friendly and kind--they let us taste some beers before we committed. We love high-quality service! They also have cans to go and cute merch, some lil snacks for purchase. BUT they also partnered with a pizza place next door, just FYI pay attention to when orders close because when we wanted to order they had already closed for the night. They also have TV's that were playing football games, and the ambiance was great...not too loud where you can't hear your friends, but also a nice lil buzz of noise where you're not feeling am-I-talking-too-loudly. Restrooms are clean, just around the corner, grab a key from the wall. And they had a bunch of outdoor seating too (not shaded), but we chose indoors on a hot weekend day. Will def be back, love that 3rd street gained another hard hitter in the brews scene.

You want some unique beers in the Oakland area? Stop here. Dokkaebier is a Bay Area craft brewery that makes Asian-inspired beers. The name Dokkaebier comes from the dokkaebi, which are mythical shape-shifting creatures from Korean folklore. The dokkaebi are described as playful and mischievous spirits that love to eat, drink, and be in the company of others. We got a flight of four of their beers to get a taste for the spice of life. Kimchi Sour: A Kettle Sour that mimics the flavors of kimchi using ginger, gochugaru, and the brewer's own personal kimchi culture. Bamboo Pilsner: A European Style Pilsner brewed with bamboo and was my favorite of teh bunch. I get bamboo tea notes of bergamot, honey, and almonds with a nice bready malt base that comes off with a hint of sweetness. Easy to drink and super complex! In the Weeds: A West Coast IPA dry hopped with traditional west coast hops that come across as citrusy and piney with a bit of bitterness to round it all out. Chuesok Porter: A Porter brewed with Pumpkin, Rice, Cinnamon, Ginger, and Persimmons. A bit grainy on the mouthfeel, I think from the rice. Very light touches of warming spices, dates, and nuttiness. The pumpkin comes across less 'sweet pumpkin pie', but more pumpkin gourd-esque. Delicious! ________

Second time coming to this place and we had to return because the first time we did not try the KimChi Sour, which tbh is my favorite beer that they offer. It's very unique with the kimchi essence but it doesn't overpower the drink where you'd think you're drinking kimchi juice or something like that. The lemongrass was also good, but not quite my cup of tea. The left side of the menu are beers brewed by Dokkabier, but they also have beverages from some other breweries on the right side. You can also get a testing flight if you do not want to get a full "can's" worth of any one flavor. ~~Restroom: They have 2 keys on the left side of the store that you will need to bring to go over to the building's shared restroom. ~~Service: Great, the staff is very nice! ~~Environment: The storefront is very nice and they have some nice seating areas out front. There's a mix of options depending on your party size. Outside there's long tables as well as smaller tables within the shipping containers. Inside there's aalso a generous amount of seating. ~~Return: Yes.

So, I recommend for several reasons. First,it is owned by an awesome guy who is also Asian and doing his thing! Second, the Dokkabiers are yum. The selection is a nice change from our common styles here in the bay. I had the Yuza Blonde, Rice Lager, Kimchi Sour and the Milk Stout. I took home the IPA. I liked them all but was most pleasantly surprised by the Kimchi Sour. It is not as acidic as you would think but instead well balanced. I also love that they still have beers from Federation Brewing and also beers from Hella Coastal. The selection is diverse. There was good music playing and a positive vibe. The beertenders were super helpful and knowledgeable. Parked right in front at a meter. The bathroom was super clean. Enjoy.

Excited to finally make it here as I've seen some yelp events happening at this place. They have a lot of outdoor seating so it is great for big groups, and they have individual stalls for smaller groups as well. We met the owners, and you can tell they are very passionate about their business. They are putting all they can into this business, and I can see this place blowing up in popularity one day. The drinks were fun. I got the Kimchi-lada which was unique. I think 1 was enough since spicy and beer can cause a bit of a stomach ache. If you like that, then you should have some tums ready for you. My favorite beer was the lemongrass beer. I thought it was very refreshing.

Pretty good selection of Dokkaebier and Faction taps but the old posted pictures has me believing they had good on site which they don't. They did happen to have a southern food truck outside, and the catfish was good. My favorite beers were the kimchi sour and calamansi jasmine. The kimchi sour had a strong ginger flavor with a slight chili hint. And the calamansi jasmine was refreshing. Great service, tables outside and clean bathrooms on site.

