Our tour on August 2, 2025 with Sundiver Snorkel Tours was incredible! Captain Joe and mates (Auna and Hope) provided the best experience for myself (an experienced snorkeler) and my 25-year-old son (a newbie). I have been on other snorkel tours before, and Sundiver with this crew is the best. They attended well to passengers (approximately 30 of us) and took the time to explain the hows and whys to my son. The conditions were optimal, the underwater snorkeling adventure was breathtaking (my son is now all about snorkeling and because the experience was so amazing, we are going to try diving next). When we asked Captain Joe some questions at the end of the tour, he spent quality time explaining to my son how it is living and working in Key Largo and also about the available diving internships in the area. The ocean water was a very clear, pristine blue. We are very glad we chose the Christ of the Abyss tour - it was amazing - see pictures below. My wife found this place online when searching for a snorkeling location. We pre-booked (including wetsuits) online. Note that you have to register at one location on the main road and then drive to another location where you actually board the boat. We showed up at the specified time and had plenty of time but it's something to be aware of. We brought our own snorkels, and I had my own mask, but my wife noticed when we got there that hers had shattered. Fortunately they had ones to borrow (you have to supply your own snorkel). I'm a big guy (6'2" and 300 lbs). I can't imagine getting a wetsuit that's comfortable (or flattering) but they at least had one that fit (with my wife helping me pull it over my shoulders). They also had flippers for any size. Boat ride was about 30 minutes. Shortly after getting in the water I had to get out because I was having too many issues with my personal mask fogging up. The guide gave me some tips and some soap and I was right back in the water with no issues the rest of the dive. Mostly we saw coral, sea grasses and a handful of different types of fish. I did happen to see a +3' green moray eel. I tried to grab a photo of it, but by the time I got my camera out and looked back down it was gone. When I got out, I was mentioning it to my wife who totally missed it and the guide overheard me. He said that they are nocturnal and rare to see but are confused sometimes on cloudy days like we had and come out. read more

This tour was incredible, and I had a fantastic experience. The mate and captain were very kind and informed all of the boat's passengers. Despite the slightly choppy thirty-minute voyage out to the reef, none of the passengers experienced sea sickness. The water was breathtaking and they are quite cautious of the reef and won't allow you to carry spray sunscreen because it damages the reef. This is understandable given that people were still doing things in the water that they were instructed not to do. Although I wish I could have seen more fish, the nation's coral reefs are fading. All in all, I had a terrific experience and will most certainly be back. read more

I feel 50/50 on this. The snorkeling was a pretty good experience and specially for the price point, however some of the staff seemed like they hated their job. The lady at the check in window location where you wait to get on the boat just came off very rude and was very short with people when asking questions. The boat crew was mostly great but again the woman who was on the boat didn't have the best personality either but the two guys were super nice and friendly. Overall they were helpful and patient with the kids onboard and helping out those who had some issues with mask fogging or just general questions. Maybe the two ladies were both having a bad day, who knows but for the price point I'd be willing to try them again. read more

If you are in Key Largo and looking for a Snorkel tour I highly recommend Sundiver snorkel tour. The captain and mates on the boat were all extremely friendly and very knowledgeable of the area. We did two excursions with this company, the Christ of the abyss morning snorkel tour and also the sunset snorkel tour. The Christ of the abyss tour it was amazing, you really were able to see a number of animals and also the statue very clearly. The sunset snorkel tour was OK the snorkeling was decent but the boat right back was a little before sunset so you don't really get that ambiance. The one downside, which isn't the companies fault, was the water was extremely choppy both tours we did and a number of people got sea sick. If you have young children with you I recommend keeping them close by! read more

This is a well run shop and the staff is great. I would give 5 stars from an operational standpoint. HOWEVER, the quality of the reefs we saw was only 1 star (we went to Grecian reef). It was almost all bleached out and void of color. I get that this is not the fault of this company and they are just trying to make a living in a less than ideal sitaution. But the colors of the foral, the fish and other ocean wildlife was a huge difference from a few years ago when I went to snorkeling in the Keys. Not very many fish or variety of them left. I'm surprised few of the other reviews mention this. It was absolutely apparent to me and really affected the quality of the experience. read more

This was our first time snorkeling and we had a blast. We are so glad that we chose Sundiver tours. The crew is so friendly and helpful through the process. They ask that you check in an hour before departure. Note that the office where you check in is not where you board the boat. You check in and then drive to the hotel where the boat is docked. Don't worry, it is only about 2-3 miles away and you have plenty of time. Check in was easy and we purchased some snorkels as we did not have our own. They do not provide snorkels but do provide everything else. Once we got to the dock the final check in was quick and the staff was so friendly. It takes about 20-30 minutes to get to the reef and you have a little over an hour to snorkel. The water was fantastic on our trip. The crew provides safety and instruction tips on the way out and hands out the snorkeling vests, fins and masks. They provide tips to help such as inflating the vest a little bit and using a noodle to take out some of the work. I did both and highly recommend it. You have a little swim over to the reef. Once back on the boat we had some good conversation with the crew and learned where they were from and even got good tips for dinner. If you are looking to snorkel in Key Largo I definitely recommend Sundiver. They were great! read more

