This is a wonderful place for a quiet getaway! Her house is one of a kind. She painted beautiful murals on the walls and every room is fully equipped with everything you could need. The upstairs screened porch was wonderful. Her breakfast was amazing too. I highly recommend. San Saba is a must visit !!

When you reserve a place to stay, sometimes you're not quite sure how the place is going to turn out. But sometimes you are totally surprise with a fantastic place, as with Aunt M's Illustrated Inn! Mae Gonzales was a fantastic host, with a beautiful place, the most comfortable beds ever, and a fantastic breakfast to top it off! Mae has painted all of the walls and they're beautiful! Plan a visit to San Saba Texas and make a reservation with Mae at the Aunt M's Illustrated Inn and you won't regret it! Thanks Mae for the wonderful hospitality! https://youtu.be/gbt6EIwyy-Q

I can't say enough to properly convey the wonderful experience my husband and I had during our stay at Aunt M's Illustrated Inn. The charming hostesses ensured our visit was enjoyable from the moment we walked in the door with their friendly and personalized tour of the house to the most amazing breakfast spread any dignitary would be impressed with! No detail was overlooked-fresh homemade cookies assured us we were welcomed, and the plush bathrobes made us feel like we never wanted to leave. The decor is beautiful, warm, welcoming, and charming...much like our hostesses. We can't wait to go back to San Saba!

Reservation is a total mess. Only two rooms. Owner lacks basic customer service skills. Beware and go elsewhere.

So, when I was looking for a venue to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday, I reserved the Vineyard Suite for a four night's stay.

After we checked in we inspected the room and the first thing was the musky smell as you walked in then the dirt sheets, filthy bathroom, and crickets everywhere. We did ask for another room and the owner shown use another room on the second deck, however it was not better but worst. It's a good hotel if you want to rough it for a night. When she arrived they charged her $10 extra and basically told her the price she was quoted was not the price of the room. An hour later I came to check in and my rate was as quoted. When I asked the man at the counter why I was given the price quoted and my friend was not he said that prices change and rambled on forever about "how motels work". He made a comment that if I wanted to complain about my friend he would charge me the increased amount too. He then told me that if someone were to come in and be willing to pay more money for my room he would give it to them. As we entered the room is was HOT! I chose to hang out outside as it was cooler out there than it was in the room. Now for the really gross part....the room is beyond disgusting! Stains and stuff on the walls, floor, bathroom, sheets, cigarette burns in the sheets, holes all over the walls. This place is a mess and the staff is aggressive and rude. If you are looking for a place to stay in San Saba, pass this one up! You have been warned!!

You approach the resort by dirt roads, but they are well maintained and no problem for our sedan. The Tesla nav system was accurate. We had no problems getting there and back. Kelly and Brian are excellent hosts. Brian can regale you with many anecdotes from Central Texas history, most of which I had not heard before, even though we've lived in the Lone Star State for 38 years. Our room was quiet, cool, and comfortable. The lobby is also quiet and is a great place to sit and read. There are two very sweet dogs that have the run of the place. We had a lot of fun interacting with them. You can walk the grounds and along the dirt roads with nearly zero traffic. I do recommend sturdy hiking boots, as cockleburrs are plentiful. There are also venomous snakes in this area, although we did not see any. Better safe than sorry. We will certainly return. I'm thinking March or April will be perfect to catch the wildflowers and get in before the summer heat. Please the attached photo captions for additional comments.

I just happened to see something come through my newsfeed over Fb, I bookmarked it, found my schedule open, so headed east to check it out. Emma likes to play in her room... and who doesn't like to play with little spirits?! I didn't know the history of the Magnolia Hotel so was totally clueless walking in the door... Magnolia Hotel has been on Ghost Adventures on Travel Channel. Also, Magnolia Hotel is ~not~ a hotel, it is now a personal residence. To my delight, I was able to hear stories of the old hotel, tales of it's past residents many of which have never left, and how Magnolia Hotel was discovered by the owners. Jim & Erin saved the Magnolia from being demolished... they single handedly have saved a part of Seguin history!... and some haunted history at that! I spent about two hours just hanging out, looking around, and people watching... talked to some interesting people, listening to questions and answers... all very interesting. Did I have an experience? I had something creepy go up the back of my left neck and skull as I was talking to a ghost hunter in the original dining area where the owner was sitting. I also felt some weird things around the house... but something I brushed off at first until I started listening to others talk about it... when you first come up the stairs, it feels really heavy. I originally brushed it off as I just walked up the stairs... but no, go back and you feel it... and everyone was feeling it!!! Emma was playing in her room. One of the guides said just a few minutes earlier, a little girl got scratched. Then someone told her that they saw the door knob in the pink bathroom turn back and forth. The owner, Erin, said this house is more active during the day than at night. Wow! The owners Jim & Erin host a ghost tour in their home on occasion, which books up months in advance. The tour last about 2 hours with in-depth stories which might also include a spiritual reading from the Erin at the end (but only if deceased wish to come forward). Erin has written Haunted New Braunfels, Haunted Seguin, and soon to be released Haunted Magnolia House. All proceeds go towards restoring the Magnolia Hotel. I can not wait to go on their ghost tour!

Everywhere I looked I saw a previously unseen detail that was hand crafted and worthy of further investigation. *The outside deck: spanned the whole length of the home which overlooks the Colorado River basin & wide open skies. There are 4 separate seating areas which allowed us to spread out in a number of small conversation groups - one space has a lovely gas fire table! The loft area also has a space that is set up for working - if you have to log in to work while you are there. *For this particular weekend, the WWR owners had made us a deal for three meals a day at a fair price. It was a wonderful perk to not have to cook, nor leave the property! All the way around, the hosts were amazing! *It was rainy the weekend we were there, so we didn't spend time at the pool / outdoor tiki bar area.... but we will next time! Looking forward to it !
