Since I drive through Mason to get there I figured I would try out a room in Mason. I am glad I did. First, the owner was very friendly and accommodating. The rooms, although small, were very clean and looked like they had been newly remodeled. My only complaint is that the TV. in our room did not get very good reception. For about $55, it was worth it. I will suffer driving 30 miles between Mason and Menard to stay here again.

The staff has been updating and renovating the rooms and the king room that I stayed in was really nice and spacious. It was furnished with a sofa, desk, multiple chairs, 1 vanity in the closet, a large bathroom, mini fridge, micro wave, and a decent size flat screen TV. This is NOT the usual hunters motel with "deer" blood stains. The room rivals accommodations in bigger cities that cost so much more.

You approach the resort by dirt roads, but they are well maintained and no problem for our sedan. The Tesla nav system was accurate. We had no problems getting there and back. Kelly and Brian are excellent hosts. Brian can regale you with many anecdotes from Central Texas history, most of which I had not heard before, even though we've lived in the Lone Star State for 38 years. Our room was quiet, cool, and comfortable. The lobby is also quiet and is a great place to sit and read. There are two very sweet dogs that have the run of the place. We had a lot of fun interacting with them. You can walk the grounds and along the dirt roads with nearly zero traffic. I do recommend sturdy hiking boots, as cockleburrs are plentiful. There are also venomous snakes in this area, although we did not see any. Better safe than sorry. We will certainly return. Our English Labradors enjoyed the sights as much as we did and our stay was spacious enough to share with them comfortably. Patrick is an amazing host - he is accommodating for excursions at all skill levels and is also happy to share his wealth of knowledge about agriculture and the land that his ranch sits on. We left with a greater understanding and appreciation for what it takes to be a steward to this beautiful place. Patrick's staff is also very friendly and happy to show you around. Aaron and Nathan both helped to show us a great time. Our weekend flew by - filled with hunting and horseback adventures.
