If you're looking for authentic Chinese cuisine without making a trip to Chinatown, then this is the place. Came here on a Wednesday night and the place was not packed. But on the weekends, they said they get really busy and will have a wait. We got their signature fresh coconut chicken hot pot (fresh coconut cut into the pot, boiled with chicken and any other side vegetables you would like to order for a separate charge). The server will tell you to cook the chicken about 15 minutes or so, don't over cook it as it'll make the chicken dry and chewy. Not a super wow dish but the simple flavors goes well together and with the dipping sauce (soy sauce, garlic, lemon) We also got the filet fish in spicy chili sauce. This was not overly spicy compared to other places. Not a ton of fish pieces but very generous with the vegetables. They have a large menu with a lot of authentic Chinese restaurant staples so I will be back to try more items read more

I am glad Ding's is back in business, this is some of my favorite Chinese food in the state, it is as good, if not better than my favorite restaurants in Chinatown. Food is not only delicious but prepared rapidly and the wait staff is equally awesome. It can get pretty busy here, so best to come during off hours or you may have to wait for a table. read more

Great authentic Cantonese dishes. Most Chinese patrons order the Coconut Chicken Soup which comes in medium or large size. Salt & pepper chicken wings are very good. Their ginger scallion twin lobsters stu fry is bomb. $60 but worth it. read more

First time here on a Saturday morning and walked in on a whim right around 11:30am. We were a table of three and got a table immediately and there were others already here and eating. This place opens at 11am so folks must have gotten here when they opened and they all seemed happy to be here. The food is fresh and delicious. The ambience is light and energetic. Service was quick and helpful. My two sons (10 & 13) loved everything we ordered! I am inspired to try more authentic foods next time as I see many patrons around us ordered thingsI didn't recognize that look so delicious. I will definitely come back again and recommend you try it. It also seems they have a solid takeout business as folks were coming in to pick up the whole time we were here. Wanted to try somewhere new for Chinese-style foods for Lunar New Year Celebration. We went to Ding's Kitchen. It is a relatively pricy restaurant for its dishes. THe highlight was the coconut chicken soup which you cook yourself as many tables ordered that dish. We also tried the lobster fried rice which was delicious. Not sure why this place is rated so low; it is severely underrated. It's extremely popular with international students from China so it's always very crowded. We hate to wait in line for about an hour before getting in; however, it was totally worth it. The menu stood out to me with interesting dish combinations and flavors like the lobster fried rice and coconut chicken hotpot which is pretty unique. We ordered the lobster fried rice, green beans, and crispy seafood and pork. To start with, the lobster fried rice is die for. It is so savory and mouth watering. The glutinous rice is just the right texture. The seafood and pork was just scrumptious as expected. As with the green beans. The service was quite fast. Small authentic Cantonese restaurant with dim sum everyday! They also have a weekday lunch menu for only $13-14, which is a great deal. Their Peking Duck was very affordable - I paid about $28 for half and it came with Chinese crepes, scallions, cucumbers, and hoisin sauce. This would be much more expensive in other spots around Boston. read more

Good communication when trying to make reservation for large party. Live fresh seafood options and the coconut chicken soup prepared table side were the highlights of this meal. Geoduck was fresh with excellent preparation. Lobster fried rice was excellent and comes in a very large portion. Also tried other vegetarian dishes. So this is our fifth time dining in this establishment and for this occasion, we pre-ordered a live king crab for a party of six! This king crab was brought to our table - alive, foaming at the mouth and weighing in at 9 pounds! Some of us came without eating the entire day just to make room for this creature and we were very pleasantly acquainted with the different preparations of the crab onto our taste buds. First came the innermost portion of its legs fried with salty duck yolk batter that was simply a blast of flavor (just coating your entire mouth), from the awesome sweetness of the crab and the salty pairing of the duck yolk - a great combination and most of us just wanted to keep savoring the duck yolk! Next up was the steamed upper and lower legs with minced garlic sauce, in two plates. Upon extraction of the meat and its transition to the surface of our tongues and the first chew, everyone melted, created another stomach and became silent by the tender texture of the meat which oozed its sweet, unctuous flavor. You just have to experience this wonder. Beneath these legs were rice vermicelli bathing in and soaking up the minced garlic sauce and crab juice that were easily devoured. These two plates emptied out first. The third preparation was stir fried noodles with the crab head meat presented in the head shell. Although there was some meat within, we came to the conclusion that we should've made the decision to choose rice instead of noodles as the crab flavor didn't come through as much as we would've expected. To complement this 3-way preparation, we also ordered the salt and pepper fried platter of squid, shrimp and pork, a fish maw soup (definitely add white pepper and vinegar to enhance the experience), black pepper steak (very tender) and stir fry pea pod stems which became out bright and perfect. Service was very attentive to ensure we had ample table room for the next dish while also clearing off anything empty. The place was packed and had a line outside of the restaurant so definitely recommend making reservations since for anyone who enjoys very good quality Cantonese cuisine, you will definitely want to come in and be seated quickly to enjoy the comforting experience. read more

