We stayed here for. Night and absolutely loved it. Such a beautiful hotel. It has been renovated from an old historic building. The lighting, decor, bathrooms, it's all top notch. Can't wait to go back. To make it even better, there's a great cafe downstairs that serves delicious food & coffee. I recommend the americano. If you're planning on breakfast, get there before 10, they "shut the waffle maker off at 10". read more

We stayed overnight in Room 1 with windows overlooking Hwy 16. This hotel is at the intersection of Hwy 16 and US 190, so there is traffic noise, but I didn't hear any after 10pm and it started back up around 5:30am. People do go to work in this area! The hotel provides ear plugs (orange foam type) that don't work in my ears; but luckily I had my own wax plugs that drowned out the noise....advise you to bring what works best for you. Otherwise, the room was very pleasant( the bed is soooo comfortable! The bathroom faucets work backwards, but you catch on quick. The shower faucet was evidently backwards too because instead of turning it to the left for hot water, you keep it to the right; now that took me a while to figure out...I left it on so my husband didn't have to figure it out (he got in right after I got out). My husband was bothered that there were no directions on how to use the tv control. Also, there is no elevator, but that was not a problem with me going up 3, 10-step landings. The restaurant which is downstairs from the hotel was closed but there are plenty of places to eat in town. I recommend Agave Jalisco since the food is delicious! Another restaurant I recommend is Diggs (disregard the outside appearance because the food is delicious)! I would definitely stay at the hotel again, knowing what to expect. read more

Small, fairly private, a bit pricey for this location. We paid $180 night over the Easter weekend. The communication was great. This is an unattended hotel with no immediate staff. You receive an entry code via text. That code gets you into the exterior doors and your room. The keypad on the room functioned but the audible tones are annoyingly loud. There are only six rooms in this hotel and all share a common wall. So, every time your neighbor enters their code, or has to re-enter in over and over you hear it inside your room. (please disable that audible tone). The room was appointed nicely and was clean. They king bed was very comfortable and the bedding was clean and warm. The television was good but the remote was very confusing and no instructions were present. The bathroom was modern and well equipped. The shower had a nice rain head which worked fine. Check out time was noon, which is why I was annoyed when the maid knocked on our door at 11:30am, to "see if everything was okay". Yes, the do not disturb sign was on the door. There is not a coffee pot in the room but a community Keurig was in the common gathering space. All of the rooms face the primary street and traffic noise was present. This isn't a party town so other than the occasional loud vehicle it wasn't a big deal. Overall, it's nice considering the alternatives. read more

It was love at first sight. And when I I say first sight, I mean from the Austin Monthly Magazine. There was an article I read before I was recycling my magazine. I pulled out the travel section and booked my room. The hotel was SUPER clean, completely renovated and ultra sexy. It was a mix of industrial meets farmhouse. Every detail was planned to the T. From the high quality bedding the the rugs. The bathrooms were something you'd want in your dream home. Heck, I wanted everything in my home. If i could some up in one word, it would be perfect. Yup, it was perfect and dreamy and insta worthy. I went insta crazy. San Saba is a great little town to visit for a weekend getaway. This place is a must stay. Before we checked out, we saw the cleaning crew ironing the sheets. Ironing the sheets y'all. I mean, that just tells you how much attention to detail they are. My guess is the owner is OCD and I'm okay with that. I really can't wait to come back. Thanks for the delicious pecans too. My stay was perfect, your hotel is perfect!!! read more

This boutique hotel is very cute! They have done a great job with the decor & all of the furnishings. We stayed in room #6 which is what they call the "suite". It's a little larger room at the end of the hallway so it has 2 walls of windows overlooking San Saba. I highly recommend spending the few extra dollars for this room. For the most part our experience was good but there were a few issues. The major one was lack of communication. There is no front office so you have to call what I assume is the owners phone. We called the morning of our arrival on 2 occasions to ask a question and nobody answered. Then during our stay, water from all of the rain began to come in through the window and pour onto the hardwood floors. We wanted to notify the hotel so we called the number and got no answer. I sent an Instagram message and got no answer. We texted and got not answer. I'm not sure how many calls it took to get a hold of someone but it was just frustrating that it took so much effort on our part to reach someone. They really need to work on answering their customers calls. Then come to find out, my parents are interested in staying here this summer. They had a question so they sent an email to the hotel & they have yet to receive a reply! Very poor communication. The other minor issue is the wifi was spotty. For the majority of the trip, I could never get on the wifi. Just a heads up - expect poor service. My tip for wine drinkers - There's a wonderful winery next door but make sure if you buy a bottle to drink to have them open it for you. There are no bottle openers at the hotel. Hopefully they add one to their coffee bar area soon because with a winery next door it only makes sense. read more

