After shopping around and getting quotes from pool guys, my husband and I decided to try to manage our pool on our own. Comparing prices at major retailers and Costco, chemicals and d.e. from Discount Pool Mart were the least expensive. Most pool toys here are cheaper than Amazon as well. Rods and other tools are a toss up with Amazon. Narek is extremely helpful! He's a genuine all-around good guy. He listens, lets us know what we need and thoroughly explains every process. I try to get a better understanding of why the chemicals are needed and how to maintain their levels. He's very knowledgeable and actually takes the time to explain it to me. I ask to avoid rapid declines in conditioner, ph levels, etc. and he explains it all. Our filter was too small for the size pool we had so we ended up needing to purchase a new and larger one. He was able to help us find one that suited our needs and even applied a discount. He noticed that we had to make arrangements to try to bring our truck over to pick up the filter and he offered to drop it off at our house after he closed up shop. He's definitely made managing our pool on our own way easier than it should be. Especially since this is our first pool. read more

I stopped at a Leslie's pool supply because they were closest to my home and they were unfriendly and no help at all. Drove a couple of miles further to Discount Pool Mart next and it was the highlight of our day. Old school mom and pop store. This is the classic super helpful and friendly family-run business. They didn't have the exact pool drain cover I needed (my 45 year old cover was discontinued) so they went out of their way to modify one of theirs to work for me. While we waited their adorable daughter (maybe 5 years old) handed me a note saying 'have a nice day' and proceeded to show off her expertise in the swimming pool supplies....so cute! Small shops like this are the lifeblood of our economy and deserve our support! They only get 5 stars because I can't give them 10. read more

Just bought a house with a pool. This location was the closest pool store. Once you get a pool test kit and check your pool, you suddenly know what parameters are off, therefore what you need to fix the problem. I was in this store at least once or twice a week for the first few months of moving in to my house. When you're in the store that often you start learning a lot plus a lot of Googling. Take note when you go to the store, there are a lot of professionals here, check the parking lot, you'll notice that in their trucks, they literally just have a few cases of liquid chlorine and liquid acid and of course cleaning supplies. Once I figured that out, I started treating my pool the same way they did and it has saved me a lot of money. The people who work here have helped and answered my questions every time, from my personal experience they've been all cool. read more

Very good customer service! Robert was extremely helpful in giving us advice on what to do as a new pool owners. He was very willing to talk us through our situation and gave us step by step tips on how to maintain our pool in the time being while we look for quotes to get it re-plastered and don't have a pool guy. Robert even tested our water for us for no charge. He was knowledgeable and recommended we only buy things that were right for our pool. I walked into Discount Pool Mart and I'm very glad that I did. I drove here from Simi Valley to get honest advice and my neighbor said Discount Pool Mart was the place to go. I was helped my a gentleman named Narek and he was extremely knowledgeable. I was having motor issues and Narek was able to quote me a price on the repair and even gave me the option to purchase a variable speed pump. He told me that LADWP was giving back 1000 dollars for changing the pump but unfortunately since I live in Simi Valley my water and power doesn't cover that. Okay, I have been going here for a few months since they opened and was glad there was a place close to my house. Although I kept going back, I did notice that the customer service has always been awful. I think the worst part is never being greeted or acknowledged by the staff. I understand they can be busy but at least say, "I will be with you in a minute." Today I brought two of the same items up to check out and both had stickers on the box of $11.99. The owner, I don't know his name, added it up and gave me a total of $32 and change. I cocked my head and showed him the $11.99 stickers. He stated they were marked wrong. Again, I cocked my head in confusion. I looked at him and told him to forget it because I was going to go somewhere else. He stated I had no patience and if I would have waited before threatening to go somewhere else, he would have gave it to me for $11.99 each. But now, because I have no patience, I can get out of his store. I advised him that I would be glad to because the customer service is crap. He insisted I had no patience and I insisted the service was crap. He told me again to leave so I said gladly since I'm sick of dealing with idiots. He told me to come back at 6pm when the store is closed to take care of it. Really? You are the owner of the store! I told him we should take care of it right there and then. He sprang from behind the counter so fast and got in my face, pushing his chest against mine while he threatened me. Again, this is the owner. His worker had to come over and get in between us. I may have pissed him off but he is THE OWNER OF THE BUSINESS!! KEEP IT TOGETHER!! He has a lot to learn about business. I don't want to write a review like this but as an owner, he should know better than to get that upset at a customer. Called around and the best price I could get from the pool leak detection mafia was 450 dollars. One company quoted $1500. I think they mistook me for searching for 24kt gold detection. However, this place said they could do it for 350 so I scheduled an appointment and a fellow armo gentleman showed up by the name of hagop. What an honest, sincere, and friendly human being. He immediately checked and said this is highly unlikely to be a leak, saving us leak inspection money and who knows how much in unnecessary digging or repairs, even though our pool guy said it's probably a leak. He asked how much I was quoted, I said 350. He said all I need to do is change a couple parts and 200 will do it yes there are still people like this left in this crook-filled world. I highly recommend their services to everyone. They are fair and honest and will definitely earn my repeat business. He even said if this changing of a pressure valve doesn't solve the issue of our pool not having suction, he will come and take care of it. He said he never leaves any job undone. Fortunately it did solve the problem saving us money and time kudos to this business please give them a call if you need any pool leak detection services, or any pool supplies in general. read more

Been shopping for my routine pool needs here for years; frankly, always take their expertise, friendliness and well-stocked good values for granted...but recently when I purchased a new,high quality Solar pool cover from them, my well-intentioned, but inexperienced handyman, trimmed it perfectly to an exact fit, attached the reel with various straps......and then he left after, unintentionally, mis-installing the cover bubble-side UP (instead of bubble side properly DOWN in the water). I'm 84 years old and couldn't rectify myself....When I informed Discount Pool Mart of the situation, they immediately dispatched two of their staff within 10 minutes, who fully reversed & carefully re-attached the Solar cover correctly..THAT style of personal service is remarkable nowadays and deserves public praise!
