Don't sign up for Directv! Anything but Directv. They are horrible and the service is the worst. My receiver has been automatically rebooting itself several times a day, each time it leaves my tv useless for about a good 15 minutes. It's so frustrating! I've called customer service and constantly get transferred so each time I speak with a different agent, I'm retelling my problem over and over again. They eventually sent a technician to take a look, but he takes one look at my satellite dish and tells me that it's an old model and he can't perform any services without replacing the dish to a newer model first. But get this!! He could add the new dish to my roof but he can't remove my current dish!! What the hell am I suppose to do with 2 dishes?? Why would I want more holes drilled into my roof?? I asked him to leave because it's quite obvious he was wasting my time. I called customer service again to gripe and they said they'd send me a new receiver to see if that'd fix my problems, but that I'd have to handle the installation by myself and drop off my current receiver to FedEx. No apologies, no remorse, no understand, POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I had to argue to get some sort of credit on my account, and to make matters worse, they would offer me credit only if I signed on for another 2 year contract! WTF! I'm done. I'm switching. ***beware people*** Oceanic Installers hear it all and I've heard it from them about all the horrible things Direct TV does that makes people go back to Oceanic. My dad got Direct TV service without consulting me and at the end of it all, Direct TV has lived up to the nightmare stories I have heard. And as a current DirectTV customer, I will say the customer service is horrible. Happy to put the dish on there but when it comes time to take it off you will get the run around - literally. My dad spent hours between Texas and the Philippines trying to get the local office or provider. Never happened instead he was transferred back and forward. We are moving and Direct TV said they cannot take the dish off - the new rental person has to say they want don't want it and then they'll take it off. ???? We are paying for 2 months of no service to complete the contract even though the homeowner's association said dishes are not allowed. Direct TV's response was "we have a way around that." Really ???!? We don't have time for such nonsense. People really save yourself the heartache and money. Keep a sharp eye out for your Kupuna - don't let them get suckered. Non-existent not 'Bad' support services Let me preface this review with the fact that I have been a long time at&t & Direct TV now customer. I currently have both subscriptions: AT&T & direct tv now (online tv). I'm just now finding out that direct tv & its Parent company don't consider its online TV product the same thing & therefore not worth providing phone support for it. Now outsourcing your phone support to a another country is one thing but not providing phone support at all for your product is entirely another. Apparently, my account info isn't even available to the phone representative at "inDirect TV" I spoke with and he could not help me. I'm told that there is "currently" no phone support with an actual human being for Direct TV now. Phone support for AT&T= yes, Direct TV= yes, Direct TV Now= nope. Note to AT&T: If you want to own & merge multiple Phone/TV companies you need to properly staff and run the support services for them. AT&T has been our go-to for mobile phone service and up until our most recent visits we have been very satisfied with. Of great concern to me is that we were told by one of the employees that AT&T will be providing a higher level of service to their customers who have a DirecTV plan with them. We tried it for a month ($35), and to get the free Roku TV Stick/App. We understood the contract to include Showtime, HBO and other premium channels--it did not. I believe that the marriage between AT&T and DirecTV is a VERY bad business decision and I predict that if AT&T provides better service to customers who have DirecTV, AT&T will lose many customers along with 100's of millions dollars. Sorry to say, DirecTV is absolutely the worst TV/Cable/Streaming service provider out there. It takes a long time to load just about anything, no fast forward and if it drops out of a show/movie I have to watch them from the beginning, and we get errors saying our network is too slow or not connected when no other streaming service (Netflix and Amazon Prime Videos) we use has ever had any issue unless our 100Mbs (never get more than 4XMbs) Spectrum. To logon and manage anything in my account, they required me to logon several times with identical information to verify my service with AT&T and them. Lastly, I paid $35/month for lowest grade service and had to sit through a ridiculous amount of commercials for everything--WTH?!? I canceled our DiecTV Service today. read more

