This by far was my favorite of all the beers I drank and tasted here. Also tasted the following: Dokkaebi IPA - Light and refreshing. Lemongrass Witbier - I can almost taste the lemongrass, another light and refreshing beer. K-Beer - Again, another light and refreshing beer. My daughter had the Calamansi & Tea Lager - This actually had more flavor then all the beers I drank except my porter. Lastly, my daughter noticed the Hazy IPA, Hazy Seoul. But I could not/did not want to drink any more. I guess I might have to rush over again before they close. For our snacks we got: KFC, Korean Fried Chicken - Not as authentic as I would have preferred. Gimmari - Wow, a home run. It helped that I have never had this before! My daughter says we will go to K-Town next time we are in LA and she will introduce me to Korean "street food." Looking forward to it. Atmosphere - Small local brewery. I can not say enough good things about this spot and I am so sad to find out that the taproom is closing. First off, it was a great space with ample indoors and outdoor seating. The people here are always extremely welcoming and patient with me as I slowly read through their beer selection. And their beer selection--absolutely amazing. As an Asian-American, I never thought I'd see Kimchi and Yuzu flavors for beer. Obviously, the first time we came here, we had to get flights to try all of their flavors. They also have a seasonal Calamansi flavored one right now which is also quite nice and refreshing. I came in on a Friday night and Amanda provided really awesome, friendly service! Such a gem of brewery that is sadly closing this taproom at the end of the month - go get your beers here while you can. You'll still be able to find them at your local retailer like Whole Foods & restaurants and such. Asian-owned and Asian inspired, their beers are unique and light and crisp. The Yuzu blonde is a banger. The tap room is old school, in a little warehouse with some tables. They have a large outdoor space and they were just getting into the world of some Korean fried chicken and deep fried mandu. Overall, a gem of a brewery and community space. They've been around before they opened a brewery in Jack London. I appreciate how they're like the only Asian owned brewery and we need that Asian representation however, their beers are just ok. Compared to other breweries they have a smaller selection. I've had their kimchi sour in can many years ago, definitely a beer worth trying. We had a flight today: Calamansi & tea lager - this was probably the best beer out of the 4 we tried. It very much reminded me of Ale Industries' golden state of mind - they are closed now :( Chuseok Porter - the description sounded very enticing "blend of pumpkin, rich, cinnamon, ginger, and persimmons" but the beer just tasted like a dark spicy lager in my opinion. Hazy Seoul - did not taste the "haziness" very heavy on the hops Lemongrass witbier - was not good. It tasted like it was brewed with bitter melons. I felt like their beers have a strong profile, with Asian ingredients lingering at the end but overall lacked body and tasted flat. Unless thats how Korean beer is supposed to taste?? Highly recommend their citrusy and refreshing yuza blonde. They've also got some food cooking like Korean fried chicken, kim mari and mandu. Try some and pair it with the kimchi beer. First time here and it did not disappoint! I got the Kimchi Sour and it has a kick to it & got small one of the Yuza Blonde on the house! Both were good! It's a cute little brewery and I love that it's Asian owned! The girl at the front was so kind and gave us two free chips too! If you put them all together on the wall with the right lighting, it really is something to behold. I had a friend from out of the country pop in and being the beer lover that he is, I had to share this place. Now the running joke is who even are you? Are these available internationally so he can get them while traveling? Lol 2. When's the food coming because if the beer is this phenomenal, the food is going to be absolutely exceptional!? Dokkaebier is such a cute play on the word dokkaebi ~ghost~ which is cemented in their bright neon light fixture when you are ordering at the bar. I've heard so much hype about Dokkaebier with their unique Korean twist on beers such as Chuseok pumpkin stout, yuzu blonde, and lemongrass wit. There's SO many beers to choose from, so thank goodness they offer flights of 4. Our group got flights and pints, and we were so happy having a lil taste of everything. I def loved their unique IPAs and flavorful sours, the kimchi sour was a nice lil savory one not pungent or astringent at all. Our taptender dudes were both so friendly and kind--they let us taste some beers before we committed. We