We had two great meals at the Stage Stop Cafe recently. Breakfast on our way down to Vegas last Wednesday, and lunch on our way home yesterday. The Stage Stop Cafe has become our go-to stop. The food is fresh and tasty, service is fast and friendly, and the atmosphere is cute old school Nevada. Our most recent meals included a Florentine Benedict, a Veggie omelet, a Grilled chicken sandwich, and a grilled cheese sandwich. On our way through Tonopah, I yelped this location for a late meal as I wanted breakfast. We were seated quickly & menus provided. The order was taken and the food came out hot. I ordered a skillet and my wife got a sandwich. My biscuit & gravy were on top of my meal, not on the side as one would expect. My wife's sandwich was small but tasty, the side was small but good. The star loss is based on portion size. We did have a dessert that was really good and better sized than our meal. read more

Today I came in with a large group. We didn't call ahead and they handled it really well. To drink, I had a strawberry milkshake. It was watery, warm, and had no strawberry flavor. The waitress was super nice and remade it. This time she also added some of their frozen strawberries. This milkshake was absolutely delicious! It was cold, creamy, and full of strawberry flavor. To eat, I had the Mac n Cheese Bites and the Crispy Chicken Salad. The Mac Bites were perfectly crispy and extremely cheesy. The salad was very large. All of the ingredients were fresh. We were in Death Valley for a week and we decided to take a drive to Goldfield to have a look around and to visit the International Car Forest of the Last Church. I'm a photographer and the last time I visited the Car Forest I neglected to take a spare battery. Unfortunately, it was freezing cold and extremely windy, so my photo excursion was pretty much a bust. To top it off, there was not a single restaurant open in Goldfield. We decided to head up the road to Tonopah. It's far larger than Goldfield with a decent choice of restaurants. And then it started snowing. For the first mile or so, driving in the snow was fun. But when the snow started sticking to the roadway, and I saw snow plows on the other side of the road, turning around seemed like the thing to do. I pulled off the highway and into a gas station to fill up before heading back to Death Valley. There, on the other side of the road, was the Tonopah Station Hotel & Casino. So instead of heading directly back to Death Valley, we decided to grab lunch. Stepping inside was like taking a step back in time. From the decor, to the rugs, to the smell of cigarette smoke, this place just shouts "old." At this point, we were committed and headed toward the Stage Stop Cafe sign just beyond the casino. It was 12:30 on a Thursday and we were the only patrons. Wer were seated right away by a smiling and pleasant waitress who was back in a flash with our coffees. I ordered a Farmer's Scramble and my wife ordered the soup. My scramble (eggs, ham, onions, and bell peppers) came with home fries and a biscuit. It was all delicious, though the eggs were saltier than I prefer. My wife's soup also came with a biscuit and she enjoyed it. The soup, she remarked, was salty. I shjould add that neither of us ever add salt to our food, so we're probably not typical when it comes to judging saltiness. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised. Our meals were good and reasonably priced, our waitress was friendly and efficient, and the restaurant was spotless. We would not hesitate to return. read more

After a long day of touristing in Arizona and Nevada, I stopped for the night and booked a room at Tonopah Station. After having slept the previous two nights in the car, the idea of a warm bed and a hot shower appealed greatly to me! Plus, staying in a historic mining town in an establishment with some history was definitely a bonus. The only downside to the experience was the 6000 foot elevation, which made it somewhat difficult to breathe, but it's all part of the travel experience. After checking in and hauling my stuff to my room, I looked around at some of the history on display there, and headed into the Stage Stop Cafe for a meal. I was immediately taken aback by how cool and old western the cafe was, and the atmosphere was amazing to me. Living out east, this is something I rarely get to experience. Anyway, the waitress was super friendly, and definitely knew all the locals there, making small talk with everyone and working with an injury, while keeping a smile on her face. I was pretty tired from my day, so I went with the Chicken Philly with a side of potato salad they had on special. I wasn't prepared for what I was about to be given. The plate arrived and it was the second meal of the day with a larger portion than I expected, the first being the breakfast on Route 66. The Philly was pretty good for its size, and the potato salad was fresh and very flavorful! The peppers and onions on the sandwich had a smoky, grilled taste to them that just enhanced the cheese and well seasoned chicken in that soft hoagie bun! It was so much, I actually had to take half of it to go, which I ate the next morning before hitting the road again. I love Tonopah Station and The Stage Stop Cafe, and hope I can stay there again on my return trip back to Alabama. read more

