General's chicken lunch special
Alesia i.

I got generals chicken w/egg roll lunch special. nothing to write home about. If u want rice or chow mein it's $3 more but the photos show it comes w/it. Very misleading.

Dim sum is always my go to!! I can never get enough. I love this spot and this is the one spot I miss the most since I moved away. This was our first time trying their soup which I didn't get a picture of, but their sizzling rice was so damn good. We ordered it with chicken and I love the amount of veggies that they include in theirs. We got the salt and pepper shrimp and I'm impressed that they used the extra large shrimps so they didn't shrivel small when cooking. Definitely worth a try if you're in the area. If you've never had dim sum, what are you waiting for? Get in there!

Pork won tons July 2024

Bland sauces. It used to be better. But fresh Veges and still pretty good. The pork won tons had no sauce for dipping. The flavor of the food like my happy family fish was just off. It wasn't good. Also our waitress was a young Caucasian woman who was very unsure of what she was doing and had lots of trouble taking a basic order for lunch. We ordered off the lunch menu. She nearly gave us dinner items but we discovered her mistake as well and corrected that.

Pork spareribs lunch combo with soup

We dropped in Saturday at 11am to have brunch after stopping by a store. This was the only Dim sum place I could find in Salinas. There was only 1 table taken. We ordered the lunch combo pork spareribs with black Bean sauce and a bunch of dim sum items. The best item was the spareribs. Decent items were the hot & sour soup, shrimp dumpling, tofu skin wrap, Siu Mai. The skin on the shrimp chives dumpling was too thick and the inside is like a shrimp Ball instead of just chives and shrimp pieces like other places. The pan fried turnip was ok. Think it has a lot of flour with some dried shrimp, Chinese sausage, and squid. The veggie eggroll that came with the lunch combo was ok. We order meat type of eggrolls. I think they are better for Chinese food instead of dim sum. And they don't push dim sum carts here. The food came out at a good pace so we didn't feel rushed. You pay at the counter in the front.

Steamed Spareribs from the dim sum menu

Nice, spacious, and clean restaurant. Friendly employees and good services. I ordered the Dan Dan Noodle soup with beef. It's not exactly a traditional Dan Dan noodle soup, but still the broth was spicy & excellent in flavor. Came with sliced (grilled?) beef, bokchoy, Napa cabbage, carrots, and jalapeño. From the dim sum menu, I asked for soup dumplings and was told it was listed on menu as Shanghai Dumplings. The dumplings were very meaty & porky in flavor, but I didn't get any broth as you would expect from soup dumplings. So not sure if they were really soup dumplings. Still, they were very tasty, and can easily be a crowd pleaser. Also ordered steamed spareribs from the dim sum menu. Great flavor, may not be suitable for you if you prefer leaner meat. The pork is tender and really fatty, which is honestly how I love my pork! Overall, flavor to me is authentic. The food is somewhat comparable to what I would get in San Jose (aka Asian food Mecca in Bay Area). My total came out to about $32 for all 3 items. In this age of inflation, it's hard to tell if price is average or not. I will definitely be back again, and again. I think you will too so give them a try.

Salt and pepper tofu !!! As you can tell it was good! Lots of tofu and broccoli !

This will be our go to place for our dim sum cravings and more. Prices are reasonable High recommend!

So delicious ordered number 12 noodles soup it was spicy with sliced jalapeños At first was not expecting the spicy flavor and kinda didn't want to eat it but once I got over the first nervous reaction it turned out to be the best soup noodles ramen I have ever had the chicken was so soft and tender and sweet very enjoyable We had the pork pot stickers they were also yummy with a hint of ginger mostly meat and delicious sweet fish sauce Also the pot of tea was the best ever with fresh whole green tea leafs so flavorful and has a energetic kick The service is fast and attentive they allways seem to be there when you want something The ambiance is very peaceful and vibrant feels like a well maintained restaurant extra Clean and smells good

A waitress noticed me quickly and came to ask if had placed an order or needed to. They have a big menu! The lunch specials are amazing deals - a main course, with chow mein, fried rice, and soup! All for less than $15?! In this economy?? So I ordered the cashew chicken and a starter of cheese puffs (wanton). The food was all flavorful, the chow mein had a deliciously satisfying chew, the cheese puffs had a tangy cream cheese filling. I would say there wasn't an abundance of chicken - but there was a lot of other food to make up for it. Oh and complimentary hot green tea! I will definitely come back again!

