First time here. Limited items. Basically, check mark off on a form what you want to order, give it to them, and they will ring you up. Cash only. There is private parking in the back. Tastes like any other dim sum place. It's a good spot to drop by if craving some basic dim sum and not wanting to do the whole sit down restaurant.

Yum!! I remember coming here as a little kid in the 80's. Old school, no seating, cash only ordering at a counter. Service is quick, prices competitive. The sesame balls are the best I've had in a long time - super crispy and chewy, and the shrimp har gow generous. we also got shrimp fried rice, shrimp and broccoli, beef and broccoli, orange chicken, shrimp noodles, veggie egg rolls, turnip cake, pork sui mai, pork buns, pineapple buns, and sponge cake. Everything was delicious.

Haven't been here in a bit. Just wanted to get a few things. We got Har Gau and Shu Mai. They were exactly as I remembered it. So happy nothing changed. It was a good size dumplings as lately I've seen other dim sum places were making dumplings smaller. This place does not disappoint. Parking is good but might be right if it gets crowded.

I was driving back home from an early brunch when I noticed the place was actually open and only had two people waiting so decided to stop by and finally give it a try. I've been curious about this place for a while but every time I get a craving for dim sum its past the serving time, so I was glad to notice it was open while I was in the area. The ordering process was quick; the pictures were helpful and the check off sheet had the prices noted per individual piece. The lady taking orders was friendly and helpful and answered questions to make ordering process smooth. I ordered the steamed pork bun, baked pork bun and pineapple buns, Har gow, Siu mai, steamed dumplings, beef broccoli and house special chow mein. Everything tasted so good and looked fresh and not overcooked. I especially enjoyed the pineapple bun. I noticed the buns coming out of the oven freshly made and smelling so good. I was amazed at how efficient they are with such a small space and little kitchen which made me appreciate the place and the food more. To get the dim sum items is fairly quick but for the other cooked items it takes longer (thankfully the lady let us know ahead of time), overall we waited 30min. They have a small parking lot in the back and a small side standing patio waiting area. No restroom noted.

Cash only. You get a paper And mark which items you want. Still need to wait for food so its not "express" But probably quicker than going to an actual restaurant and ordering there for pick up. Parking in the back for a few cars

Date of visit: December 22, 2025 Selections: B.B.Q. Pork Buns Har Gow (Shrimp) Siu Mai (Pork) Orange Chicken White Rice Experience: My husband surprised me with dim sum from this location, which was on my "Want to Go" list for a while now. He wasn't use to ordering dim sum on his own, but they gave him a slip of paper to make his selections on and brought his goodies home. Everything smelled good when opening the containers for myself. I was a bit adamant about the siu mai because it isn't my go to, but always down to try. I was definitely surprised that I actually liked this one and the har gow was pretty good as well. The B.B.Q. Pork bun was okay since I always crave more filling for these type of things and the orange chicken wasn't crispy like I thought it would be when looking at it. Overall, food is good and I would want to definitely want to go check out this location for myself in the future!

Located on a main road in monterey park with their own parking lot, this to go spot is a quick and affordable option for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. This box was 13 dollars and they are cash only but the portions speak for themself. The steamed cha siu buns were massive and fluffy order: Cha siu, shrimp ha gow, steamed rice in lotus leaf comments: parking can fill up quick so may need to street park but there are plenty on the cross road in the neighborhood

Cash only. Sunday brunch with family after church. Anytime and every time I mention dim sum, we typically drive to Monterey Park for a quick pick up. There are many local eateries in town for a better sit down experience, but if you're looking for fast service, efficient and to go options; I highly recommend Dim Sum Express. There isn't much of an ambiance to sit and eat, but it's fantastic to pick up and go. The pricing is affordable, as well. There are better Kung Pao Chicken entrees but I'd still come back and order theirs. When they named their establishment Dim Sum Express, they meant it.

IT WAS GOOD. NOT THE BEST- BUT I DID LIKE IT. Service: 5/5 CASH ONLY- the service/ the woman at the front is so nice! It was my first time there, and she didn't mind telling me what was what (most places are so impatient lol) that made the trip worth going. I love nice people ! LOL Food: 3.5/5 I ordered 1 sui mai, 1 egg tart, and 1 udon noodle combination. I liked the udon noddles, it had a great taste with some decent meat portion. I didn't like the actual Sui Mai. The meat had a lot of gritty something inside? It just wasn't enjoyable at all. The taste was also off? I wouldn't recommend getting it. The egg tart was good, but a little bland. I love that it wasn't overly sweet- but it honestly had no sweet to it at all. Like others said- it was good but not something that I really loved. All around: 4/5 Would I go back? Yes. I'd get the udon noodles and the egg tart. I also LOVE that they a smaller menu available.

