When you are traveling with family and arrive to your hotel late and no one feels like or physically cannot explore town for a late night bite the hotel restaurant is a great way to go. Diva delivered. Our party of five slumped into comfortable seats and were quickly setup with "app-ys" and drinks in their lovely and cozy lounge. The service was fabulous and the food was wonderful. We had Beetroot Hummus, Daniel's Focaccia, and the Truffle Fries while we split a Margarita Pizza 5 ways. Each thing was very good. Came on a Friday at around 4:30pm for a quick bite. Sliders: pretty dry and sad. The buns were soft but not buttery Tuna tataki: very fishy (yes I know it's fish) but in a bad way. Like bad ocean flavours and the green sauce did not help. I did like the marinated cucumber and the edamame. That went well with it Calamari: best dish of the night. The sauce was not good but the calamari was fried perfectly. Not overly chewy and pretty tender. Batter wasn't too heavy Overall service was good. Food was Mediocre but the atmosphere was great. We really enjoyed it! As we were staying at the Metropolitan Hotel connected to the Diva, we came to Diva multiple times. Our first night, we had cocktails only. We tried their Tito's Palmer. It was very good. Our first morning here, we had breakfast. I had the Diva Classic. I had soft scrambled eggs with bacon, smashed breakfast potatoes and toast. While the potatoes were a bit salty for my taste, overall, it was a great meal and a great presentation. My wife had the Avocado toast. It came with 2 poached eggs. She enjoyed her breakfast. Convenient downstairs restaurant to our stay at Metropolitan Hotel. My family tried their dinner, weekend brunch, and breakfast during our stay. It wasn't busy at the times went so service was fast and friendly. There was hockey playing on TVs, lounge chairs/tables, and we were seated at the same table each time - fine with us! We came here for our department Christmas lunch. It was fairly quiet on a Monday. Service was excellent and the decor was nice. We shared two appetizers - truffle fries and Brussels sprouts. Both were really good. You could smell the truffle. The fries were crispy and flavorful. The dip was quite superfluous. The Brussels sprouts were tasty too and I liked eating it with the sliced chili pepper as it made it a bit spicy. I had the lobster roll. It was served with waffle crisps and salad. The salad was refreshing as it had a tangy dressing. I did not care for the waffle crisps though. The lobster roll was quite small but it was filled with lobster meat. There was no filler and not drenched in Mayo or other stuff to mask the taste. However it did not wow me as I still could not taste the natural sweetness of the lobster. The best part was the roll which was a milk bun. That had a tinge of sweetness to it. I could eat several of the bun on its own. I would want to go back again during happy hour for the cheaper truffle fries and Brussels sprouts. One spot that I have to go more often not just to eat food but have an experience. From previous reviews I can tell that they do care about their patrons extra ordinarily. We were not only greeted instantly but seated the very next minute and the enthusiasm in the usher n server excited us even more. We got the perfect little window facing corner to sit and a very gentlemen server. Excellent customers service in not only serving them but overall handling of everything going on. One hotel restaurant that take pride in the food they serve. Made my stay here so enjoyable since the hotel wasn't to accommodating to myself and or my Bonvoy Elite status. They won't have a nice review. But DIVA made up for it. My first day in for lunch I went straight for the seafood linguine and the sauce was absolutely mouth watering. I was literally scraping the plate. I saw the miso Sable fish and I was in heaven. Day 2 I went for light bites during happy hour. The smoke stuffed meatballs was delicious. Tasting the hint of smoke after every bite was delightful. The Baja tacos are lightly battered and phenomenal. I hate corn tortillas but with the combination of flavor you by pass it all. One the side with the truffle fries. If you love that hint or parm then this is the way to go. I am sure my day 3 breakfast lunch and dinner experience will be nothing but a happy ending time :-) read more