Wish I could give zero stars. Directv does not reuse or recycle their satellite dishes. They don't help the customer haul it away or anything. Once you stop the contract with this company, you are stuck with a HUGE satellite dish in your yard. It is the ugliest thing ever. I wish we had never signed up with them. I was told that you can call the Hawaii Directv number and they will take it away. We called the number and had to go through an automated menu of about a 100 options which sent you back to the mainland number. We could not even speak to a real person. Even when we had service with them (which is not cheap to begin with even for the basic package), there were so many problems with the service. Calling their help number was no help at all. Their packages suck too as they offer a ton of channels that you would never watch. You cannot select the channels you wish to watch. I am so glad we have stopped our contract with them - never again. Sad that we have to add more to the landfill with their gigantic satellite dish. It takes a while to really use the DIRECTV system and find out how awful the service is. To order a pay-per movie, each and every time you have to text or call or go onto their website and it often does not work or the movie starts 30 minutes into the movie and so you have watch through and then watch again to catch the beginning of the movie AFTER you have finished watching the ending! Weird. Then if there is a glitch and there are OFTEN glitches, your account gets charged, but you cannot watch the movie. If you don't call within 5 minutes, then you cannot get a refund. Calling for help wouldn't be a problem if you could get help, but there is not an option to actually talk with a real person and so you are lost for 10 minutes or longer in voicemail hell. Then you might get a busy signal with the pre-recorded message that tells you they are just too busy right now? I often had to hang up and call repeatedly and go through their automated voicemail hell again, trying to figure out how to find a live customer service person. How about hiring people to take care of the clients they are selling their service to!? What an original thought! Also, BE AWARE, their customer service operators are located in the Philippines. I for one am very tired of speaking to foreign based customer service. If the service is provided in the US then the customer service should be located in the US. Oh yeah and if it rains, your service will go out. It's a sun shiny day type of service, meaning that is the only times it works uninterrupted. read more

Direct T.V. has really improved over the years. They continually give us discounts on our package which helps a great deal. We don't watch that much T.V. I would still be careful if they still offer the football package, at the time it wasn't a good deal. However, I'm not a football fan. The last technician did a very good job on fixing the satellite dish. However, the worker that put in all the wiring and set up didn't use stainless steel screws, so they rusted out on the outside of my house. Had to have it all redone. Luckily the constructor didn't charge me. Its been a few years but you should check to made sure your workers are using the right materials when installing equipment. read more

I live in Hilo where it rains, a lot. Oftentimes, I get no reception. One day I called the correct number, for billing. This woman with a foreign accent, told me to call, this other number. It was a number to help set up inmates, in a correctional facility. Then when I called back the correct number, I kept waiting and waiting. Due to the time difference, on the east coast versus Hawaii, Direct TV was closed.. No recording, told me this..It sure would have been helpful! read more

UPDATE: Within 1hr of posting this review, Directv was here to troubleshoot our system. The repairman found a bad module. He was a very nice man and also replaced the module on the back also. So far so good. Directv knows their service has a major error. They still charge customers full price even though the service has been acting up all month. DVR isn't even recording shows properly. Had a chat with Directv this morning and they asked that we wait a few more weeks. I really can't believe it. They also said wait until they fix their problem and then they may consider giving us a discount afterwards. I don't agree with this at all. Considering going back to cable. Husband is upset because we pay for the NFL package and he wasn't able to watch many of the games. What a waste of money. read more

We were introduced to Directv in December 2017. When we went into the AT&T in Ewa. We talked with a girl named Kiara who pushed us to try Directv and that we could cancel at any time. She promised all the channels plus more. When we found out it didn't cover local sports we canceled. A month later we noticed a charge from them and got into a heated discussion with Directv and At&t Kiara told my wife too bad you agreed. We told them to cancel (see my At&t) review. Ten months later and my wife noticed that they've been taking money out of our charge card every month. Talking to them again. Sounds more like a SCAM then a mistake. OK, let me just say that we started w/this company on the mainland because we were in an area that did NOT have a cable company. Yeah, those pockets of Nothingville still exist. There is a two-year contract. So when we moved back home, we were S-T-U-C-K w/it. That said, let me tell you that if you can avoid this company, do so at all costs. Why? 1. The cost: it's pretty d*** expensive for a regular package. Even with the "discounts" (more on that later), you're paying over $70 a month for the basic package, after all those fees and taxes. Not so cool, because you're also stuck with a dish that looks like you're part of the SETI project (calling ET, anyone? More on that also later.). There is no pro-rating, if you want to stop any service at any time. And there are no refunds for the time that lapses between when you contact them and when they actually take action to stop service on something. Not cool. 2. Nickel-and-diming you: There are fees for things you DON'T do, as well as for things you actually do. For example, there is a fee if you don't sign up for automatic billing/debiting from your savings/checking account. There is a fee for your receiver, a fee for the ability to rewind a show, and a fee for installation. There is a fee to move service, There is a fee to suspend service. There is even a fee to restart service. And check this out, people: if you suspend service for, say, 2 months (if you travel for a living and are away, for example) and are in the middle of one of their famously hawked "discounts", the discount clock still keeps ticking! Yes, if you're signed up and are supposed to get $10 off a month for the 1st 12 months, for instance, but have to suspend service in month 6, your discount clock keeps ticking even though you don't get service at all. So you really only get a discount for 10 months--BUT YOUR 2 YEAR CONTRACT CLOCK STOPS DURING THE SUSPENSION, so you get to pay full price or more for 2 extra months. 