The lunch specials are pretty good and reasonably priced, especially for this area. There were only two servers working: a younger woman handling cleanup and table setup, and a senior woman taking orders and serving food. The workflow felt a bit unorganized -- it would be smoother if they backed each other up. Overall, the lunch specials were solid and a good value here.

I actually had to circle back to find it, which already made it feel like a bit of a hidden gem. Arriving around 1:30 pm, the dining room was completely empty at first glance. For a moment I wondered if they were closed, until I noticed the doors slightly ajar. Not long after stepping in, I was greeted and invited to sit wherever I liked, which added a relaxed, unhurried feel to the whole experience. I went with the Mango Beef Special Lunch Combo ($10.99) The dish came with generous crisp vegetables, chunks of mango that paired nicely with the zesty savory beef. The fried rice and chow mein leaned a bit on the mild side flavor-wise, but a touch of chili oil and some of the entrée sauce brought everything to life. The combo also includes soup of the day and your choice of appetizer, making it a well-rounded plate. Portion-wise, it's more than fair--especially for the price. In fact, it easily undercuts most nearby Chinese spots and even fast food options, in the later case being obviously fresher and more balanced alternative. This feels like the kind of place you root for. I'll be back to explore more of the menu--and honestly, I'd take supporting a quiet local kitchen like this over a fast food chain any day.

It opened, closed abruptly and then closed again after having very spotty service. I would often call the Monterey Jacks to see what was going on with the Aptos store. Despite it being the same business, the staff at both were always put off by my genuine questions. Especially given that I LOVE thier food and have written very positive reviews. When I called to find out why the Aptos location closed again without notice, it was like I was majorly inconveniencing them. Maybe, thank you for your loyalty. I literally ate their food at least 4 times a week. And I will go to the Monterey store to get those little dumplings I love so much. But maybe instead of treating customers like their love of your food is an inconvenience, have some skills at turning the experience to a win. So I ask here, why did Jacks Aptos shut down again?

I'm happy to say that now there is a decent asian place that we can drop by if we have a craving or if we are bringing overseas friends to the aquarium. Very clean interiors, you seat yourself and order at the counter. We had the beef noodle soup, veggie noodle soup, and the XLB. The beef noodle soup was mostly soy sauce based, not too salty, just the right amount of savoring. The meat was not beef shank, but a leaner cut with less connective tissue so don't expect any chewy tendons. And the noodles were cooked with just the right chew. XLB was only okay. Not terrible but not something I would order again. Overall decent, and for Monterey standards definitely a 4 out of 5. Obviously cannot compare to beef noodle shops in the south bay, but this will do if you are spending a day touring the local area and have the craving for noodle soup. No free water here by the way, you'll have to buy a bottle of water at the front counter so plan accordingly.

We ordered basic egg roll, the dim sum sampler, combination chow mein, and Shanghai Noodle Three delight. The egg roll came with 2 rolls. They were the perfect amount of crispy and flavor. The dim sum sampler was mostly average. The only piece we could not eat because we found it disgusting was the chicken mochi. My partner said the chow mein was something he would come back for. If that was the only thing he ate it would be 5 stars. I ate the Shanghai Noodle Three delight. It was not a delight. It advertised having items like noodles, bean sprouts, onions, chicken, egg, shrimp, and calamari. After ordering I found it is supposed to come with 3 pieces of shrimp and 3 pieces of calamari. My plate only had two pieces of calamari. At first I was disappointed there wasn't more calamari, but then I tasted it. The calamari tasted rubbery, tough, and no good flavor. When I brought the problem of only having 2 pieces of calamari and they only said it usually tastes like that and I should have gotten three pieces. (So no solution.) My advice to the restaurant, if you know the majority of your customers think the calamari is disappointing, don't serve calamari. The dish would have been much better if you put more shrimp and deleted the calamari. (Without up charging customers.) The servers were kind and friendly. It did seem weird how busy they were when there were only two tables eating at the place. We barely saw them but they did fill up our drinks before we thought to ask.

The vegetables have little to no flavor at all. Egg rolls were under cooked so the insides of the egg rolls were chilly and mushy. The sauces they send with the dim sum are non existent or so minuscule that one person may could dip two pieces (that's being generous).