Since I was so hungry, I decided to order from the main menu and chose the lobster roll with the chips which were slightly salty for my taste. Lobster roll was very good but wish the roll was larger and ended up ordering the sliders which were part of the HH menu as I was still hungry. Lovely ambiance but it's just overpriced. Went to the Mother's Day Buffet Brunch. There was a roast beef bar, pasta bar and eggs freshly made on the spot. Went to the pasta bar and was offered the "recently made" ribbon cream sauce pasta with mushrooms and garlic. Was just so so. There was a good breakfast selection. Mini fried chicken on waffles, red pancakes, bacon, sausages and crispy potatoes. A highlight was three types of Eggs Benny - salmon, ham or asparagus based. There was also salad in an open mason jar, cheese and meat platters and Asian breakfast portions. I felt like I ate about $35 of food and beverages. My party was probably on par. The portion was good but it didn't wow me. However, the presentation was nice. I appreciated that. Husband wasn't too hungry so, he went for the battered cod fish tacos. He wasn't impressed. He thought it was mediocre. I liked it! So I ate the rest of the fish and didn't finish my pasta. We had a couple of drinks too. I had a glass of Rose' that I liked very much. Hub had some sort of beers. The drinks were the highlight for me. All in all, It was still a pleasant experience and I really enjoyed the sparkling water that kept coming. I was staying at the Metropolitan and came here after hearing all sorts of good things. It was around 9 pm on a Saturday night. It wasn't very busy, and we got a table up near the front. I ordered an apple cherry cider which was delicious. It was cold and rainy out, so I wanted something hot and filling. I decided on the Truffle Spaghetti with Kobe meatballs. It was amazing ! The spaghetti was cooked to perfection. The marinara was wonderful and just the right amount. There were 4 large meatballs, and 2 slices of multigrain garlic toast. I couldn't of been more pleased with my meal. My husband had to leave before he could order, so I had a flatbread pizza made to take with me. We ate it later on that night, and it too was quite good. Artichokes were really tasty. Total for 2 drinks, the pizza and the spaghetti was just under 70$ with tax and tip. I highly recommend and will return. read more

I came here for dinner. This is located in the Metropolitan hotel (right on the right as you enter lobby). The interior is really nice and we had a nice table by the window. They have a good wine list--we had a really good Argentinian Malbec. You have a choice of ordering either off of the regular menu or a three course table d'hote--I chose the three course meal and was really pleased. For the first course I was torn between the scallops or the pork belly. Fortunately, the scallops included some of the pork belly. The overall dish was great--the scallops were cooked just right, and I loved not just the excellent pork belly but the overall dish--definitely worth having. Next I had the wild mushroom risotto with the wild prawns. This was outstanding. The risotto was cooked just perfectly and the mushrooms were great. The prawns were big and fresh and the perfect complement. As good as the first two courses were, my favorite might have been the chocolate souffle. I am not a huge chocolate fan, but this was simply sublime. The souffle was cooked perfectly, but was made superb with a great sauce and pistachio ice cream. Christmas morning we decided to go to for brunch before heading out to a movie. Not much open so my friend searched and found Diva. As soon as we discovered it was a hotel restaurant I was reluctant to go, but it's more about the company, right? Peter ordered orange brioche french toast, which he was really pleased to find on the menu. He seemed to really enjoy it but the portion was pretty small and it wasn't orange brioche but brioche was orange pieces on top. I ordered eggs over easy but they came over medium. The potatoes had some sundried tomatoes but they were pretty flavorless. The sausage was good and I asked for it well done and it arrived that way. $15 for a basic breakfast was frustrating for me as was the $4.25 for a coffee, even though refills were complimentary. But it was hotel so I just shut up and was glad I didn't have to wash up afterwards. Wait staff was super nice as was the hostess. It's not hard or expensive to create good breakfast food. I understand there is a chef shortage in this city and based on the yelp reviews I can see Diva has been a victim of this trend. Wouldn't go back but it certainly wasn't the worst breakfast I've ever had. read more

