Subscribers BEWARE. I'm a victim of a bait and switch advertising. The advertisement that I responded to was 89.99 per month for "Choice Package". When I received my first bill, it was higher than the advertised quote. Not only was it higher, but they are now trying to add a optional service maintenance charge of $9.99 per month. We called and made an appointment to have our satellite dish realigned because we needed a new roof. We had an appointment on Monday from 11 to 3 and the tech never showed up. He never called. And never was on the property because we have cameras all over. Then when I try to get some customer service, they only have 'offshore' representatives to speak to. So now my 84-year-old mother has not had TV since Saturday and DIRECTV is doing nothing about technician that canceled our appointment. Of course they site not having enough techs. I've been with Direct Tv well over 20 years. Last night I attempted to watch "Everybody Loves Raymond." Because of my plan it does not cover this old outdated show. In essence, we are paying these large cable companies to watch "commercials" for health insurance, bathroom remodeling, gaming and how to gamble and shopping. There is very limited programming other than local channels and outdated re-runs. Those of us paying these high bills must let these companies know how we feel and how they are robbing us blind. For the past two weeks my receiver started giving me a message that it was overheated and needed to cool off. The messages became more and more frequent and it started taking the box longer and longer to cool down and even when it did it did not stay in working order for long. There was nothing obstructing the vents and I was getting pretty aggravated. I contact customer service finally and let them know what I'd been going through. She said it was probably a faulty fan inside. Understandable being I had had the box 6 plus years. I was already plotting my Netflix play list while I wait the 5 business days for my new box to arrive. I was completely shocked when I opened the front door at 10am the next day (today) and found a DirectTV box sitting on my porch. I even started to question myself- I did just call yesterday afternoon right? Had I been sleep for five days? I am very pleased and happy to have my new box in such record time. Being people "of a certain age" and having lived in many places thanks to the United States Navy, we've had our share of experiences with various paid television providers. We've had service from Prism (remember Prism, Philly folks?), to Falcon, Cox, Time Warner, Comcast, the list goes on... So, the bar for getting a one star review is pretty darn low. DirecTV managed to hit that low. Not with their service - the selection of channels is fine, pricing is in line with everyone else, etc. No, they hit that low when their HD DVR box fried our pretty nice darn new TV. Then they denied that it did. Twice. Never mind that only the TV and the DVR blew, and at the same time. Nothing else plugged into the same surge-protected power strip blew. Never mind that there were no electrical storms. Ignore that the factory-authorized technician documented that the TV was damaged by a voltage surge through the HDMI port, not the power cord. Ignore that their own representative told us that the HD DVR boxes have a known voltage problem. Nope, the TV and DVR just happened to blow up at the same time because of a supposedly faulty power outlet that didn't blow up anything else and managed to surge to only the DVR box and TV without tripping the surge protection or damaging the 3 other things plugged into the same strip and outlet. Amazing. It requires some suspension of the principles of electricity, and a belief in magical thinking. Of course, they told us if we had bought their $20 a month insurance to protect our TV from their faulty equipment, we would be covered. Yah, no. She was over talking me so how could she possibly hear what I was saying. She continuously addressed me by calling me Sir. I had to correct her multiple times to tell her that I was a female and how rude she was. She replied "Don't hold that against me". When we signed up, we were told we would get the big 10. Today when we went to watch it, we did not have it. We called Direct TV and was told yes we should be getting the big 10. They would trouble shoot it. After almost an hour on the phone we were told no it is not part of our package, but for another $15.00 a month they could add it. I asked to speak to a supervisor and after being on the phone for 55 minutes we were disconnected. I called back and had to start all over again! After another hour of talking to someone and being on hold waiting for a supervisor, I told them I will be calling back when our contract is done and will be going elsewhere. Directv does not resolve issues since AT&T took over. I used to love them. Now, they transfer you at least 4 times. The representatives do not communicate with each other so you have to keep repeating your name and your issue. They lie saying they will take care of your issue and charge you for services that you did not use. When your account is closed, they make you go through all of these people who do not handle closed accounts. They keep you on hold for 1 hour and 5 minutes and counting, this time, the last time was at least 1 hour+. The representative kept repeating, "I am here for you. I will get this resolved." Meanwhile, I was transferred again. Have no cable at all even if this is the last resort. It is not worth the aggravation. AT&T has horrible customer service and they have tossed Directv straight into