Over the years I have eaten here many times. It's a reliable place that serves decent food. The people working here have always been excellent. The food is your usual American diner style with a pretty good size menu offering a variety of choices for everyone. I'm impressed at how well the cooks prepare the meals quickly but never lacking quality. The servers always seem to move in sync with each other and never miss a beat. It's a very casual place with plenty of tables. I like the counter that offers seven places to sit if you're by yourself. It's usually where I eat breakfast while my clothes dry at the laundromat. This is another place I've never experienced a bad meal, so if you're traveling through Tonopah, you can't go wrong to grab a meal here. read more

On our bus trip to Reno, the group made a stop at the Tonopah Station to have lunch at the Stage Stop Cafe. We were quickly seated and even though there were 36 of us plus regular customers, service was fairly quick. The average age of their staff is younger than me but they moved. I ordered a turkey melt and an iced tea. I sat at a table with three others. Our food came quickly. The sandwich was good. We went to the register at the counter to pay and we were out to the bus in less time than had be allotted for our lunch stop. They did a good job! read more

It's a cafe in a roadside casino, so set your expectations - and after you do that, enjoy! I had an open face prime rib sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy and it was really good! Stopped at Tonopah Station to stay the night and decided to eat at their little Cafe for dinner. I highly recommend eating here even if you aren't staying and are just driving through. Excellent old school cafe style food with a wide menu variety. All the sandwiches sounded delicious. Loved the fact they put the sauce for the Reuben sandwich on the side as I was able to use some for my burger as the hubby does not like his Reubens drowning in sauce. Cute, little rustic restaurant inside the Tonopah casino. Stopped there on the road to Reno on a very cold night. There is RV parking in the back with electric and water hookups for $34 a night. We decided to try the restaurant. They have breakfast, lunch and dinner all day long. They close at 9:00. We ordered the fish platter and shared it because it was late at night. It was more than enough for two people. There were two pieces of fried cod, 3 fried shrimp and a large serving of fried clams. Included with the meal was soup or salad, bread and butter, a choice of sides and coleslaw. They allowed us to bring in a bottle of wine and provided glasses. The server was very friendly and nice. The entire staff wished me happy birthday. They did not rush us at all. I thoroughly enjoyed the stop as I've never visited this location in Tonopah before but I will keep it in mind when I travel through. read more

This is an updated review from one I posted in 2021. it is still reliably very good for breakfast lunch and dinner. Large portions and good quality for meat, veggies and dessert. Four of us ate there five times for a total of twenty meals last week. Waitresses were consistently in good spirits and attentive. All sorts of historic and funky stuff on the walls, and a gigantic bronze bathtub size stewpot hanging from the ceiling. Basic American food, from western omelet to sandwiches to burgers to dinners from spaghetti and meatballs (very good!) to chicken to steak with fresh vegetables, potatoes, etc. All dishes available at all times, 6am to midnite. read more

When we travel I enjoy stopping at local cafes, or diners, there is almost always a colorful staff,a quirky atmosphere and a menu that is unpretentious! This spot in Tonpah is all of that and a slice of pie! Even though they were extremely over decorated for Christmas it is ok! The food was hot and plentiful and the coffee refills kept a comin! ! Staff always friendly and attentive. Cool memorabilia and old diner feel. I eat here every time I am in the area. This time I had the turkey melt which has become a favorite. Fries were great and the sandwich was perfectly browned on thick bread with lots of meat and very tasty as always. The chicken alfredo is very disappointing. Was I expecting too much? The chicken in it wasn't real - it was a diced up, frozen, processed chicken patty with the fake grill marks on it. An ok option for food when you're making a quick stop on your roadtrip. I recommend ordering to go if you're bothered by cigarette smoke, as this is inside a casino. Their portions are big and service was fast. It's tricky to find this spot as there are no signs for it outside. You have to go into the casino and follow the signs for 'restaurant'. Their menu is a bit different than what you find online, some things have changed. They do serve breakfast al day, which is nice. read more

