We chose Ding's on the spur of the moment - the reviews were pretty good. We ordered scallion pancakes and vegetarian potstickers to start, followed by sauteed eggplant-tofu casserole and chicken with cashews. The scallion pancakes were excellent - the winner of the evening. The potstickers weren't what is typically referred to as potstickers, but the small gyodza that one buys by the bag in Chinese and Korean markets. These were poor and flavorless (we've bought MUCH tastier ones in H-Mart and the 88). The eggplant was very tasty, not too garlicky, and was an enormous portion. It was a bit greasy, but not too bad. The chicken with cashews was bland and boring. We dined there with a good friend and commented about the great service - fast and efficient. As I mentioned, the portion size was significantly larger that most restaurants these days. The prices were a bit high, especially considering the barebones atmosphere - but this is Newton Center, and we expected this. In short, I won't return to Ding's - there are lots of better choices. read more

One of my favorite restaurants in Newton!! Everything we ate last night was delicious. We ordered the: -Chicken fish maw hotpot: this was so delicious. The soup was so rich and fragrant. I will definitely come back for this. Almost every table last night ordered hot pot. -Dried Scallop and Egg white fried rice: I order this whenever I see it on the menu but Ding's makes this soooo well. It has the amazing smoky wok flavor. -Surf clam on vermicelli: so fresh, so delicious. I will definitely be coming back to try more of their dishes. The service was great, super fast and attentive. The restaurant was clean and bright. read more

Got takeout from here during the week and it was pretty good! I was craving some dim sum and this is an especially good option for dim sum items without having to commit to driving down to Chinatown in Boston. Their menu has all of the staples, and I ordered the sticky rice in lotus leaf as well as the tofu skin wrapped pork. The tofu skin wrapped pork was delicious - it had a nice and savory sauce and was pack filled with meat and veggies. It was exactly like the downtown dim sum - a really great option for the area! The sticky rice was also decent but it felt like the rice was a little chewy in some places like it was an older batch or perhaps frozen too long. Still, the taste was good and the inside had BBQ pork which I hadn't had in this dish as much before. It was still very tasty despite a little bit having a harder texture - still a good option! read more

Eggplant and fried noodles were good. Shrimp dumpling was terrible. The skin of the shrimp dumpling was mushy like it was steamed multiple times. Service was good enough. Ambiance was decent. read more

Sep 24, 2026 - I ordered 4 dishes. Salty shrimp (fried with Jalapeno), Chicken with black bean sauce, bok choy sautéed and chicken/veg fried rice. BokChoy and Chicken with black bean were good. I would rate them 4 out of 5. And Saulty Shrimp was ok, I won't order it again. Something didn't feel right. The chicken fried rice was terrible. I tell you.. I feel it was not chicken in the fried rice. The texture was not that of a chicken. I felt "so-called chicken" was possibly some mixture of chicken skin, chicken gut, chicken fat, all mashed up and cooked and condensed into a cake and then chopped up. I took the remaining fried rice with me, will keep it frozen for two weeks if the restaurant wants to challenge this review and sent this for lab tests. Try to avoid dished that you can't identify the contents of..., such as soups, fried rice, minced meat dishes etc. read more

I call my Mom Grandma Ding because she's a little ditzy. And she likes to tag along on family outings like a dinghy attached to a bigger boat, sometimes in front, sometimes in the wake, so when we found this place on Yelp it was fate. We came for a family dinner and of course Grandma Ding was with us in her wheelchair. We only smashed into a few chairs in the big, crowded dining room. And fortunately other customers were understanding while the staff was helpful and accommodating. The small, curious child running around the dining room without parental supervision didn't get hurt when I ran him over. The menu was huge so it took a long time to order with Grandma asking questions about every item. I could see that the waitstaff was used to quick orders and rapid food delivery to the table, but the waiter remained kind and patient. He also repeated his answers loudly when she couldn't understand his English and because she didn't have her hearing aides turned up. We finally ordered a giant wonton soup, eggplant with garlic sauce, a shrimp dish, and orange chicken; all to share. Everything was fresh, hot, tasty and delicious. Grandma Ding did have to ask for the soup to be heated up because she likes it to be scalding. The dining room is worn and dishes were flying in and out as items were served and cleared. It's definitely a place for family meals, not one for an engagement proposal or romance. Perfect for our evening. Portions are generous and prices competitive with other restaurants in the area. Parking on the street is the only difficulty, particularly when you have a nonagenarian to get into the restaurant. We will definitely be back. read more

