Cute spot for lunch on a Friday and was my 1st time here. The decor brings Old Montreal to life and the service was very professional and friendly. I had the Tuna Crudo, a green salad and focaccia. Very delicious and the leftover focaccia had to come home with me, it was that good. My companion had a Caesar salad and arancini, which was served in a creamy, truffle-y, garlicky sauce that was oh so good! Overall outstanding experience once again in December 2025. Food is great, ambiance is buzzy, and Michael remains the consummate host. Wow. Is all I can say. The old Montreal atmosphere, the friendly service, the bartender explaining his concoctions. And the food! The bucatini special, with duck and an anchovy cream sauce, washed down with a hibiscus lemonade mocktail--spectacular. The salmon special entree with seafood--"that was so good." My daughter and I ordered two pastas and they were both delicious. We sat at the bar since we didn't make a reservation and the bartender was very attentive and gave us great service. The quaint restaurant had a great ambiance. We will definitely go back. read more

While my meal may have not been great, I still want to give high praise for Dinette Marcella. First I loved the ambiance and vibe. It is definitely a special occasion type of restaurant. My friend and I opted to order from the appetizer menu. She ordered the 'polpette' which are beef meatballs with tomato sauce and parmesan. I got the parmigiana di melanzane which is the lightly fried eggplant with tomato sauce and parmesan. We also got an order of the cheesy garlic focaccia to share. Her meatballs were excellent. I know because she let me taste one. We also both enjoyed the focaccia. However, my eggplant parmigiana fell short. There wasn't enough egg plant and too much soggy breading. Our shared dessert was the ciambelle (beignet)s al Carmelo and was absolutely delicious! Our server was friendly and attentive. I would happily return if I am ever in Montreal again. Nice interior - drinks were horrible- tasted like cough syrup -food was ok nothing memorable - mostly just a sloppy mess on a plate . . What I found truly tasteless was that I was charged 4.50 for a 2 oz ramekin of extra tomato sauce. I thought the 22$ calamari could have covered the little bit of extra sauce - I guess I was wrong. Everything about this place was amazing!! The pasta sauce was flavorful and the chicken was well-crusted and still juicy inside! The tuna crudo was the highlight of the meal because even though it looks simple, it had so much flavor in the lemon zest, fried capers, savory cream, and basil oil. We had a dinner of selected appetizers and really enjoyed our meal; everything was good except 1 dish which they removed from our bill. *The Marcella salad was delicious, it had just the right mix of arugula, greens, dressing, candied pecans, etc. *My favorite was the bruschetta- they provide 4 long pieces with a perfect topping of tomatoes, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, it was so good! And not only that, it sits on a bed of arugula which adds the right bit of spicy to the dish. This was just excellent! *Meatballs were good, sauce and flavors were there. *Fried calamari was delicious, tasted fresh and seasoned just right. *Eggplant parmigiana was a disappointment. It was drowning in sauce and when you got to the eggplant it was mushy. It was like there was breading that got mixed into the sauce and the eggplant had no good texture. I have to give kudos to our server who asked if everything was all right and I told her about this. She apologized and returned offering to switch it for something else. We didn't want another appetizer so she just removed it and we got 2 desserts instead. Had she not asked, I would never had complained but would have left dissatisfied. Tired of eating after a long week in Montreal of stuffing myself to the gills, I was dreading another meal out. I was so glad I kept my reservation! Loved the vibe of the dining room - great lighting and plants. Service was incredibly friendly. We kept it simple with just ordering one main apiece. I wish I had space in my stomach to eat through more of the menu. My husband said his carbonara was divine. I had a pesto pasta with the gluten free option. It was cooked to perfection, the pesto was top notch, Sun dried tomatoes were a great flavor addition and the pine nuts were toasted to perfection. I noticed some larger groups of 8-10 dining while we were there, so this seems like a good place for a celebration. Great wine list to boot! read more

Totally worth the wait. The ambiance is to die for. Open windows, lanterns, dimmed lights, and music is perfect. We sat at the bar and our bartender was so generous and fast for having to serve everyone at the bar I rarely needed to wait when needing something, came here to visit from out of town and nod recommended coming here if wanting Italian food. This wonderful find truly satisfied my Italian food-snob sensibilities and in SO many ways. This food is the REAL DEAL when it comes to classic Italian fare. We started with the bruschetta, which is served on unusually long narrow strips of bread. The oblong toasted bread actually made it easier to eat, and the taste was easily the best we've ever had. I really like when a chef makes minor tweaks to a classic dish that makes it a whole new and delicious experience. This is a fine example. For our dinners my wife ordered the classic carbonara and it was just as you'd find at the best restaurants in Rome... absolutely delicious. Plus, it was a very generous portion. I ordered the Frutti di Mare. This was another master-class in how to improve on a classic Italian dish. Marcella makes this dish with a slightly creamy grayish sauce that is the most flavorful I've ever had with a Frutti di Mare. It coated the seafood and pasta perfectly, but was not too heavy. You'll definitely want to have bread around to mop up that sauce when you finish - it's a moral imperative. My wife and I highly recommend all three dishes. The restaurant is also very nicely appointed, welcoming and comfortable. I would call it a medium to smallish setting, which is exactly the way we like it. Plus, if you can request a server, Megane is TOTALLY worth it. She is a sweet, knowledgeable and attentive server and was the perfect complement to a perfect meal. Bon Apetit! read more

Service was excellent, quick water refills and kind waitress who was patient with our lack of French speaking ability and made our visit excellent. Service was fine as well as the ambiance. The only reason why I won't give it a 5 is because I think it's a little too expensive.