the toilet!!! Today I got an email from the Manager of the Office of the President at AT&T-DirecTV and with one call that lasted 22 minutes, my issue was resolved. I have been a loyal DirecTV customer for more than 18 years. Recently, I received another price hike bringing for monthly fee for TV only to $132.00 with Zero extras. For this I get 25 infomercial channels, serval non-english speaking and music channels that cut in and out. With this said, enough was enough!! I canceled my service with DirecTV but not without one last parting gift.. Since I canceled my coverage after I began a new billing cycle....they refuse to prorate my bill, therefore making me pay for the entire month. AT&T has been the demise of DirecTV! Very few reviews that speak to the mediocrity of a company...you either want to compliment them for their excellence, or hammer them for being lying louts. I paid my account in full, cancelled the account, and yet they still bill me even though they could easily validate that I've not used their service for weeks. I've asked them to cancel my account multiple times...each time our line of communications mysteriously fails. I'm "re-qued"...they'll "call to cancel"...their special "cancellations" team will get back to me. After less than six months and 2 rate increases, they finally decided to notify customers that they had increased billed amounts yet again, but two weeks prior to the notification! Comcast arrived at my home to install, when I was notified that I would have to drill wholes in floor to run the cable wires I decided to look at other options first. Before preceding the installer allowed me to call Direct Tv to inquire about wireless service. I informed the Direct Tv rep that I had comcast standing by and I needed a quote from their company for wireless cable, internet, and home security. I was happy with quote given. Installation was scheduled for the next morning. The technician arrived without wireless routers. When I called Direct Tv to correct the situation. I was then told after being on hold for a hour their would be additional upfront free of $150. I decided to switch to direct tv this summer because I wanted the Sunday ticket, they are the only providers offering it. The week my services were activated the on demand stopped working. I contacted direct tv and the customer service person was fairly helpful. I was able to get titles back up and working within about Ten minutes and I just attributed the error to a glitch as it was new. One day later It was our again I called back another person reset everything it was again working. 2 days later guess what? It was out again this time I put off calling because I was busy and had finished the show I was watching. I tried in two months later thinking maybe it started working! No, it did not. I called back I got another person who showed me how to reset it and this time it worked for a week and then it went out again. I reset it like they showed me everyday it allowed me to watch One show then it would go out again. I called back again this time I told the agent I had it and he needed to something to make this right. He said he would help me fix my service and wanted me to go through same steps I had already done 100 times on my own. I expressed that I had already done this and I wanted new equipment. He told me that it was my internet thats the problem! I explained there is nothing wrong with my internet, I use it all the time on multiple devices throughout the house and even the direct tv software says my internet was running at 4K speeds. He said he didn't know what that meant. I told him I was 100 percent positive it was not my internet I watch Netflix stream movies play online games often me my daughter and my fiancé are all in different rooms and there is no lag! He said well the direct tv uses too much for your internet. I said you're telling me that you're direct tv box uses so much internet that I can't even make it through one show? Then he said well what shows are you watching? I explained I was watching game of thrones he said, oh then it's an HBO issue! I said are you nuts?! Done pass the freaking buck to them!!! I tried Direct TV about 4 years ago, I had it for about 1 week before canceling my services. I was promised an On-Demand system "same as Comcast, if not better". Long story short their On-Demand services were the absolute worst, the movies would load every minute or so and you could never watch anything. Back then, it took me about 3 HOURS to cancel my services after I was magically disconnected 15 TIMES!! So needless to say, a couple days ago, I was skeptical at best when re-signing up for Direct Tv. But I decided to give them another chance since they were now owned by AT&T and had improved a lot since then according to them... Let me start by saying that, the first thing they ask you is, "Why are you switching over to DirecTV?" When I told them my concerns about my current company, they continue to use completely unethical business practices and bash the company I was with and proceed to tell me a million and one ways that they are better than them. So today was the day for installation, and they didn't even make it through the installation this time around before I canceled! When I first called to sign up for the service I was going to sign up for the DirecTV and Verizon package. I first spoke to a representative that signed me up for an all-inclusive package he promised me the same speed as Comcast for my Internet, 150 Mbps. As well as six receivers for free, all the premium channels for three months, would be an extra $30, he also promised me the best