We've used DDI from the moment we got our (then) puppy 4.5 years ago. Since day 1, Patrick has been our dog's primary walker and he is the absolute best. Every walk, we receive pictures and updates on the walk. We've never had to worry about cancellations - Patrick and the whole team have been as reliable as they come. When we've recently needed emergency walks as we were in the hospital for the birth of our child, the team was able to respond quickly and accommodate us. We love DDI! Our 2 year old goldendoodle Charlie has been an active client since he was a tiny puppy! The absolute best part about DDI is the customer service and amazing staff. They are always ready to help and accommodate the craziest of dog parents (me). Charlie started with 2 walks a day when he was a puppy. Now he loves his office "field trips" every Wednesday with Danielle and the crew. Having one day a week where we don't have to worry about taking him to daycare or get home in time to give him an evening walk or feed him dinner is unbelievably helpful!! He also gets walks on Fridays so he gets some days off from the hum drum of normal daycare. We learned very quickly that dogs need variety rather than the same thing everyday. DDI has been more than wonderful to me and my nearly 16 year old Shiba Inu and I honestly cannot say enough about how they are not just indispensable to us but have become part of our family. We've been using them for about 6 years and they have always taken amazing care of my very complicated dog and helped me navigate a couple of challenging travel situations. For anyone who knows Shibas, they can be difficult and confounding dogs. I travel frequently for work (for stretches between 2 - 18 days) and used to take my pup to a wonderful pet hotel for boarding. Once she turned 10, the stress of it took too much of a toll on her, so I tried DDI because they had a lot of home-based options. My pup wouldn't stand for having anyone in the house overnight, so we settled on "goodnight" and "good morning" walks, along with additional walks during the day to get her good coverage while I was away. As with many older dogs, she is on a special diet and takes several pills. The DDI walkers have been excellent about following the (often elaborate) feeding instructions I leave - including some with numerous steps required to be followed in a particular order. They are also very patient with my very shy pup as she can be a special challenge to leash. About 3 years ago, we added weekday walks (M-F), and it has made a huge difference to my pup's mental health. She'll be turning 16 in a few months and I credit DDI's care with part of the reason that she can still bounce and play despite her age and health issues. As with anything in life, nothing is perfect, but when there have been sanfus, DDI has been absolutely incredible - including making a 1:30 am visit when my pup didn't cooperate with the "goodnight" walk she was scheduled for several hours earlier. Knowing that DDI has someone on call for emergencies, even in the middle of the night, is an amazing safety net. I haven't had to use that net often, but when I have, DDI has been there. DDI also takes care of their employees, by offering them benefits, providing guaranteed hours and recognizing that DDI cannot exist without the walkers. Although this means that prices have increased since we've been using them, the additional cost has been returned tenfold by the individual commitment the walkers have to my pup. In the time that I've been with DDI, they've updated their technology to allow real time communication, as well as easy scheduling and account management. I absolutely love the communication feature as I can add last minute notes for that day's walker and message them in real time while they are with my pup. DDI has been indispensable to me and my older pup, but they also provide special programs for puppies and cats and have a multitude of other services that we have not used (including field trips!). DDI is hands down the best dog walking and petsitting service! I was worried about finding a reliable and trustworthy dog walker when my husband and I moved to Chicago two years ago. We've used them for two years in both places we've lived (in Lincoln Park/Lakeview and in Lincoln Square) and have been blown away by their client service and animal knowledge. They do both daily dog walking and cat-sitting for us. My experiences with both are below: Dog Walking: I have an Australian shepherd that's wary of strangers and told Lauren (the owner of DDI) about this during my initial walk consult. She was very comfortable and knowledgeable with how to handle it and by the end of her visit, my dog was bringing her toys and begging for more attention. All of the walkers are also well-equipped to handle my dog and she's loved every single one of them. We get notes every day on how the walk went which really brighten up my day at the office and gives me peace of mind that my dog is well cared for. Administratively I wish I could