3. Being a teeny-tiny division of NASA: The dish. The dish. The freakin' huge, blindingly white, secured with lag bolts the size of a pro wrestler's fingers on your roof, dish. It's ugly. It's damaging to your roof. It's gonna make your neighbors mad. And you gotta go with it. On the mainland, the dish they use is a tiny, discreet little thing that looks like a kindergartener's umbrella. The reason I got for the giant satellite dish is that Hawai'i's location forces them to install this dish. Yeah...I dunno. Technology is a funny thing, but this stuff seems right out of the "brick car phone" era. I have no proof of anything, but I suspect that they're just sticking Hawai'i folk with the old tech that no one on the mainland wants to use anymore, but Directv can't quite bring themselves to get rid of. 4. Ghost installation?: When I called to restart service/end the suspension, I was told that we would not be able to get an installation appointment for about 3 and a half weeks (WHAT?). AND in order to even schedule an installation appointment, I'd have to start paying for service right now. So as I sat there on the phone and thought about paying for 25 days of service I was not getting, it felt a little Twilight Zone-ish. I repeated it to her: So in order to get service, I have to pay for service I'm not going to receive? The lady on the phone said I could call back after installation and request a credit back to my account for the days between starting to pay for the service and actually having any service, though. (Again, WHAAAA?) Yeah, once they've got you stuck in a contract, you're screwed. It's not good. The channels are OK, but nothing great. That NFL football package they're advertising ain't all that. The only real bright spot: the installers here are super nice, and very respectful of where you live. They really try to make the wires and cables they have to lay down neat and inconspicuous, which was much appreciated. In the end, it's like most things here--local people rock, mainland customer service lines suck. And mainland company policies really, really suck. Bottom line: AVOID, AVOID, AVOID getting stuck in a contract w/this company. I know there are massive complaints about Oceanic, for a variety of reasons. But hey, at least w/Oceanic, you don't have to worry about getting that crank call from Mars. read more

***PLEASE SHARE*** To Whomever May Be Reading This, My husband and I have been greatly displeased with the service we've been provided for the past 14 months with Directv. It has been a complete headache for us as the company's representatives are incapable of neither explaining anything to its customers or willing to help. Here are the awful instances we've had to endure with them over the phone just these past few months. The first issue we had with the company was just after our one-year mark. I realized online that our bill had significantly gone up--almost twice what we normally pay. It was unclear on our monthly statement what exactly went up on our charges. I called for an explanation, and the lady over the phone who was assisting me said it was because we paid for pay per view. She did not disclose to me that we also lost our credits after our first year mark. I had called the next month to question again why our bill was so high, and a gentleman finally described to me our package now would cost the original price without those discounts. I feel deceived that that information was not told to me in the first place and was overlooked or possibly withheld. We immediately switched to a cheaper package we could afford. The second issue we had with Directv was during our move. The military base we lived on charges for satellites on the premises of the homes that service members rent if they are left or not removed on move out. We called customer service and were told that we would have to personally take out the satellite and can throw it away. We would be receiving a new one anyway. The day before my husband and me moved off base, we had the most difficult time trying to dig out the satellite. The company should have someone come out to do this work for its customers. I nearly pulled out my back. We also had to unscrew the connection line that ran all the way on the outside of our house into the living room. Once we had gotten the satellite dug out of the ground, nearly an hour process, on transporting it to the trash, my husband fell back and noticed the line from the satellite was also hooked to our next-door neighbors home. We live on a split property and were not told we shared this satellite. This action took out their cable and they of course then became upset. Our neighbors never knew of this connection either. When we called to complain, the only compensation we were offered was a no charge for adult showings on their channels. As a married Christian couple, we were greatly offended and flabbergasted. I find this proposal ridiculous--its like "sorry for you displeasure, here is some free porn for you to forget about our mistake." Thirdly, my husband and I both talked to individuals separately with customer service before we moved from our old home. We asked -and it was clearly explained to us- that we would not have to pay for service during the 12 or so days we needed to move into our new home and wouldn't have a TV. We don't use our computers or phones to watch cable and were too