I search Tires in Mason Ciry, and find/call Tony's Tire. Online says they're closing but they answer, and gentleman says "guys are walking out but bring it by, I'll take a look. Sounds like you're in a bind." Understatement. I'd have to find a hotel and disrupt my whole trip, which would throw off my Thursday in a major way. A bearded younger guy, sorry I cant remember his name and another guy "Donnie" who had been with the company a short time and was still in training showed up within the hour. They arrived and immediately got to work. Put an inter tube in the tire and had the job done in less then an hour. Cleaned up the tire and the area. Checked air in other tires. Mentioned the front tires would need swapped out soon, asked if I wanted a quote and I said sure. Guy called the next day. Overall the guys were professional, friendly and very courteous. My brother went in for general car repairs and maintenance totaling $2,500 only to find out a week later that the entire frame was rotted and unsalvageable. The other mechanic he went to said "If you hit a pothole, you could literally lose the entire vehicle". The people at Midas MUST HAVE KNOWN about this issue for the following reasons: 1. If you're a half decent mechanic and you did anything which required putting a car on a lift, you would have noticed this issue (part of the $2,500 worth of work required this). 2. The people at Midas REFUSED to do an alignment which the customer specifically asked for. Once he went to another shop, they told him that it would be impossible to do that work due to the extensiveness of the rotting / rust / other associated issues with the vehicle. The mechanics at Midas have not one iota of human decency, and I hope this review helps consumers seek alternative shops for their automotive care. No one in their right mind would do $2,500 worth of work for a car they knew would require an additional $4,000 above and beyond the value of the vehicle, and that level of transparency was purposefully shielded by the management of this organization. If you are ever stranded in the area around Mason City, Iowa, Auto ER is the place to call. Andrew…read moreanswers his phone at odd hours, and you don't find yourself leaving VoiceMails, wondering if anyone might actually call you back. He and his other mechanics each have a story of their own, about being in dire need of mechanical repair...outside of the banker's hours that most auto shops keep. Because I was stranded about 4 hours' drive from home, my Avalanche got first priority on the lift, and Andrew and Pat started calling around for the parts that I was going to need. In my case, the ring and pinion in the rear differential had essentially grenaded, blowing a hole through the rear diff cover, and filling the interior of the differential with large steel fragments from the broken ring and pinion. If you get a chance, watch the video, from when Andrew first opened it. These days, repair kits, rebuild kits, and even whole axle assemblies are more expensive than they ever have been, availability is poor, and lead times to get any of them have grown from a couple of days to five to fifteen (!) business days. I was able to locate a replacement used axle some distance away, and Auto ER wasted no time doing a thorough and professional axle swap. Andrew and his men were on deck at 0600 in the morning, to start the swap. The shop there ordinarily opens at 0800. What I am saying is that Auto ER, Andrew, and Pat went well above and beyond, delivering next-level service to this stranded motorist, and I appreciate it greatly. A "business as usual" shop could easily have kept me stuck in Mason City for seven to ten days. Auto ER made sure that I was able to get back on the road relatively quickly, so that I could return home. Thank you, Auto ER! You guys are outstanding!