So yummy! Pork chop was so fresh it was hot. All the food was great flavor, not overdone. Service was fast. Stir fried pea pod stems were on point; always a favorite! Szechuan eggplant wasn't too spicy, loved it :) Chow foon always a classic, liked that it wasn't overly oily and it was a nice classic and traditional dry fry (in a good way, great "wok hei"). Ambiance was casual, street parking metered all along this restaurant's street, oolong tea that was included was SOOOOOOOOO good, may have been peach oolong. read more

Nice authentic Chinese dishes without driving into Chinatown Boston dealing with one way streets, bike lanes, parking nightmares. Food freshly prepared. The ribs were meaty and a more char would be better , but freshly cooked perfectly. The hong Kong beef chow fun was freshly prepared and it had nice flavors and noodles cooked well. Very good food and many options all freshly prepared. read more

Overall: we ordered only one thing and it was all we needed. The coconut chicken hot pot which is what pretty much every other table ordered. The only downside is how expensive it is coming in at a minimum of $45 with veggies and noodles bringing it closer to $75 final bill for two people. Food: feeling like winter got you down? Try the hotpot that has the hearty chicken broth taste and the soul purifying feel from the coconut. The slight sweetness and flavor from the coconut adds so much. I also highly recommend eating the coconut after as well! We ordered it with their mi fung which is the kinda noodle you want with this dish! Ambience/Decor/Service: think classic Chinese banquet style restaurant in a slightly smaller space. I appreciate the feel of real chopsticks rather than bamboo. The service was fast and they helped us cook but once they finished I appreciated how they left us alone. They would walk around so that we could call them if needed. read more

We haven't been to this place for a while and our last visit was very disappointed. It seems that they became very sloppy in terms of preparing the food. Everything came out as big chunks. We ordered ginger and scallion lobster and it did not seems very fresh. I hope they will fix their issues soon. Otherwise they will lose the customers. read more

This place is always packed. I don't really care much for most items on their menu but their fresh coconut/fresh chicken soup is amazing and the best that i've had. I was visiting my family from overseas and tonight we decided to have a meal at a new restaurant and I'm so glad we had the chance to try this place out. The size and space of the restaurant is reasonable. The front portion had windows looking out to the street and the back was more spacious for bigger groups. The atmosphere was relaxing and nice. The service was great. Thank you for our server (I forgot his name) as he was phenomenal and we truly appreciate all his hard work. The flavors were perfect as we like simple yet delicious dishes. It wasn't spicy nor salty nor oily. The entire family enjoyed it very much and we look forward to our next visit to try other dishes. read more

Average Chinese food in MA. If you are looking for actual good food anything closer to Boston would be better, this suffices for cravings though. Their menu has some non-average choices which I appreciate but the mainstream dishes are kind of regular. Service was super-fast and effiecnt, A+ for that. read more

So pleasantly surprised with this spot. All of the food was so freshly made, portions were generous, and service was fast. The space is very casual with plenty of street parking available. As someone who craves dim sum often, but it's not as accessible to me, Ding's Kitchen certainly satisfies my craving! I went to Ding's Kitchen on Sunday morning right when it opened. It was already filling up quickly and luckily I was able to be seated. The restaurant provided a menu with dim sum listings accompanied by pictures. I checked marked a few dishes and then dim sum was served hot and fresh to the table. It wasn't a traditional push cart experience. I enjoyed everything I ate, especially the har gow, siu mai, and turnip cake with xo sauce (highly recommend!) The dumplings were really juicy with great taste. And the turnip cakes with xo sauce were flavorful with stir fried bean sprout and scallions, topped with jalapeños and fried pork bits. I almost ordered a second serving because it was so good. Since the restaurant was busy on the weekend, the service was a bit slow. However, I appreciated that the servers apologized and check in regularly. Everyone was so nice. The restaurant has plenty of tables and comfortable atmosphere where many family gatherings and catch up conversations can be held. The location offers plenty of street parking, a parking lot across the street, and in the back. A tip is to go early since Dim Sum is regularly eaten on weekends with small and large parties. I could already see customers waiting for tables by noon with the morning rush. read more