This review is for dim sum only, after Ding's reopened after the closure. Party of 5 had no wait. Bill totaled over $110 before tip. Good: har kow, tripe, steamed rice noodle rolls, steamed roast pork buns, stuffed eggplant, crispy taro with pork. Just OK: shui mai, spare ribs in black bean sauce (mostly fatty pcs), turnip cake (barely any filling). Not good: sticky rice in lotus leaves (mealy mushy texture, fillings not that fresh), sesame balls with lotus filling (too little filling). Worth driving to Joyful Garden instead but prepare for a wait there. read more

I am surprised this place doesn't have higher reviews. A gem of a find in Newton! Really good authentic Chinese food. A great option in town, because I usually go into Quincy or Boston for Chinese food. We had: Steam fish fillet House fried rice Chicken chow fun Walnut shrimp Everything was pipping hot and flavorful. Great portion size. We look forward to trying their dim sim one day. read more

Went to Ding's Kitchen with a couple of friends and ordered a variety of authentic Cantonese dishes My favorites were the peking duck and the deep-fried soft shell crabs. The crepe skins for the peking duck were perfectly thin, and the duck was tender. And the soft shell crabs tasted amazing! I know this restaurant is more known for their Chicken Coconut Hot Pot, but I highly recommend others to come try their Cantonese dishes! read more

Ordered 90 bucks of food for delivery and it was ok but not great. Boneless ribs were cooked pork but no sauce. It's supposed to be carmelized and it had nothing on it. Skip it. Orange chicken was doughy, not crispy or carmelized. Panda's orange chicken is better. Shrimp with walnut was good but sauce needed more sweetened condensed milk - tasted too mayonnaise. read more

We have been to this place several times and this is a very decent Cantonese restaurant outside of Boston. Our favor choices are minced beef with cilantro soup, royal chicken, Chinese cauliflower with Chinese sausage, fresh clam in black bean sauce, and steamed fish. I remember their Mala spicy pot being decent (however not as good as the spots I visit in Cambridge and Allston-Brighton) but gets the job done, there were many shrimp heads but where's the rest of the shrimp? Super expensive for small portions, old beef slices and old shrimp, had a bad smell so I tossed $50 worth of food. I woke up extremely sick this morning from the food, never again.

Mind you, I'm here a LOT and am usually the only one sitting there eating while delivery people repeatedly come and go. Anyways, two reasons why I'm unable to give them 5 stars. First, the tap water they serve...tastes like @#$%. I don't know what it is but I've actually started bringing my own water bottle (or just ordered a soda). Two, the steamed rice is inconsistent. Half the time, it's perfect. The other half...is wet and mushy (I want to say a reheat but isn't that just such a faux pax in Chinese cuisine?). Nonetheless, this is one of the few four and less starred places on my list that I will still continue to frequent and recommend to anyone in the area wanting a quick and decent meal for cheap!