Now we can enjoy some favorite Asian culinary ingredients in beer! Beer pairs great with Asian food, so yes why not combine them? Ingenious! I imagine it must have been at least as fun dreaming up and creating the flavor combos as it was to taste them. Lemongrass witbier and Calamansi &Tea lager were a couple of our faves and there were plenty of options. Outdoor seating was plentiful on a pleasant Sunday early evening, though being in jack London square area you are close to the water so you may want to bring layers. We grabbed dinner a couple short blocks away at Noka Ramen after. Our taste buds and bellies were thanking us for all of it. read more

Loved the feel of the place, but they really need some umbrellas to increase the use of their outdoor eating areas. I hope Dokkaebier continues their collaboration with Smishsmash because the burgers go so well with Dokka's beer! We tried their $13 - 4 flight: Yuza blonde, bamboo pils, lemongrass witbier, kimchi sour. All were on the light side but really went well with the food! I want to come back and try their michelada - they use their kimchi sour. And they are puppy friendly! read more

I haven't been to the taproom (yet) but I have ordered beer a couple times through the mail. They're flavors are very unique. They're a refreshing option in the craft beer space. We love the Yuza Blonde! It could be my favorite summer beer. I'll order it every year. read more

No place like this in the Bay! Believe me. Their happy hour includes $4.20 beers, where can you find that for craft beers?! The rice kolsh, kimchi sour, and yuza blonde are the best! Highly recommend. Also, the service is amazing and everyone is so knowledgeable. Definitely need to stop by here. read more

Great experience this past week at the Yelp Elite event at Dokkaebier brewery. I definitely found my new favorite brewery in Oakland. Great place for social gatherings with friends and they offer Asian-inspired craft beers, brewed here in California. The bartenders were all super friendly and had great explanations of how each specific beer was crafted and it's taste. I tried 4 different beers and really loved the Yuza blonde, it was a lighter choice and had so many delicious hints of Yuza fruit and was very crisp. All the beers were great and specific, to taste and there is something for everyone. The beers come on tap and in cans, so the choice is yours. The brewery location is right in the heart of Jack London so you instantly get the great ambiance and breeze from the Bay flowing indoors and there is also additional outdoor seating available! read more

Recently opened Dokkaebier, a Korean fusion brewery with amazing food located in the Upper Polk. Love the decor, neon lights and beer can pyramids are now new additions to this old establishment. Thank the lord I had the opportunity to taste this place before the mandatory shelter in place. We tried six of their beers (one flight and two personals), from the bamboo pilsner to the gochujang ale, ipa, double ipa, and stout. Personal favorites were the pilsner -- light and refreshing, and the double ipa -- even though it had a high ABV, it didn't take away from its hoppy flavors. Additionally, from what I remembered, many of their beers had interesting Korean ingredients infused in them. Which I thought was pretty neat. Although Dokkaebier's identity may appear as a brewery, do me a favor and do not sleep on the food. Their Korean chicken wings were delicious, spicy and tangy, crispy yet very juicy and moist. IMO, they are better than 707 Sutter and ARIA (neighboring KFC joints). I'm sad we only came here to pregame, will definitely be back after the SIP for dinner! Their staff and customer service were excellent. We were greeted at the door and our waiter was attentive to our table the whole time. Fingers crossed hoping Dokkaebier is here to stay! read more

The place: 10/10 super chill ambiance! Right on Polk street so it's a great place to come for a night of bar hopping. Tables and counter tops are available but make sure to come in before or after the 6-9 rush just because the place tends to get filled up quickly! You're allowed to order a drink at the bar, but it'd be hard to get some food if you don't have a table! They always let you drink at one of the standing barrels and then call on you when a table is ready! The food/drinks: 10/10 WOW! Finally have a place for some good beer AND good food! Haven't really found a place that served both at a decent price until this place opened up! The chefs worked at a 3-Michelin restaurant so you know the food is bout to be great! Also really great bang for your buck cause I mean $19 for AN UNI FLAN?! Can't beat that! Love the chicken wings, I loved BOTH flavors! Totally love their beer selection as well! They have like over 25 beers on tap plus the ones that they make! The house beers are my favorite and their flight is CHEAP ($12) AND TOTALLY SHARABLE! Great place for casual and fun dinner on Polk - Korean tapas and beer! The place was half full at 6pm on a Saturday. A few tables, but much of the seating is shared counters/bar. We sat at the bar and the food came out very fast. The menu is limited, so make sure you can live with those items - didn't see any veggies. Probably the most friendliest bar in oakland. The bartender was a young up beat female and she was encouraging my brother and I to try every beer they had. The house ipa was delicious! You can try various Asian infused beers like calamansi and a kimichi beer. Great spot and friendly service. read more

If you're a craft beer enthusiast or someone looking to explore the world of Korean brews, I would highly suggest coming out to try Dokkaebier! I loved the rustic yet modern decor, and the beer was great! I had the Yuza Blonde, Rice Lager, Kimchi Sour and the Milk Stout. I personally LOVED the Kimchi sour, but there is something here for everyone. The owner has a really great backstory and I am definitely coming back to support this local business! :) read more

