I do NOT recommend this company. They enrolled me with an energy provider without my consent and without me lifting my credit freeze, which should have made any enrollment impossible. As a result, my current energy provider charged me a $390 early cancellation fee. When I contacted the new provider, they claimed to have a valid contract submitted through Energy Ogre. However, when I spoke with Energy Ogre, they admitted there was a misunderstanding and that they were working on canceling the contract. Despite acknowledging the error, they are refusing to take responsibility for the cancellation fee. I made it explicitly clear -- both over the phone and in writing -- that I did NOT authorize enrollment with any of the options they presented, as my current provider was offering a better plan. They continued to push me to switch, and I never agreed. The most concerning part is how they managed to enroll me without lifting my credit freeze, which raises serious red flags about their practices. I've filed a complaint with the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT). Do not trust them. Do not even create an account or give them your information. I use Energy Ogre to manage the electricity services at my residence and commercial properties. They would find the best energy rates possible for their customers so that you don't have to do that extra and tedious work to get the best deal. They do it for you! Wade, one of their customer service representatives, has done an exemplary job resolving an inadvertent shutoff of our electricity due to a change in service provider that I did not authorize. Definitely, he went above and beyond to resolve this issue and was very persistent in ensuring the power gets turned back on immediately. Signed up for their service and was enrolled in a 2yr contract at the peak of energy prices. Not sure why anyone would commit a client to a lengthy agreement with prices at their peak. Tried to renegotiate with that provider with no success. Cancelled my account paid a cancellation fee and changed energy providers saving over 4 cents per KW. Lesson learned!!! I have been a customer for 8 months and I have been over charged for power by 25% every month! They will not contract with the cheaper energy providers. They have me enrolled with two companies at the same time. I found out when company A sent me a disconnect notice for nonpayment. I thought, that's odd, I've been paying through eneegyogre autopay.... I log in to EO and see autopay and current enrollment for Company B. I've been paying two companies. EO apparently messed up my enrollment and got me a new company without dropping the old. They aren't responding to my emails and chats. And every time I call they are closed. read more

There is a huge gap between their statement and the actual service. Very disappointed!! I used Energy Ogre for 3 years. The first 2 years was ok. But it was really bad this year. They did not have any contract secured for me after my existing electricity contract expired. I called few weeks before the contract expiration, and was assured everything was on track. However nothing was in place until I called again, it was already 1 week after the expiration. During the call, there was no good resolution. It did take a long time, but my request to cancel and for a refund eventually reached the right people I suppose and they began calling me and did supply me with a refund spanning back to my initial request. It took time but their customer service was actually really good, they didn't fight me or try to give 1 month or 2, but the entire time was refunded. While this service didn't work out for me, my experience might have been a one off. Since I dont know the persons name , CenterPoint Energy wont give me any information either. I signed up for energy ogre about 3 weeks before my current plan expired. I had to email them a couple times asking what they had found, and they replied and said they were waiting til closer to my renewal date. Then, about a week before my renewal they sent me a bad plan with a terrible rate of .20 per kw/h and a required deposit. I told them I wasnt doing that and sent them that via email and also sent another couple of emails asking questions and they replied to none of these emails. I then sent an email telling em I wanted to cancel my service and they didnt reply to that either. Here is where it gets even better. About a week after ignoring all my emails, including one saying to cancel my subscription, they send me an email saying they signed me up for another plan. Please note that this plan was set up to start 5 days after my current plan expired lol and also had a much higher rate than the plan I went ahead and found on my own after they ignored me the week before. I finally had to call em the next day to tell em I wasnt taking that plan and I also still wanted to cancel my subscription. This cost me about 30 mins of my time on the phone. As bad of a customer service experience as I have had in a very long time. Id stay away, unless you like being ignored and signing up for bad electricity plans. read more

I signed up for Energy Ogre at the recommendation of my father-in-law. My first contract went off perfectly. I signed up for auto-pay and didn't have to worry about a thing. But at the end of my first contract, I got no renewal notices or new provider updates almost all the way up to the end of my contract term, so I got nervous and renewed with them manually. Sure enough, four days later I get the new provider information from Energy Ogre and cancelled the renewal I had done. Now, not even a full moth in, I am having issues. I am still enrolled in auto-pay, but I got a termination notice from my current provider. I contacted both companies and got different replies. My provider said that when auto-pay is added to an account, the first payment is still to be done manually...so I don't think they understood the issue. Energy Ogre though replies and tells me that I still had an outstanding balance of almost $83.00 for my PREVIOUS provider. So how, if I am enrolled in auto-pay, do I have ANY balance left over to any provider, and what does that have to do with paying my CURRENT provider?!? It's impossible to reach anyone via phone because the hold time is so long, and it takes DAYS to get a reply if you email them. This is leaving a very bad impression on me now, and I am about to stop doing business with them if this is the kind of service I get for my money they take every month. read more