Inside the Tonopah Station Casino, this country coffee shop was exactly what we were hoping for. Pleasant staff seated us and brought our coffee promptly. Driving from Las Vegas to Reno we were hungry for some classic coffee shop food. We ordered a patty melt with fries, a tuna on rye with fries and a breakfast special. All the food came exactly as ordered, refills were plentiful on the beverages and we enjoyed the ambiance. Exactly what I had expected, very Tonopah. Lunch in Tonopah NV Stopped for a quick meal here in the city of Tonopah NV. There aren't that many places to eat coming home this way driving from Las Vegas, not even fast food places. The old fashioned restaurant is inside Tonopah Station, a hotel and casino. The hotel is located in the heart of Central Nevada, very historic. The restaurant serves American food specializing in breakfast and brunch but they are open until 9:30p daily. Breakfast is served anytime. I ordered the steak & eggs and came with hash browns. The steak was a bit tough and a little bland. Didn't enjoy it very much. Hubby enjoyed his ham steak & eggs (maybe he was just hungry) and daughter also seemed to like her tuna melt. I ordered a side of pancakes. I didn't think it would be that expensive but it was something like $6.99 for two pancakes. Whaaa?? How much is a box of Bisquick pancake mix that makes about 54 4" pancakes?? Btw, a 32-oz box of mix cost around $3. Our server was nice and friendly. Um, I guess that's about it. Nothing much about this dining experience. I did like the authentic Old West style of the hotel. It has a throwback saloon and a museum filled with antiques from Tonopah's mining days. Decisions, decisions, decisions, drive to Fallon for late dinner or here. Bird in a hand, here it is. Mina burger place was already closed so I thought I'll give this place a try, plus I would have to go out of the way to Fallon, if I decided to go there. They had a prime rib special, but I opted to pass on it. I decided on the chicken fried steak instead. I had two eggs with the eyeballs looking up. The chicken fried steak and hash browns were a little on the small portion, but the chicken fried steak was very good, not overly cooked and hard. The hash browns did not have that soft center like a larger/thicker portion would have had and again, other than the portion size, no complaints. The gravy, yum, was not overly peppery or spicy enough. Everything did come hot and the dry rye came that way, instead of having to be sent back because people are used to buttering toast. All and all, if I was looking for a place to eat when heading home from Las Vegas, this place is doable. The waitresses are efficient and friendly, the food did come out pretty quick and as comfort food goes, it's pretty good. Appears to be frequented by locals and travelers as well. read more

The cafe is located inside the Tonopah Station Casino/ Hotel. When I stayed in Tonopah about 8 years ago I went to get a meal there and the smell of smoke from the casino floor ruined it for me. Last week I had to stay there and decided to give the place another try. They seated me in an area next to a window and around the corner from the casino entrance. I did not get any smell of smoke from the casino area so I was able to breathe in peace. They may be aware of the smoke complaints because everyone else who came in for a meal they seated away from the casino entrance. The food is basic but good and they served up my order quick. I ate there twice for dinner and once for breakfast and was happy with what I got. You are not going to get 5 star food but it is about the same level as a Dennys, which I like. read more

The Place: A little old cafe inside the Tonopah Station hotel. The Food: They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I've had their "Steak Sandwich," and the "Cattleman's Grilled sandwich." The steak sandwich was good; two big pieces of meat with your choice of side -I had fries. The cattleman's sandwich was better in my opinion -- beef roasted, grilled sourdough bread with cheese and potato salad. The potato salad was just OK; potatoes were too hard. The Service: Service is great! Two lovely ladies have been there during my visits. They make sure we have waters, coffee and the food does not take long. Overall 3.2 Stars, this is a good option for people driving through Tonopah. This is a fun place to stop and see old photos and antiques from Tonopah. Wellll, she eventually made it to our table to take our order then we never saw her again. Coffee and water sat empty the entire meal. Different person brought the food out and just sat it and left. I actually enjoyed my breakfast here quite a bit. Food came out fast and was very good. Being a breakfast food enthusiast I definitely have something to compare to. Eggs were done over medium and not every place gets it right. Bacon was crispy just how I like it. Hashbrowns - excellent. People working here seem very sweet but nonetheless the service can be improved. I was ignored for a while upon walking in and trying to get seated. They forgot to give me silverware so I had to get up and ask (hard to get anyone's attention), then I waited forever for coffee refill. And it's not rush hour or anything. 3-4 tables at most. We dined here on our way back from Reno to Las Vegas, based on some good reviews and not too many eateries to choose from midway on an isolated long two-lane ribbon of a road. Homemade cheesy Potato Skins were very good, even though no chives were served with them. A cup of homemade Beef Vegetable Soup with celery, mushrooms, squash, tomato, noodles and chunks of beef was good except for one large hunk of fat. Also good was a rather plain Dinner Salad with Iceberg Lettuce, large croutons, carrot splinters, and French Dressing. Noticeably missing were Cherry Tomatoes because by the time we sat down to eat, the restaurant was out of them--just like Provolone for Diane's sandwich. My Hamburger Steak ordered medium rare but delivered more like medium was very good with extra Brown Gravy (at 50 cents extra), which was served with cooked zucchini and good Mashed Potatoes. Diane's French Dip first arrived with unmelted Swiss Cheese, then returned from the grill with cheese well melted but with one side charred. Service was friendly and very good. This place has character, and serves good comfort food. But the restaurant apparently tends to run out of some desirable ingredients on Sundays. XXX-1/2 overall! read more