service available, as well as $100 visa gift card. Charge that was going to be applying to the credit card that I gave him was $21, installation was free with my 24 month contract. So the technician arrived and started installing everything, ran the lines for DirecTV, and drilled the holes in my house. After he installed 4 receivers his work came to a halt. The sales rep put my work order in incorrectly, they put two of the six boxes in as a Direct-TV ready box. Easy fix right? The tech's dispatcher informed him that he could not give me the last two receivers unless I paid $198 for them. This then led to me being transferred to customer service, to sales, to orders pending, to technical support, and finally to retention. By the way, it took 13 different transfers, 6 of which were supervisors, to finally get me there. After arguing with every single person the resolution was this, either pay $198 up front, or pay $14 a month per box (which they talked so much trash on Comcast for). So guess what? I canceled my services and demanded a refund. SCAM ARTISTS at their finest, BUYERS BEWARE!!! When I told them to check the "secure recorded line" that they kept mentioning throughout my transaction, they said that it was only for "quality control" and they don't have access to it. Not only that, but they proceeded to blame everything on Verizon, hmmm, more unethical behavior, how wonderful! Don't waste your time, energy, or money on their services! read more

Literally the most terrible TV satellite service ever. We have satellite so we usually understand if there's issues with the signal. But currently the weather is perfectly clear and our signal is in and out simply because the signal is terrible and so is this company's customer service. I won't even waste my time calling them since every time we have they've made us jump through hoops. Get your TV from ANYONE else. We received a call tonight stating that we are valued customers and that DTV was providing Showtime for free. My wife did not agree or consent to the solicitation. I arrived home to an email stating that our account has been updated. After speaking with a CSR Mike and advising that we did not ask for a new charge or package; Mike proceeded to sell me Showtime at a discounted rate. This identifies that this practice is too common. After several minutes of avoiding the questions I asked for her manager and he proceeded to offer to remove. We have been DTV customers for 13 years and ATT customers for 10 years. This unethical business process will be reported to the FCC and FTC. Since The original update; there have been two additional fowl practices. My December and January bills came completely opposite from what I was advised. I requested to upgrade my equipment in November and was promised a $30 reduction in my bill AND since I am a loyal customer DTV offered 12 month free HBO Cinemax and The Movie channel. instead of dropping my bill increased $40. On 11/22 Order confirmation 278012635 Andrew and Jimmy confirmed the package offering. I called in December and after a runaround was advised that they will adjust and credit the account per Martin. In January the same issue with the bill. I wasted TWO hours on the line with DTV abroad. On 1/16/18 I waited with a rep who connected me to Pinky her supervisor, after a while she hung up. I called back and went through it again with Charmaine. All this runaround I was transferred to customer retention for AT&T mobile. That rep finally waited w me and connected me Joyce who was located domestically. She apologized for all of the runaround finally helped me and resolved the issue. Freaking joke! They charge $5 if they verbally take a payment. Updated all my info online only to have the balance not automatically charged to my card, updated my phone number. Called customer service, because I'm calling from work it brings up a business account, spoke to rep who couldn't bring up account - because he's from INDIA he can't understand the American alphabet because I spelled it 3 TIMES!!! The phone number I updated online didn't take in their system, neither did my new card info. Gave it to him, he tells me if he takes the payment it's $5, transfers me to automatic pay only for it to read the number I'm calling from AGAIN which is a business and pulls up the wrong acct info, once again automated system couldn't bring up my acct by phone because even though it was updated twice now it's STILL NOT IN THERE, had to transfer to a rep again which started the whole process of trying to bring up my acct again, because ONCE AGAIN you reach India and they don't understand how to spell in english.....vicious cycle took up most of my lunch. Hopefully resolved. NOTE TO DIRECT TV: sometimes technology is NOT A GOOD THING. HIRE AMERICANS! When we call we want to reach an American or at least someone who can spell in english. I still stand behind my original review as reaching and actually making progress with customer service is a joke. I might also add that it's difficult to navigate their website as well, as all the account changes I needed to make were done online first. Direct TV relies on technology for ever y aspect of their customer service which is frustrating if you are calling from somewhere other then home. This has been a huge problem for folks like my elderly father who doesn't have the skill or access to the internet. Direct TV charges $5 if they have to make a change via telephone which I feel is discriminatory against the poor, elderly, or anyone in general that just doesn't have access to online services. As far as the service itself, I have a mid grade package