FYI for all who have DMV appointments...though it's been somewhat newly organized be aware that even though you have an appointment, you will Not be allowed to check in for your appointment till 10mins prior to your appointment time. I looked back on my appointment check-in sheet sent to me via email and no where does it state that I cannot check in more than 10 mins prior to my time but since the employees at the dmv feel and act like untouchable gods, they refused to see me because I was 30mins early!! Now everyone knows you could spend your entire day at the dmv waiting around with or without an appointment so of course expecting long delays waiting in long lines, getting here early is defiantly a must, but if you're 5 mins late they'll refuse you service, even if it's because you've waited in line. They should appreciate the early arrivers it may open a time slot for someone who showed up late due to transportation issues or even health issues. My reasoning for being early was because I work from noon to at times 3am so being here cuts into sleep time, being here early is making sure I'm that much closer to getting out sooner so that maybe I can catch a quick nap before work! So the untouchable gods at the DMV may have semi organized the lines with red rugs but they need to organize their timing and also their attitude. The way they address and speak to you, you'd think they work at a prison and we're all their low life inmates. Just left the DMV as I had to transfer NJ drivers license to CA drivers license. Got here at 800am as a non-appointment and the line was out the door, however a representative addressed our questions while we were waiting in line to confirm we had all correct docs. It took about 30 min to get a number, and Diane was super friendly and helpful with my transaction. I then waited 5 min to take my picture, and then took the written test (it's a requirement for a CA DL) which is 36 questions. You have three chances, If you fail the first time you are allowed to take to take again within the same day; I passed on my second try :). I was directed to a line to get my interim CA DL and that took about 7 min. They were nice enough to give back my NJ DL; of course with a punched hole in it to make it inactive. Overall the process was efficient and I was there for 1 hr and 43 min. The key to a smooth process is 1) The golden rule- treat others how you'd want to be treated; with respect. 2) Be prepared - Do your research online and have docs and identification requirements ready! read more

I got here around 10:30 because for some odd reason, I misplaced ny driver's license. I was going to make an appointment, but the next appointment was for July 17th so I decided to do a walk in. Apparently, they were crazy busy on this day. My number did not get called up until 2:30. There were 31 people in fromt of me. I had to go to three different sections just to get my license replaced! During this time, I walked across the street to get a Redbull, drank my Redbull, came back. Then, I went to CVS to see if they had portable chargers since my phone was dying. After that, I went home, changed for work and came back and I was still 7 people behind. One thing I will say is that the workers here are way nicer than the ones at the Fresno DMV. Since my license was expiring this year, one of the workers offered to renew it instead of duplicating it and I appreciated that and thank goodness, I made it in time for work. read more

I wrote a lot. To sum it all up: Arrival=1:42pm Departure=3:46pm Ridiculous. Inefficient. Our TaxDollars at work, right!? Was done at I just don't understand. The DMV is built for efficiency. I mean you check in at a window, they streamline you from there based on your need, they make sure you have all the correct paperwork...the guy in front of me even was able to check if his smog was accepted at that first window! The comes the really fun part! You get a magical ticket that as you wait and hear all the numbers passing you by really inspires you to yell out BINGO when they finally call your number. It should be fast. It shouldn't take more than ten minutes a person. Plus they have lots of Windows to serve people at. But it's not. Zootopia was NOT exaggerating with its whole sloth montage. I just don't understand why it takes sooooo long! We have computers now, they have a system in place, so what gives? Every time someone leaves their desk they couldn't walk any slower! If I could give less than one star to Clovis DMV I would. . Got here before 2pm (my # ticket says 2pm, but I hadn't received it until after I waited in the first general line.) I had the "lucky" ticket of B031. When I arrived B023 was up on the board. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the numbers and I feel as if I got into another line for the purpose of my visit things would be so much faster! At least I would be more aware of how long I need to wait as the line moves. All I can do is sit and wait. Hoping the B's start to move. They keep calling all the Gs and Fs ... Some A's and some H's but no Bs!?! The lady where most of the Bs seem to be called to keeps disappearing after each person for a break or something (she has her purse in tow half the time ... She also sees people with G numbers too). At the rate they are going it will be dark before I leave just like zootopia! They just called B027 and I have never heard such screams of delight from people outside of a Bingo game or the lottery!! I overheard his say he was waiting since a "quarter til". A person asked the question I was thinking "a quarter to two?"... Nope. They had got here at 1215 waited twenty minutes or so in the first line and then got their number at nearly 1245! and now the "Fs" have become very popular again. Woohoo. Finally got my number called and got to the counter. Dmv people are not as friendly as the sloths on zootopia. Not by a long shot. Had to tell her twice what I needed. Had to walk far a bit to get to their atm thing to pay my $15 fee. She handed me my form and I awaited further instructions or a thank you or anything to indicate that I was done with our interaction... Finally figured it out when she said "okay. That's it." But it wasn't a yay you are done. More like ok move so I can help someone else. Note: you may ask "why didn't you make an appointment?" You see, I tried. Their mobile website link for that location (perhaps all their locations) kept resulting in a 404 error. I emailed them and their response was to call the office if I couldn't figure it out on my end because it was working fine for them. Ummm... I build websites. I know that usually there is a link issue if there is a 404 error... So disappointed. The DMV has so much potential, they could do so much better. read more