Ahh, Dim Sum Express. The best Dim Sum in Monterey Park, as far as I am concerned. I stopped here earlier this week on a business raindevu in the area. After that, it was my only chance to have lunch at Dim Sum Express. I ordered some Dim Sum and Chowmein. I also like their Pork and Chicken Buns here too. You can order other foods here as well. Everything here is cheap too. It all depends how much you order. Employees here are nice, some of them do not speak English very well, but you write your orders with the pencils and tablet sheet menu that they provide on the counter. Expect to stand in a long line sometimes. Parking is very limited. Sometimes I have to park in residential areas. But all in all I love it here. Been coming here a long time.

-3.5 star for simple standard dim sum -dim sum price is for 1 item, perfect for 1 person meal without waste -quality is good, flavor is good -the sui mai is ok (passable), rest of dim sum is good -a good option if you're in a hurry and just need to satisfy your dim sum cravings Cons -CASH ONLY -limited small parking lot behind bldg Summary -decent dim sum at reasonable price -will def be back for a quick bite

To go only spot, they do cash or card lots of parking free in the back they make the food fast and have a speaker to call out your number I love that they have menu with photos on the wall along with menu cards you can fill out the exact quantities in singular number so you can order odd or smaller quantities instead of the traditional dim sum orders of 4. Lets you mix and match and get a larger variety. It looks like this spot opens later than other dim sum places to about 530pm as well according to the sign as of Dec 2024. It's packaged well, double tied and the food was hot and steaming. They also have larger entree dishes here too of classic Chinese dishes not just limited to dim sum varieties.

Ask the Community - Dim Sum Express

    Is it still CASH ONLY?

    Yes

    Is there still outdoor seating?

The benches and tables are there, but piled on top of each other. So, no. No outdoor seating.

How many pieces in one order? sold as individual pieces?

Most items on the dim sum menu were sold by piece. Some were sold as set of 4 like the steam dumpling, fried wonton, and pot stickers.

    Do you accept mobile pay?

    Cash on the barrel head

    Open for thanksgiving?

    They should be open!

Is this place open as of June 9? I call but no one picks up so I'm assuming closed? It's about a good 30 min drive for me so I want to make sure it's open before I head over.

Yes they are open! Just drove by today and there were people lined up to order.

Do they take Venmo payments? I want to avoid paying cash if possible

    Cash only

Is this place open during covid19?

They closed temporarily in April due to COVID-19 but have reopened as of May 1st. Their hours are 8am-7pm everyday as of now. You can call to order (which is preferred) or order in person as well.

How many pieces in the combo platter?

A dozen... egg roll, har gow, shiu mai, bbq pork puff, hom sui gok, & egg tart... 2 of each kind. It's worth it. I think usually $14.50 separately for $11!

    Monterey park dim sin?

    Yes Monterey park dim sum!:)

You can call in to request a reservation for large parties, if not, you can join the Yelp waitlist by the front lobby area. Parking - free in a sizeable indoor parking garage to the left of the restaurant. When full, there's also street parking. Service here is pretty standard when it comes to your typical Chinese restaurant. You'll have staff designated to your area and they're pretty quick with refilling teapots and any requests. As for ordering, there's a QR code to browse the menu and order. Chinese and English are available so there shouldn't be any problems. Pictures are provided as well through the menu which is a nice plus. Food came out pretty fast, and since we were a 2 table party, each table took turns getting their dishes first. Seafood here is a great option, portions are huge for most dishes, making it perfect to share. My favorite among the dishes is certainly the Walnut Shrimp. It's a classic amongst plenty of Chinese restaurants and Lunasia is up there when it comes to quality. Overall, a decent experience, been here plenty of times for dimsum and it's always quick and quality food. Dinner was decent but nothing too over the top. It's almost always busy so plan accordingly.