Dinner with the boyfriend again :) The menu is pretty simple, and we couldnt pick between what to order, so we decided to try out the tasting menu, which seemed to contain all the dishes we wanted anyway. $55 for the tasting menu and $90 with wine pairing. We decided to go for the wine paring for both of us. We started out with a glass of champagne and an amuse bouche of salmon ice (?) cream. Wow. Definitely a very good start! They also served us breadsticks and a basket of bread with butter topped with a brown butter powder. 1) Salmon tataki with pickled vegetables, sorrel, watermelon radish - The salmon was nicely cooked and it still had the gleaming glaze when it was served. The salmon was sweet and slightly seared outside while tender inside. Mm. 2) Pan seared foie gras with yuzu marmalade, membrillo, apple, brioche - The ingredients were plated in a way which separated all of them, which felt a little weird at first. The most wow thing on this plate wasnt so much the foie gras (oh it was still good though!), but the foie powder/ butter thing which had a powdery texture but melts like butter. We asked the waiter how it was made, and apparently it went through some very complicated process of boiling, freezing and then getting it back to room temperature for the powdery texture D: !! 3) Smoked black cod with olives, tomato, capers, almond - The highlight of the dish was definitely the pairing of the cod with the tomatoes at the bottom and the olive puree. The tomato was sweet, which neutralised the slightly acidic taste of the olive puree. Both added a bang to the fresh cod which was perfectly seared. So good I can eat more! 4) Prime beef tenderloin with braised root vegetable fricassee, red beet root jus - This dish was okay. The beef was supposed to be medium rare, but more to medium by California standards. It wasnt too dry, but still tender inside. The red beet sauce was okay, but not wow. The root vegetables though, were a nice touch. 5) Cheese cake - We read about the cheese cake on Yelp reviews, and asked to swap one of the dessert in our tasting menu to a cheesecake. It was a good choice because the cheese cake is excellent! It was slightly thicker and creamier, but very very good :) 6) Torn spice cake with crème fraîche ice cream & pumpkin marmalade - This was supposed to be their regular desert on the tasting menu, but unfortunately the spice cake and pumpkin marmalade didnt work for me :( What a pity though, I wish the meal ended more with a bang. We had at least 5 glasses of wine (including the champagne) by the end of dinner and were honestly feeling quite tipsy midway. The pairing was good, but a little too much. Probably would not do the pairing if we were to come back again. For $55 without the pairing, I'd say the price is pretty fair. However, if I compared this to our dinner at Le Crocodile, it definitely paled much in comparison. For $90 with the pairing... I'd probably go for Le Crocodile instead. read more

I had breakfast this morning at Diva at the Met (it's in the Metropolitan Hotel). I ordered the two free-range egg breakfast with roasted ham. It was okay, not great. It took a while from the time I ordered to the time it was a served (about 25 minutes). The might explain why there was such an inconsistency in the heat of the meal. The toast and ham were cold, the eggs and fruit were warm and the home fries were hot. I won't be rushing back the next time I'm in Vancouver. read more

I booked a Mother's Day buffet brunch for my wife. I was surprised upon entry that the place seemed quite empty. Once we were sat down & taken a look at the buffet selection, we realized why. The carving station had 2 dry & over cooked pieces of meat on there. The oyster station was pretty empty and there was a few sad looking pieces of sushi next to it and some cooked prawns. The selection of cooked items was also poor. Dry bacon & sausages. Sad looking egg bennies. Extremely dry fries & chicken strips. Thai chicken curry with hardly any chicken. Some pork belly with soggy & rubbery skin. The dessert station was also poor. Very small selection of poorly put together sweets. When we were ready to get some food at the carving station the cooks were too busy talking to serve us so we went without. Same deal with the omelette station. Nobody could be bothered to serve us. The buffet was supposed to run until 3pm but by 2:30pm they were already packing stuff away. The staff seemed like they couldn't wait to get out of there. Speaking of which, the staff were quite friendly but the service was poor. Very inattentive, didn't seem to care if you were enjoying the food, didn't care if you needed more drinks, just felt like you were an inconvenience rather than a paying guest. The cost of $75 per person was outrageous for the quality & selection offered. The final insult was the 17% service charge that was automatically added to the bill. What an awful & disappoint experience. I can not recommend and will never return. The only good thing I can day was that the valet parking was included. read more

