I'm giving this place two stars overall with the exception of the basil chicken dumplings which are a 3 to me. Basically this place is only for when you need food ASAP and you can't get dumplings anywhere else. But you'll probably be disappointed. The basil chicken dumplings were fine/good but the bulgogi beef tasted like pure oil; we couldn't even eat more than two apiece which was so disappointing. Also, the employee who fried them was not wearing a mask and did not wash her hands between cooking the dumplings and using the register which made us super uncomfortable. Finally, we got home to open the box and half of the dumplings had a hot pink (like highlighter hot pink) color to them. Very concerned I called to ask and the employee dismissively said "that's dye so you can tell which are chicken and which are beef." Ok that makes sense I guess but this wasn't stated anywhere so it was jarring. Overall if you need dumplings and nothing else in the city is open, your best bet is the chicken basil. But don't expect much! Dumplings aren't that hard to mess up but this place has found a way to disappoint. read more

It's a pretty simple place with a very simple menu that's written on the wall in chalk. I always stick to the same of 10 dumplings for $10. They have a long list of different types that they have, but my favorites are the beef (bulgogi specifically). I've only had my dumplings steamed but I will eventually try them fried. If you're really hungry, go with fried since it's faster to prepare. There are also dumpling specials and soup dumplings, but don't expect anything else besides drinks. As for the service, they do their job, they take the order and then the payment, but quite honestly, it just seems like they really don't want to be there. No smiles or hellos just take the orders and then cook. When this establishment first opened, the staff were a lot more welcoming, but now I don't get that feeling at all. Hopefully, this improves as they hire future staff. A smile makes a difference in a person's experience at a restaurant. read more

Rude people. I wanted to order the Peking Duck special. The kid at the counter barely acknowledged me . He was engrossed in his phone. The section of the menu for the special is in a separate box and the dumpling was priced at $2.10 per dumpling. There was nothing in that section of the menu that stated I had to get a minimum of 10. The kid said I had to get 10 and then turned his head back to his phone. As I left another employer was leaving ahead of me. And we've been coming here since this location has been opened. I write this as I continue to wait for my order. My receipt and my bank statement indicate that I paid for my order at 6:31PM. By the time I finish my review, it will probably be 7:20 There have been so many customers who have come in and out who have recieved their food before us. At 7PM, I went to inquire about the status of our food and was informed that they messed up their ticket orders. They assured me that it would be 2 minutes - I literally saw them put the dumplings in the pan as I was walking up to the counter. Unacceptable. Do not lie to my face. I so wanted to like this...and have been waiting to try the place for a while now. The Asian lady who rang me up was not nice, almost felt as if she was racist towards other asians(myself). She was nice to the customers there who were caucasian. Service and cashier would not crack a smile. Very unfriendly environment and did not feel very welcome to support a local business with literally now competition in the area. As a Rockville/ Gaithersburg frequently visitor Bobs 66 , Shanghai taste to name a few my expectations were super high to be able to drive 5 minutes from my home in Shirlington.. now to the food Soup dumplings 's we're not soupy at all and lacked taste. I'm used to almost burning my tongue off when eating soup dumplings and there was no steam or boiling goody soup in the dumplings sigh... I dropped in here for lunch today, and when I came inside t was ominously quiet. My girlfriend had eaten here once before so she recommended it to me. I ordered the same dish that she had ordered previously, which was lemongrass Shanghai shumai dumpling platter. These are steamed cooked and are not completely wrapped, that is they are open-faced dumplings. They gave me the option to include pork, chicken, or tofu for the protein ingredient. I went for the chicken as the meat part. Because I knew that it would sit well with my stomach. I've never been a fan of tofu or any other types of exotic meats. The dumplings included a mixed vegetable and some brown rice that were all mixed together. The single employee who was doing everything including serving as the cooks was able to take my order and got started quickly preparing my food. I decided to try some dumplings on a whim before grocery shopping- their location made it perfect to call in with my order, do my grocery shopping next door, and then pick up my food when I was done (steamed dumplings take 15-20 minutes). Picking up my food, there were a few other people waiting. This was my first time here, but I get the sense most people do carry out. The ladies behind the counter were SO nice! We ordered the bulgogi beef as well as the pork and bell peppers- $22 (w/ tax) total for 20 dumplings. They were delicious! Both kinds were incredibly flavorful and didn't fall apart without being too doughy - a problem I have had with steamed dumplings in the past. They had a station with sauces (soy sauce, chili sauce, etc.) and to go cups which I appreciated. The bulgogi beef dumplings were my favorite of the two, though I do wish they were just a smidge less greasy. I am excited to try more! While being delayed a night from flying out, I was at a hotel a few miles from Reagan National Airport, close to Crystal City. It dawned on me that I should get dim sum since it's not that big of an option at home, yet I wasn't in the mood to take the metro subway system to go to Chinatown. I wanted to get some walking in. I searched for dim sum restaurants in yelp, of course and noticed it wasn't too far, maybe a mile away. It's within a strip mall consisting of a fitness gym, laundrymat, other restaurants, and Giants a grocery store chain up in that area of the US. It's a small area that does have tables and seats if one chooses to eat there. There's even a narrow hallway towards the back where the restrooms are found and some tables there as well. The counter is easy access and you can see the kitchen right there behind it. As you walk in, the main wall is essentially the menu. That may be cool but I kinda wish they also had photos next to the items. Along that same wall is the counter where the condiments (soy sauces, vinegar, hot sauces, etc) are located. There's even small containers should you want to make your own mix. They also had paper cups and a large water canister if one chose to have just water. They had plastic utensils and wooden disposable chopsticks and napkins too. All quite nice. I had called ahead to make sure they had the shanghai dumplings - xiaolongbao and they did. Hey, I didn't want to walk in the dark for nothing. The woman at the counter when taking my order had mentioned about the different dumplings they had. Apparently you can mix your orders - i.e. (can't recall actual price, but 10 for $12; but you can have 3 of the pork & shrimp, 5 of the buddha choice, 2 of the basil chicken; or whatever combination you wanted). I was so thrilled of that option that I realized that it was NOT what I came in for, as I wanted what on their menu is called "Soup Dumpling". And there was no way I was going to be able to eat all that food (well, I could eat that much food but I was already starting to try and slowly get back to normal appetite after a few nights of unhealthy eating). She was real nice about canceling that part of the order and then placed my order. It took maybe 15 minutes as I went back out to check out the rest of the strip mall swing into Giants. I think there was a couple that was eating there, and there were a good bit of consistent carry-out orders. They smelled so good when I picked them up. There were 8 of them and they were pretty good. The skin was that proper thickness but in hindsight, I should have eaten it right inside the restaurant. As when you eat them straight after they are made, the "soup" still has the rest of the dumpling supple from its steam and by the time I got back to my hotel, it had definitely cooled down. But hey, it was a rare occasion for me to be eating dim sum while watching tv . . . isn't that the classic? Chinese take-out while watching tv on a Saturday night?! If it's to have dim sum, oh yeah, I'd be a willing regular statistic. read more