This was next to. Table of 10 where each individual was just about shouting to each other as their normal tone. I did not like the ordering process which is a change from regilar dimsum places where people walk around with carts of good stuff. You have to scan a QR code to get to the menu so you don't really see what you're getting other that the picture you see on your phone. This place by the way is way pricier than actually better dimsum restaurants. So the food came out.. Pork spare ribs w/ blackbean sauce - the meat was chewy, almost tough to eat, and with a generous hint of MSG. Taro with chinese sausage - bland taro base, stale topping of supposed to be ground chinese sausage. Chicken feet - overcooked Water spinach - pale green, unfresh taste, two bites and I had yo give it up. Salt and pepper pork chop - this is ordinary at best compared to places in Monterey Park and Rowland and Hacienda Heights. Beef Chow fun - the only thing we mostly ate. Shrimp and pork siumai - I was so disappointed I list my appetite by this time. Needless to say, we felt like we wasted our $100 plus tax and tip..$120.00 + , for two prople for dimsum. We left the taro and water spinach and took home more than we ate because maybe I can tweak the left overs at home. Have I talked about the service yet? I will not because it was almost non- existent. I get it's Sunday lunch, but really? We never got the water we asked for but the oolong tea was decent. Again, very disappointing experience. I would have taken bad service with good food but bad service and bad food? One star and not a damn little spark more. Get in the game Lunasia in Alhambra!

Having grown up with NYC and SF dim sum, NBC is one of the few Los Angeles area places that has the selection and flavors of my childhood. Some favorites were the har gow, taro puffs, and tripe. We got the roast duck but it wasn't very meaty or flavorful. We got the congee which was ok, but lacked any definite personality. The chewy fried dumplings were more dough than filling. The siu mai and veggie dumplings were both solid. I didn't try the bitter melon or turnip cakes because I don't like the taste of either, but I was happy to see them available. We got a claypot rice dish with spare ribs and Chinese sausage which was good but the rice was not crispy on the bottom. Rolling cart service... with friendly efficiency from the women pushing the carts...wide variety available...many same items with choices of meat....shrimp, beef, bbq pork, chicken fillings......things meant to be hot were hot, fried things were crunchy and not greasy.. Things that were delicious: The pineapple bun with the custard filling. 5/5 The beefball, well formed, with the nicest visible chunks of water chestnuts and strong cilantro flavor...usually this meat dish has a hint of orange rind, which I don't like...so I was happy the meatball was more cilantro forward. 5/5 The long rice noodle with beef...also we had the the same with bbq pork were delish. 5/5 for all three...as we also had the shrimp one, my party ate it all up first. I didn't eat the chicken feet, but it was enjoyed by all. The siu mai were large and made with shrimp, which I can't eat, but our party of 6 enjoyed. The platterful of soy chicken was enjoyed by all, just beware the chicken head will be included if you are squeamish. The soy chicken feet, also seemed to please. No one rushed us out even though the dim sum service was over by 3 pm. We had a leisurely meal and waiters made sure to come by and refill our tea kettles. I really enjoyed Capital Seafood today. About 10 years ago, I had a bad experience with takeout roasted duck, so I avoided coming back, but things change for the better.....food was great...and clearly a lot of diners packed thr place and were smiling and laughing as they dined.... I even enjoyed watching the staff change the dining room to accommodate a large banquet later this evening, which included the assembly of a large stage/dais. Very interesting how the waiters transformed the dining room to accommodate the needs of the banquet to come. Well done staff!!

Perfect family dim sum experience for us…read more We took out my parents and in-laws for dim sum: my parents' very first time ever. We did wait about an hour, but honestly I didn't mind at all because it gave us a chance to relax, talk, and catch up as a family. Once we were seated, my parents were immediately impressed with the decor: elegant and cultural without feeling overly modern or cold. And can we talk about the tea kettles? They looked like literal pieces of art being poured at the table. Ordering was super easy with the QR code system, so my husband handled the whole spread: shumai dumplings, chicken feet, sesame balls, and more. Everything came out hot, fresh, and beautifully plated. The ENTIRE table agreed on one thing: the chili oil condiment deserves to be sold in bottles to take home. It was that good. Smoky, just the right amount of spicy, and addictive. Now for the real test: my in-laws. They've been to *many* dim sum places and are not easily impressed. They declared this place to have the best chicken feet that they've ever had: meat easily sucked off the bone, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and perfectly seasoned. High praise coming from dim sum veterans. Most importantly, my parents' first dim sum experience couldn't have been better. They loved everything from the ambiance to the food to the overall experience. My husband and I want to come back to explore more of the menu because there's clearly so much more to try

Hubby wanted to get dim sum for new year and luckily we live close to Lunasia. Like most locations,…read morethe food is pretty consistent and the servers are pretty attentive. This location is pretty spacious and even has a second floor for dining. Though we were seated inside, a lot of people were coming in and out for take out. They have a QR code to scan the menu and send your order to the kitchen. Unfortunately, they forgot our order of shumai. We had already finished eating before it even came. The waitress was kind but apparently had to bring the receipt back because the staff was claiming we already received it.
