The food is satisfying enough. But today, Do was obviously dealing from the bottom of the deck. The satisfying taste that lunch left on the tongue spoiled quickly at payment time. After we handed over our cards, each in our five-person party then received non-itemized bills. Pens were not brought along because our tips had been added for us and there was apparently no need for us to authorize that. An automatic gratuity charge is silly for a party of just five. Do could work on quality if they want their customers to tip up to their expectation. Alternatively, Do could increase the menu prices (a practice not unfamiliar to this establishment). Instead, Do resorts to this slimy practice to pad out the bill because they do not trust their customers. read more

I was delighted to find that DO 's Asian Fusion of Korean, Thai and Chinese is truly delicious and carefully made. HOWEVUH. The first time I ordered a meal delivered, it took more than two hours to get to me. Tonight was my third order, and it was one dish, no sides, no drinks, no dessert ... and it took THREE hours to reach me, and was room-temperature, borderline cold. Dear DO, please look at how you are running your kitchen. I know combining sit-down and takeout orders is hectic, but come on. Great place!!! Be sure to read the front of the menu about how they incorporated imported Asian treasures. All wood blocks came from a palace's door. The bamboo you see is imported. I brought my parents expecting the Asian fusion to have a big chinese emphasis. My parents are not as adventurous as I am. I was in shock when I noticed it was heavy on the Korean. I love Korean but could my mom find something? Yes!!! She has said this is her favorite Asian spot she found in over 20 years. For lunch, we headed to Do: Asian Fusion Cuisine & Lounge for some Korean food. Because I get to have Korean food in NYC and LA pretty much every year, it gets me on this Korean BBQ kick. I've been working my way through some of the Korean spots in Bloomington when I get home, but I've yet to find one that nails it the way bigger city places do. I really liked the ambiance of Do. It was clean and kind of wooden-chic. Since it was a weekend, they only served the Dinner menu; I wish they'd serve the lunch menu on weekends too! We were given a salad (not my thing) and some miso soup to start. We both ordered Bulgogi as our main dish. I really liked the Bulgogi. I felt like it was marinated better than a lot of places, and the portion size was adequate. While the price was steeper than I'm used to for the portion (again, you get spoiled in LA/NYC) I would definitely eat here again when I'm downtown or near 4th Street. Dan enjoyed his meal too. The service was good. I noticed grill tables outside in their porch area, so I'm hoping that means they do some Korean BBQ out there in better weather. I think that would be great! read more

Do is one of my favorite 4th Street eateries and it's open late (such a plus). They say they are fusion, but it is really mostly just different Korean street foods - all of which are delicious. My favorite go to items are the jab chae (yam noodle and a tasty meat sauce), tteokbokki (rice cake w/ sweet gochuchang based sauce) and the kimchi fried rice (it's all in the name). Do also has a stellar atmosphere and ample outdoor seating. During the summer, I love having a late dinner on their deck with our dog. They also serve several different libations from domestic wines (Oliver) to sake and soju. I do not recommend the flavoured soju. It's really bad, but the other options are awesome! Do also adds new menu items regularly so don't be afraid to try whatever new item they are serving! read more

Our lunch was awesome! When walking up to this restaurant, I had my doubts. The curb appeal is not good at all, however, once you walk through the doors the decor is awesome. The interior is a modern/urban Asian style, and it looks fantastic inside. The food was excellent! Nice flavors all around. My friend ordered the Bento Box, which provided a nice variety of different dishes. I ordered the Bulgogi Beef, and it was phenomenal. This place really gives you a bang for your buck, with big portions and miso soup and salad included with your meal. It was a lot of food, but I cleaned my plate! This place could easily be 5 stars with a little bit of work. The need to do something about the curb appeal to make it look as good on the outside as it does inside. The staff was nice but could be a lot better versed in the cuisine they were serving. I had a feeling they didn't know all the dishes on the menu and were unfamiliar with some culinary components. I ordered an item for $11.99 plus a glass of water. Nothing extra. Because I was with 6 other people the server charged me $18. I asked why so much and the server said because there were so many people at the table they had to add gratuity. They added 40% to the bill for everyone at the table. This was not a simple mistake or misunderstanding. This was the restaurant taking advantage of a customer. You can't excuse this instance of ripping me off and I'm sure they think they can get away with it because the college students don't want to make a scene. read more

