Another historic site I needed to visit where I heard Bonnie and Clyde stayed at. Nested near an old railroad depot and on the banks of the Llano River. This old white hotel looks more like a house but now a bed and breakfast. It caters to weddings too. Next door was a house for sale and decided to check out the backyard and noticed a nice enclosed patio at the back of Dabbs. With big trees and a view of the Roy Inks Bridge looks very nice spot for relaxing and drinking wine. The place looks well kept up and was even seeing if they had vacancy for the night. It is walking distance to local restaurants, museum and park next river.

When I'd watch Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory , I'd think... "God, I would love to find someone who's created their own little eccentric world away from everything". Then I met Gary Smith at the Dabbs, and nothing I can write can do it justice. The last of the old Texas railroad hotels, this is not some expensive high end re-creation of 1907 Texas - this IS 1907 Texas. The house is rough around the edges, but the beautifully manicured and landscaped grounds go a long way to set the mood. Lazing the day on open porches, a walk down to the clear river, sunning yourself on the rocks, lying in the waterfalls, spending the night around the fire pit. Wake up to the most amazing cowboy breakfast of bacon, biscuits and gravy. The rooms are great, and if you want to go budget, you can camp in the back yard by the river for 20 or 30 dollars. This is summer camp meets bed & breakfast meets time machine. Go, relax, don't worry about anything. .

You approach the resort by dirt roads, but they are well maintained and no problem for our sedan. The Tesla nav system was accurate. We had no problems getting there and back. Kelly and Brian are excellent hosts. Brian can regale you with many anecdotes from Central Texas history, most of which I had not heard before, even though we've lived in the Lone Star State for 38 years. Our room was quiet, cool, and comfortable. The lobby is also quiet and is a great place to sit and read. There are two very sweet dogs that have the run of the place. We had a lot of fun interacting with them. You can walk the grounds and along the dirt roads with nearly zero traffic. I do recommend sturdy hiking boots, as cockleburrs are plentiful. There are also venomous snakes in this area, although we did not see any. Better safe than sorry. We will certainly return. I'm thinking March or April will be perfect to catch the wildflowers and get in before the summer heat. Please the attached photo captions for additional comments.

First class all the way. Secluded, great pool, amazing view, excellent hosts, two dogs to love on, and a tasty breakfast each morning. Highly recommended. We're already talking about returning next year.
