I live in Key Largo & always buy my swimwear here. They have a great selection of Roxy, Billabong and O'Neil. I thought maybe I was too late this year - it's spring break- to get a suit, but I had good luck. I had to get someone to unlock the dressing rooms and they were cheerful & chatted me up as a local. The suit I finally decided upon was a Billabong & it was on sale! While not as cheap as an outlet, these are also higher quality swimsuits that will last. I am always happy to stop in here for the swimsuits & beach wear. read more

Fins and snorkels and wetsuits, oh my! A superstore of diving equipment and plenty of clothing and casual wear options as well. We were assisted by a super pleasant, super helpful sales person by the name of Kerry. He made sure we found what we needed (nice selection of their own brand with suits and a huge selection of brand-name masks and fins). Prices are super reasonable and if you join their no cost club you will receive discount coupons and gift cards (after reaching certain spend limits; in the mail for you to use at their store or online). Kerry noticed that I was wearing glasses and walked me straight over to the scuba mask section that now includes options for on the spot, pseudo prescription adjustments. Lens inserts are available for individual left and right eyes that can be prepared in as little as 20 minutes for $125 (quite a deal compared to online prescription lens masks). We found ourselves back at the same spot the same day Some dry clothing as the weather had changed dramatically! We ran out of the store and no time and got exactly what we needed. I am from the Pacific NW and although we have dive shops, they are usually very little with small inventory and high prices. This store was like walking into a dream. They had soooooo many items, at decent prices, and a wide variety and selection. I loved the brands they carried and I found several items to purchase. The staff was all very helpful and seemed to enjoy their jobs and helping. The hours were fantastic and the store was clean and organized well. Easy parking too. The store loses a star because I am a female diver and wanted a diving t-shirt from the Keys to take back home. They had 30 mens diving shirts (all big sizes with a boxy mens fit). They had two womens shirts with dive designs on them but had such small inventory they only had one size, which did not fit me. I don't understand why this is such a predominant issue everywhere I dive. This is the year 2024, women dive too. Can stores please represent women too? I am not asking for anything special. Just put the same print on womens shirts or make more mens shirts in small sizes so we can at least have the option to buy something. read more

A large clean store. Most of the staff were friendly and helpful. Large selection of dive gear and apparel. When I was looking at the regulators in a glass display case, and pointing out one to a fellow shopper, one of the staff came over and asked me not to touch the glass. I said i was looking at the items and touching the glass is standard practice for most customers. He said he just cleaned it and didnt want to clesn it again... I found this to be very rude, and enough to justify never returning. Prices were not great compared to online, but having the large selection near some amazing diving is helpful. read more

Was in Key Largo and decided to look for a new regulator. This store is huge, largest dive shop I have ever seen. I ended up talking with Jonah G. He could not have been more helpful even though I made it clear that I was visiting and I would not be making the purchase that day. I found him to be very knowledgeable and not pushy. He knew the mechanics of the different brands and could clearly articulate the pros and cons of each. At one point he could not answer a question and contacted someone else in the store to help. Overall, the selection of brands was the most diverse I have ever seen in one spot. In addition to regulators, I spent some time looking at fins and BC's. Again, I was impressed with the diversity and quantity of product. I will be back. I find it significant that someone else has commented on Jonah in a recent Yelp Review. We visited three dive stores but only Divers Direct had what we needed most - someone who was knowledgeable and helpful. Randy greeted us as we entered and pointed us in the right direction. We entered DIvers Direct expecting a cave of wonder -- after all its reputation is strong and its advertising enticing - what we got was a big box store or a buyer's club warehouse with spectacularly unenthusiastic employees on a bad, bad day. We were, to quote Jimmy Buffet in "Pascagoula Run," "looking to spend," celebrating two newly certified Open Water divers who had joined the sport and the other divers in the family. We were excited to visit. We weren't all rookies - one of us has worked dive retail in Hawaii, some of us are experienced to very experienced divers, reasonably knowledgeable and best of all, willing to ask questions and learn about what we didn't know - in short all the ingredients were in place for a lovely visit and a big sale to Divers Direct. What we got was Wal-Mart at its worst - except that Wal-Mart doesn't portray itself as anything other than what it is. Some discoveries included there was more beachwear in the store than dive gear. The actual gear choices ranged from the extremely overpriced to cut-rate prices for bottom shelf kit. The staff was young (and we understand that youth has to start somewhere) and less than knowledgeable - on eveything from the techinical difference between fins to the pros and cons of thick versus thin sole dive boots. Only one employee was ready to admit ignorance and ask another for help. Alas, this resulted in equal ignorance. We were also surprised that when looking at high end fins - (we are generally fans of Apex RK IIIs) we were told spring straps could be added for extra money, but doing so would take more than a day. (Which continues to make no sense.) The display of regulators and BCDs was surprisingly small - with no one to suggest which would be best for our new divers - and why. At the check out - we bought one pair of boots, which were returned the next day after a little online research raised serious questions about their durability in certain shore dive conditions, such as found in Bonaire - we also asked the check-out employee about the reef safe sun screen carried by the store and why that brand was chosen - there was only one selection. We are committed to responsible, ecologically positive, diving and the question was sincere. The check-out person didn't know and was sure no one else would either, saying in effect "I just sell it." It's important to note we didn't use the store's repair, education or dive services. These might be excellent all the time and most reviews seem to indicate a high level of satisfaction with this part of Divers Direct's operations. We also arrived later in the day than early - having saved this visit as a "destination bonus." It was still more than an hour before closing so it wasn't as if we were the dread customer that arrives at the "It's just ten more minutes" mark. But there was a distinct vibe of "I sure hope you folks don't mess up my getting out of here.." There is an understandable tendency to look at a review like this and conclude *we* must have soured the experience. Some guests do exactly that. That wasn't us. We were fans walking in and disappointed walking out. If I had to put a finger on what soured us, it wasn't the selection - any store can not have what a particular person or group is looking for and still provide a positive experience. It wasn't just the quality of selection and the pricing - everyone has supply chain issues and a store on the main drag in Key Largo is unlikely to to provide the best price possible when it comes to gear - we accepted that and would have traded the associated lengthy online hunt for best deal in the world for immediate satisfaction. Nope, it all boiled down to customer service and employee attitude. Young employees more interested in talking with themselves, nor very knowledgeable about the gear they were selling, do not invoke a positive reaction. Remember, we were serious about buying. Staff who lack the realization that time pleasantly spent, even without a sale, builds a positive reputation and positive recommendations, do not advance the interests of the manager, the owner or the business. I am also sure no one in management trained these employees to project the attitudes they did and provide a low quality of service - after all who in leadership and management wants to watch two sets of regulators, BCDs, boots, fins, masks, snorkels and potential accessories go unpurchased? It might have been we didn't look like serious buyers. Folks in shorts, sandals and dive shirts from distant lands and a battered hat, may not look all that well-heeled or serious. But shorts have pockets with wallets and wallets have credit cards. This was also a one-time experience for us. Hopefully your visit will be more positive and productive. read more

