On a recent "May 2018" road trip to Lake Tahoe we stopped here for breakfast. I've driven through Goldfield many times over the years. You don't see many restaurants on the main drag here. We really enjoyed our late lunch stop with our dog at Dinky Diner. My husband ordered jalapeño burger with fries. Don't believe other Yelp review about not having the listed ingredients, (the other yelper ordered a vegetarian specialty burger). My hungry husband enjoyed everything and he doesn't eat bland food. I ordered grilled chicken sandwich, with special instructions. I had surgery and could not eat white flour. They made special accommodations for my post surgical dietary limitations with smiles. The potato salad was freshly made and really tasty with seasonings. Our dog enjoyed being out of the vehicle and hanging out with us on picnic tables out front. They served us outside so we could enjoy the views of interesting and historic town. They brought our dog a separate cup of water for her bowl and are dog owners themselves. Family run business with very welcoming and accommodating service. Do stop and give them your business. read more

Smacked dab in the middle of... uhm. Nevada? Desert? Near Tonopah? A couple of friends and I decided to hit up Goldfield. Yes. Goldfield. We were hungry and it was almost late afternoon. Walked in, awkwardly stood by the door not knowing if we sit ourselves or not. Well, it's sit yourselves. Ordered a jalapeno burger veggie style! So thinking it would have all burger norms. You know, tomato, lettuce, onion, pickles, etc. Nope. Came with grilled onions, mayo? (I think it was), and a oily bun. I took a bite of it, and yes it was good but it was missing the essentials. The bun was oily too, kinda gross. Other than that, my experience with Dinky Diner was just alright. I would drive to Tonopah for another 20 mins to eat there. read more

The Dinky Diner does NOT observe safe COVID 19 rules! There were so many violations I lost count after a short bit. The waitress was not wearing a mask or gloves. She said all you have to do is have one with you. She said, "This is America! You don't need no mask!" The cook was not wearing a mask, hair net or gloves. Customers were allowed to enter without masks. Cleanliness was minimal. Ugh! I chose not to eat and kept my mask on. We sanitized our hands after getting in the car. Great diner! Right off the highway! Large parking lot in the back area for your rig and to walk the dog. There's about twelve tables, no booths but the padded dining chairs are comfortable. Brightly lit with windows to the highway. This is a cute town and no doubt Dinky Diner is the best food in town. Clean and friendly and accurate service. A great place to rest up for the next leg of the trip. Have a great meal at Dinky's and safe travels! read more

How do you rate these things? Should something in the middle of nowhere - if that is what Goldfield, NV is - be judged differently? What I do know is that the people who work there were super super friendly. I ordered a jalapeno burger. The ingredients were listed, and tomatoes and pickles and lettuce were not the ingredients. But cheese and jalapenos and other stuff were. It was good. If I were in Sonoma County, with the giant variety of fantastic restaurants, I'd probably give this a three. It's a decent burger, not great, not horrible, and better than your average fast food burger, as at least it tastes like human make the food. Add to that the super nice service, and, what the heck, I'll give this four stars. Just passing through on our way up north, we decided to stop in for a bite...we weren't sure what to expect. When we pulled up my husband was a bit skeptical & said are you sure you want to do this? We were all pleasantly surprised with our food & the cleanliness. My husband & his brother each ordered a BLT with fresh cut fries. I had a patty melt with potato salad & my SIL had a burger & fries. All the staff were really nice the atmosphere was comfortable laid-back relaxed and just generally inviting. Good selection of different kinds of food on the menu and we were served pretty quick. Really good food at what appears to be a hole-in-the-wall place. My husband had the mushroom burger and I had the jalapeno burger - both very tasty. My husband liked the fries so much he ate half of mine (I didn't mind - I was saving room for the apple pie, which was also very good). NOT veteran or handicapped friendly. If I could give this a half star, or quarter star I would. My husband is a disabled veteran and he and I were driving through Goldfield a few days before Christmas. We drove past the Dinky Diner and I thought it was so cute that I made him turn around so that we could go back and eat there. We got out of the car and I was so excited to try this charming little diner. My husband has a service dog. We got her out of the car. I noticed a sign on the door that said "No Dogs". I peeked my head in the door planning to acknowledge the sign and explain the service dog. Before I could get a word out, the woman working (who I am assuming is the owner), arms folded, with an angry look on her face, spat out, "Oh no, NO DOGS". I said, "oh, I'm sorry, she is a service dog, is that..." and she cut me off and said with even more venom, said, "It really doesn't matter". Yes. Yes it DOES matter. Furthermore, she didn't have to be rude. I could literally feel her hostility across the completely empty diner. Maybe she has an allergy, maybe she has dealt with people with "fake service dogs". Whatever the case, her horrible attitude was completely unwarranted. Had she politely stated that she can't allow service dogs because of an allergy or some other issue it would have been different. But she was just so unbelievably rude. It brought me to tears. Not all disabilities are readily seen. My husband served his country and I think he deserves to be treated with respect for that. We drove back through Goldfield on New Year's Eve and the restaurant was closed or I would have gone in and told her that there was a nicer way to handle the situation. I would never eat at a restaurant where I knew that someone with this much venom inside them was cooking my food or running the place. I'm not one to write a bad review but this has been eating at me for almost two weeks now. So I just had to say something. read more