One of the best, most creative breweries I have been to. They have a great ambiance, wonderful bartenders who know the menu through and through, and the Asian-inspired beers have unique flavors that are always a hit. Love this place! They do a fantastic job of crafting a variety of unique beers. I definitely recommend getting a flight to sample five different types. Some flavors might not be for everyone (i.e. I didn't care for the dragonfruit), but you're guaranteed to find something you love (really enjoyed their rice lager and kimchi sour). The vibe here is great. The food options are great (we got Hesher's pizza this last time, but they have regular food popups). The people are great. Their bathrooms are also really clean. read more

Went to their first event with friends and the owner was very humble and friendly. He shared how being AAPI in the beer community shaped the business despite struggles from the pandemic. Overall great and unique tasting beers would bring me back alone but the staff made it an amazing experience. read more

Great bar if you want to try some Asian inspired flavors. The bamboo Pilsner didn't really taste like bamboo. The kimchi sour really did taste like kimchi at first taste. The jasmine had a hint of it at the end. All in all it's a good place to chill read more

My family and I got take out yesterday and just wanted to say the BRAISED PORK BELLY IS SO INSANELY GOOD. It's super tender, not overly fatty and rich in flavor. The family style portion comes with really delicious stewed kimchee and radishes, and rice on the side. We also got chicken wings and kalbi, but the pork belly was by far the surprise hit of the meal. This will become a COVID-19 SiP regular at our house. I wish I took pictures for you all, but it was so good we devoured it very quickly. Tip: Order it directly from their website and pick up, so they don't have to share their revenue with Uber Eats, etc. read more

Great place for yummy innovative Korean inspired beers and high quality small bites (tapas style). We ordered the dokkaebi fries (fried rice cake), wings, and the hotteok & ice cream. All the dishes were great! My favorite was the rice cake fries! It comes with two dipping sauces: one spicy one and one sweet one. read more

I found out about Dokkaebier online and ordered a 12-pack variety case. The prices were very reasonable for an ultralocal microbrew, they delivered straight to my door, and produced an amazing product. I was very impressed with the creativity of their offerings in the multipack--Fueled by a desire to introduce Asian ingredients into the craft beer industry, the creative team behind DKB did not shy away from the challenge. Their Witbier with Sichuanese peppercorns and lemongrass had a lovely herbaceous kick, while their milk stout with cardamom and green pepper had a perfect mouthfeel full of rich chocolatey goodness to balance the warming spices. Their IPAs do trend on the fruity side (which is less my jam), but I was surprised at how much I liked the Trident, with its bold tropical body and unapologetically bitter finish. These are not flavors I'm used to seeing in beer, and I'm grateful to the Dokkaebier team for bringing them into the beer culture of California. 5/5, please give them a shot! read more

Came here on their soft opening for beers and Korean tapas. Their beer selection is great (Woods, North Coast, Bare Bottle, Fieldwork, etc.)! We ordered the Dokkaebi fries (rice cake fries with nori powder and a spicy mayo and honey dipping sauce). Great service, beers, and food. Will come back! Try their bamboo pilsner!!! read more

My fiancé and I have been living near Polk for a while and we've seen multiple iterations at this location. This is the most unique and flavorful! The beers made on-site were different and amazing. We'd never had rice fries before and we loved them! Of course, the Korean fried chicken was wonderful. Hopefully the pop-up can stay longer than April, or permanently! read more

Great beer and great food. I found this place through a gift certificate I got and was stoked to try it. The thing I love is that they are authentically Korean while making it accessible to the masses. I had the double IPA which was super legit and didn't have a huge bitter aftertaste. I also got the 50/50 wings, one spicy and one not and the flavors were fantastic. Lastly, the kimchi/pork belly was awesome. It comes with some daikon in a broth that's super flavorful. Love the modern branding. If you don't know, the name is a play on words from Korean folklore of mischievous goblins. There's a fun neon light on the wall inside with a line from a children's story. It sucks that this placed opened right before the SIP so I can't wait to go back once things are open with friends and hang out for a while drinking good beer and munching on wings. read more

So sad to have found this place so late into it's run and after SIP started up, but glad to have a nearby place to get growlers and cans to go. House beers are great, with unique twists and flavors that aren't so overpowering that they become undrinkable after a half a pint like many places, and a diverse guest tap list. While take-out will never do a menu justice, the food was really solid and a perfect accompaniment to the beer. Order plenty of chicken, because you'll want to take at least a couple growlers home ;) Looking forward drinking as much as possible during the run and looking forward to your next move! read more

