Their orange chicken is so yummy! Been coming here for over 40 yrs!! New ownership now but food is still yummy

I used to love coming to this spot so me and my honey decided to come and have dinner I got one of the combos that comes with me from broccoli and when the lady brought the plates to me the place themselves were super hot but the food on the plates hold broccoli cold meat cold it felt like she had just put it in the microwave so I brought it up to her attention and she act surprised and offer to switch out my beef and broccoli for something else but I declined and asked her just take it off our bill. read more

Flavorless all around and skimpy ingredients in the fried rice. Food took twice as long to be ready than what time was stated. Panda Express is flavorful in comparison. The fond memories eating here from my childhood were nowhere to be found today. read more

So disappointing we left with our food not even half ways eaten everything was super oily and tested like old oil. Service was alright they only checked on us once the whole 30 minutes we were there. Would I come back? No I would not the food was just sad, bland, cold, soggy, and some parts of the chicken tastes frozen. read more

I have been coming here for YEARS! Ever since I was a little girl my parents would bring me on sundays, and I am following the same tradition with my children. We absolutely love coming here and ordering the seafood sizzling rice soup, delectable!! The service is great and all of the workers are very nice and welcoming. Ive actually made some nice friendships with some of the people that work here. I will never stop coming here. I 100% recommend! read more

Driving back from LA to the Bay Area, we stopped at this little Chinese restaurant in Salinas. So hungry and tired. They served us warm green tea- so good for the dark winter night. We ordered a bunch of dishes, and the waiter was so kind to let us know the quantities are more. Yea that's right, big plates is it! Yummy comforting food. We all loved it, including the kids. We asked for water and no ice, got each a lemon wedge in our water glasses. The kids enjoyed their water too! Haha and of-course we still over ordered and packed up the leftovers into to-go boxes and now I'm enjoying my lunch at work! Thanks for the amazing comforting warm food. Happy New Year! read more

Great food, wonderful ambience and over all a good experience. We were greeted fast and the service was superb.

China House is probably the longest running Chinese restaurant in east salinas. The new owners have maintained the tradition of the original owners, with a light spin. I like some of their dishes, because it isn't too salty or oily. This is more of a comfort food spot. They have a wide array of lunch specials too. The staff are warm and welcoming. Service is attentive and prompt. Sometimes they do get swamped though. The atmosphere is pleasant and they are always adding new features. Such as their new beer and wine bar is coming along nicely. If you are heading up and down the 101. Just Google map their restaurant. Because it's not too far from the highway. read more

I wasn't expecting place to be that great. But it was actually pretty good!!! The food was fresh, the portions are generous, and the staff is friendly. I didn't like that they don't serve the soup anymore because of COVID, like really??? The BBQ pork wasn't the best I've ever had. Overall good though. I will go back to try something different. read more

Finally decided to check this place out. What a mistake. Honestly it was gross. Ordered Wanton soup and Spivey chicken. The soup tasted like dirty water. Terrible taste. The chicken has an oil taste no flavor at all. Never, ever , ever again!!! read more

Food was cold, chicken fried rice had beef and shrimps in it and orange chicken was soggy.Employees had a condescending attitude last time I visit.I been going since a child I'm 30 now ever since the new owners took over its not the same. That's my experience thanks for looking. read more

Good food, great value for the price. One of the best spots in Salinas. My wife loves to come here with the family. The food is not as greasy as compared to other similar restaurants. They need to improve their soda machine, the tastes is not the best. Overall great restaurant!! read more

Not the same anymore. They recently changed the way they make food . Sometimes we get fresh food and other times we get disgusting leftovers. Its sad since we've been coming here for years. read more

Terrible experience! I told the server I had a shellfish allergy and she acknowledged it but brought me chow Mein with shrimp. Our orange chicken was burnt, we asked for fried rice and got white steamed rice. When she replaced my plate for chow mein without shrimp she brought me "the new plate" BUT the rest of my food was COLD. The new fried rice was just pretty much white rice with soy sauce heated up. We kindly smiled and thanked them for their time. We paid and left our plates full and server . Terrible service from out server and food was just disgusting . Our orange chicken LITERALLY was so burnt to the point that I told my bf his plate smelled so Burnt. From his end or the table . NEVER AGAIN . read more

Great Chinese Restaurant! I know it's during COVID-19 but the food is excellent, service is very polite and fast! Usually 15-25 minutes. And it's affordable!! And close to home. read more

