I've heard so many great things about DogGone Natural prior to getting my new dog, so my expectations were set rather high. Luckily, the folks over at this store exceeded those expectations. I walked in with my tiny yorkie in hand and was immediately greeted by an employee. I told her that I was looking for a gentle shampoo for my young pup and she guided me to the right product. I picked up my shampoo and decided to browse the store a bit. Although overwhelming, there seemed to be a variety of items my pup, Guinness would love to try. I planned to come back in a few weeks to try some food out as I had just purchased something from PetSmart the day before. Walked up to the register and I was greeted by someone who I believe was a manager/owner. I noticed him greeting customers by name as they walked in--huge plus. The manager noticed Guinness pretty quickly and started giving me awesome recommendations for her to snack on. After a few minutes of chatting, not only did he give me recommendations, but he sent me home with a boat-load of samples for Guinness to try! We got home and Guinness chowed down on one of the products he gave me. Wish I would have asked his name, but I was so surprised by the awesome customer service, it slipped my mind. Awesome service. My dog food is so hard to find and I'm so happy that they have it here at Doggone Natural and always in stock. Previous pet stores I've been to had to special order it which always reminded me how bad a dog parent I was and always almost ran out of food too many times. The staff is always the same when I come in which makes it feel more comfortable knowing that they're knowledgeable and truly caring staff members that love their job. They also always offer to help me carry the bag out. I wish they'd have some specials to encourage me to try some new treats because it was on sale or something. We have shopped with them for a few years now and have always had positive experiences. Great store hours, friendly and good customer service, and competitive prices. We used to order from Chewy.com to save a little bit of money, but discovered DogGone Natural by accident when we were running low on dried dog food. Surprisingly, their prices were the same as Chewy, but we also get a free bag of dog food after purchasing so many bags. If they don't have what you need in their store, they can special order for you. Also, they do genuinely care about your pets. The owner had heard one of my fur babies was having digestive issues and provided recommendations that resolved the issue and saved us a trip to the vet. I recently got a BichPoo puppy Ziggy and being a new pet owner I had no clue of what type of food to give. A friend suggested this store and I am so thankful for this suggestion. Not only is the store extremely neat, clean, and organized, the young lady working there is so helpful and knowledgeable(sorry but I can't remember her name) The first time we went there, she gave me a few samples to try and our puppy loved all of them. I went back a couple of days ago to see if I can move him up from kibble to dry/canned food and again she was extremely helpful. Not only that, she came out to the entrance of the store to welcome Ziggy. I love this store. They go out of their way to help you. I also checked pricing on Chewy website of the same foods that Ziggy has been eating and this place has it cheaper by $5 at least. You won't be disappointed with this store.. do try it!! read more

