Took my dog in for a full grooming service. Dropped him off and spoke with the groomer about my dog…read moreand what needed to be done. My dog's hair was short in length but choppy and I just wanted him to clean him up and bathe him. He told me it would be an hour which I thought was fast but he didn't have any other clients waiting. When I returned to pick up my dog - the groomer's first words were "he was barky". Well what do you expect? He's a dog and there are plenty of other puppies in Petland he can hear. He grabs my dog and quickly puts him on a leash and ushers me to the front desk to pay. So quickly I barely got to look at my dog. But right away I noticed that instead of trimming and grooming him correctly, my dog was just shaved (my dog is a Yorkie, I wanted a short puppy cut not a complete shave) I pay and get to my car and realize that after all of that work - my dog wasn't even BATHED! And apparently to cover it up the groomer just dumped a ton of puppy cologne on him. To top things off (and what pisses me off the most) my dogs toe was nicked during the grooming process. There was an obvious cut on his right front paw - likely from the shear - that was bleeding. The groomer didn't not tell me that my dog was injured! All of this - horrible groom, no bath, and an injured dog. 40 dollars! Which is the price of the groomer I use in Lawrence that grooms them with scissor cutting. AVOID THIS GROOMER!

Yikes. I'm a…read morenonprofit animal rescue curator and veterinary professional. I decided to take two of our adoptables in for a bath after they swam at Shawnee Lake. I asked up front if there was a rescue discount and was informed that there isn't. Of course, just after paying for the baths, the prompt on Petco's credit card machine read: would you like to help us save animals? Well, Petco. Would YOU like to help ME save animals? Come on now. The bath station was atrocious. Hair all over the floor, hair all in the tubs and drains. Hair covered the walls and steps, as well. Suffice it to say, no one had bothered cleaning and it looked like at least 3 customers had come through with dense and longer coated dogs, like Labs. The tubs hadn't even been rinsed. There were muddy paw prints leading up the steps ‍ The shampoo dispenser is laughable. There is a note on the wall stating that the machine is "trying her best". Look, y'all have shampoo bottles for sale on the floor if you can't afford to get a machine fixed. I let the machine run for 10 mins while I deshed my largest dog. Still no soap, I tasted the water. As such, my dogs left there smelling like pond water instead of shampoo. And, yes, I tried both the shampoo and puppy shampoo options. At best, this is a place to RINSE your dogs, not bathe them. I also found that there were no nail trimmers. I asked the help desk and was told they don't stock them for use. So, if you're looking to rinse your dog indoors instead of just hosing them off outdoors, this is the place for you. If you're looking to actually be supplied with soap, conditioner, nail trimmers, sizeable towels and a clean station, try any place but this one.