Visited there on Monday for lunch which is a bonus The pea pod stems stirred with garlic tasted great. Also the usual shui mai and har kow were on point from the dim sum menu. Only the salt and pepper was heavy on the salt. Service was nothing beyond ordinary for an Asian restaurant. Parking was very convenient since there's a large parking lot across from the restaurant. I would return based on ease of parking and a extensive menu for lunch and dinner. read more

The place isn't very spacious, but it's clean, cozy, and comfortable. The service is good--friendly and attentive without being overly enthusiastic or distant. We came here to celebrate a birthday in the family. Plenty of parking right outside or in the lot outside. You do have to pay the meter, but there are plenty of options, right in the heart of Newton Center. This used to be Jumbo restaurant. The staff were friendly and accommodating. We ordered plenty of family style food while almost everyone else ordered hot pot. The place is as clean as other Asian restaurants...it was comfortable. The hot tea was good, and the food was good too. Standouts to call out were the garlic chicken. I was thinking there was more but that's actually it. The rest of the dishes were good too, just nothing worthy of calling out. Food is fresh and tasty and comes out FAST. For 11 of us, the bill came out to be just over $300. They offered a 10% cash discount. Would consider them again, as they are on par with Joyful Garden, a place we regularly go to as a family. If you like one, you'd enjoy the other. read more

Great place to get a bite to eat and a hurry. Food is good service was decent and the area was great.

I have ordered from this place a number of time and was good enough in a pinch if you want authentic Cantonese food. However, the quality is nowhere as good as what you would find in Quincy or Chinatown or even Joyful Garden in Watertown. Today I had dimsum and the siumai was barely warm and the the hargow was cold/frozen on the inside. Very disappointing. If you are desperate or don't know any better, come here. If not, look elsewhere. read more

As of late, this spot has been one of my faves for good authentic Cantonese food in the Newton area. Definitely has some nostalgic tastes and vibes, compared to some of the other spots I've been to these days - plus service is usually pretty quick and friendly! It can be pretty busy at times, but it's definitely worth a try in my honest and humble opinion. For their food, I've gotta say that their specials are usually a good choice if you're having a hard time deciding - as they've got quite the extensive menu. Though I must say, my personal favorite might be their clay pot rice with how it's simple yet very flavorful - just be careful, as the pot and its contents are piping hot! Would highly recommend! read more

Delicious food, extensive menu, reasonable prices, friendly staff, open until 11 p.m. every night. What's not to like?

Took the family here for lunch and the service staff was visibly pissed off to see us. The guy taking our order kept looking away while we're ordering, as if he didn't want to be there. At point one, he literally handed the utensils to another staff to say "here you do it". This restaurant was closed for several months due to failing the health department inspection. I hope the owner sees this and does a better job hiring for their staff. Strongly would NOT recommend anyone from dining at this restaurant. read more

I usually come in here with family or do a take out with friends. but this week i called in prior at 10:00 on Thursday and they say they were closed- one hour before they officially closed on maps . I ordered from somewhere else no big deal. I called in a week before 10pm around 7pm before. I called in and ordered about 4 dishes - 2 were the main dish and 2 were the appetizers. I usually order a marinated crispy duck tongue and it comes with chinese broccoli. I was saving my food the next day for work and ended up CHIPPING my TOOTH on the VEGETABLES!!! I thought it was a really crispy garlic, so I kept on chewing and ended up chipping my TOOTH very badly with SAND. I called in less than a week aka today and told them about how I chipped my tooth with the UNWASHED veggies. The recipient said they would speak to the manger and asked me to call back. so I did. They concluded that I needed a receipt to restore credit and that I should have called the next day. I understand given the circumstances of the rules. I guess I expected a little bit more because I always keep coming here. read more

We had a nice dinner there. We got a pork pan fried noodle, roasted chicken, and sautéed fish with vegetables. Everything came out fast and tasted good. They have a large menu of dim sum and dinner. I wish I took a picture of my meal , the menu said jumbo shrimp, I got one step up from bait shrimp. I believe it's the same restaurant as before, they just changed their name and tax ID. That being said everything is cut back. Fried shrimp dish, chicken fingers, scallion pancake and tea $50+ . Even the duck sauce was watered down . Kinda a turn off. Wait staff somewhat helpful. Fast service. Not that I wanted it, but no fortune cookie. Two different tables that were of Asian descent had hotpot's at 50+ dollars a pop , I bet dollars to donuts they had a coupon 50% off. read more

