Candle making
Alisha B.

Decided to spend my birthday making a candle at District Candle Lab in Union Market. Keysha and Bobbi were very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was very inviting and allow for a stress-free fun activity. The overall candle making process only took about 30-45min depending on your mood to choose the candle scents. It will take 2 hours for the candle to cool down which allow me to go grab a quick lunch. The location also has a jewelry making place called Fawne that you can do while you wait! I will be back!

I made a reservation for my husband and I to make candles. We had a good time smelling and selecting our favorite scents. While we had a full hour, we were done in 30 minutes. A few things to be aware of: 1) Location - the site doesn't include directions. They are not IN the Union Market / food stall space but in the walkway behind it that has various shops. 2) Price - The $15 pp reservation fee goes towards the cost of the candle. You have a choice behind medium or large - the latter is $50 each - which I was a bit taken aback by since it wasn't listed on the site. 3) Time to pick up - We were told it would take 3 hours for our candles to be ready vs the 2 hours listed on the site. I had planned for us to walk around and have lunch but 3 hours was a bit too long so we opted to come back tomorrow.

Fantastic candle making class! We were 20 minutes late due an accident and they still let us make them but informed us of the time limit. I still felt the young lady was super attentive and engaged with us! Quality of the oils they use seem to be high end and the finished product also is impressive. We have yet to light them but excited to do so ! We'd go back !

Check out district candle lab for a fun girls night out. We reserved the 4 PM appointment and had the candle lab to ourselves. It was really fun and we got to choose our favorite sense to make our own candle. They have many scents to choose from and you get to select your own candle jar which differ in color and size. I think the price is great seeing that you take the time to make your own candle with scents like fresh linen and santal. Reservations - A non-refundable $15 reservation fee will be applied to your candle purchase 30-45 minutes for the candle making process Candles will be ready to for pick-up 2 hours after being poured. After 4 pm or later, you would need to pick up the next day. $48 - 58 Metered Parking Available District Candle Lab & Fawne Union Market, DC

Place has a nice amount of space. The selection for scents was perfect. The service was great. The instructor was nice and friendly. Kinda wish they spaced out reservations by ten mins so everyone isn't crowded trying to smell the scents at one time. But great outcome. Wasn't as informative as previous candle making classes but still enjoyable. Cost was 50 I believe for the large candle. Not bad for a great experience something to do in dc with loved ones instead of just eating.

I came to District Lab for a friend's birthday party. The staff was amazing and the store was nice! If you're having a celebration, you should stop by!

Perfect Girls Day Out! Had such a great time making Candles with my girls! The staff were so fun and helpful! There are sooo many fragrances that you can mix. Once complete, candles must sit and solidify. Can pick up in two hours or up to 2 weeks later. So grab lunch in the area! There are 3 different candle sizes, smallest starting at $38. They also have a charm bar where you can make customized bracelets and necklaces.

First candle making experience went well! I enjoyed it and left with a great smelling candle. District Candle Lab was a vibe. A vibe that let me know that I am in the wrong business. $45 for a small candle is a nice way to get a few bucks. The locations ducked off in an alleyway, so if you're in this industrial looking area, don't look past the alley lol. The interior has very nice decor, and the exterior is the same. They had plenty of scent choices that I enjoyed, that would be pleasing to anybody. The service was good. 1 thing to know is to give yourself time. It takes approximately 2-hours after making your candle to be able to pick it up as the wax has to fully set before DCL allows you to take your candle. They give you a week to return for pickup and if you don't then they will donate it. I give this experience a 3.5/5. It was fun and different, but I could see myself making my own candles for cheaper with wax and fragrance/essential oils and wooden wicks. I chose 4 earthy scents

