I want to recognize Mr. Banks from CenterPoint Houston for the outstanding service he provided when he came to our home after we smelled gas. He was absolutely awesome, thorough, professional, and incredibly patient. He checked everything possible to make sure our home was completely safe and took the time to demonstrate how to properly turn on and use our gas stove, something I truly appreciated because I did not know how to do it correctly. He even went above and beyond by checking the neighbors' meters outside to confirm they had all been updated. We have had other representatives from the company come to our home in the past, but they were not nearly as thorough. Those visits were very quick; they came, looked around, and left within minutes. Mr. Banks, however, took the time to carefully inspect everything and did not leave until he was fully confident that we were safe. That level of care and dedication is rare and deserves recognition. Huge congratulations to him for doing his job, and doing it right, to help protect the people of Houston. Absolute clown show. They are monopolistic in nature therefore processes and service are an absolute joke. They let strangers simply call in and change your service information, account name, etc. with no notification to the actual account owner. When trying to to resolve...be prepared to be lied to, given unfulfilled garuanteees and anything else they can do to get you off the phone. They will NEVER call you back when they say they will and they also fabricate account notes to make it even more confusing when we speak to the next person. Absolute worst company to interact with. Centerpoint is short-staffed, poor customer service, and everyone has the same answer. Sorry, and rescheduled. No matter how hard you try to make sure you are waiting for them to arrive, they still manage to say no one was home, no doorbell ring, no knock on the door, no phone call. Just at the mercy of CenterPoint Energy because they are the only game in town, and they don't care. They will schedule an 8-hour window as if that is ok. The sad part about all of this is that it's the weekend and they just casualy say. You've been rescheduled for Monday. Sorry. Customer service! And service. I have multiple addresses on my account as I am handling bills along with elderly people...which I have history of paying for YEARS! I acquired a new address and never received any notifications of the bills. Each time someone was sent out to disconnect the gas the bill was paid. The account was never found online only by phone call. I have called multiple times to make payments and the payments have gone elsewhere and the associates have been very unprofessional about it bc if you are VERIfYING and account that includes the service address especially if one is disconnected or past due. DO NOT SERVICE HERE! Our gas was cut off Thursday afternoon unexpectedly and we had an appointment scheduled the following Friday to get the gas turned back on. We waited over 24 hours for our gas to be turned back on when the technician called leaving no voicemail or direct access number so they cancelled. Now we have to wait until Monday from 8am-10pm to maybe have our gas turned on. They only have contacts for automated systems that connects you with customer service so after finally connecting with a human it doesn't get anywhere since they can't contact technicians either. Epic fail. This company is responsible for electric delivery to one of the largest cities in the nation and they can't follow through? Unbelievable. Hurricane Beryl caused a tree to fall on our property. When it fell, it damaged our home structures, but it also took out the electrical line, our power weather hood and pulled our meter off of the back of our detached garage. i knew it was our responsibility to brace the garage structure and have an independent electrician out to re-install the weather hood and meter so that we could connect to the main power line. We did that. Timeline: *Monday, July 8: Hurricane Beryl bowls through. Major damage to us and others around us. *Saturday, July 13: Electrician arrives on site. Installs a new weather hood and power meter early in the afternoon. *Saturday, July 13 at 6:04 PM: called CP Energy to inform them that there is a downed power line in our yard and our weather hood had been replaced. Was told a crew would be assigned. *Sunday, July 14: called CP Energy at 2:51 PM regarding the downed line in our yard. Was told once again a crew would be assigned, but got a super-snarky attitude from the operator. *Monday, July 15: power is restored to the area, but our line is still down. But now it's a LIVE line. And we have dogs! Called CP Energy again at 5:06 AM. Was once again told that a crew would be out. *Monday, July 15: approximately 9:45 AM, an out-of-town crew arrives to repair downed lines across the street. My husband snags one of the lineman who sees our situation, flips out about the danger and promptly re-connects the line and we have power restored. *Sunday, July 21: filed a complaint with the Texas Public Utility Commission regarding the negligence demonstrated by CP Energy since we had a live line down in our yard. *Late July: receive a call from the PUC to clarify my complaint. A day later, I get a call from CP Energy regarding my complaint. According to the woman I spoke with, there was NEVER a work order generated for our address for a downed line. Absolute incompetence. Three different calls to alert them of a dangerous situation and I'm not even on record as having requested assistance? WOW. Just a big WOW. And then they want a rate increase to recoup their losses. We bought a new house in August 2025, had Centerpoint come out to turn on the gas shortly after. We have had the initial bill with all of our information on it to log in to pay the bill. BUT since then we have not had ANY bill either mail or email. We have called to let them know and they had a service guy come out to verify our gas was on since it was saying it was off on their end. Some how our account is not attached to our house and they have yet to resolve anything. Our gas has been on and working just fine. We have reached out to them regarding the issue and they have NO idea what is going on or won't try to resolve the issue . I have emailed them stating we are not responsible for back charges since this is not our doing and we are coming forward saying we haven't had a bill. Not professional at all! read more

I moved out on my contract end date (10/31/25) and called CenterPoint twice in October to disconnect -- once on 10/6 and again on 10/31, exactly when they told me to. No follow-up questions, no verification, nothing. Both calls were supposedly "handled," yet CenterPoint still billed me almost a month after I moved out, even though the meter shows 0 usage. When I called back, the female manager told me there was "nothing they could do" and refused to escalate it. So here's the truth: you have to do CenterPoint's job for them, because they absolutely won't do it for you. Double-check everything, get names, and protect yourself -- because mistakes on their end become charges on yours. read more