Came for late lunch / early dinner. Around 4pm. Seated right away. Even at that time, there were like 5 or 6 other tables occupied so it was not exactly quiet. Ordered everything shown in pictures. Everything was good. What stood out to me was the roasted duck. We got it whole. Love the taste and moist meat. Sweet and sour pork was also unique compared to other Chinese places. It is good. We got the fujin fried rice, which was interesting. I never had a fried rice that is saucy but we looked it. Saucy toppings were smooth. Everything else is pretty typical of a Chinese restaurant. Lobster, salt and pepper silverfish, Chinese cauliflower, fried milk, rice, and red bean dessert soup. These were also good but not as unique compared to other Chinese restaurants. Personally, my least favorite was the pork intestines with pickled vegetables. The intestines are such an acquired taste. Some people I was with, loved it. Overall, great authentic Chinese restaurant for dinner. So far, I think it is better than the closest competitor, joyful garden in Watertown. I would come back to try their dim sum. read more

Great local place for a good mix of solid dimsum and Chinese food without having to go to Chinatown. All their dimsum dishes are pretty spot on, and their seafood is excellent. We got the live king crab cooked 3 way for Chinese new year and that was definitely an experience. Pretty much we don't need to hit up Chinatown now after discovering this place. read more

I have been here twice for large family gatherings. This place is pretty busy, obviously very busy for Chinese New Year, so reservations were made in advance and they hurried us a bit for the next round of tables(this wasn't the case the first time we went in the Fall). Parking was fairly easy especially compared to the crowded streets of Boston Chinatown. Our favorite(which a lot of other tables got) was a lobster fried rice. The essence of lobster was infused throughout the dish. Another favorite was a "three treasure salt pepper dish" with fried pork, fried calamari, and fried shrimp. The pork was perfectly crispy without being overly dried. Con is that it is pricier than an average Chinese restaurant in the area charging things such as $2 per bowl of white rice and charging for tea(which the tea is typically complimentary, it was $10 for the pot). There weren't as many leftovers that I would expect for the amount we ordered which maybe just meant how delicious it was! I don't really think we had a bad dish so far and worthwhile to try. read more

We got fried rice, cashew chicken, and egg drop soup. Food pickup was easy at the front counter. Entree portion sizes were generous and loaded with protein, which was a pleasant surprise. Fried rice was quite good. Cashew chicken seemed like it had a bit much cornstarch and was not particularly flavorful. The egg drop soup seemed like it had a bit much cornstarch and was missing some flavor, but maybe it's just their style. Overall, was an alright food experience and decent value if you don't care as much about flavorful food. I would like something a bit more flavored at this price point and could do with a bit less cornstarch. Will probably go back but just for the fried rice. read more

Ding's is a great spot to grab food in Newton Centre. We ordered dim sum through their large menu from their website for Sunday afternoon. Some of the dishes included rice noodles, scallion pancakes, turnip cakes, baos, clams, and noodles. The pickup service was easy and on time and everything was packaged well depending on the dish. The classic dim sum dishes including ha gao and siu mai were steamed nicely and had plenty of filling inside. The rice noodles were cooked well and the sesame balls with lotus paste were perfectly crispy on the outside and had a good amount of filling on the inside. The scallion pancakes became a bit soggy but still had a good flavor to them. This was a satisfying and filling lunch and I would return to Ding's to try out their wide menu of items for another family gathering. read more

Came here with family and had a solid 3.5 experience. Their dim-sum staples were delicious but other dishes were underwhelming. The restaurant is much busier during the weekends but food comes out fast. Huge selection of dishes to choose from. Their shumai, steamed spareribs, shrimp dumplings, and turnip cakes were all delicious. However their Ha cheung (shrimp rice noodles), sweet & sour pork, and fried taro were lacking in flavor. After reading so many positive reviews about their dim sum, I decided to give it a try--but I was very disappointed. First of all, the dim sum wasn't fresh. The rice rolls, for example, didn't seem freshly made; they were chewy and tasted like they had been sitting in the fridge for a while. The stir-fried sticky rice was also poorly prepared, lacking any real flavor. You might be wondering what qualifies me to judge dim sum. When I was a kid working a summer job as a kitchen helper at Restaurant 70 in Chinatown, the chefs spoiled me with amazing their dim sum because I was the only kids who was willing to peel over 200 lbs. shrimps every Saturday morning for them! In the end, I spent over \$100 plus a 20% tip and left hoping they can improve. read more