At the end of October I made an online appointment to change my name on my drivers license. I was given an appointment for December 7, 2018. (which was the first available appointment) When that day finally came I still had to wait almost 2 hours. After going through all the steps, them punching a hole in my current drivers license I finally took my picture and was sent on my way with the thoughts that I would receive my license in the mail within a week to ten days according to the gentleman who took my picture. As of today I had yet to receive my license so I went back to the DMV to inquire what was going on only to be told that I never took my picture on December 7th and they were waiting for me to come back and have my picture taken so they could issue my license. WHAT?!?!!! Why would I spend 2 hours at the DMV to walk out without taking a picture?!!! I had to take another picture today (By the same guy who took my picture a month ago) Because of their lack of responsibility I have been denied a job because the drivers license I have is considered invalid because it has a hole punched in it. I've been denied purchasing alcohol because my drivers license is invalid, I couldn't even make any changes to my cell phone account because the hole in my license makes my ID invalid. The paper one they issued is not considered a valid form of ID. Now I have to wait another 2 weeks before I can attempt to do pretty much anything. read more

This is the cleanest dmv I have ever been to... However I have had the worst service of any dmv I have ever been to. The line wait time is consistently outrageous. I have waited over an hour and a half just to get a number on many occasions. The last time that I came to this dmv the person who helped me had a nervous breakdown and started crying to me about her manager and how this and that wasn't going right. All I needed was to get a new license instead I had to console the worker while we waited for someone only slightly more competent to come and help me. I could probably drive to a dmv in los banos and back in the amount of time it takes to get through this line. Never come to this dmv. One star is generous read more

I had to renew my license this year. I received a notice last moth saying that I had until my birthday to renew it. I waited too long and tried to make an appointment. The earliest time was March 20th! That was just not going to work for me. So I decided I had to tough it out. I arrived at the DMV about 2:00 pm. I registered and figured out what I needed to do. (Ask a lot of questions.). The first step was to register. There are now computers you use to do this. Of course I needed help several times but eventually I succeeded. The staff was so helpful. Next I was told that's I had to wait for my number to be called. Three hours later I finally walked to the counter and asked if my number had been called already. The woman was so helpful. She checked and said I had missed my call by about 50 numbers! She said she saw me waiting but said she thought they had not called my number. She felt bad and helped me to schedule an appointment the next day, gave me the vision test, took my new picture, took my money ($36) for the license and basically did everything except the written test. They stop giving the test at 4:30. No exceptions. It was wonderful! So I had to go back the next day (Saturday) to take the test on the computer. Because I had an appointment I went to the head of the line. It was wonderful. I passed! My suggestion is that you make your appointment early. You can rely on a very helpful and supportive staff. When was the last time you had to stand in line at the DMV? Well I have had to twice in the last month. I am writing because both of my experiences were good. That needs to be said. The staff is gracious and have gone above the call of duty to help me with my DMV tasks. I will not say what it was that each person did, but I will say there are more than a few employees with their Angel's wings on at this DMV. Thank you for all you do because it is a stressful event waiting in line at the DMV, just to get to a friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful employee after the wait. I read alot of the reviews here before my Real ID/License Renewal yesterday. I had an appt. I will say I was in and out within 25 minutes. While the customer service was efficient, it wasn't pleasant. I went to 4 stations to complete my transaction. The first receptionist/worker was loud, verbally confrontational and down right intimidating. During our interaction, the security guard moved in closer making me feel like there was something going wrong in our exchange. I felt confused, uncomfortable and wanting to get out of there as fast as possible. I truly have compassion for those who work in this environment as it doesn't appear to be a pleasant job. A little compassion going toward the customers could make the experience a bit better. read more