A couple friends and I were out on the ET trail yesterday and had been up for about 38 hours before driving in to our Hotel in Tonopah. We got a late start this morning, skipped breakfast and as we drove through Goldfield, we spotted the Dinky Diner. We were starved and this was a perfect fit. This is the kind of place you read about in books or see in movies. Small town charm, friendly folk and quirky owners (ask about the boat car). We stopped for lunch on the way back to Tonopah after a morning of adventuring in the desert. It's small I side, and only has 1 table outside, which is in the direct sun. The food was good and plentiful. I had a chicken sandwich that hit the spot, and my cousin had a chili burger. The 3 stars are for this, to be fair, but I was extremely put off by something I witnessed while there. A man & what appeared to be his mother & his children attempted to enter with his vest-wearing service dog. Again, to be fair, I didn't notice at first it was a Veteran's service dog, and the blond server (who said her uncle owns the place) told them they couldn't take the dog in. The man replied in a less than ideal way, but his choice of words made clear the reason for needing the service dog. She ignored the family as they stood outside, saying inside that she's allergic so she's not going to let them come in. I then overheard that she has 7 dogs of her own at home. It was a quaint little spot we went to and Hawthorne, Nevada. Be careful, or you might miss it by blinking. Pretty great food, and the selections aren't too bad. Nothing really to write home about but it's the one stop in Hawthorne that you should definitely see. Goldfield, Nevada's only real restaurant. The Dinky Diner serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, and desserts. I spent a couple of days in Goldfield and ate here for every meal. It isn't anything fancy but the food hits the spot. Open until 7pm, make sure to fuel up before night fall or else you'll be stuck driving back to Tonopah for dinner, which is a slight hassle at the moment as there is on-going construction causing about a 30 minute delay. Omelettes, pancakes, burgers, sandwiches, slices of pie, coffee, root beer floats, every item served is very basic and what you'd expect from a diner. The atmosphere, once again, isn't fancy but is clean. The wait staff treated me with nothing but kindness during my multiple experiences at The Dinky Diner. Wifi is offered. Just ask for the password. Don't be fooled by the gas pumps out front, they are non-operational. If you are passing through Goldfield or bedding down at the Santa Fe Saloon, I'd suggest eating at the Dinky Diner. read more

I only had coffee here, so I really shouldn't even be reviewing it....but it seemed cool. The waitress wasn't grumpy that we were only ordering coffee and using her outlet to charge our phones (we were camping in the desert nearby). This diner offers great service, fast and friendly. The menu offers burgers, hot dogs, quesadillas, ice cream and pie, plus hot and cold drinks. (Much more than tha really.) It is owned by one of Goldfield's 190 residents. She will tell you a bit about this town and it's history. What a great stop. read more

First time here. I usually lower my expectations in small towns but was surprised by The Dinky Diner. My wife ordered a club sandwich which was a good size with a side of fries. The fries were cooked well. I ordered a chicken fried steak sandwich with a side of coleslaw. The coleslaw was homemade and extremely good. We were too full to try the homemade apple pie. Great little family diner! We throughly enjoyed our stop at this little spot. The service was so friendly, the food good and the prices reasonable. We loved the family that owns and runs the place and will probably make it our new regular stop on our drive from Carson Valley to Vegas. A cozy little place on the outskirts of Goldfield, NV with a very friendly staff. We stopped there twice on our way to and from a trip recently from Reno to Pahrump. Visit every time I visit Goldfield. Good food; everything is made from scratch (be aware in you need to eat THIS MINUTE!). Great pancakes; a short stack consists of two. I know what you're thinking: Just two? They are literally the size of a 12-inch dinner plate. Even I, who eats and eats, could not finish them. (Ask for extra butter and syrup.) Great egg dishes. Good coffee. My complaint: The owner is not the friendliest-looking woman. I cannot figure out if she simply hates her job and eatery or if that's her look. Don't expect conversation. Also, she needs to wear gloves when touching food (I saw her make glove-feed egg salad). It's a health violation! read more
