He has stolen the lower unit to my engine. Removed it early winter to rebuild. He seems to have vanished.

A+ - I recently acquired a vintage boat (70's) that had been sitting for awhile. Contacted Ryan to see if he could get it running and water-ready. I'm pleased to report that after a good going through, Ryan was able diagnose its issues and he had the knowledge and expertise to fix them. Really nice guys, completed the job well! The only reason for the three stars is the communication part. I left a message and had to call again to get a call back. Then he called on his way earlier than the appointment and we waited for an extra 30 minutes past the appointment time because of traffic. Lastly, I had to leave and never got a receipt. I have called and left a message and never got it. Not a big deal as my boat was taken care of. Good work/fair price. Update: Aug. 26, 2017 We can't seem to reach him on the phone, for a winterization and some other emergency repair work. Multiple calls, mailbox full and texts as well. So sad. I found Ryan on yelp and figured I'd give him a shot despite an obviously misguided post by this David K fellow. I was fairly certain my gimbal bearings were shot on my bayliner and since I have little experience with marine repair figured I ought to call in a pro. Ryan was definitely that and after listening to my amateur diagnosis he ran some quick tests and got to work. It was clear he knew exactly what he was doing and didn't even seem to mind me shadowing him trying to learn a thing or two. We had her torn down and back in business in no time. Ryan fixed what he said was going to fix, charged me what he said, took as long as he said and even gave me some pointers on fixing my ignition etc. I would refer this guy to any of my friends or family for marine repairs. As far as I'm concerned I've found my boat mechanic. Let me first establish that I've had a lot of outboard mobile mechanic working on my outboards over the years. Until I met Ryan, I was under the impression that all of them are just flakes - irresponsible and unreliable. I've been lucky to run into Ryan while he was working on slip neighbor's outboard this summer. My neighbor had nothing but high praise for him and the quality of his work (always good to hear); Ryan did not have his business cards on him (good as well - not hurting for work!). Luckily, I was smart enough to quickly snap a picture of the back of his Dockside Marine T-shirt, so I was able to get in touch when I was down. Ryan took care of my last engine problem earlier this month. He owned the issue all the way through, till my engine was humming again. Ryan is very professional, and highly knowledgeable. He obviously has a lot of experience. He always showed up on time; he was fast and efficient while working on the problem. Ryan is the real deal - you can feel his excitement while troubleshooting, narrowing down the possible issue. We ordered the likely failed parts he identified; he replaced them. He got my boat back in business as soon as could just hope for. The guy that posted recent negative report on him obviously have not had much experience dealing with outboard mechanics in SD area. These guys are mostly running "one-man-band" operations. If you expect them to be able to answer all calls and VMs the same day, or even in a couple of days, especially in the middle of July - you're not being realistic. You need to have your boat serviced by the bigger marine repair shops, and be ready to wait to bring in your boat in like 3-6 weeks, and likely end up paying twice as much as Ryan will end up charging you. I hate to see folks feeling compelled to review someone's work poorly on Yelp, when they did not even experience the true quality of the service provided. I have found my new boat mechanic, and I'm stoked I got so lucky. read more

Great experience with this service! Ryan spent a lot of time working on my boat. You can trust that he will still charge you a very fair rate even if the maintenance or repair takes longer than it should. He could have told me I needed a new prop, but just filed and painted it. Ryan repaired my inboard Yanmar on my 37' yawl. He came to the dock and rowed out with me since the boat was at a mooring. He was prompt, courteous and fairly priced. He did an excellent job repairing. He had to return to the boat to finish the job and he rowed out on his own without my having to escort him. Honest and likable. Ryan is great. He is skilled, honest, hardworking, and fair. I have spent a lot of time and a lot of money using various marine mechanics around San Diego before I found Ryan. Finding a good marine mechanic here is San Diego is really hard. Some will pretend to be marine mechanics when they are really out of work auto mechanics. Some are shady and stretch out projects. Others want you to bring your boat to them and then rape you on charges. When I came across Ryan, it was a holiday weekend. He was able to meet me the next day morning at my boat, get my Mercruiser running, and saved my weekend. Ryan is honest and dependable. After working with him several times, I now trust him to go work on my boat even when I am not there. He is great at troubleshooting problems when I have no idea what is wrong. His prices are very fair. He is a skilled professional and deserves to be compensated as such but he never over charges or stretches out projects. Plus, he is usually pretty good with estimating his time on project so I have never questioned it when the job is complete. Ryan has worked on my boat at least 6 times over the last 2 years and has always done a great job. I will continue to call on him with any marine problems. read more

I found Ryan right here on yelp. I took a chance on a motor I knew nothing about on craigslist that had been sitting for a long time. He came at the time that we had arranged over the phone. After about 30 min of looking it over he let me know what was needed to get her running right and gave me the truth, instead of trying to milk me for more work. All were polite, informative messages explaining exactly what I needed done, where the boat is at, etc. Crickets... 0 response. He might be a good boat mechanic, but good luck getting a hold of him. Ryan was beyond wonderful! My husband and I are new to boating and purchased a used 1989 Larson with a Johnson 150 engine (outboard). 1st it was impossible finding someone who would agree to work on a 1989 Larson and 2nd when we did it was the only shop we could find with a 2 star rating with a 6 week waiting period....that is until we found Ryan at Dockside Mobile Marine Service. I spoke with him last week and we were schedule in today 07/30. He came out to Cherry Creek State Park and thoroughly went over everything with my husband. He was honest and his costs were extremely minimal in comparison to shop prices; and he comes out to the lake (WOW). When the time comes for us to rebuild our carburetor which Ryan didn't say was a must right now, we will without hesitation call him up for that repair, in addition to all future repairs needed. I've used Ryan for my 25' cabin cruiser maintenence and repairs. He is honest, competent and reliable. I've owned boats my whole life and this guy is the real deal.
