Had to go to the bar to get service and order which is ok. The drink menu was a QR code, which I appreciate but I also like physical menus. The food menu is minimum and didn't order anything. They don't have anything passed 7pm for food which is unfortunate. Also, it was supposed to be trivia night but I didn't see any games or why it wasn't happening. The ambience is definitely different. Quirky, fun, good instragramable place. Unfortunately, when we arrived although cozy there was a strange smell like burnt candle or burnt something. The candles they have are LED so ruled that out. This is my 2nd time. I would give better review but I am a little disappointed by their overall offerings.

At first glance it appears super tiny, but the bar goes back pretty far and is a good size. We got there before the nighttime crowds and managed to score the cozy couch in front of the fireplace in the back. It filled up quickly after that, though! The mood is moody and cozy, the perfect spot for making this apart of date night. I can't speak much to the food as we did not order any, but the menu is pretty elevated for a bar. I wouldn't say this place is divey at all, but the menu was still surprising. Service was good and they had a great selection of drinks. I got a hazy IPA (as per usual) and it was delicious! We also got a couple of shots here and absolutely adored the shot glasses they use. They look like tiny cocktail glasses! Overall we thought Holy Moly was a vibe and we will definitely include this in our 6th Ave rotation.

Seating is limited, but the bar is fully stocked! We ordered the chicken caesar salad and the Lil Saigon Sliders. The sliders bring everything you love about a banh mi to a mini slider that is the perfect snack size (although, they were so good we ended up ordering another) Our waitress was super kind and helpful with ordering, even suggesting a cocktail that was delicious. She then said the best option for me would be the mushrooms or the wings because they are lightly breaded and she is gluten free and does well with those. We paid for our drinks and left. I won't be coming back and it's not because of the menu.

We do love pinball, but we might have come along this place randomly. It's been busy the few times we have been, which tend to be weekend afternoons. Lot of machines available, seems like frequent tournaments are going on. According to pinball map they have 24 machines, which is pretty large compared to some places. Not so busy you can't play though, prices are comparable. It doesn't seem too claustrophobic like some places, lots of space to move around. Full bar and friendly service. Places to sit. Definitely check this out if you like pinball. I don't think they have food, but I could be wrong.

I'm 99% sure it didn't have croutons buried in the middle, but she freaked out that her fork hit something crunchy and hard. Was most likely bacon but whatever. (The bacon was cooked too crispy perfection visually). She lost it. He didn't argue and had her another one made with the bacon on the side. Kuddos to him. While I fully sympathize with her concerns with gluten, she didn't fish out an actual crouton to show. The 3 cheese burger is absolutely a must! Super exotic, beautifully presented, and all served in unique tiki mugs. Mine came in a monkey mug, which made it even better. At one point, the bartender even lit my cocktail on fire -- such a fun touch. Speaking of the bartenders, they were fantastic. Friendly, attentive, and clearly passionate about what they do. There are several great tiki bars in Tacoma, with one (Devil's Reef) literally a block away from McMenamin's. But where Devil's Reef leans into the shipwreck aesthetic, Old Hangout reflects more of a tropical cabana. The water feature and fire pit are excellent touches, adding kinetic energy to the bar. Plenty of mood lighting, neon paint, and secluded little booths make this a fantastic date spot. Plus, being able to take your drinks and wander the rest of the building is a neat perk. Their drink presentation is delightful, and they offer more than just the standard tiki fare. After trying several different drinks, I've landed on the Mermaid Spit as my favorite. The sugar on the rim and bright blue color make it a fun treat. The Hawai'i Five-O burger is my favorite dish, with the appetizer sampler a close second. I'd pass on the Banh Mi sandwiches - they're bland, not filled well, and I actually chipped my tooth on one. Occasionally, the bar will flash and a thunderclap will echo through the room. I wish all the bars in McMenamin's were as intricately themed as Old Hangout because I'd spend a lot more time here. As it is, you'll still be spending plenty of money.