Awesome snorkel tour company in Key Largo, Florida. They offer several snorkel tours; morning, afternoon, later afternoon, and sunset. They have a tour that takes you to the Chris Statute. However, it is onlt visible in good weather conditions. They also have a shallow reef tour which lasts 2.5 hours. The prices are similar to other tours in the area. Staff was super friendly and everything was very clean. All wet suits, goggles, and flippers are disenfected. read more

We really suggest buyers be careful as they don't give warnings when it isn't ideal conditions. Our kids are 6 and 8 and this was their first time. When we checked in, the person ahead of us had a child who was scared and was reassured by the clerk that it would be fine. The water was way too choppy and not suitable for younger swimmers doing it for the first time. The kids lasted a brief time in the water and none of us even got to see a single fish. It created a negative experience for them and they never go again. It would have nice to know ahead of time that it wasn't ideal conditions. We were one of 3 families on the tour with younger kids - all of which had to come out early and had similar experiences. While the staff are nice (particularly the crew on the boat), as we were paying $300, we thought we should provide Sundiver with this feedback. We reached out to Sundiver on 5 occasions via phone and email and were told a manager would get back to us and never received a response. read more

We had a good time trying snorkeling for the first time. There was 6+ of us and they took time to explain and made sure we were ready from start to finish. Gave a plenty of cautions and tips about snorkeling and what to watch out for. Unfortunately, our trip was cut short due to medical emergency. They gave us free drinks while we waited. They were very helpful and issued us a partial refund. Other people on the boat went back to snorkeling afterwards too. They were very accommodating in the face of emergency. I enjoyed snorkeling through Sundiver! They took us to a shallow reef called White ...something on a beautiful day. The crew was nice and made me feel comfortable since I was nervous. I would grab the noodle. The reef itself was nice, we saw nice colored fish and some barracuda. Goggles, flippers and vests were disinfected. I find it rather dumb that we had to go to some shop first to check in and then drive somewhere else to actually check in again to then wait for the boat. read more

We went snorkeling on 2 consecutive days with Sundiver. From start to finish, an efficient and pleasant experience! You check in at one place and sign waivers (and buy a snorkel if needed), then they give you VERY clear directions to get to where the boat is docked (just a couple of miles away). This system makes sense, as their shop is on the main drag, and with its bright colors can attract potential customers, whereas the actual boat dock has limited space and only those waiting for the next tour end up there. The safety briefings, the equipment, and the crew were all wonderful. They had anti-fog for the masks, and their flippers were so comfortable I didn't even know I had them on. Once in the water, we were allowed to swim at will, which we enjoyed much better than being led around by the nose. The crew is watchful but not intrusive. The cold sodas ($1 each) available are very helpful, to wash that saltwater taste (or queasiness) away. (They also have free ice water). I must mention that I have very limited mobility, although I am an excellent swimmer. The crew were very helpful & patient in assisting me into/out of the water, and onto/off of the ship. read more

They treat you like a little baby just learning to swim, you have no option but to wear those dumb inflatable life vests and they don't tell you until you are on your way to the reef. Staff has an attitude about everything. Horrible parking situation. Boat sucks. Waste of money. My friends and I did this as a day trip from Miami over the weekend. We had so much fun and it was a great experience overall! We took the first morning tour out at 9am to see Christ of the Abyss which is a statue at the bottom of the ocean. We were lucky to have great weather because the visibility was super clear and we got an awesome view of the corals and the statue. We saw fish, turtles and someone on our tour said they even saw a stingray. The boat took off at 9am and the ride out to our destination was around 30 minutes, which ended up being very enjoyable. There is unlimited and *complimentary* ice cold water on board during the whole tour and you can purchase soda for a dollar at any time. Once we arrived by the statue, we got around an hour and a half in that area, which was more than enough time to explore and really enjoy. Then the ride back was another 30 minutes. The snorkel gear is sanitized before every use, but if you're uncomfortable using that they offer brand new gear for purchase ($10) at the store before taking off. We had a really great time and I plan on taking more friends and my family to check out the statue in the near future. Side note, only the morning (9am) tour goes out to see the statue. So if you're looking to see it, make sure you book the 9am slot! read more

