Go elsewhere if you can. I have bought multiple contracts through other providers, who all magically seem to be bought out by Discount Power over the life of the contract (ex. Value Power, Revolution Energy, etc.), and also had Discount Power directly. As such, have plenty of experience with Discount Power in the last 3 years, as well as other providers, as the owner of several units throughout the Houston metro area. I switched from Discount Power to another company. I had a huge surplus on my account (close to $850) as I prepay my bills to make sure I am not late. I checked the account online, and then called the company. They then proceeded to lock me out of the online account permanently, stating that it was an old account so I shouldn't have access anymore (whereas, I had access to it right before I called). I had to argue and request a manager to get on the phone and speak at length before I got their word that they would send me a check with the balance. When I asked what happened to my security deposit, the manager said that they didn't know about that and another team would need to look into it and get back to me within a few days. It's been over a month and not a single reply back outside of letters warning me of service disconnection. It will likely take at least another month of following up to get anywhere with getting my $400 security deposit back, paid to my original power company that was acquired. Their technology is inadequate and frustrating. If you have more than one account with them, whether it is having multiple units, or having service with them in the past and restarting it after a break, you cannot use the same log-in. Literally every account number needs a new unique user name and email address to log in. As Discount Power seems to be buying other companies regularly, your chance of having more than 1 Discount Power account is good. Start creating new junk emails and having to remember all your different user names and passwords for Discount Power - unlike other companies who will just show you all your accounts, including recently closed one and active ones, using one access credential. Additionally, the customer service representative across all departments leave much to be desired. It may be that they are not empowered, but they frequently say things that are not accurate or communicated well ("we don't have an account like that in our system" - "well then, why did i get a password reset email to the correct email when I put in that username?"). read more

Absolutely terrible customer service. My service was transferred from another provider to Discount Power in December 22. In early March 2023 I called Discount Power asking if I missed an email because I was hoping to set up auto-pay for my new account. They informed me to watch for an email and nothing could be done before then. Today (3/27/23) I received an email from them - but the email and corresponding link were to notify me that my account was overdue and that my power could be shut off in 10 calendar days. Wow! What a way to welcome a new Customer. After paying my bill in full, I felt the need to warn others about my experience. If I were selecting electric providers - this experience alone would make me want to find a different provider. So if you're considering Discount Power but you've got another Company with comparable rates - do yourself a favor and avoid Discount Power. They seem to have a knack for turning simple/easy experiences into ones that leave a sour taste you won't soon forget! read more

If I could give zero stars I would for the worst customer service I've ever had. I am an single elderly disabled woman and I was just incorrectly charged an early termination fee. I had to wait on the phone for over an hour to speak to a supervisor and after I got someone on the phone, I could not understand him and he was the opposite of helpful. started a contract with Discount Power on 9/26/23. I don't Received any response or communication or confirmation introduction emails etc. I call them about confirmation they told me I haven't got approved because my credit file was locked my application has been rejected meaning I don't have a contract so I call different company got contract with them On 10/13/23, I received a final invoice for $452.00 I called discount power and the said I have to pay early termination fees of $295.00 Talk to there supervisor Gustavo he said he can't do anything about this because I am have a contract I talk to him if my application doesn't get approved because I have my credit file locked. That's why didn't got approved how I am in the contract . They told I have to call credit company Experian to unlock the credit file so they can get approval for my application but I never did get unlocked my file . Discount power never contacted me to let me know that it was not set up so now I have a $452.00 bill for two weeks of service and early termination fee . 1. My account with Windrose Energy was converted to Discount Power without advanced notice from either company. I found out about the transition before moving, when I called Windrose Energy to change my service to the new address. I was told to contact Discount Power. 2. I contacted Discount Power, and was assured that the transition from Windrose Energy to Discount Power would be seamless, and my service would transfer to my new address. 3. Discount Power did not terminate service at my old address on the planned date, and billed me for 8 extra days after the move-out date, until the account was force-canceled due to a new tenant beginning service at that address. This was the first email I ever received from Discount Power - I was never given a chance to create an online account. 4. Discount Power never initiated service at my new address, so my apartment complex is charging me a "vacant service fee" and 12 days of electricity at a very bad rate, until I became aware of Discount Power's failure and initiated service with another provider. 5. Discount Power was unhelpful via chat and phone when I tried to get the issue resolved. I was told if I wanted service at the new address, I would need to re-apply as a new customer, get a new credit check, etc., instead of the seamless transition I was promised. read more