I don't know if it's Kim but the woman we encountered yesterday was an arrogant crab apple at best. We recently arrived in the area and were looking for a place to get the puppy a birthday treat (not my idea but the gf who is pretty neurotic when it comes to her two Cavaliers). Angel LOVES Frosty Paws, so that's what we asked for when we walked in. In fact, I've never met a dog that didn't love a frosty paw. They must be laced with Chinese crack or something. Kind of like our Mister Softee ice creams with the chocolate sprinkles when we were kids. Instead of a smile and offering other delectable options, we were pretty much lectured with a scowl about why THAT treat is totally unacceptable for any puppy consumption. My gf, being the friendly and respectful individual that she is, chatted with the unhappy woman behind the counter anyway. After all, my gf LOVES to spend money for her dogs and was hoping for some good and friendly recommendations on stuff to buy. When asked what she feeds her dogs, my gf told the woman "raw meat/veggies with a sprinkle of Iams kibble". She was lectured again about the poor quality of THAT brand/type of kibble and basically judged by the unhappy woman behind the counter. It was the first time anybody made my gf feel like an irresponsible mom of two very pampered and well taken care of dogs. Needless to say, she only bought a box of organic frosted something or other and a couple of rawhide bull peckers (yes, apparently dogs LOVE these things too but then again, I've known dogs to eat rocks, cat poop and lick other dog butts, so there's no surprise). We left the store vowing NEVER to go back. The way I see it: if you're gonna be in retail sales (especially when it comes to pets) then you better learn to smile and be a little more enthusiastic about your business and how you treat your customers who ALWAYS have a choice about where they're gonna spend their money on their pets. When your store is COMPLETELY empty of any customers and you're operating in a down economy , you better ramp up your efforts if you wish to turn a profit. That's all I have to say about that. Am I really writing a review of a pet store? Yep! Ted, my 5 lb yorkie (I'm not afraid to be a 6'2 235lb man whose companion is a 5 lb foo foo dog) is a picky eater, never really had success finding him food he'd eat; but Doggone has it, they gave me a few samples at first and he loved every bit of it before I went and bought the "big bag"....I decided to settle on feeding my dog their Great Life brand with Bison (I mean, Bison is what a Yorkshire terrier would eat in the wild right? ;) ). I've even moved my 25 lb cat to their great life brand and he loves it (yes a 5 lb dog and a 25 lb cat, I am comfortable with my masculinity!), This is a great store for those who have dogs with allergies, special diets, etc. They have something to fulfill your needs. We stumbled upon Kim and her fabulous shop about a year ago. They are super friendly and helpful and on top of that, Kim really seems to care about your pet. She has worked very hard on helping us try to find a food that will help with our dog's allergies. And now that we have found a food, they work with us to order bulk orders and save us money! Customer service, customer service, customer service... I came to Doggone Natural at the recommendation from a friend. I had been looking to slim down my dogs and move them away from processed commercial foods that we had been feeding them. Although I am a dog owner and I believe myself to be pretty knowledgeable about my pets there is at least one thing that I am definitely clueless about: animal nutrition. That's why it was a breath of fresh air to walk into Doggone Natural. The store is clean and very well laid out. My wife and I were able to walk about and look at all the toys and treats, supplements and grooming products which we haven't seen before. A lot of what is at this store is all natural and a fantastic alternative to some of the larger box stores and pet shops. As you can tell by the 'title' of my review I was absolutely impressed by the customer service at Doggone Natural. We were welcomed into the store and allowed to walk around without being 'hounded'. Instead, when we were asked if we had questions Kim proved to be very, very knowledgeable about each of the products that she carries and why one item may have a benefit over another. Rather than apathy or trying to get us to purchase by using the hard sell, Kim worked with us to decide which were the best products for our dogs which would fit our budget. Even better, Kim took our contact information and provided us with a complete breakdown of how much food to feed our 3 dogs. There is a large variety of foods and treats to choose from. This isn't some store where the person behind the counter just wants to ring up your order. New location but same great prices and friendly service. I went out to the new location and it's really nice. Although I liked going to the Carolina Bros BBQ when it was across the street at the old place, but the new spacious store allows more storage and allows the customer to look around. My friend turned me onto to the raw diet for the dogs and this is the only place in the NOVA area that carries Oma's Pride Dog Food. I also buy the salmon oil that puts a nice sheen on my dog's coats. It's a little more pricey but I think it's worth it. The people who work here are passionate about improving pet's health and "going raw" is definitely a controversial topic in the veterinary world. I compare the mainstream food brands IAMs, Hill's Science Diet, etc to the fast food of the pet food world: it probably tastes good and fills the belly but it's bad for you and your dog. Do yourself a favor and read the ingredients of your pet food and do a search. If you personally wouldn't eat brewer's rice or chicken-by-product then I would consider not feeding it your dogs. Lastly if you conclude that you want to try raw out, come to this place. read more