I was looking for something non-alcoholic and there was no water readily available nor offered. The food menu never appeared. The appetizers that were left out for the group were picked over and unappetizing. Cold fried calamari that has been sitting out? No thanks. A cheese and cracker board with no crackers and no serving implements? No thanks. There were two flatbreads there-I had a small square of each and these were ok. About 15 minutes before the event was scheduled to end the server asked me if I wanted another mocktail. I responded with an affirmative. I assumed he had canceled the order as the event ended. As I was getting ready to leave when the event ended (I had my jacket on at that point and he had validated my parking!), he brings over the mocktail and says "here is your mocktail" and sets it on the high top table where it just sat as I left for home. I have no idea if he charged the hosts for the beverage. I left hungry. I left a bit thirsty. I left surprisingly frustrated at the restaurant. When I arrived home, I made myself dinner. Fortunately, I enjoyed meeting new people as the event itself was interesting.

My first visit to Ding's Kitchen with my girl was nothing short of spectacular. Being someone who grew up in a Cantonese household, authenticity in Chinese cuisine is a must for me, and they delivered. The star of our meal was the white pepper chicken soup. The broth was a burst of flavors, I felt like no matter which soup you choose, you're in for a treat. The stirred-fried lobster with glutinous rice was also good. The flavors were bold, the lobster perfectly cooked, and the glutinous rice added a delightful texture. Just these two dishes left us happily full, showcasing the generous portions they served here haha. While the prices might lean towards the higher side, every bite is worth it. From the moment we entered to the time we left, everyone was incredibly courteous and accommodating. They have a large variety of options from American-Chinese to Typical Chinese to High End Chinese. Every dish is well prepared with such fresh and quality ingredients. One thing I learned while trying to order: the Chinese name, 荷媽廚房, is a cute pun on 河馬 ("hippopotamus"). Instead of the characters for "river horse," they use the characters for "lotus" (荷) and "mom" (媽), so it sounds almost the same while also reading like "(Lotus) Mom's Kitchen." I thought that was some adorbz wordplay. I called to place my order. A woman answered in Mandarin, which I immediately took as a good sign. I chickened out and switched to English. She switched to perfect English without missing a beat. Order placed. Fifteen minutes later, my food was ready. I ordered the spicy pork intestine and the Sichuan duck blood. Loading it onto my bike, the takeout container for the intestine felt surprisingly light, and I briefly wondered whether I was about to be disappointed. (Nope!) The intestine was fantastic: properly spicy, but also packed with layers of five-spice, chilies, and other aromatics. The duck blood was equally delicious. If you've never had it before, think silky tofu that has soaked up wonderfully spicy red oil. You know you're probably in the right place when the menu includes chicken hearts, gizzards, liver, pork kidney, and other offal, and most of the customers picking up their orders are Chinese. The menu also has plenty of charming spelling mistakes. OCR? Someone typing really fast? Your guess is as good as mine. Ordering was easy, they take credit cards, the food came out quickly, and everything tasted fresh. I'll definitely be back. There are far too many interesting dishes here for this to be my only visit.

I ordered the Papaya salad, Chicken satay. Curry Shortribs and Phad See Yue with beef and the mango sticky rice with coconut ice cream. Maybe my tastes are shifting, but I found the most recent visit ok, but with some significant…read moreissues. The Pla Pad Kun Chai which is a fried cod fillet, with a mix of root spices and Chinese celery, had some complex flavors that didn't pan out - the fish itself was breaded in a batter that was perhaps a bit too MSG-laden, and not enough distinctive a flavor to justify its saltiness; and the Chinese celery was really tough, which didn't make for a good bite of texture. The green onions were too crispy relative to the other alliums. The Kao Soi Brisket had some decent beef pieces, but then some of the other pieces were way tough. The soup (or is it a sauce?) was way thick, and overall the dish was overly salted. There also needs to be more noodle, and more mustard green overall. The curry puff was a good idea, but the puff itself was rather dry, and not particularly well integrated with the chicken, potatoes, and alliums. The stuffing might also have been underseasoned. In general the dishes demonstrate expert preparation, but the concepts need reworking. The new environment (across the street from the former location) is a tad loud when populated with many diners, though visually it's a pleasant place to dine. The servers were attentive and respectful.