Great store, a must-stop for me with every Keys trip. This store is large with huge selection and the prices are competitive if not the best, yet the store peeps are as friendly and helpful as any I've found in a small independent store. I prefer to support small independents but when I need to get something today no fooling or I need several things from different brands... shopping here is always a pleasure. We stopped in on our way out of the Keys to check out some new dive gear. I was in need of a new first stage and my wife is a new diver who's in the process of acquiring her gear. JL was extremely helpful and informed us of some outstanding deals on regulators! I ended up with an Atomic B2 and my wife with an Aqualung legend and an Atomic SS1 Sade second for incredible prices! He even set up the DIN to yoke adapter for my reg and attached all the necessary hoses and shipped them home for us so they wouldn't be a hassle on the plane ride back! Dive gear heaven! If you're diving in Key Largo and you need some gear, this is a great option. It's a huge dive warehouse full of beachy clothes and dive gear. They have the big brands for clothes (Yeti, Pelagic, 4Ocean, Skipper, Roxy, Billabong, etc.) and dive gear. Their prices aren't cheap. They do have a repairs counter where any of the reps can help you with changing your regulators over, mouthpiece, etc. They also can help with BCD issues. If you're a scuba diver, and you're heading for the Florida Keys, then you need to plan a stop at Divers Direct in Key Largo. The shop has changed locations over the years from it's pre-Hurricane Andrew location in Homestead, FL, to a spot just as you turned onto Key Largo, to it's newest location south of John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park along the Overseas Highway. This new location is huge, and it is officially the largest dive shop in Key Largo. This is a great spot to stop and stock up on snorkeling and scuba gear, as well as t-shirts, bathing suits, sunglasses, and flip flops to round out your vacation purchases. The dive gear is generally last year's models, so the prices are quite low compared to what you might see in your shop back home. A lot of divers will stop in to pick up extra masks, fin straps, and gadgets to fill their dive bags with replacement parts. Newer divers will find tremendous discounts on buoyancy compensators, regulators, dive computers, and underwater photographic equipment. You can buy Brownie's Third Lung air compressors with hookah rigs for lobstering or cleaning the undersides of your boat, along with rash guards & wetsuits, and underwater scooters. A lot of divers will take the classroom and pool portions of their certification classes back home in the Great White North, but then stop at a place like Divers Direct to complete their check-out dives in the warmer waters of the Keys. Referral certifications are very common, and the shop offers all types of training programs for novices through advanced divers. If this is your first trip to the Keys, I highly recommend that you spend some time talking to their staff about dive sites and dive operators throughout the Keys. This is especially true if you're planning to dive for lobster, or trying your hand at spearfishing. The shop can also help arrange dive travel trips for your clubs back home to various exotic locations. If any of your scuba equipment is damaged, or just needs it's annual tune-up, then the staff at Divers Direct can help with the servicing, and if necessary they can rent you some loaner equipment while you're waiting on the repairs. They extend their services providing scuba diving classes, trips for snorkeling, spearfishing and diving. They facility is large and sometimes you can get a good deal on BC's and gear like mask,fins and snorkels. Most of the employees are divers or instructors, so you don't get a random person giving you assistance but someone experienced and highly knowledgeable. Everyone is great here equally. The level of service here is phenomenal. Came in twice (so far) on a trip to the keys. Knowing next to nothing about snorkeling and equipment Alyssa and Krissy and the night manager we're all SUPER knowledgeable and helpful. They each had little tidbits of knowledge and experience that helped us make informed decisions about our purchases. No pressure to buy and even though I was a total novice they didn't make me feel any sort of way about my lack of experience. In fact, they made me feel comfortable with my inexperience commenting that they too shared similar experiences when they were first starting. I wish all retail experiences were like this. I had two separate great experiences in one day at Diver Direct in Key Largo. First I went in to see about the quick connect on my regulator. Sonny graciously helped me figure out that when I recently had my regs serviced, they removed the quick connect and replaced it with one that doesn't easily come apart. He checked to see if they had a quick connect in stock, but they did not. He was very helpful though. He also helped me look for a new bag for my regs. Later in the day I returned to the store with a broken fin. The top of the fin split in a straight line as if it had been cut. I first showed it to David and he directed me to Randy who offered to replace the fins with a new pair of the exact fins. I didn't buy the fins from there and I had had them for awhile. It definitely looked like a manufacturer defect and they replaced them with ease when I wasn't even expecting them to do so. Excellent customer service! How does this place not have five stars? They carry a very broad product line with lots of selection from sports apparel to dive equipment. Staff there was amazing. Very helpful very accommodating. They have their own brand of scuba gear and accessories that seems to be pretty decent and very competitively priced. If you're going scuba diving you need some gear I will check here before I go anywhere else. They probably have it more and better prices. I will be back! read more