The waiter was so kind and always checked up on how the food was. He also thanked us after for choosing Diva and for coming in! He was extremely attentive 5/5 for service. Note: he wasn't our server he was just A SERVER who worked there. Now that I think of it.. maybe he was the manager. Who knows. Food- I got the halibut and it was OK, ever so slightly over cooked and it wasn't filling. My partner got seafood fettuccine and it was delicious! Would come back for drinks and service. By far Vancouver's best kept secret. Chef Hamid has taken this restaurant by storm. Had the 5 course tasting menu tonight, which could have easily been an 8 course tasting menu when you include the "snacks" that came with it. Hardly snacks by any stretch, it was like having little gems to feast the eye as well as the palate before the 5 courses even started. While all courses were amazing, I have to mention my personal highlights. Those were the Smoked Bone Marrow Truffle custard, the Sunshine Coast Sturgeon, and the Veal Cheeks. The bone marrow custard was ingeniously presented in hollowed out egg shells nestled in a bed of straw warming in a wooden box. The sturgeon was meaty, but deliciously moist and tender. The veal cheeks were melt in your mouth. Another dish to mention (that was not part of the 5 course tasting menu) was the Butter Poached Atlantic Lobster. O-M-G. Decadence on a plate. Rich, bold, creamy, and just plain made you feel good inside. My friend had this dish as a starter. I plan to order this the next time I dine here. Each dish was hearty, full of bold flavours of smoked protein and truffles, not to mention cooked and presented to perfection. Ordered the pear soup: nice , creamy, didn't notice much of the pork bellym. Entree: 2 pieces if hen, cooked crispy nice. Added the 3 scallops for $13, very yummy and moist. The Hot Chocolate Festival for 2016 has begun and my first pick this year is Diva at the Met and their intriguing chocolate globes and bombs. You can see a 4-minute video of them in action here: https://youtu.be/JATIQAcRWkQ #21 - "CITRUS ZENSATION" A chocolate globe filled with fresh raspberry puree melts into a steamy sensation of dark Cacao-Barry Extra Brute, pure orange juice, and candied orange zest. All topped with freshly ground almond crumbs. Served with a petit orange-pistachio financier. #22 - "LICORICE BOMB 21" You have to be of legal age to try this. A chocolate bomb containing Pernod Anise, and cranberry juice slowly melts its way into a freshly steamed mixture of extra bitter Valrhona cocoa. Stirred and topped with an almond-graham streusel. Served together with a mini cranberry-coffee pound cake. Both drinks are structured similarly -- a cap of chocolate sits atop an initially very hot hot chocolate drink and is allowed to melt into it. The drawback is that once you've waited the 2 minutes or so it takes, your hot chocolate is no longer very hot anymore. I do not drink alcohol, so I only tried the Citrus Zensation. As hot chocolates go, it was alright. You are paying $8.40 (after tax, before tip) for not just the hot chocolate, but the chocolate cap and bomb, plus the fun of it melting into your drink. You are also paying for the smaller-than-a-ping-pong cake. My orange-pistachio financier was a very moist, dense cake very much packed with flavour and very tasty. I'm pretty sure we missed the almond crumbs and almond-graham streusel, but the bartender claimed they were in the chocolate globe / bomb. Hmm... Despite this hiccup, I'm giving them bonus points for interestingness. read more

This restaurant at the hotel Met is comfortable and felt local. I stayed at the hotel 11 nights for work and ate here twice. Had a fix price menu the first time and enjoyed a steak. The 2nd time I ate a fantastic Kobe meatball spaghetti. The service is great and the atmosphere is chill. It's never crowded but has enough ambiance to be worth spending time here. read more
