Food was 5/10 at best. Our waiter was nice but messed up on our appetizer. The hostess wasn't very friendly and didn't even greet us when we walked in. But that's not even that big a deal. My biggest complaint is the condition of the restaurant. It's not very clean. I could see dust particles floating around while I ate. Then there was a gnat flying around my food, which was annoying. Also, we were sitting in a booth and the benches weren't attached to anything so every time I tried to scoot back my seat would flip forward. My keys fell behind the seat at one point, but at least I was able to move the seat off to dig them out (since the bench wasn't properly secured) and don't get me started on what I found under there. Decided to try this restaurant for the first time in a few years...service was terrible...food was okay. We waited over 2 hours for our food bc the waitress forgot to place our order once we received our app. She repeatedly apologized and told us she will give us a discount for the ridiculous wait. We said ok...mistakes happen. She continued to apologize every time she passed our table but didn't bother to refill our drinks. We had to request a refill each time. Then our meal came out at different times. We received the bill to notice she did not discount anything! Not even our 3 iced teas. We didn't say anything thinking she will remember when she totals out our bill...NOPE. No discount. THEN she brings our change and NO small bills! I've heard so much about their Muffuletta I just had to try one. The pros: nice size, generous amount of olive salad. The cons: not enough meat and cheese and the meats have absolutely no flavor, whatsoever. Very disappointing. There are better muffs on the Northshore. My wife had a roast beef po'boy combo (half po'boy, cup of gumbo and potato salad) and it was all very good. Will stick to their dinner plates, which all looked very good. read more

Walked in at 7:20 sign says closes 8:00. Waiter that greeted us ( waited 10 minutes) first thing he does is look at his watch . If you close at 8 then I should be able to walk in at 7:55. You close at 8. If your staff wants to leave at 8 stop taking tables at 7-7:30 Then I don't appreciate sweeping and cleaning around while I sitting at my table . If you like watered down liquor and over-priced food, this is your place. I ordered a whiskey drink, and it tasted like water. I asked the bartender to pour me a little more whiskey and I watched her pour a LOT more into the glass. Thinking it was now going to be way too strong, I took another sip and it tasted exactly the same - like a watered down whiskey. Ordered steak and shrimp. Management needs to remind employees of restaurant hours! Three different times we have been there and were told they were closing soon and we needed to hurry up and order! Seriously? This was within 1/2 of closing time! This time they seated us, we ordered ice tea, and were told they didn't have tea because they were closing at 8:00 pm. My mother and I went here to watch the Olympia parade, which proved to be an excellent decision! I have passed this place before and thought the patio looked really nice, so I've been meaning to try it. We just had two glasses of wine and an appetizer. Ordered broiled rainbow trout, $19 entre, came with loaded baked potato. Also, ordered fried fish of the day, which was catfish. The problem with this order was it was strips of over breaded "bait" pieces, not filets, nor was it described on menu as strips or filets. Basically, it was 90% breading. $17. If mediocre had a representative, DiMartinos would be chosen. --We ordered Bloody Mary's but ended sending them back as they tasted like watered down V8. --Our spinach and artichoke dip was ok but only lukewarm and did not taste like any fresh veggies were involved. The chips that came with the dip were store-bought, slightly stale, cold tortilla chips. --My "mixed greens" salad with fresh mozzarella arrived disguised as mostly iceberg lettuce with powdered Parmesan on it. --The "broccoli supreme" was the ONLY option for a vegetable side item and it came in a ridiculous crock with a lid and, upon closer inspection, was plain steamed broccoli dumped atop a pile of unmelted butter. The ribeye was good. Cooked correctly and juicy. It did have a ton of tough fat all around and throughout, but that cut of meat is expected to be somewhat fatty. It was the only cut of steak offered on the menu. --My boyfriend got the chicken florentine and immediately expressed disappointment in it as well. It was juicy but had what seemed like canned spinach on top and sat in a pile of "sauce" that looked and tasted like heated Italian dressing. --Our server was friendly but very young and not knowledgeable about the food when asked questions. --Management did come by twice and both of them were friendly and apologetic. read more

Blandest food in Covington (Think nursing home bland). If you are watching your diet by avoiding any and all flavor -go here. Hubby got the fried shrimp platter (with a not so yummy freezer burn taste to the over battered shrimp) and I got the spaghetti with slightly tinny, mostly tasteless sauce and 3 small also flavorless meatballs .... garlic (or any kind of seasoning)is usually somewhere in the meatballs at least. It wasn't even present on the stale buttered bread. I swear this place is AFRAID of garlic. The "house salad" is a small handful of lettuce with a barely ripe Roma tomato wedge (maybe 1/6 of the Roma tomato) with cheap tasting, too tart, Italian dressing on the side. Cost $54.00 for a salad, a popcornshrimp dinner, childs coke, 1 ice tea and a glass of wine. Then tip runs it up almost $10.00. I do not have that kind of money for lunch for common food. And I only had the popcorn shrimp dinner for $17.95 (not the butterfly shrimp). I will not go back. So much more than just poboys and muffalettas! Both are great. Any of the seafood poboys, roast beef, or meatball...you can't go wrong. The olive salad on the muffaletta is perfect. The veal parmigiano, spaghetti and meatballs, or chicken parmigiano Alfredo are all great past options. read more