Thanks to the mismanagement of this company, and the Electric "Reliability" Council of Texas (ERCOT), Houstonians have been without power too often, for too long! Certain people say that Texans would rather sit in the dark than have a regulated power grid that's hooked up to the rest of the nation. Those people tend to leave for places like Cancun when the going gets tough around Houston. Those people haven't had to deal with no air conditioning, or a fridge full of rotting food, or a family member who's on an oxygen machine or kidney dialysis. Incompetency costs lives. I've seen the wiring that these people do. It's sloppy. Why do minor storms cause major outages with Centerpoint? Is it because they're unprepared? I've had it up to here with Centerpoint. There needs to be a intervention from the Dept of Energy to do something about all of this. Got an issue with them? They have a toll-free number, but it can take hours to get someone on the phone. Got an issue with an outage? No way to tell what's going on. In fact, people have to rely on Whataburger to tell us what's happening with electricity across Houston, the Energy Capital of the World! read more

The damage to the nature preserve behind me is extensive and what has been taken away from us is priceless. We have made several phone calls to their service department and have not gotten a straight answer on what we need to do. We have been only told that they will send us an email and it will tell us what to do but the service people will not answer our questions. Not much point in leaving a review since this company has a monopoly in the Houston area, so this is mostly to vent. I so wish there were other options around here so this company would be forced to step up and actually provide some customer service. If I could leave negative stars I would. I just bought a new home. I booked my initial appointment to get my gas service turned on online at my realtor's recommendation. Easy peasy, right? Of course, they will only give you an all f-ing day appointment window. Not even a 4-hour window like the cable company, it's any time between 7am and 7pm. So I took the day off from work so I could be home (apparently they think everyone just hangs out at home all the time??). But I got my confirmation email that my appointment was set. At 7:15pm I called them to ask where my technician was, thinking they were just running late. The guy from an overseas call center explained to me that my appointment had been cancelled. When I asked why, he explained that that just happens most of the time when you make an online appointment (what the actual f?!?!), and you need to call in to make an appointment. I asked him why they have the option to make an online appointment if they know the system doesn't work. He didn't have an answer for that, and granted at least this guy was very pleasant and apologetic. But at the very least, someone could have called, texted or emailed to let me know that my appointment was cancelled, so I wouldn't have been sitting around all day waiting for someone to show up. I had to wait 3 days to reschedule as I wasn't able to take another day off from work. Before that day arrived, another CenterPoint technician unexpectedly arrived. He said he was there to "turn off" the gas. I was confused, because I thought I was already off (I wasn't living at the house yet, or I might have known it was still on). Turns out the previous owner hadn't turned it off yet. The tech said he was fine with leaving the gas turned on, and just told me to call on Monday and transfer the account. Yay!! Easy, right? So I called on Monday to transfer my account and explained to the monster of a C U Next Tuesday that answered that I just needed to transfer the name on the account because my gas was already on. She explained that they couldn't do this. I explained to her that it was THEIR technician that had suggested this. Finally, she agreed that someone could just come out and read the meter the next day and transfer the account, and that I didn't need to be there. So, finally, I thought everything was taken care of. I saw the tech come and go on my cameras and assumed all was good. I finally moved into the new place, and was sooo excited after a long day of moving and unpacking to take a nice long shower. But, wait, there was no hot water. Three cold showers later, and my handyman just left after attempting to help me light my gas water heater. I thought there was something wrong with it. When it wasn't lighting, we finally checked the gas meter, and turns out the person who came out "just to read the meter" had turned it off and locked it, reporting that someone needed to be there for a safety check. I'm guessing this is what the rude as f lady who I spoke to on the phone put in the work order and just didn't tell me (she assured me that I didn't need to take another day off of work). If she had simply told me this, or anyone after the fact had called or emailed to let me know what had actually been done during my service appointment, I could have had another appointment made a long time ago. So, I've just put in a call to another dude that I couldn't understand at an overseas call center. I can't take the day off, but don't worry, he said, I'll get a phone call 30 minutes before they arrive (because apparently everyone can just up and say "I gotta go" whenever they get a call in the middle of a work shift?). I'm just praying the call comes after I finish up work and can make it back, otherwise who knows how long I'll be taking cold showers for. So many things are wrong with their systems, from their flawed email booking system to their all-day work windows to their epically bad customer service. Having a simple gas service set up shouldn't be this difficult. I'm sure no one from Center Point actually reads these, they know their customers don't have any other choice but to deal with their crap, but I do feel slightly better now after getting it all out. read more

I had a gas smell coming from my Whirlpool dryer. Had appliance company to do repair, still had gas smell. Called CenterPoint, a technician( Fatmiar) arrived at my home. He assessed the gas line leading to my dryer, as well as my dryer. Definitely had internal gas leak for which I will be contacting Whirlpool. He also checked my other gas appliance(range top had gas leak upon moving into my home, and was repaired at expense of builder), and range top had small leak that I was unaware of for which he repaired. He also checked my water heater and main gas line, no issues. I was very impressed with this gentleman's work ethic, and generally being considerate doing all he could to detect the issue not only with my dryer, but with my range top. read more