We signed a 36 month contract in good faith. My wife's credit card was compromised and replaced. As the auto pay card was cancelled our payment did not go through. The moment I realized the auto payment issue, which a few weeks at most, I fixed it. I was a total of 9 days late.. and they chare heavily and had already issued a disconnection notice... 9 days, no curtesy call and when asked if they would remove the fee's over the unfortunate situation I got excuse of it's all an 'automated' system. we got switched to this company from energy Texas supposedly at the end of March and we didn't get notified until the end of May when we finally had received an almost $500 bill we called to inquire why we were getting billed from them that we didn't have them as a power company at that point they told us our account was bought out by discount power and we have had 2 months of unpaid bills when we were paying energy Texas still and it created such a mess and when I called to get things fixed discount power was absolutely no help, we were lied to by the company, our consumer rights were completely violated from the beginning, we can't get our previous security deposit back because of this situation, they didn't want to hear what we had to say about our situation and how it came to be, we were told we had to pretty much deal with our situation. By far the worst power company I have ever been with I wouldn't recommend this company because of the sly over charge fees. My monthly payment is $300+ and they don't warn you that your power will get disconnected either. So imagine a hot summer day you come home from work and your power is off even though you payed the bill prior to it being disconnected. They don't care it'll take them a day to get it reconnected. My previous electricity provider transferred my account to Discount Power in August 2020. The terms of transfer clearly stated that terms of the previous service arrangement will remain the same. Although my contract renewal date was July 2021, Discount power without any notice transferred me to monthly charge plan. I tried to dispute the charge to Discount power customer service plus management, they couldn't care less about honoring the dispute. I asked them to change all the bills in accordance with service agreement I had effectively held with the previous provider, however, they rejected. Besides, their monthly e-bill which comes to the email does not get you to the bill details. Although I mentioned them that their captcha does not let to go to next page even if correctly entered, they couldn't care less. Avoid this company at any cost. read more

I spoke with their customer service manager (Emory) and she was extremely non-understanding and forced me to pay the two months that I had already moved out for. I then paid the collection agency as there's no legal way to get out of that (that I felt like dealing with), and now Discount Power is asking AGAIN for payments. Craziness. Run far away. This is the worst electricity service I've ever working with. We applied for the account on 05/25, with the desire switch day was 05/27. They created the account number and because of THEIR problem, the account was duplicated, and THEIR issues, we haven't got any service. I've been contacted back and forth, more than 5 times calling with too many chat, all they said was "sorry, we understand your problem", and note down the issues. On 06/07, we still haven't got the services done, and all they do was telling me to wait another business day. All were THEIR problem, and they instead of starting the service, they do ask you to wait another 10 days. This is not where you should pick your supplier, there are many other option. Similar to some people here, I got a random call from a number I don't recognized and upon answering I was immediately hard sell to switch my electrical supplier saying I have good record and can offer me a 30% discount for 12 months. Not completely knowing what's going on I went along with it but later have buyer remorse and wanted to look up this company a bit more before making the switch. I told the representative to call me back later and that's when things starting to turn south, the attitude changed and they keep insisting me to give them my personal information and that we are 75% through. Terrible company I have ever met! This is my first time left negative review on Google. Around 05/05/22, I thought the price of Discount Power is charming so that I signed a 3 years contract with them starting 06/10/2020. Around 05/16/2022, I changed my mind because I found many negative feedbacks here so that I contact the customer office by the "online chat" and "phone" to discontinue the coming contract. At the same time, I found my account in discount power mistakely showed my 3 years contract already started on 05/05/2022 and will end on 06/10/2022. Because the new contract doesn`t even start, both the repsentatives on the phone and chat all told me "it is ok, don`t worry, or I can stop everything without any charge". They send a "discontinue service" order which starts on 06/10/2022 and told me it should be no anyfurther problem at all. I trusted them, then the nightmare started!! Discount power forcely switched my power on 06/10/2022 from my energy company. I called the Discount Power on 06/13/2022 to ask the problem. They confirmed that I should be no any relationship with them at all. And They also confirmed they moved me in on 06/10/2022, and tried to move me out at the same day. However, the move out request was rejected by centerpoint. So they told me that they will move me out and sent an investigation request for my case. I thought everything should be fine. However, the reality is that they start my 3 year contract as I never told them to cancel and stated in my account that is by my request. At last, I find my meter runs much faster after Discount Power took over! Please take your time to see my review and run away this company ASAP at all your cost!! They are totally not trustable! This can't be the same company from several years ago. They switched to Pennywise last fall and then switched back name to Discount Power again past spring. I do believe this is Pennywise that we dealing with right now they just took Discount Power name. They will sell you contract for a year for one price and once contract is in effect will charge you a higher price. They won't answer your email when you call their rep says he is sorry??? I don't understand all the negative reviews in regards to the late fee's, the reality is they do charge late fee's but they can easily be avoided.A tip for anyone concerned about the late fee, sign up for auto pay. I signed up for a 2-yr contract back in April, 2016. I pay no "maintenance fee" just the straight 7.8c/kWh, this was the best rate I could find at the time. I came home after work to find my electricity shut off. No email notices, no paper notice, no phone call, no text. Their office hours end at 5:30pm so by the time I commuted home to find no electricity they are closed for the night and I had no power for the night. Their office hours start at 8:30am so no power to get ready for work in the morning either. According to my online account, I have recurring payments set-up to my active credit card. My account shows that I have zero dollars due which cannot be right since the last charge billed to my credit card was December 2018. Their billing technology is clearly unreliable. So you should gather from the number of 5 stars and 1 stars, this company gets it right for some and gets it really wrong for others. I won't be renewing my contract with this company. ok so I'm getting dinner on the table for my kids and a guy calls to tell me I'm eligible for 15% off my National Grid electricity bill for the next 18 months, simply because I have paid my bills on time for the past 6 months. I listen while he confirms my name and asks for my account number, which I'm thinking he should already know if he knows about my payment history. it took a really long time before he even said the words "discount power" and I started figuring out that it's a separate company and he was not with National Grid, even though he kept saying that my emergency contact will still be National Grid... it just sounded fishy... and he was super pushy. eventually i tell him that i will research his company on my own time and he can call back another day. he insists that I complete the "confirmation process" during the call. I say, "sorry but i'll need to research this. also I'm busy getting dinner ready so I gotta let you go. thanks and good luck. bye." AND THE GUY IMMEDIATELY CALLS BACK, says "what happened? you hang up you phone on me?!" I say, "excuse me?? may I have your name please?" and he's angry, says "why you hang up?!" so I blocked the number. totally creepy. tl;dr Discount Power is a scam and their salespeople are scary aggressive. read more