For Muffalettas this is the best hands down. I used to go to Central Market in the quarter but for local this is it. The rest of the entrees always look great when I go but I couldn't tell you since I only order the Muffaletta. The owner really went all out on this location. Even the server stations are actual antiques. I was eating there when he first opened and he told me the details about the building. When you sit down and wait on your food they bring around a cheese and olive tray. Very nice bar also. Prices are up there but the food is quality and the atmosphere as well. I highly recommend it. This place was really odd, when you walk up it looks like a normal decent Italian bistro. I was with my parents, who had been before, I was somewhat taken aback when I walked in and saw that there was an order board, and I immediately had to figure out what I wanted to order. It's basically a self service restaurant. Oddly though, there are a large number of waitstaff. We were presented with some cheese and olives on toothpicks when we sat down. I ordered the garlic chicken with broccoli--it was cooked acceptably. I didn't love the menu though. Additionally, the service staff and owner seemed overly concerned about how our meal was going. If I had any recommendations to the ownership, I'd recommend ditching the self service model, and slowing down the pace of service. You have a nice restaurant and the food is ok, but make it a traditional sit down place. This just felt odd. read more

We have been to DiMartino's many times and the service is always less than desirable, but we went Sunday and my son and I both ordered shrimp poboys, we received our order and we both got roast beef poboys. The waitress was so completely out of it that she did not even understand that she got the order wrong. She just kept babbling. It was completely bizarre. We ran into friends' there who said they had been there the night before and had the same waitress and she gave them the completely wrong order as well. We just ate the roast beef poboys because it took so long to get our order in the first place, that we didn't want to keep waiting. I'm afraid our first visit to this restaurant will be our last. There were two adults and two children in our party. Upon arriving, we walked down the narrow hallway to find the menu displayed on the wall near the corner. Since it was our first visit, we all had to look at the menu before we proceeded to the counter to order. There were other customers who came in after us. If they knew what they wanted, they had to squeeze by us to get to the counter. If they didn't, they had to try to see around us to view the menu. We placed our order and paid. The total with tip was $70. We left the cashier and saw some drink cups at the end of the counter. We took our cups and filled our drinks, got napkins and condiments. This is a self-service restaurant with the exception of someone placing your food on the table. We had to get our own refills, etc. Shortly after being seated, we were informed that the redfish my husband ordered was not available. So, he had to look at the menu again and decided on trout. He was then told that they didn't have any trout either, only tilapia. So, he ordered veal parmigiana. My daughter had the fried shrimp platter and my son had a bacon swiss burger. The tartar sauce was really bad. I tasted it myself and told her not to eat it. Both of them enjoyed their food otherwise. I had the chicken parmigiana and the chicken was pretty good, but the pasta was just okay. My husband had the veal parmigiana and he did not enjoy it at all. The veal and pasta were bland. In addition, his pasta just did not taste right and had a bad aftertaste. A small salad came with our parmigianas. It was just okay for me as it was full of olives and I like olives. My husband does not care for olives, so he didn't really like the salad. One thing we all thought was strange was that you order at the counter, get your own drinks, get your own refills, napkins, condiments, etc. The only thing the wait staff did was bring the food when it was ready. However, the decor of the restaurant and the uniform of the wait staff looked like a fine dining establishment. It just didn't mesh. I ordered veal parmesan and it was surprisingly good. It came with 3 medium sized pieces of veal and the sauce was good, although a little acidic and could have used a bit of sugar. I really wanted to love this place, but don't. 1) Tiny little fruit flies ALL OVER THE PLACE - the table, the menu, my glass!!! 2) They have this large dining area yet they jam everyone ordering in the same dining area - felt stacked one on top of the other 3) The order I placed was incomplete and what did show up was wrong. 4) The food tasted pretty good -- but about 2 hours after my guest and I left we both got sick. I'm fairly new to DiMartino's. Been there a time or two several years back and remember being ok. Went back last month and was good but not great. I was satisfied because we just needed a simple dinner. Tonight we went and had the eggplant sticks and they were good, salads came and the Italian salad was ok but was so drenched in oil I couldn't eat it. We let that go and 3 out of 4 of us ordered the filet, 1 ordered the filet tips with Alfredo pasta. The steaks were absolutely awful. They had a weird taste of natural gas. When we brought it up to the waitress she said she would bring out the manager. Out can a sweaty female cook, not why you expect as a manager, who couldn't understand why we had a bad steak. I showed her the chewed up steak that I had to spit out into my napkin because it was so bad and all she could say was that she would talk to her supplier. She did offer something else, but think about it, would you order something else after having to spit out food? I asked for the check and they didn't bother to comp anything and being a person that typically lets things go I just passed the waitress my credit card and let the others get ready to head home. Would you believe the waitress forgot to run the card and left me sitting there waiting while the rest of my family was waiting in the car. To sum it up I'd say it was an awful experience with awful food and awful service. We won't be returning. read more