busy moving in anyway. Once we settled into our new home, the person the company sent over to put in our new satellite and equipment said he had his hands tied and told us we could not get cable at our location. We live near a mountain and have no line of site for the receiver. That would have been nice to know beforehand. I had to take off work just to be told this bad news from the company, which could have easily been avoided. I would think such a huge name company would map or keep track of locations where its services cannot be provided so situations like this would not occur for its new or relocating customers. After the fact, when I called to terminate our contract that day, a representative again reassured me and gave me verbal confirmation we would get out of our contract free of cost and receive our refund from the time we moved out of our old place. However, when the report finally came in the next day and I had to call them again to end the contract, the first person I talked to tried to tell me that we would have to pay an early termination of contract fee. I was firm in telling her she was wrong. I was then switched over and given to another representative who said they would not charge us for the end of contract, however we would still be billed from the 28th of July to the 11th of August. I told him our situation and what other representatives promised us. He would not do anything to help and advised me we'd be receiving the bill as well as a box to return the equipment--which he was about to send to the wrong address if I hadn't corrected him. I have never been so disappointed or frustrated with a company ever before. After this event, as you can imagine, I asked to speak with someone from the corporate office. The representative would not give me an address, phone number, or even email for me to contact them. Instead, he tried to have me fill out a billing issue report online. The service I received with Directv was wonderful while I was still a subscriber. It is hard to beat the Sunday Ticket for football with two kids at the house. 200 dollars a season is nothing compared to having to truck a family of four to a restaurant/bar in order to watch the Buffalo Bills get trucked season after season. I was excited to wallow in misery on my own couch for change! The problems started AFTER I tried to cancel our service due to moving and not being able to get a signal. It took 5 months of angry phone calls and disputing bills before they finally cut me a check and said sorry for being bad at our jobs. So if you're looking for a dish service for the rest of your life and will never under any circumstances change providers, this is the company for you, but for everyone else, keep looking. read more

I cannot rate Directtv reception or service. I can only tell you about the phone conversation with the customer service rep I spoke to on the phone. I called the 888 number on a Sunday paper flyer for information about cost and installation. I spoke to some one named Abraham who read a list of questions to me. I reluctantly answered name address and phone number. Everything changed when I wouldn't give my SS #. He said he just wanted to go check my credit to save me the $300+ for installation. When I told him I was going to hang up, he responded that he was a trustworthy hard working boy. He seemed to know nothing about DirectTV except getting peoples personal info. Called yesterday for information on their rates. I noticed on the internet it said Direct Tv gave up to 55% discount for seniors. Had my husband call and he was given a rate with a senior discount and the Ultimate package we wanted. Ok they said our monthly rate was after discounts around $80+. Installation was quick they came today. During installation we were told we have the choice package and no movie channels. We the Ultimate package so my husband calls again and finds out there was no discounts and they gave us the choice package with did not have my favorite channels like Nat Geo Wild or FX or FX movie. Oh and it would cost us $125 a month way more than my cable with Spectrum. I thought we would be saving money not paying more. They never gave us complete price with tax and fees or we would have known it was more than what was quoted to yes. We cancelled them same day. They said they would wave the cancellation fee but who knows they may still charge us because we got nothing in writing and my husband never gets the name of the customer rep. Their advertising is deceptive and each time you call you get someone different and one doesn't know what the other person said. Very unhappy. If I could drive a zero rating I would. They spend more time trying to,sell you more product or bundle services,than,trying to,help you with why,you,called them. Directv is HORRIBLE! Turned on the TV and out of the clear blue-no service! Call the technical service (after dealing with their disgusting "try this" "try that" "press this" robot prompts!) and finally got a human who expected me to do their troubleshooting for them! I am not their service personnel! Directv couldn't help as they are doing 'routine maintenance' so can't remotely check the equipment--I was told to call back in 2 hours! It's 9:00pm--I'm not staying up to work around their maintenance schedule! And, because of their maintenance, they can't make a service appointment, they can't put in an order for a new remote, they can't do a darn thing. I paid for TV (including HBO) but do not have TV service until I call them again, redo the entire robo prompts, talk to an alleged human and get a new remote--which may be days from now! I keep getting slick invitations to switch to AT&T cellular--based on this issue, that will NEVER happen! If this crap company can't get my TV signal running (which I paid for!), I will not risk my cell phone with