Well.... It's the department for motor vehicles... How great can this review really get? First off the lines and wait time are painfully long. If you do not have an appointment expect a long wait, 2 hours or more. As far as customer service it's really just luck of the draw. Some agents are friendly, others are the most sinfully boring person to walk the planet. Helpful hint.... Best experience I've had in years. I made an appointment on website a month ago to renew CADL & get Real ID. Parking was easy and plenty of parking. I was seen quickly in pre-screening and waited 5 min before being processed by another lady. The processing lady even expedited the presses by taking my picture her self so I didn't have to wait in another line. I was only there for less than 20 minutes. I've been to this office many times. All different times of day, with and without an appointment. I learned most recently that they won't do a vehicle verification "after it is dark outside", even if it gets dark before closing time and they have a lighted covered area where they have you drive the car to verify it anyway. Ridiculous. Pro Tip: DMV employees can be AMAZINGLY efficient with nearly any request, the nearer it gets to closing time. At 4:55pm, you can be in and out in 20 minutes or less-- Guaranteed. read more

The worst DMV office in the state of CA. I went and saw a great individual at the Olive branch and she was very helpful with registering the truck I bought out of state. I had 2 items to complete before I could get my plates and I was in Clovis so I stopped by. The lady looked at my paper work and said we won't accept this and neither will Sacramento. I did wait on line because I didn't make an appointment. And it did take a long time. But that is just the way it is in most DMV's, right? (Except for Napa. Napa is the happiest DMV in the world with very little wait, wineries and outlet stores nearby.) Service was provided with courtesy and professionalism. We had an appointment at 920 am for a driving test. By 1045, we still hadn't been seen. At 11, my son finally got to take the test by the rudest woman I have encountered in years. Be warned, if you take you're driving test from C. SALAZAR, you are likely to be treated with the utmost disrespect. She cut me off while I was speaking to her and disregarded what I was saying. Clearly she needs to be reprimanded and given a course in appropriate customer service. Additionally, she was very inappropriately dressed in an extremely short dress that was NOT ok to be wearing while giving driving tests, especially to teens. I will be reporting her. read more

I tried being extremely respectful and polite, but all three of the employees I spoke to made extremely rude remarks. If you are in the Fresno/Clovis area, please go to the Olive Ave DMV instead. It is your typical DMV. Waited in line for 5 hours and was at the front of the line at 4:00 pm and they stopped letting people in. The girl taking temperatures told me to come early next time. It's as good as it's gonna get. I knocked off one star because some of the employees are a little short with you. Understandably so, they have to deal with a lot of unsavory people. However, it's the job they choose to do so have a better attitude. Also, the counter is situated right as you walk through the doors and you have people lined out the main entrance waiting. She has restored my hope in the humanity that is DMV Workers and come to think of it, the front counter girl was very friendly and professional too (Went back and discovered her name is Sue). So not only could I tell right off the bat that Jordan was looking forward to determining how she could help me, she was quick, professional... Even though I DIDN'T SMOG MY CAR OR BRING MY CO-REGISTRAR WITH ME, she was still patient in explaining my options for returning with the requirements and didn't make me feel like an idiot who just wasted my time. This location is clean, has a friendly staff, and you don't feel like you need to keep your tazer and pepper spray at the ready.
