Disappointing - Unreliable - Salty Cold Food and Management When the mission statement is to make veganism, assessable and delicious Dodah's failed in 2022. The restaurant became a staple for my family and the vegan community. This past year, the service and quality of food have severely diminished. The queue for the hot bar (all prepared food) takes 35 minutes, with just 4 customers in line. Anticipate the wait to reach an hour with about 7 to 8 people. A help-wanted sign lives in the door, possibly a node to internal chaos. Yet the gradual decline over the past few months has proven management ill-equipped and resulted in the lengthy review. Patrons are now greeted by a considerably large serving station that takes up any previous standing room. Cumbersome tables protrude into a nonexistent queue. While an unorganized flow in the dining area leaves customers brushing past seated guest enjoying their meals. Once finding your place in line, a singular employee stands behind the bar and performs ALL tasks. They fulfill Door Dash & UberEats orders, tend to walk-ins, process checks out, and gather drinks. This is at least a 2-3 person job, especially during lunch or dinner. Crazy! On multiple occasions, the single employee stops to prioritize Grubhub or DoorDash. Even while you are in the middle of placing your own order. This often depletes the stations or adds an additional wait time. Over the past months, the staff, the majority if not all new, have a distinctive interpretation of kitchen recipes. Saltier = better! Most items lean on the saltier side, including the mac-n- cheese. General Tso's cauliflower was squishy, the collard greens have had an overpowering taste of coconut. Rice (if remembered to be offered) has even been served burnt. During the holidays, my friends wanted a quick dinner before heading home and opted for Dodahs. The food was mediocre yet overpriced, items on the hot bar were cold, the juice warm and the staff rude. It took an hour to reach the front of the line with just 6 customers. While there is a steady stream of traffic, guests often walk out due to imminent wait times. Upon seeing the staff's irrational prioritization of delivery orders, it's completely understandable. The experience is saturated with murmurs of customers commenting on inconsistencies in serving sizes or requesting heftier servings if paying extra. Our group paid and got in the car but halfway home a friend said "its cold". So, I turned the car around and placed the soggy container swimming in collard green soup spillage on the counter. Unsatisfied, I asked to speak with a manager, only available by phone. The employee begrudgingly calls a man over her cell and hands me the phone. This manager masqueraded for 2 minutes as he "listened", took my name, and phone number, and told me to anticipate his call. Promises to rectify the meal were made and yet unsurprisingly never transpired. This is the second time that I have requested a refund and been denied but certainly the last. I have never seen a business plummet so fast. That's the end of my relationship with the mediocre vegan food and overly priced business. Its customer care needs to be addressed. I do not know what happened, but whatever is going on now is NOT working. I left that uneaten nasty food on the counter. Never again, Janice don't let these young kids ruin your legacy. read more

I was so excited when I realized they were putting a dodah's kitchen here in DC. I've always like the cakes and Mac they sold at moms organic market. The first time I went I tried a little bit of everything thanks to Alejandro. He was really nice and told me about all the items on the menu. The next time I visited I ordered just as much food as the first because me x my bf love vegan food. I just didn't like the fact that the people working that day were being skimp on the general tso cauliflower( filling it up from the small side of the container and then flipping it over) it understand it's a popular item but I shouldn't have to pay extra for two people just to feel like we're getting a full serving. read more

I enjoy Dodah's food and I do go there here and there. They have different entrees like ribs, Mac and cheese, chicken wings, pepper steak and a bunch of different veggie options like garlic Kale, sweet kale, chick peas, potato salad, yams, etc. As much as I enjoy most of the items on their menu I do think there are a little pricey, I guess most vegan places are though. I did order their Turkey and stuffing to try it on thanksgiving and although it was ok the Turkey is pretty much a pan full of sauce with maybe like 6 little pieces of vegan Turkey and some red peppers. The stuffing honestly tasted like stuffing I could have just gotten from Trader Joe's and made myself but it was good. For $30 tho I was like sheesh. When I could maybe just did it myself for $10 bucks if that. If you haven't been there I definitely recommend going. Always down to support a black owned business. read more

The food and service are good. However the last couple times I have been in, the staff have had their noses out of their masks, sometimes taking masks off to make calls. It can be really intimidating for me to ask people to put their masks on, especially when they are about to put my meal together. They seem like really nice guys but it makes me really uncomfortable when they aren't wearing their masks properly. read more

Been a vegetarian since the mid seventies and we use to have to travel to Philly, New York and DC to find a high level of Vegan cuisine. Kai has brought an exceptionally superior Vegan cuisine to our area and even with the Baltimore metro area's rise in Vegan restaurants Dodah's Kitchen is clearly one of the best, and absolutely should be the restaurant on everyone's "bucket" list. Meet Kai, talk with her and one will soon realize that Dodah's is a literal extension, an aspect of her being. She is meticulous and one of the best definitions: (taking, showing, or involving great care and effort) Synonyms for meticulous: careful, conscientious, fussy, loving, painstaking, scrupulous, and to me, this reminds me of Mama in the kitchen !! and with that, we don't even have to talk about the food. read more

I ordered the chicken, collard greens, Mac and cheese and spinach lasagna from Dodah's Kitchen. The portions were pretty small for the price. I only got 3 chicken tenders and small portions of Mac and cheese and collard greens. The chicken, Mac and cheese and collard greens were very salty. The Mac and cheese appeared to be mixed with some sort of tomato sauce which was off putting. Ordered online for takeout. Could not have asked for friendlier service. I'm not usually a fan of vegan restaurants but the food was out of this world!! Our son has a dairy intolerance and it was such a relief to be able to order freely from the menu without worrying that something might happen to have butter in it and upset his stomach later. We got the sweet kale salad (tasted like a soy-based, Asian-style dressing- delicious!!), Mac n cheese (usually I find vegan pasta too dry but this was delicious), Philly "cheesesteak" sandwich, chicken & waffles, old bay fries, mint lemonade and a slice of cake and cheesecake to share. FINALLY got to take a trip to a much anticipated location after years of die-hard love of Dodah's products in stores. I have planned trips to grocery stores around when I knew there would be a Dodah's restocking, because their food is so good. I'm not even vegan but will absolutely fight my husband for the last of the Mac N'Cheese. Their Lasagna is also mind-blowing, and has become a staple for us whenever we can come across Dodah's deliciousness in a store. Today we decided to order items we haven't had before, and honestly, everything was amazing. My husband had the general tso's cauliflower and said it was his favorite version of the vegan dish he's ever had.. and it's one of his favorite meals so that's saying a lot. I'm in love with their kale, and we both loved the potato salad.. but THE DRUMMIES!! Soy drummies are hard to come by and we have places in DC that we can find them, but these were better. We took our order, started eating, and realized we were going to need more to take home, and went right back inside to order a second time.