these clowns! Their equipment is subpar and their service is nonexistent. Update on 9/23--my niece asked to watch Moana. Couldn't find it on DirecTV--called customer service and was told the movie is 'too old'! What? It just came out in 2016! Direct tv is a terrible product. Signal not clear when raining. On demand does not work. Was told by customer support that they are "working on it". No time line to fix. Was told it is a complimentary service so no credit will be issued. Told to reboot the box to solve most problems but then channels can't be accessed for 24 hours. Called for service to fix the brand new system and was told we would be charged if we did'nt get the service plan for an additional fee. Does not get local channels like pbs and five. I could go on and on. Stuck in the 2 year contract. Even if there are so many problems, was told that a wary cancellation fee must be paid. BEWARE!! Do not get this cable service read more

When my husband and I moved to Kona Hawaii, we were outraged because DirecTV had us locked in a contract, which by the way no one does anymore! I have to say though, when TJ, our service man came and hooked up our TVs I have never met somebody so polite and courteous. He did a superb job getting everything hooked up and ready to go in a timely manner. He even took his shoes off before coming in the house. DirecTV itself cost way too much money every month... Direct TV sucks. I would give this service negative stars if it was possible. When the weather is bad, you can expect no service. When you have a problem with billing, you can expect no service. When you try to file a complaint, you can expect no service. See the pattern. I tried to cancel my plan, but they offered me a teaser rate for one month as an inducement to stay with Direct TV and said that I would be "shocked" to see the next billing statement. Well, I got the next billing statement and it was double what I was paying before cancellation. When I tried to complain, they said that it was a "misunderstanding" and that it was caused by another department. Stay away from Direct TV unless you want to experience "TV service hell." You'll get better service, better plans, and more channels with a local provider. Plus, the local provider can bundle your internet to give you additional savings. A technician came out to install service, unfortunately the dish could not see the satellite due to line of site, that is not direct TVs fault or problem, I don't blame them for that. What they can control is how they treat their customers. I called Customer Service to request an account for NFL Sunday Ticket, a service which is all online and requires no satellite dish, and is only available through direct tv (cannot buy it directly from the NFL). After 7 transfers to get me to the "correct department" (Something the first transfer should have accomplished) the customer service rep spoke to me like I was 3 years old and with zero dignity or respect. I am so unhappy with our switch from Dish to DirectTV in Jan 2017. Listed below will be my top reasons. The main reason why we have cable is for my bed-ridden father. I've tried many times to teach him how to use Netflix/Hulu and he doesn't have the motor skills any more. The most he can do is press the channel buttons up and down and press the guide button. When we had Dish network, the remote and system was easy to use. If he pressed "guide" it would show all the possible channels. If he pressed "guide" a second time, it would show only the channels we paid for. This is impossible with Directtv. He has to scroll through HUNDREDS of useless channels. They told me when we signed up that we would have 3 months of free movie channels. When the 3 months were up, they left the channels on our account and are trying to charge us for them. They said I would have to call to have them removed before the 3 months were up.... Umm... If I didn't want them in the first place, why would I want to pay for them 3 months later???? The customer service rep said that I would have to dispute the 14 days of movie channels by going online. I was quite upset that she couldn't take them off herself but I decided to have her help guide me where I was supposed to go online to do this. Once she helps me register, I ask her where to go to make the dispute. She tells me to type in www.directtv.com/billingdispute. I did that and then it went back to the homepage. Then she told me to try typing "billing dispute" in the search bar. I did that and asked for the next directions and all of a sudden the phone went silent. I waited for about 5 minutes before the phone "disconnected". Now I'm on hold for another service rep for 40+min and still going. How do they expect us to make any changes to our account with this type of service? Nobody has time for this. Oh and when we signed up, the sales person told me that we would have access to Directtv Cinema that has tons of movies for us to watch whenever we like. I've tried to use it and I would say that at least 80% of the movies are ones that we can't watch because we don't have the correct channel. There is no way (at least that I've found) that we can sort for free movies that we CAN actually access without looking through each one and clicking on them just to find that we don't have access. what a waste of time. The only way that I feel Directtv can redeem themselves at this point would be to let us out of our contract. If we had the money, we would definitely switch back. Our Direct TV service went fine for over 2 years, and then we had a problem with the equipment they provided us that was only 6 months old. We are told they are not responsible for it after 3 months, and that we are welcomed to pay an additional $6/mo for 'extended warranty' and or have a service technician come out to troubleshoot for $49.95.
