The already posted reviews don't lie. She is quick, polite, and a little pricey. You get what you pay for though, my expensive clothes never get messed up. They have rush delivery and regular delivery is reasonable timing. My brand new suit pants cost $10.99 for a hem since I am a shorty. I dropped them off on Sunday and needed them ready for Thursday pick up. . .no problem. I never feel ripped off, they tell me when I don't need those extra charges. I will definately keep going and would have given it that extra star if it was slightly less expensive. I was hoping for a $8 hem, but still it's quality. Lastly, credit cards are only accepted for $20+ otherwise it is cash or a dollar fee to use credit. I think it is fair. read more

I got a dress hemmed/taken here. It's the first time in my adult life getting a dress tailored so I wasn't sure what to expect. I had wanted the bust taken in but the lady suggested also taking in the straps. When I tried the dress on in the store it fit great but then when I tried it on at home the straps were all itchy and weird. I examined the dress to realize the straps had been all weirdly twisted around and the beads seeming to be removed in certain areas. Now the beads were touching my skin where they were previously not exposed. That is not good work at all. I would go back to have them fix it properly but the weird Russian lady (or other variant thereof) would probably yell obscenities at me. So on to place #2. Hopefully they can fix the crap-job that this b---- did to my designer dress. :( read more

Just as good as Forest Tailoring, although it's a tad bit more pricey here because Forest gives me a small discount for sending them hella customers. One thing I was really impressed with was the fact that Valley Custom repaired a pair of premium denim I had that was totally blown out in the seat. Forest wouldn't even try but Valley re forged my jeans for $30. I also took another pair to get original hemmed and they took care of it for $24. I currently have another pair of Rock and Republics still with them and I trust them with it. Overall, a good recommendation to get things altered, the lady is really sweet and nice, and I love the fact that they are open on sundays. read more

I felt compelled to re-write my review of Valley Custom Tailor b/c I believe that the quality of their alterations has declined dramatically. I've been a customer here since high school (a long time basically). I'm not sure what's happened but the husband and wife team have all but disappeared from the daily operation of this place and now have been managed by this one lady (who's been there for a few years as well... not the most friendly person). I feel like the missing presence of the husband and wife have caused the place to go downhill. Last week I took in a jacket to have the buttons replaced on it. The first time I came back to pick it up, they only replaced a few of the buttons, even though I told them to replace ALL OF THEM. Even though the second time around they fulfilled my request I looked at my jacket and saw iron rust stains on it. Mind you my jacket is white and when I gave it to them there were no stains. You can imagine how upset I was b/c it's a Marc Jacobs jacket, not some cheap jacket from Forever21. I decided to go and get it dry cleaned by someone else so hopefully the stains come out. *cross my fingers* If you come here just stick to jeans and be wary of sending anything that's not dark colored. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Original Post on 10/14/2007 This is a place that you can trust with alterations. I've had them alter leather and wool jacket sleeves w/perfect results. The one thing that sets them apart is that they're really accommodating to express service. You can have same day service for only $2 for each pair of pants which is really reasonable. One time I walked in on Sunday and asked if they could get the pants done ASAP b/c I was leaving town that same afternoon. All it took was a 20 min wait and I had my Paige jeans ready to go! Reading one of the comments below regarding the bad jacket hem w/no refund, I'm surprised that you mentioned that b/c in the one instance they did mess up (on my brother's nice jeans), they completely refunded him the retail price to get a new pair and altered them perfectly the next time around. I hate to say this but some customers can be divas/arseholes instead of being leveled headed to negotiate a solution when something goes bad and you can't be rude and expect kindness in return... just my opinion. I've gotten a lot of my khaki's and slacks hemmed here. The people that work here are very friendly! They do a terrific job each time and the turn around isn't bad, they'll typically get your pants back to you within a week or a couple days, but if you need it sooner, they'll get it done. i went in to get a suit altered - the arms needed to be shortened by over 2 inches! the thing also had true through-hole buttons, which i know makes it more difficult because that means having to take the arms from the top and shortening it from there. i was worried at first, that it would get messed up, but she did a great job and now it fits just fine paid $60. i checked out other nearby places and they were about the same price, maybe + $5. still feel it was a bit expensive, but didn't find anyone else that can do it cheaper read more

I have had my jeans, slacks and skirts hemmed by Valley Custom Tailor, and they have done a perfect job every time.