VerdicTL;DR: Probably the best Korean restaurant in Indiana. There's nothing "fusion" about it -- unless you're making a reference to North Korea and nuclear weaponry. I was introduced to Do Asian Fusion Cuisine when I first arrived in the state of Indiana. I was initially skeptical; I've never had a good experience with any Asian Fusion restaurant ever. Indeed, when we speak of "Asian Fusion" in this country I think we miss out on the fact that though all countries have borders, there has been so much intermixing and so much swapping of cultures and cuisines throughout Asia (especially East and Southeast Asia) that just about every cuisine is a fusion. And to my delight, Do isn't Asian Fusion at all in the way that we often understand Asian Fusion. Instead it's very competently executed Korean street food. And it's worth celebrating in its own right, as street food -- any street food -- is the ultimate in fusion cusine: highbrow meets lowbrow, culture meets culture, and whether you're a German enjoying Oktoberfest or a Korean enjoying a soju with side dishes in a pojangmacha, there are broad commonalities of experience that tie us together as human beings. Do takes me back to the streets of Seoul, where I grew up. There is so much here that remind me of the classic bunshikjum -- little holes-in-the-wall where snack foods (like ramen and tteokbokki) are served. Do does serve other foods that are more highbrow than that, but I've never had the desire to explore anywhere else on the menu. Korean BBQ places are a dime a dozen even here in Indiana after all -- but bunshikjum type street food remains a rarity. Their tteokbokki -- spicy rice cake -- is my favorite item on the menu, and it compares well to anything I've ever had here in the United States. As good, in fact, as most any tteokbokki I had growing up in Korea. I can almost close my eyes and be taken back in time to a much younger and much more innocent self. That's the wonderful thing about food -- it can take you back to occasions and places that are forever lost to the march of time. Indeed, we human beings are also ephemeral beings, here today and gone tomorrow. But there are things that endure -- and just because time marches on doesn't mean that we are lost. Indeed it may well be that we endure precisely *because* we constantly face erasure, our actions and thoughts made meaningful because someday we will only be memories. Remember who you are. Remember what you are. Remember that though you may feel adrift, you are never lost. Take nourishment, and move forward. You are better -- your fate is greater -- than the erasure that the world says is your due. Together we endure. read more

Do is a hidden gem on 4th street. I usually avoid restaurants labeled Asian Fusion as it seems they try a lot of cuisines but don't do anything well. Do isn't Fusion- it's Korean- and good. The menu is large and well marked with items that can be ordered as vegetarian. We started with complementary miso soup and salad and some delicious pork streamed dumplings. Our entrees included kimchi beef ribs, bibimbap, and jap chae with tofu. Servings were huge- none of us were able to finish. The jap chae was the winner of the night! Do is a great new Asian Fusion restaurant with tasty food, late night hours, and friendly service. The atmosphere is super cool with imported wood walls and a bamboo ceiling. The 'fusion' here is mostly Korean and Japanese. I have so far only had lunch here but the bang for your buck was amazing. Our friends had and enjoyed: Bulgogi, 2 different Korean bento boxes, and the Tori Katsu Curry. The boxes were a huge hit and I love my Tori Katsu but the curry was different than what I was familiar with (Indian or Thai curry) as a flour or starch was added as a thickener making it less curry-y and more gravy-y. But still all very good. I will for sure be going back! Other Details: 1) Parking - street or a nearby pay lot. 2) Handicap Accessible - many steps, if just a few steps are manageable then the outdoor seating would be an option, but this is in an old house and the main restaurant/restrooms have 2 sets of steps. 3) Credit Cards - Accepted. 4) Noise Level - low to average 5) Booze - beer and wine only. Room for Improvement: 1) Processed Foods - if you want to get more of the population of Bloomington to be fans, then loose the heavily processed foods. The best examples of this are the can corn in the salad and the side dish that is called 'sausages' but is cut up hot dogs. These are unappetizing and make the restaurant look cheap. This is a shame because the other food is tasty and looks lovingly prepared. 2) Restroom Water Temp - this is a newly added restroom and I am happy it is there but when you flush the toilet it causes the sink water to become the temperature of the sun! I was burned and it was so hot that steam was coming off of it (which I unfortunately did not notice until post-burn). Not only is that dangerous but if it is that hot then you know people aren't washing their hands. 3) Porch Color - it is a shame that the beautiful limestone porch was painted (limestone should never be painted), but as the deed had already happened before Do moved in, maybe at least paint it a color that isn't an uappitizing 'sick skin tone.' What they Do So Right: 1) Atmosphere - warm environment with imported wooden walls but still bright enough that you can still see your food. Lots of nice upgrades from the previous restaurant. 2) Outdoor Seating - they have taken a fair amount of outdoor seating and improved it with a covered section that contains Korean BBQ grill-in tables. 3) Hours - open from lunch to late night. 4) Clean - They put in a new restroom so you no longer have to walk into the kitchen area. Everything was clean and nice. 5) Menu Variety - lots of options including lunch specials and a special late night menu. 6) Vegetarian Friendly - thanks for marking which dishes can be made vegetarian for our veg friends. read more