but most of the channels consist of infomercials or music. Unless you are familiar with programming the remote you will need to scroll thru a lot of junk to find something to actually watch. The remote is also not compatible with a lot of tv models. When I signed up for service I was told it was only a select few models, however I own 5 tvs, three of which are newer models and the installation technician was not able to get any synched so we still must use 2 remotes to control each of our 5 TV's which is a hassle. As for the installation of the dish itself I was told that the utmost care would be taken to ensure a proper installation. Only when I had my roof serviced did I find out that no flashing or caulking was installed to prevent water from leaking around the screws. I had to pay my roofer additional funds to safeguard the dish and install it properly. I was also mislead upon my initial installation that rarely does the service go out. It ALWAYS goes out, with every rain or wind storm like clockwork, sometimes for hours on end. Calling customer service for an adjustment does no good as they are unwilling to work with you and issue a credit regardless of how long service has been interrupted. Also the price has gone up dramatically in the 3 years I've been a customer. With this being said and with my latest frustrating experience with customer service I am for sure going to switch to Comcast. read more

I had three accounts with them and never bought or new how to buy a movie on the system yet they are charging me for movies which I never ordered, watched or bought. I called to set up Service and the experience was pleasant. I specifically mentioned that I needed the internet bundle repeatedly and was repeatedly assured by the sales associate that it was available in my area . I signed up and was told that AT&T would have separate installing day for the internet . The Tech came the very next day to install the DirectTV . If was working fine. I asked the tech about the internet and he told me to call . I called later and after some time on the phone found out that there is no internet service in my area. I told them then I didn't want it unless it had an internet bundle . I was passed to another service Rep who told me about their early termination fee. I told them I wasn't paying for it . After 2 hours of negotiating they dropped the fee . I ended up paying 32 dollars total for a weeks of Direct TV . read more

Direct Tv setup my account for HD service but never completed the internet portion of the bundle or added what I requested to my contract but they did set me up with a new 2 year contract. If I could give them less stars, I would. I was a customer for 8 years. After they upped my bill by over 30 bucks this last month I asked what they could do. They offered me 5 bucks off my bill. When I told them I wanted to know what would be involved in disconnecting they told me just an equipment return. My husband and I have used DirecTV for several years. A few years ago we moved to a new home and had to upgrade to the wireless genies for all rooms. We still had the old genies from our last house when the technician came to upgrade and install in our new home. He did not take the old receivers with him after installation. Two years later, I am looking over our ridiculously high DirecTV bill (having taken over the payment from my husband I was curious) to find out that we were still being charged for the old receivers on top of our new receivers and had been charged $21 extra per month for the last 20 months. I called DirecTV to report the overcharge and was told I would receive a refund of $420 after I mailed back the old receivers. I mailed them back and never received my refund. One month and several phone calls later they are now telling me I am not entitled to the refund since I didn't notice the overcharge until now....they then offered me $40 in credit for their mistake....terrible customer service. Unacceptable behavior and just plain bad business. DirecTV has lost my business forever. We live in Lancaster and unsure the location of the AT&T Direct TV office is that serves us. About 2 years ago we chose to use Direct TV which involved installing a dish on our roof. In early October a service technician came at our request to adjust the dish so we can get better reception. This corrected the issue. This week the audio started not working intermittently. We requested a service tech correct this problem. My husband had already noticed the dish was not secure-- one bolt was completely out and another was loose. We also noticed one of our cedar shake shingles was broken. I called a Direct TV Retention specialist. When I told him the problem he said we could submit a damage claim. He also mentioned the technician who serviced our dish earlier in October noted in his report our dish was installed on a cedar shake roof which is apparently is not allowed! My question I why was our dish installed on a cedar shake roof and why didn't the Direct TV Tech inform of us this wrong doing? read more

Cancellation of the 24 month contract is $20.00/month. Payments are deducted automatically from a CC they have on file, without authorization to do that they will add an additional $10/month administrative fee. There is NO chance of changing any of this. Their customer service is like talking to a wall---they simply do not care. Cut your package---no that won't help either--we have the lowest level; even at these prices. Buyer beware---but I am going to give them as much bad press as possible in the hope of causing others to be more prudent and run the other way. read more