Took a very expensive shirt that I got as a gift for my birthday. The person that did the alteration did a horrible job on it. I have a large neck size so I always need to get my shirts altered so that it will fit. Shirts are usually bulky and loose on me because of my large neck. I asked the tailor to take in the shirts on the sides & alter the arm area around near my arm pit and upper arm so that it would look less bulky. All she did was take in the sides of the shirt to slim it, but did nothing with the arm and sleeves. Now my shirt is slim, but when I raise or move my arm, it looks like I have wings. I expected alot more from a tailor shop of this quality. The tailor was rude and impatient, and I don't think she knows what she is doing. And she ruined my expensive shirt! Don't go here, go anywhere but here! I would give this place 0 stars if there was that option. read more

I found this business on Yelp. I have some very expensive INKnBURN pieces I needed hemmed and a shirt made into a tank. After reading reviews I decided to give it a try. They said right away they could do the same stitching (cover stitch) which all my items needed. Not alot of places do this. She explained they wouldn't do the same finishing on the tank but just a fold over and stitch which I was okay with. I was shocked at the price which was beyond reasonable! I have been going here for over 15 years. They always do a great job. I am on the shorter side so I am always hemming my pants. I have brought designer jeans, Lululemon, etc and I tell them I want them to have the original look and it always looks like the pants were made in the shorter length. OK, so I ordered a nifty coat off ASOS that looked like something Sherlock Holmes would wear. How could I pass that up? Unfortunately, although the body fit very nicely, the sleeves were too long and too puffy. Since the coat was awesome and I grabbed it at a killer price, I thought why not, might as well take it to VCT and see what they can do with it. There was only so much that they could do without making the coat look funny (there were elbow patches that limited how much they could taper the sleeves), and the price was pretty steep ($40 to taper and shorten sleeves, move the button on the cuff), but all in all, I have to say they did a great job with the coat. When I first brought the coat in, Irina refused to shorten the sleeves as short as I wanted them. When I was adamant, she explained that she had many customers demand a shorter length, only to be upset that the sleeves were too short and there was nothing she could do because the material was already cut off. She assured me that it was better to err on the side of caution and that if I wanted them shorter later, that they could do that. I received the coat and as I expected, the sleeves were still very long. I called back and explained the situation and the woman working there (not Irina this time) was very nice and professional, said it would be no problem, and that they would shorten the sleeves more w/o any additional charges. It took them only a few days and this time, the sleeves are the perfect length. They are even on both sides and I have received numerous compliments on the coat. No one can even tell it was ever altered. They tapered the coat expertly and inside the lining. No stray threads, strange bumps, or puckered fabric. If you've read my previous review, you will know that I bring pants to VCT to be hemmed and/or tapered every month and that I'm a long time customer. This is the first time I've brought something other than pants to be altered and I'm pleased with the results. I definitely feel confident bringing other nice coats to VCT in the future and I'm glad they redid the job to my tastes without any fuss. read more

Simple tailoring job. Had 5 days to complete. On 5th day, was not even started until 2pm. "Come after 5pm" says the store. Even though every ticket says ready by 2:30 p.m. What?? i've had many items altered here. in general, they did a great job. and like others have mentioned, they will tell you if something is not worth being worked on. things they do well: hemming...even with these silk pants i had, the hemming was perfect...good job on jeans too things they had problem with: 1. shortening the straps on my dress...took them 3 tries & still didn't get it right (uneven length, too tight, did not sew all the material)...my mom finally fixed it for me 2. tapering pants - took them 2 tries...unsightly bulges on both outside legs, and the pocket outline became very prominent...the bulges are gone now, but the pocket outline is still visible, but not as bad as after the 1st try read more