My family and I have been going to this restaurant for years, never had any issues with placing to-go orders..prices are reasonable. Although since this is a review, I must say that the restaurant itself is in need of major remodeling. Old carpentry, rips in the seating etc.. unfortunately, my son found a hair in his food last night. We understand that stuff may happen like that once in every blue moon so we disregarded it and finished our dinner. Here I am the next day warming up leftovers and I found a piece of sharded metal maybe from a grill cleaner of some sort in my bbq pork fried rice and chicken chow mein. I can't even imagine ingesting it and getting ill from thier mistake. We will never ever, be back again. Please check your servings before eating from them for stuff like that.. horrible! read more

Definitely the most underrated Chinese restaurant in town I think the reason why it's because it's tucked away in the middle of Alisal street surrounded by a lot of Mexican restaurants and businesses. The food here is amazing cooked fresh the orange chicken is my favorite as well as the sizzling seafood soup amazing. Definitely worth checking out its not perfect the parking is terrible and I feel like the inside of the restaurant should get a modern remodeling job. But overall highly recommended read more

Four stars? Really? I might give this place a 3 star max but would never reach a 4 IMO, fried and battered entrees doesn't necessarily mean Chinese, drowning your meal in oyster sauce doesn't mean Chinese food either - There is no WOW factor in the food, nothing to make your eyes twinkle and look forward to the second scoop of hot and sour soup or the next dishing of pork fried rice, Oh well. I guess I expected too much- this is not china town and will never ever be, so I guess rating this place 2 1/2 or 3 stars for the quality of cuisine presented is fair enough. read more

Best chinese food in my birthtown.(I was born in salinas but currently live in the bay area.) love staying and taking out at this place.

Found spider in food. Place defiantly needs update and a visit from the health inspector. Friendly staff but needs a clean up. If it's like that in the outside i can't imagine their kitchen read more

As soon as we walked in, we smelled wet dog. The carpet was filthy and smelled terrible. The wallpaper is peeling and the walls were dirty. We ordered the combination chowmein and we had to return it as they forgot to put the shrimp in it. The manager came with a small bowl of chowmein with a few shrimp in it. The chowmein was not edible; it was extremely greasy and no flavor. The BBQ Pork and broccoli was a fail. There were little bits of pork in it and big pile of broccoli. The server never checked back on us and we needed refills on our drinks. The manager was rude with us when I said we were not paying for the chowmein as we left it untouched. He was verbally abusive and said because we "ordered" the chow mein, we had to pay for it even though we did not eat it. We did not pay for it and he told us to never come back again. Not a problem!! Avoid this place. read more

DO NOT EAT HERE!! This place is TERRIBLE!!! Went with my family to celebrate and our day was ruined by this place. We ordered platters that we could share and they took forever to bring us our food and by the time we were almost finished eating they had were just bringing us our chow-mein. We were pretty much done eating with everything else so we told them the chow-mein was unnecessary. They told us that it if we decided to not eat it we would still be charged because it was already cooked...we had waited almost 40 minutes dining on everything else! It would have been understandable if they were busy and backed up with orders but they were not. Before we left they began cleaning the table and taking our plates before we were finished and began using a loud vacuum. We understand they close at ten but we still had about 30 minutes left. Waiters never came by to check up on us during our meal. It was the cleaning crew when they got near that we had to ask for service. They were cool. It was WAY TOO EXPENSIVE, lousy service, NO free REFILLS! DO NOT EAT HERE!!! read more

This restaurant actually impressed me. I found out about this place from two coworkers. They told me how good this place was so I had to go and see for myself. I went on a Tuesday around 7pm. Just by looking at the place I wasn't too sure but don't let it deceive you. I walked in and and got greeted promptly. I told the girl I wanted a to go order of shrimp chowmein, vegetable fried rice, kung pao chicken, and orange chicken. I also told her I didn't want them to add msg to my food since my coworker told me they use msg so to make sure it was without. She was really nice and my whole order came out to 30 something. I sat down for about 10-15 minutes and they called me by name to let me know it was ready. They gave me a free side of white rice which I'm sure all Chinese places do that. When I got home I tried it and honestly it was all pretty good. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the Kung pao chicken since it was mostly veggies and it was rare biting into chicken. Also they only added a few pieces of shrimp to my chowmein they need to be a little more generous with the shrimp. Other than that the food was good and I will probably go back. Also the serving sizes can feed a family of 4. read more

I don't know where to start, the bathrooms where disgusting. If the bathrooms look like that imagine the kitchen. So we sat right across the kitchen door way which means I saw alot. But let me start with, the place smelled funky, I saw a woman that works in the kitchen lick her fingers while serving a plate. I saw one of the cooks go inside the restroom with his apron on. Now I work at a restaurant and it's mandatory to take off the apron and leave it out, he took it inside with him. The food was horrible we had to return one plate because it tasted old and hard. Customer service is horrible. Never again will I go there read more