This store has a great selection of dog and cat toys! The toy selection is better than that of the traditional Pet Smart and Petco. They have a competitive selection of puzzle toys to keep your dog entertained. These types of toys are important to have for your dog, but the Petco and Pet Smarts don't stock them. This store also has doggie poop bags cheaper than you can buy at Target. As well as the best priced bully sticks I have seen. read more

My mom and I just got an Australian Shepherd puppy at the beginning of the summer, and we had orginaly taken him to PetCo and got some food there and a bunch of bones and what not. In my own research I started to figure out that the stuff we had him on wasn't the best and around the same time we found DogGone Natural. My mom and I stopped in there and the staff was extremely knowledgeable about dog food and pet nutrition. We started off just getting food and as we got better treats for him, started our dog on salmon oil, my mom and I both saw a dramatic change in his coat, his stools, and his overall health. If you are reading this review, and you haven't at least stopped by the store, you really should. I visited this store this morning looking for kibble appropriate for my 3 month old puppy who is having chronic diarrhea. I was helped by a man (I assume the owner) who had useful information and recommendations for me after asking some questions about my puppy. His wife is an animal nutritionist, obviously he knows a lot on the subject too. The advice he gave was helpful and I left with two flavors of a new brand of food to try. I'm not in a position to spend boo-coo bucks on a top-shelf raw, organic, grain-free, $$$ diet for my pets, but I do want to provide them with quality food. Great store! I found the general layout of the store to be fantastic and inviting, and very easy to shop in. Clean, good displays, well faced stock. There was a big emphasis on Great Life, which was clear from a huge wall of it and a large display right in the middle of the store - Great Life is a wonderful food and hard to find in VA. Another great thing about the store was their pricing - their availability on raw and alternative foods was high (5 or more brands I believe) and their pricing the lowest I have seen in NOVA. I bought Primal and Tiki Cat for my babies here and they loved both - I certainly loved the low cost. Unfortunately it's a bit far from me, and the pricing isn't quite low enough to make up the cost in gas, but if I'm in the area, I'll definitely be stopping by. read more

I've been coming here five years or more, and I can't imagine a better pet supply store. It has a great selection of natural choices for pets, and the staff genuinely cares about your pets health. I must admit I knew I was in Ashburn when I first spied the Icelandic Catfish Skins, but hey, the dogs love them! Bones, chews, treats, dry and wet food, leashes, coats, supplements, shampoos, and many other accessories; they have it all. This store is definitely a small town treasure. They sell all kinds of dog food and supplements. Their prices are great or at least comparable to prices online. The staff has always been friendly and helpful. Many of the supplements like the flea and tick herbal powder and drops I had never seen anywhere else but works well without exposing my dogs to toxins. The staff in this store are horribly discourteous. They are very judgmental and try to force products onto you. Even if you try it and then don't like them or if they don't seem to get the result you want, they act as if you are the problem instead of the product. I know a lot of people who go here because they carry Great Life. Addiction Brand dog food is just as good if not better. My dogs have gotten a better result on Addiction than they did on Great Life. Bottom line if you want customer service along with your high quality products this is not the place to go. read more

Was a very happy customer here until recently. I've been living in Ashburn for 7 years and have been buying everything for my dog here since. Also have been relying on the knowledgeable staff for healthy suggestions for my dog. In recent months I've noticed customer service has gone down. Last straw of terrible customer service was today. The cashier was scanning my items when I noticed a $1 price difference on one of the items. She checked and confirmed that the price tag on the product was incorrect and had not been corrected. I asked if she would honor the lower price tag as stated on the tag and she basically blew me off with excuses such as we are a small business and cannot make adjustments. She didn't even try to resolve this $1 error on their part and kept saying her hands were tied. I told her if you can't honor this $1 error for a good customer than you just lost this customer. I left all the items I was planning on buying and left the store. I will be frequenting other local pet stores that care about their loyal customers going forward. read more

