There was an event going on so the downstairs dining area was full, and our only option was the bar or rooftop. We decided on the rooftop, which would've been super fun on a warm spring or summer night. It really was beautiful up there. But, it was cold and had been raining, so it was a bit of a bummer we couldn't be comfortable at a table inside. I figured I could get past being cold if the food was at least good, but the pretzel was dry and hard. They didn't offer beer cheese which was a bummer, so I tried queso and buffalo chicken dips. The dips were yummy despite the lame pretzel. The cherry on top was that the service sucked. The guy working the rooftop bar seemed miserable, like he would've rather been anywhere else. He was rude and snarky when we asked questions about the menu and made us feel like an inconvenience when we asked for to-go boxes. We will not be back.

We started with the French onion soup, and that cheese pull was AMAZING. Seriously, one of the better French onion soups I've had. The bacon-wrapped steak bites were delicious, the calamari was really good, and the shrimp gnocchi with pesto and pistachio was light, flavorful, and such a nice surprise. But the chef's kiss of the night was the ravioli. Everything about it was superb -- rich, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. That was definitely the standout for me. We enjoyed a few local beers and were completely stuffed by the time we were done. The ambiance was great, service was friendly and attentive, everything felt very clean, and the building had that historic Old Town feel we were hoping for. They had sport's playing, music going, and just an all-around fun atmosphere. Definitely a great spot to share dishes, try something different, enjoy a few drinks, and soak up the Alexandria vibe. We'd absolutely come back!

Last night we easily found a seat at the bar. They have a great beer selection though the wine selection is a bit limited. We ordered a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon. Haven't been to Chadwicks in a while, so it was nice to convene for a recent brunch to catch up with some friends. While there is limited outdoor seating, I prefer the upstairs since it's typically quieter, and the abundant windows naturally illuminate the space. The interior is also characterized by nautically themed decor, along with exposed brick walls and hardwood flooring. TBH, this is one of the better Brunch spots in Old Town. There brunch menu is extensive - https://static1.squarespace.com/static/68d065ce6d80726524c2bca9/t/6a3d8efe5e4fbd1439f0bc1a/1782419198238/Brunch.pdf - and has all of traditional breakfast offerings of pancakes, french toast, a variety of eggs, sausage/bacon/ham, etc. While there are also lunch type savory options such as sandwiches and chicken and pasta entrees, I opted for the classic biscuits and gravy. I don't normally eat this type of heavy carb heavy dish...but every now and then, it's not so bad. The plate arrived with two buttermilk biscuits, country bacon gravy, two sunny side up two eggs, and home fries. The gravy was nice and thick with pieces of sausage bits, but I found the biscuits on the dry side, rather than buttery and flaky. Eggs were prepared properly and had that satisfying "ooze" when the yolks were popped. Home fries tasted previously frozen and could've used a few more minutes in the fryer. Service was a bit slow as there was only one staff taking orders and delivering food. But he was friendly and would circle back around to check on our group frequently. Pair your meal with a few choices of cocktails (I ordered a $5 mimosa) and Chadwicks brunc h is a great way to spend a few hours on a Sunday afternoon. Be sure to inform your server ahead of time, if separate checks are desired. One brunch entree, one mimosa with tax and tip totalled to about $25.