I got to check out District Dumplings for lunch yesterday. They have so many options! An order gets you 10, and you can mix and match which is exactly what I did. I tried all the meat options and I think I liked the peking duck, chicken basil and chicken and shrimp best. I say think because they weren't labeled and I put siracha in my soy sauce so it was hard to tell the difference on some, but they were great dumplings! I'll be back. read more

District Dumplings is simply my favorite dumpling place in the DMV. The place is small, it's definitely better for take-out. Most important part of this review: they make the best dumplings ever! The curry beef and basil chicken are amazing. I wish I could eat this every day. Anyone who says otherwise simply has bad taste. These dumplings are fresh and amazing, end of story. I order them fried and they're always consistently delicious. I recommend asking them to include a side of the vinegar sauce, they should definitely include this with to go orders automatically but you have to ask them. Usually it's just one person working so sometimes it's not the fastest service BUT it's worth the wait. Let these haters hate, more dumplings for us! I am excited about this place! I was watching it & anticipating the opening and finally tried it. The mix and match 10 for $10 dumplings are a steal. We got pan fried- chicken and basil, pork and shrimp, and bulgogi beef. They have meat and vegetarian options. To be honest, while sharing them, it wasn't easy to differentiate the flavors. However, all were delicious. The seating area is small, but they are busy in the kitchen cooking the dumplings while you wait. The place was pretty busy when we went so it took a little bit to make them. They have a little station where you get your utensils and any soy sauce or sauces you want. This is a great addition to the neighborhood and I hope they do well! I am excited to have Asian offerings in our neighborhood between this place and Kovi next door. I will be going back. read more

Vegetable Shumai is to die for if you like mushrooms. I do. The kale dumplings are good and the squash and cheese aren't bad. Dumplings are either steamed or friend and they take a while. I never mind waiting. The staff is less than enthusiastic about their jobs. The owner or manager I enjoy. It's never packed and I wonder if they're going to make it as restaurant. Peking Duck dumplings are 10/10. So good. They are $2 each and I only ordered two to try. The other dumplings I had were standard and solid.

I've been to the Fairfax location many times and was very excited to see that DD was coming to near where I worked. You can get 10 dumplings for $10, pan fried or steamed and mix and match with many different varieties or soup dumplings 8 for $12 in 3 varieties. I stopped in today and got 10 pan fried dumplings - 5 pork and celery and 5 pork, shrimp and chives. There is complimentary water and hot tea. You can also buy bottled drinks. Unlike the Mosaic location, you don't get a free side of noodles to nosh on while you wait, which is quite disappointing as that is one of the highlights of visiting DD for me. The dumplings came out in about 10 minutes. They were very delicious and I enjoyed them. I will admit, I did not know which dumplings were which as they all came out mixed together in one dish. While it would be nice to have had them split up by flavor, I can see how that would get difficult if someone is ordering 1 of each dumpling. Been wanting to try this place for a while. We Went there for a "light and fast dinner" and could not have been more disappointed. The order took way longer than it says on the sign, though ours was the only order at the moment. When food finally came out the dumplings dough tasted old and very chewy. I've had pan fried dumplings before which are never considerable greasy...this was not the case, there was so much oil on them that we both left feeling disgusted and bloated from it. So no light dinner there. Plus my husband order only meat dumplings and ended up with 3 vegetable ones that he didn't order and clearly didn't enjoy. The soup dumplings are not really soup dumplings. Kitchen doesn't know how to make them yet they are on the menu. Properly made with soup gelatin, they should melt on steaming providing a pocket of hot soup. None of that here. The product here is edible just not what is expected.