Wandered in looking for a birthday treat for my 1 year old KC Cav who we had with us and ended up buying way more than we expected...but that's because we were impressed with what we saw!!! My dog has the best life anyone could ask for. She even has the pleasure of being insanely spoiled by her "Grandpa" who introduced me to this place. We have taken Penny (my dog) here at least 4 times on a shopping spree, no joke, the dog sniffs something we put it in the basket. Every time we have visited we get a warm welcome and one on one customer service that many dream of. It doesn't hurt that Penny is freaking adorable (I may be biased) as she commands the attention of the employees there. They are able to answer my questions and suggest products that best suit her needs. Their organic treat/food selection is impeccable and even their hygiene (shampoo) is natural based. They have a good selection of raw hides, antlers, and chews. The products they carry are probably the best quality manufactured dog products, not filled with a lot of they by products and "bad" chemicals like a lot of big name brands have in their pet food. This is the ONLY reason I'm giving it even a 2 star review. That being said, the woman who runs the place is difficult, pushy, judgmental, and frankly, seemed ignorant to me. She talked to me like I was completely ignorant, regardless of the fact that she knew nothing of my education. I have unfortunately found a lot of holistic/homeopathic professionals to be that way. She did not help me with what I was looking for, did not have helpful suggestions, did not listen to what I was concerned about, and just wanted to push me into becoming a client of hers to have her treat my dog, who, under the diet I've been feeding him, has not been having any problems! She also seemed to have a lot of conspiracy theory ideas about modern medicine... I did not end up buying much, I was so put off by this crazy woman talking to me like I was an idiot. I will probably not be a returning customer for that reason alone. If you don't know anything, or COMPLETELY subscribe to the homeopathic/holistic medicine thing and believe that modern medicine is evil, the government and pharmaceutical companies are out to get us, and vaccines are causing all the problems in the world, or are willing to be swept up by the propaganda this woman was spouting, then this is the place for you! If you are an educated reasonable down to earth person who believes that there can be a happy balance between natural treatments and modern medicine, like if you want to make sure your dog doesn't die of distemper or rabies or EVERYTHING ELSE WE VACCINATE FOR, I'd recommend saving yourself the headache and just order the stuff online. The people at this store are not going to give you any helpful advice, and are just going to try to push you to change everything you're doing if you don't believe exactly what they believe, even if its a program that is working for your dog/cat. read more

This place changed mine and my boyfriends life. My boyfriends pitt has suffered from the most SEVERE allergies his whole life, he's 3. The owner Kim, and the other staff helped us find something that would work for him. She took so much time and patience and even called us at home when she found out more information. Cain (our pitt) was on medicine given by our vet that would eventually kill him. Thanks to Kim's help he has been off the horrible medicine and he's PERFECT. No more red, dry skin... we NEVER thought we would see the day. She still currently works with us to make sure we stay on top of Cain's allergies. We got a puppy Rottweiler in October who, thanks to our glorious luck, was basically just as sick. The vet couldn't help us and the little guy was losing his hair and was lethargic and miserable. Again, Kim helped us with different sprays and food etc. He's now doing amazing. I would NEVER go anywhere else.. I can't believe anyone would have a problem here! read more

The products at Doggone Natural are great, if you can tolerate the arrogant customer service. I used to recommend this store to friends that needed help in finding better quality food for their dogs, but they complained to me that Kim was judgmental and condescending. Although I was a regular customer, Kim was not warm and friendly and several times rang up my sale while talking on the phone and having almost no interaction with me. I can buy the same brands at Whole Pet Central and get much better service. read more

I would never recommend this store to anyone, I had written them an email asking them some important question (for me at least), they never wrote me back about my concerns of them being over bearing and judgemental! I went to the store and the staff wasn't very friendly when I told them i was feeding something store bought ( Iams). it's fine that they are into all natural crap but that doesn't mean they have to judge or shove it down other peoples throat. The lady that owns it is also a "pet nutrionalist". From the research i've done there are no degrees or college training to be a "pet nutrionalist" and I'm pretty sure she has no vet degree.