I've been through two successful billing cycles so far with no surprise charges. Totals from first bill: $51.94/699 kwh = $0.074/kWh Totals from second bills: $179.69/2446 kWh = $0.0735/kWh I've no experience with their customer service as I signed up through Power To Choose. The power service began on the date I requested and I had no issues switching from my previous provider. I enroll in automatic billing and haven't had to deal with any late fees/penalties. I went online after talking about electricity rates with a buddy who just bought a house and found a rate that was about 12% higher. He didn't believe my rate so I had to show him my bill. I went back on PowerToChoose to see if my rate was still in the ballpark and it was. However, I noticed that their rating had dropped from 4 or 5 down to 2 in the two months that had passed since I switched. I thought I'd provide my good experience thus far, and if anything changes I'll come back and update with details. I kind of view utilities and mortgages in the same light. Going through the initial process can be better/worse across various companies, but once you are "in" (and especially if you autopay) things tend to go smoothly for the term of the contract. I wish these companies would match the competing offers that exist when your contract expires as changing service every 12/24 months is an annoyance. I get mailers from Gexa every couple of months trying to entice me back with a great rate...but the people behind those mailers must not be answering their phone calls because before I switched I gave them the chance to keep my business and they declined. Maybe someone at Discount Power will (read this and) create a customer retention product that will allow me to stay with them once my contract term is up. I majored in marketing and would be happy to develop that product in exchange for free electricity for life. ;) read more

Made my first monthly payment for half a month's worth of electricity. The bill was $45, I paid my bill a few days late. I was charged a $22.95 late fee because this company sends its disconnection notices out 2 days after the due date. That's equivalent to half of what my service cost was. I've never had this problem with any other company. Very bad first impression as a new customer. Even more frustrating is their lack of customer service. I was told by the Customer Svc. rep she will e-mail the billing department and request the fee be waived. Now I get to wait 24 hours for an answer. Judging by their billing and notices practices, I expect a no. I'm also transferring my service to a different unit in my building. Was signed on by Evergreen Power Solutions. Somehow their algorithm changed me from $0.082 3 months earlier with a different provider to now $0.154 for 12 months with Discount Power. Upon seeing my first bill I call to explain this plan doesn't seem right. Apparently "Energy Charges" may not be shown properly for Evergreen in these plans. Despite this computer issue, I'm on the hook to pay double my rate for a year. I ask repeatedly if I could even change plans, and was offered 36 months at $0.097. I actually agreed, and they lightly mentioned I still need to pay the $150 cancellation, even though I'm changing plans for more months. So now I've signed up today for Constellation at $0.087. Discount can keep their $150, I'm in the process of cancelling as we speak. read more