Had a blast at DCL making candles with some friends! When we first arrived we were seated immediately and given some introductory information while we waited. They were already set up for our group so it was as easy as having a seat! Once we got started our instructor Sage walked us through each step and we had plenty of time to do each thing. My favorite part was smelling all the fragrances and picking out our favorite 6. Thank goodness for the coffee beans because after a while I surely couldn't even tell the difference! From start to finish it was just under an hour and the perfect activity for a date night or time out with friends! Since I had an evening appointment I had to wait to pick up "Jade" but I can't wait to take her home! A few notes: give yourself time to find parking so you're not late and try not to bring too much excess stuff with you. For $50 it was worth it! Thanks again to Sage, Lesly, and Jasmin! It is also worth mentioning that DCL shares space with Fawne charm bar. Fawne has some pre made jewelry you can grab or you also have the option of making your own charm bracelet and picking out some charms. My personal favorite were the zodiac necklaces on the back wall!

Went to District Candle Lab as a girl's date with my friend. There was street parking but Union Market has garage space available as well. We participated in both candle making and charm necklace (both in the same location). Activity 1: Candle Making We were able to create customized one-wick candles of our dream! Definitely have to get into their new fall scents. Mixed in some base scents as well, but it's giving FALL! My scent choices: - Fireside Marshmallow - Cuban Tobacco - Black Currant Vanilla - Smoke House - Pumpkin Pecan Pie Activity 2: Charm Necklace We made charm necklaces with 5 charms to give it a fuller look. All necklaces are non-tarnish but the charms vary (labeled). So many charms to choose from & this experience truly awakened the child inside of me. You can make a bracelet, necklace, charm link for your purse...you choose! The prices were reasonable and vary depending on your choices. The instructors were very friendly and make both experience straight forward. 10/10

This place is so adorable! If you are looking for a fun activity to do with a friend, sister, mother, or just by yourself... you should go make yourself a charm bracelet and/or a candle! The staff that work there are so kind and helpful. I would advise getting there right as it opens so that you can be first on the list to get your products made, since it is first come first serve. :)

I've been buying my leather journals here for years, and it has always been my go-to. The quality…read moreis beautiful, the service is consistently wonderful, and I honestly wouldn't go anywhere else for my leather journals. But today's experience deserves a special shoutout to Ye and Trey, who were absolutely lovely! I went in to buy my first refillable leather journal and officially joined what I'm calling the "refillable journal club." Ye and Trey spent so much time showing me all the ways I could customize it and really make it my own. I added cute charms and clips, had my nickname embossed on the front, and they even took the time to teach me about pens and fountain pens. I left with my very first fountain pen! What stood out most was how genuinely passionate they both are about what they do. They were so excited for me to start my first little collection book and even welcomed me "to the club." It made the whole experience feel so personal and fun. I probably spent an hour in the store, and the customer service was exceptional. As a business owner myself, I kept thinking that I would LOVE to have Ye and Trey on my team. They were knowledgeable, patient, kind, enthusiastic, and incredibly generous with their time. I've loved this store for years, but they made today's visit especially memorable. I'm already looking forward to coming back, seeing them again, and adding more to my journal. Five stars for the store, and an extra special thank you to Ye and Trey for making my first refillable journal experience such a great one! Best investment and value you could ask for when purchasing for yourself or others!!

Jenni Bick has been on my "must visit" list for quite awhile, so I was more than thrilled to stop…read moreby on my recent trip to DC for a Yelp event! I got there right as they opened, and literally spent an hour just slowly wandering through the beauty of all the journals, cards, notebooks, notepads, stickers, pens, paper, and general amazingness. If you're a planner (or pen) junkie, there's literally something for everyone here, and I found their prices to be varied enough that there was something for every budget. Did I need another set of pens, a new sticker, and a purse-sized notepad? Probably not! Did I buy some anyway. Absolutely! Bonus points that they also sell local postcards *and* stamps, so I was able to write a little note to friends and family back home on a DC-themed postcard. This spot will 100% be on my "visit again" list - because really, can you ever have enough journal supplies?!