love high-quality service! They also have cans to go and cute merch, some lil snacks for purchase. BUT they also partnered with a pizza place next door, just FYI pay attention to when orders close because when we wanted to order they had already closed for the night. They also have TV's that were playing football games, and the ambiance was great...not too loud where you can't hear your friends, but also a nice lil buzz of noise where you're not feeling am-I-talking-too-loudly. Restrooms are clean, just around the corner, grab a key from the wall. And they had a bunch of outdoor seating too (not shaded), but we chose indoors on a hot weekend day. Checked this place out and decided to try every beer. It wasn't busy at opening when we arrived and had plenty of seating inside and out. It's feels open and spacious and has some cute merch for sale. We ordered right away and enjoyed our beers. There was a good variety to try and glad we did a flight of every kind. They serve food but wasn't available when we arrived. They put out menus later and tried to order food but stated it was still too early to order. They were promoting a new menu item, the beer tower. Kimchi Sour: A Kettle Sour that mimics the flavors of kimchi using ginger, gochugaru, and the brewer's own personal kimchi culture. Bamboo Pilsner: A European Style Pilsner brewed with bamboo and was my favorite of teh bunch. I get bamboo tea notes of bergamot, honey, and almonds with a nice bready malt base that comes off with a hint of sweetness. Easy to drink and super complex! In the Weeds: A West Coast IPA dry hopped with traditional west coast hops that come across as citrusy and piney with a bit of bitterness to round it all out. Chuesok Porter: A Porter brewed with Pumpkin, Rice, Cinnamon, Ginger, and Persimmons. A bit grainy on the mouthfeel, I think from the rice. Very light touches of warming spices, dates, and nuttiness. Second time coming to this place and we had to return because the first time we did not try the KimChi Sour, which tbh is my favorite beer that they offer. It's very unique with the kimchi essence but it doesn't overpower the drink where you'd think you're drinking kimchi juice or something like that. The lemongrass was also good, but not quite my cup of tea. The left side of the menu are beers brewed by Dokkabier, but they also have beverages from some other breweries on the right side. So, I recommend for several reasons. First,it is owned by an awesome guy who is also Asian and doing his thing! Second, the Dokkabiers are yum. The selection is a nice change from our common styles here in the bay. I had the Yuza Blonde, Rice Lager, Kimchi Sour and the Milk Stout. I took home the IPA. I liked them all but was most pleasantly surprised by the Kimchi Sour. It is not as acidic as you would think but instead well balanced. I also love that they still have beers from Federation Brewing and also beers from Hella Coastal. The selection is diverse. There was good music playing and a positive vibe. Excited to finally make it here as I've seen some yelp events happening at this place. They have a lot of outdoor seating so it is great for big groups, and they have individual stalls for smaller groups as well. We met the owners, and you can tell they are very passionate about their business. They are putting all they can into this business, and I can see this place blowing up in popularity one day. The drinks were fun. I got the Kimchi-lada which was unique. I think 1 was enough since spicy and beer can cause a bit of a stomach ache. I rated this spot four stars because some of the beers were exceptional and others were...unfortunately, not that great. We recommend the Bamboo Pilsner, Soul to Seoul, Calamansi & Tea Lager, Lemongrass Witbier, and the Yuza Blonde. With these, you really tasted something unique with the beers. Also, we are not big on sours, but the kimchi sour was pleasantly spicy. The IPA was too bland, the lychee black tea did not taste like either one. I basically found that the beers either tasted special and unique, or just very bland. However I do believe it is well worth the visit and the tasting! Dokkaebier opened in February 2020 (during the pandemic), but this did not stop its popularity from growing. The first time I saw Dokkaebier, I was at a brew fest, and they had the longest line at the event and their popularity has not stopped since. They are located in Jack London and brew their beer in the back of the tap room. Their taproom has a great vibe with plenty of tables to sit at, or you can sit at the bar and chat up the beer server. Everyone in the tap room is knowledgeable about the beer and is more than willing to let you try several beers to find the one you like. I am a big fan of their Bamboo