Cool space, food is decent, not outrageously pricey. Service is ... Slow. And I don't mean in the food coming out. How? Glad you asked. 1. When asked how to pronounce something on the menu, the waitress replied, "I'm not Korean." Okay, you should still know how to say the items you are taking orders for. 2. When asked how many dumplings came in an order she said, "Ummmmm, like 7 or 8?". There were 6. Learn to count. 3. When the stove was brought for our hot pot, it was turned on, gas only, and left on the table. Pretty sure that's a huge safety hazard. The whole light-a-match-and-the-place-will-blow-up problem. 4: When we got our bill, it wasn't totaled. When asked to be totaled, it was added wrong as they "added in" an item they forgot. 5. While ordering the overall experience was like pulling teeth. I can't blame that she didn't speak English because she did. She just didn't know the menu, asked confusing questions, and had a hard time getting full sentences out. Staff isn't running on much brain power here. As you can see I'm not a mass reviewer, only when I'm really compelled to. I didn't read all the previous reviews but I'm surprised by anyone who didn't like the taste. I'm here for business and never thought I'd find such an awesome korean food selection. The menu is very expansive, especially for the size of the restaurant as it's not that big. I came for lunch with a colleague and we had the tangsooyuk and dolsot jaeyuk and both were amazing and flavorful and the portion was very generous. I've experienced plenty of homemade meals and restaurants and I was absolutely impressed with the taste here. Price wise, it was under $30 and noticed there are also plenty of lunch specials for under $10. I would definitely come back again if I'm ever in town and my colleague who's from Indy said he would as well! read more

I am very confused about this place. Fusion restaurant should combine the essence of different cuisine and bring it to the next level. This one seems to go for the opposite direction. I ordered a Korean Bulgogi and Soon tofu soup. The chief use a very chewy cut of beef typically found in Chinese dish. But usually the Chinese tenderizes the beef before cook. I hate to waste food, but could not torture myself to finish the dish. Soon tofu soup is very hard to mess up, but they did it with no beef stock and firm tofu. If you are going to do that, please take the word "soon" off your menu. read more

Do is a wonderful addition to the 4th street dining scene. Do offers delicious Korean food with a few Japanese items. The ambience is nice, but my only real complaint is that the place can get loud when it's crowded. There was a night I attended when a party of students + the K-Pop soundtrack were way too overbearing. But don't let this sway you. The food at Do seems more refined and delicate than the other Korean restaurants in town (some of which are delicious, mind you). I have ordered at least five different entrees off of the menu and they were all delicious with fresh ingredients. The Udon soups are wonderful, the Japchae is excellent, and the Karoke (sp? - fried potato) appetizer is awesome. My favorite dish so far is the Crispy Soy Chicken: it was two meals in one, and it was fried and flavored perfectly. Glad to see that someone is going beyond the basics and paying attention to the details. Some of the servers have noticed the frequency of my visits, and they are exceptionally hospitable and friendly. I won't say the food is bad, because it's not, it's fairly decent, at least the hot pot was. Granted it is pretty hard to mess up a hot pot given it's boiling broth and then throwing in a little bit of everything. It's the prices that give it the low star rating. When you charge $30+ for a hot pot that is mainly soup, noodles, maybe a handful of sliced beef...thats ridiculous. I don't care where the wood from the from door came from or if the bamboo is imported, if anything those drive up costs that are then imposed on the customer. What Do lacks in taste, it makes up in atmosphere. I stopped by for lunch and got a bento box lunch special with spicy chicken. It came with a decent assortment of side dishes - miso soup, potstickers, kimchi, a little side salad, and some hotdog side (not my favorite). The portions were a good size for a lunch special and the pricing wasn't too bad. My bill came out to about $10 which is very standard for a 4th Street restaurant. Our service was fast and prompt, so no complaints there. As far as taste goes, my bento box was only so-so. The sauce on the chicken was a deep orange and seemed promising, but under delivered in spice and flavor. The vegetables that came with it were a touch undercooked. Otherwise, the meat was nicely stir fried. The food seems to be more of a non-traditional take on Korean food, so don't expect the standard Korean BBQ experience here. The redeeming factor of Do is the atmosphere. It's a well decorated, trendy, and clean. I would make a repeat visit if nothing but that. read more

We had the bulgogi and the bibimbap to go with a few appetizers. Rude staffing. Our group sat down and waited over ten minutes to get service before we were rudely told to move because another group had arrived. She claimed that the staff made a mistake and we were wrongly seated, but we had been sitting for at least 10 minutes before the new group walked in. We moved with no problem and had waters served to us at the new location. We were chatting for another 10 minutes before the same waitress came. She rudely told us this wasn't the seat we were supposed to go to and told us to stand and wait until another table left. This wouldn't of been an issue if we hadn't been sitting there for ten minutes with no problem. The staff had even brought us all waters to the table we "were not supposed to sit at" with no complaint. I tried to professionally convey my disappointment to the waitress, to which she told me to "just leave if I had a problem." Which we did!