give DDI 6 stars (Alli does most of the communication and she's amazing)! They are proactive communicators regarding any walker absences/changes and always make sure someone is able to take care of our dog within our scheduled timeframe (I request a 2-hr window in which our dog needs to be walked everyday) so I don't need to worry about anything. When weather is too bad for a regular walk (remember the winter of 2014?!?!) they'll send everyone a note explaining that walks will be shortened and replaced with indoor play/cuddle time. During the canine influenza outbreak this year they sent notes about what they were doing to limit the risk to our pets while they were in DDI's care and provided info for what we as owners could do too. Sometimes I'm stuck late at work and need a last minute evening walk for my dog, it's never an issue, I just email them and they work it out. I can rest easy and concentrate on what I need to get done everyday knowing DDI is taking care of my dog. We also did the 2014 PAWS Run for Their Lives 5k with DDI, they treat all their clients and their pets as part of their family! Catsitting: I use DDI for cat-sits during the holidays. The holidays are busy for DDI so I make reservations ahead of time. Our regular dog walker is usually able to cover these as well which is nice because she sees the cats everyday when she comes to take out our dog (they love her too... I usually get a comment in my daily walker note about my cats demanding attention from our walker as she's trying to get our dog leashed). We leave instructions with DDI and they communicate them to the person that's coming to care for the cats. They're fed and watered, litter is scooped and taken outside to the trash and then she pets and plays with them for the remaining time. We also get a note every time she comes (it gets emailed to us like the daily dog walk notes) telling us how they're doing. It helps us relax when we're out of town knowing they're in good hands! Other wonderful things about DDI: They've just started doing field trips on certain days for their client's dogs (eg, a walk to the lakefront and playing at the beach). I haven't taken advantage of this yet for our dog but it sounds pretty awesome. You have to sign up your dog ahead of time, there are additional fees and behavior requirements for the dogs (e.g. They can't be leash aggressive bc they'll be with other dogs) but if you want your dog to do something different from a normal walk one day this is it! The online system they use to keep track of pet profiles and billing information is easy to use. Their rates are competitive with other dog walking companies and individuals for equivalent amounts of walk time. Last winter one of their managers (Christy) did a photo shoot for clients and their dogs at DDI's office. It was a lot of fun and the proceeds went to an animal rescue organization. We got a few frame-worthy shots of our dog just in time for the holidays for an incredibly reasonable price that went to a great cause!!! read more

We've been using DDI for daily walks for about nine months now. For the most part, we've been absolutely thrilled. Our rescue pup is a sweetheart, but she's a bit anxious around and suspicious of new people. I think it says it all that she warmed up almost instantly to Kenzie and Julia, who have been her two full-time walkers (and who both deserve specific mention for taking such good care of our goofball). The daily reports are great: pictures, a quick status update about the walk, and GPS tracking to show us the walk route. The only reason this isn't a five-star rating (and honestly, I still debated whether it should be) is that there was a stretch of weeks in between Kenzie and Julia during which we didn't have a full-time walker, and instead had a rotating group of folks. That didn't work quite as well for us, but to DDI's credit, they proactively worked with us to help address our concerns (and refunded the cost of a couple of walks). Perhaps most important, they've redesigned their business model now to ensure that dogs see almost exclusively the same walkers every day. I adopted my dog 3 years ago. He (Archie) is the love of my life...so when it came to having someone watch him (who I didn't know), I was scared to death. I was so thrilled to find Dogs Deserve It. I live in Old Town and the care I get is unbelievable. One time my dog was supposed to be picked up by a friend (who forgot to get him) and DDI saved the day! Another time I had a last minute medical emergency and again they helped me through it. DDI is so accommodating and wonderful. It is nice to get to know the walkers (for the most part you get the same walker not a random person so your dog gets to know him/her). The office staff is amazing too!!! There are a ton of other dog services but the difference is that I trust the people in my house AND with my dog (they do more background checks and interviewing than other dog walking services). We have been using Dogs Deserve It for 3 months and could not