Beautiful property. Gorgeous rooms. However.. We were led to feel that this hotel was upholding COVID guidelines and taking necessary precautions. This was not at all the case. There wasn't hand sanitizer upon entry at all the doors which requires the use of a finger pin pad each time for all the guests. We woke up to find housekeepers congregating in the hallway without masks, cleaning rooms without any PPE (after waking us up talking on the phone in the hall all morning), went downstairs to try the coffee shop below only to find every employee behind the bar not wearing a mask while serving food and drinks. We don't recall interacting with any employee of this hotel or the restaurant who was wearing a mask or providing an appropriate six feet of distance from guests and other employees. This was my only outing in the last year as a healthcare worker, we are newly engaged and it was our anniversary. We thought, maybe this ONE time, we deserved to enjoy ourselves safely at a place we could trust. We really believed that the super small boutique style hotel with so many raves about the contact-less check in would be holding themselves to a higher standard. They did not. Leaving three stars because the building and rooms are simply beautiful and post-covid, should be a lovely place to stay for anyone. But for now, maybe wait until it is safer. read more

Much as I would like to give this hotel 5 stars unfortunately I just can't. It's unfortunate because this hotel is in an historic building that has been remodeled in the most amazing way. It is gorgeous! The shower is a walk-in and it is huge. The bathroom has a wooden barn door. The hotel has beautiful wood floors throughout. The lighting accents add all the charm needed but they didn't stop there, they added beautiful artwork. The room is well appointed and has a nice tv with dish network and free wifi. The bed is very comfortable with nice linens. There is a common area at the end of the hallway where there is a coffee maker and an ice and water machine. With all of these amazing things why would this hotel not be rated a 5? Noise It is located on a main road through town. All night (and morning) you can hear every truck and 18 wheeler or hot rod or motorcycle with loud pipes that comes by. Which means you can't sleep. I had earbuds and used a cell phone app with nature sounds and could still hear trucks. If you have any type of sleeping issues at all this may be an issue for you. The second issue we had with sound were the housekeepers. About 8:30am they congregated in the common area I mentioned and were talking loudly. So loud that we heard them in our room. We were in the room at the other end of the hall. At first I thought it may be other guests but my husband went to look and it was employees in hotel shirts. Their loud talking equal no sleep. Additionally, the continued loud talking interrupted the peace of the morning which made it difficult for us to enjoy our beautiful room and our day away. It was irritating. We had planned to eat breakfast at the restaurant that is associated with the hotel that is located downstairs. On our way down we saw two ladies walking out the door and we casually asked how the breakfast was and they said to go somewhere else. It was so bad they said they had left their food on the table and were going to eat their left over lunch from the day before. They then began to complain about the loud talking they had to endure from the employees that morning. The bottom line is if you want to sleep you would probably want to skip this hotel. I have stayed at $45.00 roadside Route 66 hotels and slept like a log compared to here. Since the main reason for staying in a hotel (well, usually, lol) is to sleep, these noise issues totally defeat the purpose. This is such a shame for such a great property. But if you just want to stay in a gorgeous and beautifully decorated remodeled old building this is the place for you. read more

Great place. I'm a sucker for an historic property. Hats off, the owners have really done well on this place. Yes, it's a bit noisy; you won't sleep until noon. But, great bathroom, bed, and very clean. The hotel is a great value and that's what I'm after. Suggestions?: Make the door key pads silent, we heard someone coming in late. Maybe runners down hall to absorb some hall noise. Coffee makers in room instead of common area might be nice, but now I'm getting picky! I'll definitely be back and would stay here in a heartbeat. read more

Part of me doesn't want to give this hotel a good review because then I know it'll get super popular and I'll never be able to book a room again... But I also want them to stay in business so I can return...:) We had such a lovely time staying at the Dofflemyer. Check-in was a breeze; the rooms were stylish and clean - the mattresses and linens were all high quality and there was a ceiling fan. The hotel was quiet at night. San Saba is revitalizing and everything is within walking distance to the hotel - two wineries, several restaurants (I recommend Napoli), adorable stores, historic churches, a grocery store, etc. If you are looking for a fun hill country getaway that is much quieter than Fredericksburg, I highly recommend the Dofflemyer and San Saba! read more

Passing thru San Saba we stumbled upon this amazing hotel and promptly called to ask if rooms were available. Luckily one room was available for one night, # 3. We were delighted with everything, high tin ceiling, beautiful bathroom and the most comfortable bed I have ever slept on! I was woken by the noises from the cafe below so must have been directly over it. Even so, will definitely recommend, and plan to return. read more
