But in cases where negligence or incompetence can be dangerous, I take the time. I hired Andrew to add a new junction box to hang a chandelier in our kitchen. At the time I thought everything worked out great--he came out promptly and did the install while we waited for our fixture to arrive. However, when we prepared to hang the fixture ourselves, I realized he installed an "old work" style box that can't support more than 6lbs and isn't designed for ceiling fixtures. Most people (including me!) would never have known the difference except that I had to switch out another light a few weeks prior and did some research into what equipment I needed. I would expect a licensed electrician to know this, but in good faith I assumed it was a mistake. After a week of texts and phone calls, he finally responded and offered to put in the correct junction box. Then he never showed up for our appointment and quit replying to my messages. That was more than a month ago, so I assume he has no intention of returning. Unless you have the electrical expertise to supervise Andrew's work, I would strongly suggest you hire someone else with more competence and/or integrity. Or be prepared for fixtures to potentially come crashing down on you and your family.

They refuse to give you a cost estimate, no matter how basic the job or how detailed you describe the problem, until you pay them $70 to come out to your house. Dear Yelpers, please please do NOT normalize this greedy practice by giving this company or any company that does this your business. They'll say it's a standard industry practice. It is not. There are many honest services out there that offer free cost estimates and don't try to manipulate you to buy their products. They'll also say the fee is to compensate for the time that the technicians spend coming out, but that's just being dishonest. That $70 sure as hell ain't going to the worker. If they're being dishonest before you even hire them, think about what else they'd be dishonest about. Please stay away. I received quotes from a lot of the top Yelp reviewed electricians and man, even the top rated guys will try and upsell and overcharge. I chose a charger capable of load managing the output during charging, so you won't necessarily be using all 48amps at a time depending on your house's current draw. That allows you to avoid costly panel upgrades. Even after explaining this to all the other electricians who I got quotes from, most of them still tried to upsell. I got one quote for $13,000 to install my EV charger from a well rated 5 star Yelp electrical company. Cee understood right away and was experienced with the Emporia charger. He worked with me on everything I needed, showed up on time and did the job quickly and cleanly. He dealt with the permits and inspection as well. I consider myself pretty handy and do quite a bit of DIY, I trust Cee and his honesty in the work he did and what he charged. That's tough to find in tradesmen and what makes him so valuable.