be happier! We started out with four 15-minute walks per week and are expanding to five 25-minute walks per week. The customer service is incredible and our walker, Richie, is an absolute angel. I love getting to see a picture of Daisy every day after her walk, along with a note of what she did (met new friends, chased squirrels, #1 or #2, etc.) and a map of where they walked. Richie also refreshes her water and gives her a treat after her walk. Another great thing is it is very easy to cancel your walk if necessary. A few times, we've been sick or needed to work from home last minute. We were able to cancel Daisy's walk via email by 7:45 AM and were not charged any fees. The Dogs Deserve It Team is amazing. Not only do they take amazing care of my dog during our walks, but the updates and photos they send definitely give me peace of mind while I'm work. They are also very accommodating. When my wife was about to give birth, I wasn't sure what I would do about my dog knowing we would likely end up in a get up and go situation. Where to start!? We have been with DDI for six years, at first in our apartment in River North and now in our condo in Lincoln Park. We have two dogs and a cat and we use DDI for walks (weekday and weekend) and pet sits. I knew we were in for a treat when Lauren came by our apartment to meet puppy Scottie back in 2012 and talk through their puppy walks and philosophy. First, they LOVE my dogs. At the end of the day I want anyone that walks my dogs and stays at my home to watch them when we're traveling to truly care for them the same way I would. DDI walkers do just that. The notes and pictures I get in the app (and also sent to my inbox) demonstrate that my doggos are getting the same TLC that they would get when I walked them (if not more)! Second, they are responsive and actionable. My one example here is when a walker went above and beyond when a "beep" was going off in my home upon returning to the house after a walk. The walker thought it sounded like a smoke alarm, so DDI called me to let me know they were bringing my pups to their office until I was able to get home. Another example is when our flight was delayed and ultimately cancelled coming home from the West Coast. I emailed our pet-sitter and DDI and they were able to find coverage for me; they were even down with taking the dogs to our day-care for boarding if they were not able to accommodate having a last-minute sitter come to our home. Finally, DDI is like family. My husband and I are both Chicago transplants and it truly takes a village. DDI is a second family to us and we know our dogs (and cat!) are in great hands when they are with someone from DDI. Lauren and her wonderful staff (many of who have walked our pups at one point!) have our doggies best interests at heart and do a wonderful job of providing reliable and doggie-loving walkers to their Chicago roster. I want to preface that I have waited a year to write this review because I was so seething from my experience: I started using DDI after a friend recommended them and I had read all the glowing reviews. My dog was 11 and starting to slow down but I still wanted her out and about while I was at work. They send you notes everyday and it's time stamped so it all seemed really legitimate. After the first week the walker explained that my dog was really slow so he couldn't go far because he was worried he wouldn't have time to get back so they were barely walking .2 miles per walk. Fast forward a month - I had the flu and was barely able to get out of bed so I just shut my door and had him come as usual as if I wasn't there. He came in & "started" the walk - at which time he proceeded to hang on my couch for 12 minutes and then quickly took her out for 2-3 minutes before leaving - my favorite part was the carefully crafted note about their "walk". I reached out to Lauren and she assured me this was not the norm - I mean what else was she going to say - he was warned but things didn't get better. I came home early once to witness him dragging my elderly dog while texting on his phone. I had already planned to be out of town so I couldn't cancel my service with DDI because I didn't have a back up and Lauren assured me someone else would be staying with my dog who was wonderful. I'll just fast forward to what I came home to - the sitter left multiple used condoms in my bed side trash and there was throw up in my bathroom when I arrived home. I was STUNNED to say the least - when I told Lauren she actually said to me "Ugh I can't believe this - now I have to find someone to replace her" - excuse me? You're complaining to me. At the heart of all of this I just want to say - our animals are family - the constant in all of these instances is that the individuals here don't seem to be led be a genuine interest in taking care of the animal you're paying them to assist with. The unfortunate part in all of this is our animals can't speak up for themselves so please stand up for your pets and do not use DDI. read more