Pilnser and Lemongrass Witbier. A refreshing perspective in the craft beer scene. Youngwon Lee's Dokkaebier does not disappoint. Seriously, take it from someone who flies around the world to visit tap rooms and taste the finest beer from all corners of the world. I fondly remember stumbling upon their pop-up taproom in early 2020 in San Francisco. I was pleasantly surprised to find easy to drink beer, reminiscent of ingredients I already know and love. My favourite hits from Dokkaebier are the Kimchi Sour, Yuzu Blonde, and the short run of Minari Witbier (my favourite, though sadly no longer in production). I was happy to visit their new permanent home in Jack London Square Oakland. An easy ferry ride across the bay from the city. The space hasn't changed drastically from the original owners, however, it suits them great. The taproom features all of the Dokkaebier hits on tap, a fridge full of cans to take home, and simple snacks if you are feeling a bit peckish. The staff is really friendly and Youngwon Lee is frequently in the house socialising with groups. The other day my coworkers planned a visit to their Dokkabier's new brewery - which I almost didnt go to because it was all across the bridge - but it was super worth it! Despite my rating for the two different beers I had from Dokkaebier on Untapped I have to bump up their overall rating to five stars. Not that my Untapped ratings were bad reviews for them but both beer drinking experiences came in at four stars. The reason why I am bumping this brewery to five stars is that their concept and recipes are very different from most breweries out there which makes them stand out in my mind. The name is Korean inspired for the Dokkabei, mysterious, mischievous and playful shape-shifting creatures or spirits. The staff at Dokkaebier take pride in this concept by being brewers, chefs, innovators and gracious hosts. One of the two beers I had was a hazy milkshake IPA, the LGBTQ Hazy IPA which was to commemorate Pride Month. This beer was pefumy and floral by getting a whiff of it and then the floral aspect showed in the flavor as well along with fruitiness, bitterness and hopiness. One of the better milkshake IPA's I have recently had. But the beer that is etched into my mind even more is their Kimchi Sour beer. A very unique beer this was brewed by the chef's own kimchi culture and results in a smoky, ginger, spicy and tart sour beer. It was truly a unique beer and I haven't seen anything quite like this with beers, even the most unusual beer recipes I have come across. I really like this place, in fact I drive over from the North Bay to enjoy as many different flavors of their beer as I can fit. I have brought a number of friends and they all enjoy Dokkaebier. I love how the bartenders are always nice and have just the right amount of chattiness. They also made some genius combinations, for example the kimchilada. Nowadays there is often great food onsite but I do also enjoy ordering pizza from across the street and eating it in Dokkaebier's open air atmosphere. I had the pleasure of attending a Yelp Elite event sponsored by Dokkaebier this past weekend and I cannot begin to extoll all of the wonderful attributes and virtues that this brew offers. Every flavor has a subtlety and unique profile, yet unlike other brew brands, there is absolutely nothing that upsets the flavor balance. I would describe the general tasting note to follow the characteristics of a light, balanced, carbonated blonde but even the Kimchi Sour is shockingly toned down, not pungent or "Bloody Mary-ish" as I presumed it might be. I have enjoyed the Kimchi Sour previously because I was drawn to the description; what moved me at the tasting event was the Mango and the Yuzu Blonde. Highly recommend this brand and the nice folks behind it. They are passionate in their craft and I am always proud of local and Korean-based business. Also, if you do a soju bomb with the Yuzu Blonde and Jinro Strawberry, it tastes like strawberry lemonade and goes down easier than the woman who stole your ex boyfriend. Just saying. Dokkaebier is awesome! The Korean-inspired food is amazing, with a Michelin Star chef creating new recipes all the time. They have yummy beers with out-of-the-box ingredients as well! My favorites have been their pilsner, 1.5X IPA, DIPA, and their witbier. Their fried chicken, kimchi pork belly, baby octopus with banchan are all amazing! Flavors from Milk Stout, Kimchi Sour, Yuzu Blonde, and Rice Kolsh - while I didn't try the stouts the Yuzu and Kolsh were pleasant. What you'd expect from a good beer. I usually despise sours - but the Kimchi Sour was shockingly not bitter. It feels more like a kombucha/beer - I'll be coming back to snack on their kimchi popcorn and a beer.