I took snorkeling sunset cruise, but do not expect to see the actual sunset, it's just a name to attract people. The captain was very rude and angry. He was obsessed that someone might be stepping or touching the reef even if it's not and he yelled at people from the boat while we were snorkeling. And if you reply you didn't touch the reef and it's way too deep to reach, he yells even more - "Don't argue with me!" The girl who assisted on the ship was a combination of being rude and sarcastic. Just before I went to the water I asked her if are sharks out there? Her cold reply with careless look was - "They live here, I'm not gonna lie to you"...This reply left me puzzled and I did't know what to expect, being bitten, eaten or who knows...but honestly I expected some basic assurance from the crew, like for example: "Don't worry, it's highly unlikely!" or "Don't worry, it never happened before" or "Don't worry, we are watching you guys". Weird crew...I was scared and my experience was ruined. And for some reason this snorkeling company makes you go to two different locations before departure. You drive to the first place just to sign one page paper and then you drive to the pier, which is not clear to find with the map they gave you at the first place. We got lost and barely made it to the ship on time. And If you late, no refund of course. read more

They really pack the boat, like there were people that had to sit on the drink cooler it was so full. Crew was great, explained everything well (could have mentioned to pay attention to other swimmers around) and were attentive. It wasn't 2.5 hours though... we only had an hour in the water, and an a little under an hour trip time. My only complaint is about fellow passengers. It amazes me how rude people can be. Lady next to me kept elbowing me, hitting me with her bag, and then when we got back on the boat found she had been sitting on my towel so it was soaking wet. People kept kicking us in the water and running into us. I get if you are a first timer but you have to be aware of your surroundings and not JUST look down. I think if the boat wasn't so full, maybe these things wouldn't have been an issue. read more

Storms predicted until 3 pm with a break at 4 then more storms at 5 pm. 35 minute boat ride to get to the snorkeling spot. At noon heavy black clouds and the wind starting kicking up. At this point customers should be give the option for a rain check but this company is more concerned with making money than the safety and feelings of their customers. As we stared out on the boat the waves got very large due to the wind kicking up. For me this was NOT fun. It was very scary but I also didn't want to throw $170. Out the door. I have been on many snorkeling excursions all over and hands down this was the WORST experience I have ever had. It was raining on the was out to the reef, black clouds, high winds. When we got to the reef the water was crazy choppy and rough. Almost impossible to snorkel with the rough water. Their were few fish to see because we couldn't get that close to the reef due to choppy rough water. I would have given this company a 1 if it had not been for Rick snd Katrina, 2 of the crew people. They were very good and helpful. As for the boat it was ridiculously loud. The loudest I have ever heard for a snorkeling boat. Bring ear plugs because I'm sure I had some hearing damage. Many of the blow up life vests are old, worn out, faded, and frayed. I will never book in advance with this company due to their poor weather policies. First and foremost: Keep in mind is that you ARE going to a coral reef. Lots and lots of different types of living coral. If you're considering wearing sunscreen for your trip, make sure it's labeled safe for reefs as to not harm the reproduction of the coral and their very slow development so that others can enjoy for years to come as well as provide habitats for all the reef fish you get to see on this trip. We booked our trip a few weeks out for my 40th birthday so I couldn't predict if the weather would be optimal for snorkeling. As the time came, the weather was partly sunny with thunderstorms all around us which made the water very choppy. It didn't make for a great excursion as it was just a little too much for me to handle. In no way was this anyone's fault, just speaking in terms of my personal experience as the sea sickness hit a few snorkelers. The boat is large and clean. They provide fins and masks or you can being or purchase your own when checking in. We bought ours at check-in station. All the staff members were very professional and friendly and overall made sure everyone was okay. The boat had lots of room as well as covered space to take shelter from sun or rain. I would absolutely love to go back again on a day when it's sunny and calm. The price is very affordable, $50/person and while I couldn't handle the chop, current, and swim out to shallow reef, my husband had a great time. Floating vests are required for you to wear and trust me when I say, you'll love having it. They also provide noodle floats as an additional help to staying on the top. I wish I had gotten one for myself but I was too proud thinking I could handle it as I'm pretty athletic and fit. Also because shallow reef is VERY shallow. You're right on top of the reef floating on the surface. Tips to make your snorkel trip great: Eat a healthy but small meal before going. Bring a GoPro!! I cannot say this enough! Also, a filtered mask and snorkel that doesn't allow water in the tube. I purchased my and my husbands snorkel gear from Sundiver for around $120 and they're great. read more

