Prices were great when I started service, but renewal options are not. When I called the customer service number, I had to listen to and decline SEVEN different "special offers" for things like TVs and DirectTV before finally being asked what company I was trying to call...what!? Then it didn't even recognize "Gexa" so I gave up and went to the live agent chat. They were useless and told me to call the spammy number again. Instead, it was almost as high as summertime, explaining I didn't use enough to juice to qualify for my bonus discount. What???? Yes, I see that - but I did not use DOUBLE the amount from the previous month. $300 electric bill for a 1400 sqft house seems outrageous to me. They get rid of the plan you were on every 2-3 years so that you MUST change plans and get a higher rate. Stay away. My house is covered in solar panels, front and back, but my bill averaged over $300 a month. The amount they gave me when they bought my excess energy from my panels was pennies. The billing had no rhyme or reason, just giant bills for low usage. Once TNMP did not read my meter for months. I kept calling Gexa to see where my bill was, and they said there was not one. When the meter was finally read I kept getting double bills about every 2 weeks with a bunch of fees. I had to keep fighting to have the fees removed. I can't read my own meter or force TNMP to do anything. I waited the contract out while getting unexplainable large bills. This company needs to be shut down. I've had service with them for over a year. Unfortunately I didn't receive the emails they said they sent me that my plan was coming to an end. I don't stare at my electricity bill every month, I have better things to do. When my plan ended I was automatically moved to a month to month plan, no phone call, no letter in the mail, just the email they claim to have sent that I never received. They proceeded to double to rate of my electricity cost (over $500 when I almost never break the $200 mark). I contacted them to see if we could arrange a partial refund given I was unaware of the change and over-charges. Also, horrible customer service, always laying the blame on the meter, apartment complex complex, etc. Once I had a $375 bill in a one bedroom apartment and GEXA refused to say anything was wrong. Received a high bill and the math is not mathing. We need to stop using this company and spread the word. No money, no company. I was informed that 3 days of cold weather increased my bill 3x's the amount. I conversed with my neighbors and colleagues and no one else had this issue. Here's the difference between my neighbors, family and colleagues (I live alone with no pets, children or a spouse and work 12 hr days). Again, the math is not mathing. I have no reason to use an extensive amount of energy regardless of what is going on outdoors, and my house is very well insulated. 1 Star because I have been able to get a hold of Supervising Managers. This company lures customers by advertising lowest prices. After a few months of being satisfied with the fair charges, they double the charges without notifying customers. My last nerve was frayed when GEXA Energy, after months of tripling what we really owe, never apologized and credited our account when we called about the discrepancies. They try to resolve the issue by saying they are just noting what Center Point tells them. I asked them to give me the phone number to the Supervisor at Center Point Energy if it was the other company's error, and then was told that they would make a note in my file they save and send someone to check our meter. No technician visited our residential property while we were home. Then, I called yet again to complain about erroneous charges that could not be justified because my husband and I both work Full - Time. I had been working late, and we un-plug appliances when we leave for work and keep all lights off when we are at our respective places of employment. The GEXA Energy Manager replied that he is reading the consumption and according to their file -- that is what we owe. I exclaimed, "You are charging me, a Homeowner of a modest home, like I live in a 3,400 square home with a swimming pool!" I was and still am flabbergasted. The worst part is what just transpired -- we were out - of the country for two weeks, did not have any appliances or electricity running, only to receive a bill in the same outrageously over - charged bill that the charged us the month prior. How does this make sense? To charge a couple for two weeks that they were not using utilities ?? Of course, my husband and I were and still are enraged. Readers beware of this fraudulent corporation. They only uphold their contract until you are happy with the low prices for the first few months, then the over - calculated, unjustified bills start rolling - in the mailbox. Consumers beware. I am a forgiving person, and yet, just this evening opened an e - mail claiming that I owe more than last month when they are refusing to credit my account for the usage we did not use !! This thermostat, unless you tweak the hell out of it, will kick on the ac/heater often (thus raising the utility bill). Later I got solar. EDIT: Gexa has responded to my review and advises customers to carefully read the electric facts label (EFL) to help us better understand what we're getting. Take a look at the EFL I've attached for the plan they're trying to sell me. See how the tiered pricing charges different pricing levels for different parts of usage in the same month? Check out the crazy Excel formula you'd need to calculate the cost of a single month. (See attached photo.) In my case, the "7.4 cents per kWh" they quote for 1,000 hours actually turns into nearly 14 cents per kWh, because nobody uses EXACTLY 1,000 hours of electricity. Gexa, please stop pretending that these overly-complicated EFLs you create are consumable by your customers. They are obfuscated to the point of being nearly impossible to decipher and everyone sees through it. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I am a data analyst, so if there's one thing I know how to spot, it's a company that uses numbers to mislead consumers. I'm talking to you, Gexa! I've been a customer for 1 year because of the PowerToChoose.com rate they offered, which happened to be good. When you want a good electrical plan, go to PowerToChoose.org and search for FIXED plans with a 12, 24, or 36 month contract, and DESELECT THE BOX for showing tiered plans. Those are highly, highly confusing, and intentionally so. In the case of my Gexa experience, they are sending me renewal offers with a big "7.4 cents per kWh" attention-getter on them, then underneath in small letters, "for 1,000 kWh of use." However, Gexa knows EXACTLY how much I use, and that if I were to sign up with this plan, it would actually end up costing me almost DOUBLE their advertised price: close to 14 cents/kWh. The plan Gexa is trying to sell me on would cost me $571/year more than the best plan I found on PowerToChoose. That's because of their tiered pricing. To analyze it properly took me -- an expert data analyst -- 30 minutes to build a tool. That's because analyzing a single month requires breaking that month out across all 3 tiers, the middle of which is more expensive than the lowest or highest tier. It's just all around awful. If you're tired of crap like this being allowed to happen, contact your State Reps and tell them you want to see tighter controls on how electric providers advertise as well as some actual enforcement from the PUC, which ostensibly has had no interest in actually serving the public. read more

f I could give them 0 stars I truly would. I'd just like to say that I had Gexa Energy in the early 2000's for several years without any issues. My bills were reasonable and costumer service was exceptional. I'm not sure if ownership or management changed since, or if Gexa's standards just went downhill in time being but I really am unhappy at the moment. First I'd like to say that as someone who answers phones for a living, it's absolutely unacceptable to leave a customer on hold for over an hour. If call volume is high, you hire adequate staff or pay your current staff overtime to answer phones. Did the standard call center rule of 80/20 go out the window? Set up was quick and fine, also didn't require an hour hold but was answered rather instantly. When my bill was higher than my estimated quote sometime halfway through my contract , I called to find out why. I was told that it's because I was out of contract, which I was not. I asked to speak to supervisor literally five times during the conversation and was told that "none are available and they would tell me the same thing anyway ". I requested a call back and Maria called back. Apparently my bill was higher not because I was out of contract but because I was using less energy. Made sense since it was fall and I didn't use AC much, so I didn't question it and I should have. I now have a $734.59 electricity bill and although after waiting on hold for over an hour and still not getting through to anyone, I received a call back after 9 pm, whatever, I was just glad to speak to someone. The customer service rep was very nice however the issue was not resolved and I have asked to speak to a supervisor, none were available yet again and I have yet to receive a call back. I have requested a supervisor to call me back via email as well. I also asked why I was being charged a different amount per kWh when my contract states that the price is 8.9 cents with usage between 1000-2000 kWh. I was charged 14.2 cents and he explained that because I received a $100 bill credit for usage over 1000 kWh the amount balances to about 12 cents per kWh. 12 cents is still not 8.9 cents that my contract states. I was also told that I will "never pay 8.9 cents " . In actuality I was charged an average of 72 cents per kWh according to my $700+ bill. I was referred to the part of the contract where it says that Gexa can adjust your bill at anytime for any reason, even for their miscalculations, mistakes and faulty meter readings. It's predatory. Very predatory. I have a right to have my account reviewed by a supervisor. And I have requested one at no avail. My next step will be filing formal complaints with both the PUC, BBB and Attorney's Generals Office. I just wanted this issue explained and rectified. I'm not running away from paying bills that I acquired but I like their contracts to be honored and not to feel like I'm being taken advantage of. I live in a 2 bedroom shoebox, not in a mansion to where a $700+ bill is normal. Please read your contracts carefully as there are many loopholes that can be used against you once an issue occurs. I have called Gexa 7 times and each time I have been hung up on, only twice did I get a human on the phone, and both times the call cut out on their part. The other 5 cut out before I could get to a human. I can't cancel online - I was told to call - they make it hard to leave their service even if you are past your contract date. I can't transfer service online without changing my plan, but not all plans are available to "Move" compared to what Is available for new customers, and all of them are confusing... and now that I have been hung up on so many times, I hate this company. I even put my name on a queue for a call back.... and 2 days later when I called back I had to remove my name from the queue to continue calling - 2 days and no call back. TERRIBLE user experience. They shut off my power when I changed providers by putting in an erroneous move out notification to ERCOT. I was not past due on any bills. Not even an apology when I spoke to customer service. Signed up for budget billing, which they think means massively over charging then massively under charging and then sending an $850 'correction' in one bill when they realize their mistake. They said I could pay half and then set up a payment plan, but after I paid half I could never get ahold of them again until I was forced to pay the whole bill or be past due. Later when addressing the lack of communication, they LIED about calling me. I had no incoming calls at all that day and claimed to have called me.