The CEO should be fired. Energy Ogre did the exact same thing to us. Instead of the best deal, they set us up with the most expensive (per the representative with the electric provider EO selected for us), .19 per kilowatt!! First bill was over $750!!! Energy Ogre will only sign us up for 12 month plan so they can collect the $120 a year. Which of course in a short contract means we'll pay way more than a 24 or 36 month contract. I would have preferred Energy Ogre sign me up for a three year plan at a much lower kilowatt price AND they could have still charged me the $120 a year fee! That would have been much better than what they are signing people up for with these 12 month contracts. And I do not want to hear Enery Ogre say they can't help what the market does. We understand rates go up - ESPECIALLY IN THESE TIMES!!! Don't send me a response saying this was unavoidable because that's BS. Energy Ogre didn't choose the best rates for their customers because they wanted their $120 a year fee! ENERGY OGRE DID NOT DO THE RIGHT BY THEIR CUSTOMERS! PERIOD. Needless to say I've canceled my Energy Ogre account and found another electric provider on my own for .09 per kilowatt. Had to cancel Enery Ogre account via email since when I called them they had a recording stating everyone was currently in a meeting. What?! Nobody can answer the phone?! They've either lost their way, or were never good to begin with. I've been doing my own research for years and signing up for contracts. Either 3 month, 6 month, 9 month, etc... I was coming up on the end of a 6 month contract, and decided I'd give them a try. While there were 3 and 6 month contracts available for a cheaper rate, they signed me up for a 9 month contract. I thought okay, they've done a comparison to usage and previous rates, and that the more expensive would be better. So I kept watch over the next 9 months. The short term 3 month contracts would have saved me 20%, if I had signed up myself every 3 months. That is what I would have expected energy ogre to do. Well today, I got notification that they were signing me up for a 12 month contract. Significantly more than if I signed up for a 3 month contract (.063 vs .094). No thanks, I'm not going to continue to pay you $10 a month for something like that. I'll go back to doing it on my own. Do your own research, it seems like it is for people who'd rather pay and not have to deal with it on their own. I thought that is what I was paying for. I don't need a 12 month expensive contract. Did they change ownership or management? They were great in the past, but now seem to be losing it. I used the Ogre for several years and they did a great job of keeping me switched into the best rates, setting up online accounts and making sure i had autopay. All while I'm traveling regularly. They usually put me into 1 yr contracts and yes, charged me $10/month, while they waited to do it again the next year. But, this time, they completely messed up my switch and I was days from having my power turned off by the new provider: Our Energy. I use the Ogre because I travel a lot and don't check my snail mail much. It was just pure luck that I found the disconnect notice. Otherwise, i would have returned home from my travels to dead fish in the house and a green pool in the yard. So, I called the Ogre. 10 minutes on hold? Why am I paying these guys? I can be on hold directly with the provider!! What's the point. Point is: I'm moving in May anyway, So I cancelled the service. read more

I let my wife talk me into signing up with Energy Ogre and at first there might have been a slight savings but nothing noticeable. See, I was shopping rates for years by myself and doing fine using the Texas Power website. I was extremely happy with my own research but my wife was insistent that in her previous life she saved tons. What Energy Ogre is good for is for people who had no idea what they were paying for per kwh or let their contract with the good rate expire and never changed companies. In most cases you have to change companies to get a better rate once your contract expires. When it does expire the rate per kwh can double and you wouldn't even notice it probably blaming your high bills on the kids leaving the door open. When the first contract expired EO signed us up for a variable rate plan with Champion Energy that had a base rate of .052 vs my previous rate of .033 which caused a 70% increase in the part of the bill that comes from "Champion Energy". The Oncor rate is the same which is normally about 50% of your bill. The variable rate does get slightly better as you use more power but the first couple of 1000 Kwh you are going to pay big. My bill during the heat of the summer was about $350 on average before the contract change. This past month it was $470 and my kids are all back in school during the day and the wife and I are out of the house at work. Thermostats are set to 85 when we are gone. Energy Ogre is for people that don't know anything about electrical rates or want to spend the time researching it (not very hard btw). The people who like Energy Ogre IMO were getting majorly ripped off before so of course they think EO is great. For a Savvy Consumer it is not a good deal, save your $10. I will do everything I can to get out of my contract with both Champion and Energy Ogre and try not to listen to my wife regarding things I am completely knowledgeable about again. read more

For a reasonable annual fee Energy Ogre shops the most competitive energy rates, signs you up, and you do NOTHING except enjoy substantial energy cost savings. Literally, I get a message from EO that my new provider is (...). I don't have to do any leg work...at all! Magically, my new provider is contacting me, setting up billing details, greeting me, etc. I'm telling you, Energy Ogre handles EVERY detail. Maybe this company can help Some people save money, but all they did was effectively charge me $10 (their monthly fee) to tell me they Couldn't save me money. They give you a chance to Accept or Decline their offer, but you get charged either way. I think this company would leave perspective customers with a better taste in their mouth if they had a "We don't collect until we earn your business" mantra. They essentially promise a better deal and charge you whether they can provide it or not. So they will make money off of you whether you use them or not. (Bottom line: This was a lesson for Me to read extensively prior to opening my wallet. Can't really fault a stranger for taking advantage of me when I let it happen.) I use Yelp a lot to make choices in where I eat and do business so I think it is important to leave my opinion on Energy Ogre. Several years ago my husband said he had heard on the news about how Energy Ogre could save us money on our electricity. I am so busy in my work life and personal life I do not have the time to shop and deal with electricity companies to ensure our light bill is one that I can afford. So, I decided to give them a try... now 3 years later I can't say enough. Since using Energy Ogre my light bill has decreased by at least 1/2 of what it use to be and that is even in August. They take all the guess work out for me and I couldn't be happier to have someone looking out for me for such a minimal fee per month. I am such a happy customer I want to encourage those busy professionals that do not have the extra time on your hands to use Energy Ogre. I will be a life long customer because it is one less thing that I have to do. Thanks Energy Ogre... keep up the good work. (and saving me $) read more