The best! They just opened two days ago and you would never have guessed it. The beers, food and service were amazing and we can't recommend Dokkaebier enough! Our server was so friendly and brought us tastes of multiple beers to help us decide. Their house beers were excellent and their selection of other craft brewers was impeccable!! The food-wow!! Don't miss the short ribs (huge portion for 3 of us in a hot cast iron skillet) or the rice "fries" which were so unique with sweet and spicy dipping sauces. The wings were delicious and massive. The house dessert was our favorite part! A Korean pancake filled with nuts and brown sugar with sesame ice cream. Order more than one!! The owner and chef were both so attentive and wonderful. Run, don't walk, to Dokkaebier's pop-up location open through April. We will be back and bringing lots of friends for excellent Korean food, beers and inviting and friendly service. Score! read more

What a great surprise to check-out this new pop-up on Polk serving a unique variety of refreshing original beers (and plenty of other draught favorites) Menu is definitely defining the modern taproom - super cozy but open environment too with nice tables and a bar for meeting friends. Food is refreshing and inspired- tried a few things and the oysters were my favorite... outstanding- unique Korean flair. Definitely top-of-the-mark for anyone that loves great beer and great food. read more

Hopefully the seeds from the trees have protein, because I know I ate some. Finally, about the actual food, I will say that it was pretty good, and it came quickly! However, a burger from in n out or a pizza from blaze pizza is around the same quality for a more reasonable price. As for the pizza, it was pretty good and able to be shared with 2-3 people. Just avoid the "spicy" fries because they are just regular fries drowing in paprika lol. Overall, there are so many other cute spots like this around so just go to one of those.

Firstly, I love GT and really enjoy their beer and visiting their taprooms. Full disclosure I'm a former professional brewer so I take beer VERY seriously! I've also worked in the service industry and understand that role. I know sh*t happens and I typically extend grace but if you know craft beer like I do you know when there's a great batch of something you love, there's nothing else like it and you will DRIVE to get it. Hop profiles shift, strike temps can differ, water chemistry varies, salts do only so much so a great batch is a great batch!! My issue is simple, when I order and pay for beer online for pickup, I expect that my beer will be there at the scheduled time. This is the second occasion that this has happened at this location, thus me writing this review. I don't have to tell anyone how rough it is driving through Bay Area traffic to pick up an order in another city and finding out once you arrive that your item isn't there. In this instance the beer-tender was extremely nonchalant and almost flippant so of course I left with a level of frustration that didn't just go away. What happened to accommodations when situations like this happen, ya know a small discount on the beer that I end up buying as a replacement. Telling me my card was refunded and you tried to call me when I have no voicemail from you isn't it. Surely my inconvenience deserves some sort of nod of acknowledgment. Overall it's an experience that leaves a bad taste, an off flavor if you will! I hope no one else encounters this and that my experiences are one-offs but I personally have very little faith that what I buy from this location will actually be there upon arrival. Better to just buy it on the spot since the convenience of ordering online doesn't seem to work out!

What shocked me most was that the moment my friend turned around and walked away, I was standing outside clearly saw him raise both hands and flip us off. The beer itself was genuinely very good, which makes this even more disappointing. I feel sorry for the employer who hired someone like this to represent their business. Staff was super friendly and were great with the quick service. The beer selection is truly one-of-a-kind, with flavors that you won't find anywhere else. I highly recommend trying the Yuzu Blonde--it's light, citrusy, and incredibly refreshing. The Kimchi Sour is another standout, offering a tangy kick that's both surprising and delightful. If you're into something a bit different, the Calamansi & Tea Lager is a must-try, with its subtle tea notes and zesty calamansi flavor. For those who want to explore a variety of flavors, ordering a flight of beers is the way to go. This place is awesome! Some seriously tasty American-Korean fusion at solid prices, and plenty of it! The pictures looked irresistible, so I wasn't expecting reality to match up as well as it did! It really does look like the pics. I have to admit, after living in SF for a while, I expected when I ordered to receive a lackluster amount of wings and some soggy fries...this was anything but! I got the Gangjung Fried Chicken and the Bulgogi Fries, and both were fantastic. It's a really solid amount of chicken and that's much appreciated. I tried both the Garlic Soy and the Sweet and Spicy sauce, and they were both winners. I think the right way to do this is to get the Garlic Soy and then a side of the Sweet and Spicy...best of both worlds! It's an extra $1 but worth it. The Bulgogi Fries too were heaping with delicious beef...my mouth is watering again just writing it. I will say even the sweet and spicy is not that spicy, but if you have some gochujang sauce handy, that is the perfect compliment. If you don't...get you some! Both the chicken and the fries also pair really well with Sriracha or any other hot sauce of your choice. So, if you're a spice fiend, get at it!