I first came here in 1996 and had been coming back until 2017. I am male so my tailoring needs are simple. They had 4 stars but new management came in and it changed to a cut rate low quality place in 2017. They ruined a $400 casual cotton sport jacket by chopping the sleeves instead of shortening it from the shoulder. Ended up with sleeve buttons 1/2" from cuff - looks ridiculous! We were recommended here originally by the Jessica McClintockstore. My daughter need to have sleeves added and other alterations done to her prom dress. It turned out beautifully. Since than we have returned for formal dresses and a couple of other prom dresses. The service is great and the work is fantastic. They are able to add sleeves, alterations and even lengthen the dresses and they look like they were never touched. She makes them look better than the original. We now drive from Manteca about an hour and 20 minutes to have them do the work. They were also very accomadating in doing it the same day so we did not have to make two trips. have been a customer here for almost 10 years now. I trust them with my designer clothes. the prices are reasonable too. Elina the owner has her good day and bad days. She can be extremely friendly and nice to you once she knows you but I have also seen her showing a but attitude to some. The other two ladies are always polite nice and smiling. sometimes I have noticed when they are swamped with alot of work on a particular week they would do a not so clean job. And I had to have them redo it but they never charged me for redoing the work. But most of the times i am a happy customer and the work done is right down to a tee. The other thing I really like about the front ladies is that they would give you an opinion if something will look OK or not and they will give you suggestions as what can be done to the dress to match your physics better. they always deliver right on time. I have gone to this place for years just out of convenience and because they offer original hemming on designer jeans. Frequently, they hem things too short or too long and they have to be redone. The staff/ownes are bossy and abrupt but again, it has been pretty convenient and quicker than waiting for Macy's or Nordstrom's to do the hemming. I made a huge mistake though by letting them alter my wedding dress. They had to redo it twice, were rude about it and on the third pick up, the snotty owner said that it was "fine" even though my hem was clearly uneven by about 3/4 of an inch on one side and proceeded to say that it was "even" on the manequin, it must be the material and the clincher was that perhaps it was "my body type" and that maybe I was uneven. She then turned and started helping someone else and ignored me! This was only about two weeks before my wedding and the stress that she and her great staff added by doing the alterations incorrectly 3 times was bad enough but to be dismissive and insulting was over the line. Never once would they agree to pin the dress all the way around and argued that it was not necessary! She never ever once apologized that I had to come in three times and that it was still not satisfactorily hemmed. I went to Forest Tailoring immediately, they measured everything all the way around and verified that it was uneven by almost an inch on one side and randomly hemmed unevenly all around and that the lining was not even either. They fixed it within one day and charged less than Valley Tailor, were really nice and helpful. They offer 100% guarantee and I would recommend them over anyone else I have ever used. Beware of going to Valley Tailor and don't expect any satisfaction if it is not done properly plus some attitude to go with it. Would prefer to rate them with zero stars...definitely not a "worry-free" experience as they suggest they offer in the review of themselves. read more

I have brought nearly every item in my closet here, everything from my designer jeans, to my husband's Zegna suit (needed reweaving which they did - expertly!), to a bridesmaids dress, to all of my tshirts that needed hemming. Everyone in the shop is helpful, friendly, and understands what can and cannot be done to a designer garment. To all the reviewers who made comments that they did not like the staff, perhaps you should think about the way you treated them. Were YOU friendly to them? Were YOU polite? From the very first visit, I walked in with a smile and treated them as new friends. Maybe if you try that, you will get decent service! I was looking for a good tailoring place to get each of my expensive denims hemmed. i saw good reviews for this place next to vally fair mall. at first i came in she was really straight forward when i started asking questions, you can tell she became really irritant. but overall it was quick and easy. jeans took exactly 1 week to finish (i was in no rush). the denims came out very nice. perfect fit and it looks great. i would give it a perfect 5 stars but it cost me $44 for two pairs which is quite pricey.... i didnt mind paying $44 for a good job for $200 per pair of jeans. so if you have cheap jeans i recommend going somewhere else, but if you need something done well shes pretty good. read more