After not finding the specific items we were looking for at a few dive shops and extended shipping times we went to Diver's Direct. Captain Ron (aka Sonny) :-) helped us to select the gear that fit our budget and needs. He didn't push high-end expensive items on us and listened to what we wanted and offered guidance. He took the time to walk us through the care of our equipment and did a safety check of the entire set-up. He was very personable and extremely knowledgeable! I can only speak about my experience at the Key Largo store.... I have to admit I was surprised at some of the negative comments. I have been shopping at Divers Direct for about two and half years and I love the store. The service has always been first rate and no high pressure sales. The selection is fantastic. I bought a mask recently and just couldn't get a decent seal. I took the mask back and not only did I get an exchange without any problem, but was assisted by the director of the scuba training program. When I asked his advice on new fins, two different brands were suggested and there was no push for the more expensive pair. (Love love love the fins!) When I read a comment that the store was overpriced, I checked Leisurepro for their price on the same fins. I paid $10 less. I've purchased Evo boots and dive skins and the quality is great as long as you keep them out of reach of dogs that like to chew. There are times when the store is so busy that customer service can suffer... mini lobster season comes to mind... but that usually results in longer wait times; people get inpatient. Great selection, great staff, great dive instruction (check out their Emocean program) and a rewards program. read more

This is basically the Walmart of diving as far as dive shops go. I've known them mostly through their online retail site, and even made some purchases from it too. So it was kind of exciting to visit the brick and mortar store itself. First off it's spacious inside. I've never seen such a large aggregation of diving gear before, all the brands and items were there. Section for dive-related shirts and tees, another section for GoPro and underwater camera equipment. The staff seemed to mind their own business, I never got approached by anyone but the people at the cashiers seem to all be divers and have had plenty experience with gear and diving in general. The prices were pretty high, I could definitely find cheaper stores to get the items they had here. However you can't beat the wide selection of dive gear they have here, which was a plus. read more

Went to fill our dive tanks, walked in at 8:20pm, no tanks were being filled at the time. Ivan was working in the dive section and when asked if he would fill our tanks, he laughed and said no, then proceeded to be on his phone while lounging on the desk, starring at the people in the store, while we finished getting the things we needed. When we asked the people at the check out counter what time tanks stopped being filled, they said if we brought them in by 8:20pm we would be fine.... As a scuba instructor I felt dirty walking into this place. I am always telling my students to support your local dive shop. But I have to admit that I was curious as to what the "Costco of scuba" had in their store. To tell you the truth I wasn't that blown away. Yeah, they have a lot of gear in stock, but their prices aren't all that. Since I already own a full set of gear (and then some) it wasn't like I was looking to purchase much. The staff wasn't particularly helpful. They weren't rude or anything, but they weren't particularly invested in helping my group find anything either. I'm guessing that at least 2 people from my group didn't buy anything because the staff didn't help them find what they were looking for. I'd still tell you to support your local dive shop, but if you're down in Key Largo and you need a clip or something then sure...stop on by. read more