My girlfriend and myself live right by the key in an awesome lake condo and decided at the last minute to snorkel after being in bed most of the day. We called last minute evening and were told the whole day was booked but to call back at 8:15am because they still hadn't heard from a large group that was planning to come. (Donna was very pleasant and broke the "already booked" news with sympathy.) Well, we just decided to arrive at 8am and let them know we were ready if they had availability. As luck would have it, we got on. ATTENTION: ANYONE GOING ON THEIR WEBSITE SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE THE ONLINE COUPON THAT DISCOUNTS THE TICKET AND AN UNDERWATER CAMERA IF YOU WISH TO PURCHASE ONE!!! ALSO, THE PRICES ARE VERY WELL POSTED. We were bringing the equipment we needed since I have een an advance diver for over four years now and was more than prepared, we boarded with 30 other people. Yes, seating was tight and some had to sit on a quasi "seat" near the front. The captain (Tom, I think) was very direct, non nonsense, and safety oriented. He also had an amusingly dry sense of humor. His crew were helpful and friendly. The only suggestion I would have is for Oscar to speak very loudly when he's at the end of the boat. The crew was great to my girlfriend, who was her first time in open ocean and was scared of everything. The captain was VERY clear about the snorkeling rules and Florida Laws concerning the reef, which us Floridians REALLY appreciated. The reef was amazing. Just deep enough for this mom who found the trip to the Christ statue with a John Pennekamp trip a little too deep. I know a lot of people are worried about jellyfish, so I want to say I only saw one. Everything about this trip was great and we will definitely be visiting this business when we return. After reading some of the negative reviews earlier this year, I want to support this business's commitment to safety. There is nothing more important out on the water than safety and a captain is responsible for returning his passengers safely home. Period. Overall we got to see tons of fish including yellow tale,groupers, chubbs which were funny and at some point were surrounding us. We saw a huge trumpet fish and a few barracudas. the reef was gorgeous full of royal purple sea fans and brain coral. The waters was pristine and a huge visibility. my girlfriend saw a small shark and maintained calm. i was so proud of her, she got comfortable right away going for long swims and even diving greeting closer to the fish. Now she is hooked into snorkeling and the ocean overall which makes me very happy as it is a way of living for me. I'm glad this company made the day for us and now we an use them often and enjoy for of the reefs. The reef was about 15-20 feet deep, for me i was like a pool, for her it was an open water adventure. We chose the Sundiver shallow reef snorkeling outing as my kids are 11 & 16 and fairly uncomfortable in the ocean. It was the most fun we've had on any recent vacation, and very memorable. Captain Daryl and mate Alexis were great. We saw many fish, a beautiful reef, and even shark and barracuda. If you are a beginner, this is an excellent snorkeling excursion for you. As a Miami native, I have spent most of my life in and on the water so I have been on many snorkeling trips in my lifetime, but what I forget, and was reminded of today, is that I fall into the minority and most people around the world have snorkeling on their bucket list, not something that they did just about every weekend as a kid. As someone who resides in Miami Beach, I have turned into a hotel for my out of town friends. Other then the excellent restaurants, great nightlife, and of course beautiful beaches, I forget that I can be in Key Largo in an hour and 20 minutes and feel like I went on vacation to the Caribbean and snorkel in coral reefs with tropical fish. #blessed When I was entertaining an out of town guest, with the weather report clear for the day, we drove down to Key Largo and went snorkeling for the afternoon. Although my guest was a Marine, she had never been snorkeling in her life so snorkeling we went. We found Sundivers online and called to reserve a spot. We showed up at their location off of route 1, paid a bargain price of $34.00 plus $7.00 equipment rental, and were given instructions to the boat and dock at the Key West Inn (3 minute drive). Ken, the boat captain, was an pro. His captain skills were exquisite. The instructor, Matt, was excellent at explaining equipment and snorkeling technique and also very entertaining and down to earth. Matt even checked and adjusted all of the snorkelers equipment before exiting the boat to snorkel. Exceptional customer service! Both Ken and Matt were extremely personable and wanted to make sure all of the guests got all of the photo op's taken care of by doubling as photographers. Their commentary was very entertaining during the 30 minute trek to the reef. My bf and I are water brats so we knew before we even drove down to Key Largo that the conditions were not ideal due to the wind, but our first timer was excited and motivated so off we went. Other then the bf and I, everyone else seemed to be beginners on the excursion and had an excellent time and stayed off off the boat for the full time allotted. After being pushed around by the current, semi murky water, and no motivation to free dive due to the conditions (we were coasting on the top) we retired to the boat but we still had an excellent day out. I was very impressed with how nice, clean, and sanitized the equipment was. They would even wash it again right in front of you. After the excursion was over, they have a shower, bathroom, and hose right at the dock to rinse off. I highly recommend this charter for beginners/children and anyone that isn't the greatest/not very comfortable on the water. You will have a blast! For more intermediate/advanced/divers, you might be very bored. Excellent afternoon excursion from Miami Beach. We were the only boat in there, that was very nice( no crowd in the water) With that much time you can swim get some rest on the boat and go back to water. We really enjoy.