*warning* Rude and Dishonest!! *warning* I have used this place numerous times in the past and haven't had any real complaints. As mentioned in a few reviews, the owner, Irina, is a bit unfriendly and rude but she does good work. Today I went to pick up my pants which I had JUST taken to the cleaners before I noticed the seam popping and took it to Valley Custom Tailor. She hands me the pants and asks me to check the area I had mended - and there is a huge stain on my pants! It's semi-circular and looks like someone has set down a cup of coffee that spilled over. These are my absolute favorite pair of tan dress pants, I really hope it comes out! I pointed this out to Irina, and noted that it would probably come out when I washed the pants and I wasn't too worried. But if it didn't come out, what should I do? I was little frustrated by having to go clean my pants again but honestly it wasn't worth fighting over $2 and I had another load to go to the cleaners anyway, so no big deal. She immediately got incredibly hostile and said very loudly, "Well none of us put it there, it's obviously from your coffee!" Ok let me just say what is so wrong about this: 1) It could be coffee or soda - so why is it "obviously coffee"? 2) I don't drink coffee because I'm Mormon and I rarely have sodas 3) I had just taken it to the cleaners and I know it was clean when I gave it to you - I really don't appreciate having my integrity questioned! 4) The stain is obviously where a cup was set down on it - there is no way I could have spilled the coffee onto myself this way (on the outside of my left thigh). I don't drink coffee, neither do any of my friends that I see during the work day, and I don't make a habit of ripping my pants off in my managers office and using them as a table cloth for her to set her coffee cup on! I mean I only take my pants off at home and I have never had coffee in the house I live in currently - there is no way I could have gotten coffee on my own pants, or that anyone else could get the stain on the pants the way it was while the pants were on me. I told her again that it wasn't there when I dropped it off, and it was obviously a cup ring, and that I don't drink coffee because I am Mormon. She told me I was lying and said, "Look at how we work!" I guess trying to show me the shop was clean. There was junk on the floor and people who looked tired & overworked - a recipe for coffee disasters honestly. I told her I knew I didn't do it and I didn't appreciate my integrity/honesty being questioned. I don't drink coffee and the pants where clean when I got them at the cleaners. She raised her voice really loud and yelled at me about questioning her integrity saying I obviously spilled my own coffee. Another woman in the shop looked really uncomfortable when Irina began to yell. I grabbed my change from her & left (I wish I hadn't even paid until after this was over - I would have refused to pay so I could use the money for dry cleaning!). I told her and I will tell you - I will never us this shop again. They are good (not amazing), it's not a specialized service so there is lots of competition, and she's always fairly rude. But today was incredibly over the top. You should NEVER yell at a customer, even if you think they are wrong. And especially when they didn't even ask for anything or start raising their voice to you first! All I wanted to know was what happened if my pants are, indeed, ruined. What a jerk! 0 stars if you ask me. Maybe 1 star because they did fix my pants but it wasn't worth being called a liar and potentially having them ruined. read more

NEVER GOING BACK HERE AGAIN! I was referred here by Aritzia in the mall to get my jeans hemmed here, i get my shoes repaired at Cobbler's Bench next door and have heard great things, so i decided to give them a try. I dropped off 6 pairs of jeans for her to hem and a sweater to fix the seam. As always, i asked for original hem on my jeans. $24 each?! really? i've gotten my jeans hemmed at places that make suits and they don't charge that much! so when i decided i would go to my normal tailor (Rose Cleaners in Sunnyvale) for my jeans, i left the cardigan there for her to sew since it was $3, no biggy. i came back a couple of days after i was supposed to pick it up without ticket they gave me. Usually, not a huge deal to not have your ticket. The usual woman wasn't there, instead a large woman helped me. She asked what my name was and i told her, and even wrote it down for her. After some looking she comes back and says "not here, you probably already picked it up or had taken it somewhere else." i said "no, i know its here i only took my jeans somewhere else" she asked me to go back there and look for it myself. After some looking, still can't find it, and the gathering of women in there were clearly annoyed with me as they were giving me dirty looks. The woman said again "not here" i said "well, its a $300 sweater, so if it's not here, i'll go get my receipt from Nordstrom and you can pay me for it" She became really agitated at this point, she moved a large jacket over and there it was. She looks at the ticket and says "Amera? You told me Anera!" i said "look at the post it i gave you, it says Amera" After she snatched the five dollar bill out of my hand i snatched my sweater and left, not caring about my change because i was so displeased with the service. read more

I've been going to VCT for years! I've brought many pairs of jeans to be hemmed with the original hem. Unfortunately, after my last visit, I will probably have to find a new tailor. I brought in a long dress to be hemmed. I brought it home, tried it on and immediately noticed the left hem was significantly longer than the right. I showed our nanny, and she noticed it right away. It was a pain to have to bring the dress back but it was the reaction and treatment I received that really turned me off. I tried it on for the owner (I think she's the owner), and she kept telling me to stand up straight! It was so crooked that she thought I was leaning on one leg or something. Another lady came and adjusted it at the waist. it was a cinched waist, so you could tuck in one side to make it look even. I said that I do not want to keep fussing with the dress to make the hem even plus that was not how the dress sits on me. The owner replied, "Fine I won't argue." I noticed they were removing roughly an inch or more off the longer side! I asked if they give some kind of discount or credit for the mistake and I was told, "Well, we're not charging you to fix it." Since it wasn't really about the money, I asked if they would at least speak to the person who did the hem to ensure this doesn't happen to others. Reply was, "Well, I can't not pay my people!" I have no idea how we arrived at that. Bottom line is that the customer service was VERY disappointing. I got a lot of attitude for a mistake they made and did not even receive an apology. read more

I've been coming to Valley Custom Tailor for over 15 years, and they always do the job right. High quality work, and very creative with how they make adjustments. They are on the pricey side, but the workmanship is what I am after. I've taken my garments somewhere else close by my house, but I got what I paid for....cheap and poor work. I ended up taking them to Valley Customer Tailor and they fix the problem. My regret is even taking them somewhere else to begin with and end up paying more. 4 Stars only because of the distance....but that is not their fault! I had gone here for the past 10 years, always knowing i would get horrible service, but a good product. This time I got horrible service and horrible product. I went in with a dress for a wedding (thank god I didn't get my wedding dress altered here) and the employee who always works at the front doesn't even pretend you are there. Once you finally get the dress on they sternly tell you how it should be altered, not how you want it done. The owner yells at you as if you are wasting her time if you ask her to hem if from the sides instead of the back. I had told my fiancee about the customer service and he asked why we go back when they are so rude. I had no answer, but now I will not go back! On this occasion I picked up my dress and the length hadnt been shortened and one side was taken in, while the other side wasn't. I brought this to the employee's attention and she said "ok, we will fix". I came back to pick it up the day of the event and the bottom of the dress was not straight or even and the lining was hanging out. I asked if they could fix it now because the rehearsal was in an hour. The owner actually yelled at me saying it was my fault and this takes time. I said I couldn't wait to see can fix it and I will wear it some other time and I had to go buy a new dress. She said I was insulting her and went on a rampage. I left because I couldn't be late to the event. I went to pick up the dress a few days later and asked if I could have a partial refund ( I had spent $223 altering two dresses). The owner yelled at me saying she performed the work, which is understandable, but I couldn't wear the dress to the event so I felt that I should get a little something of a discount. The owner and her employee are rude, have no manners, yell at you in another language, and now I can say they are not good at their service.
