This is a pretty solid Dillons location. It's been around for a LONG time, and I could tell walking in over the weekend that it had been updated since my college days, which is a good thing. I was on the hunt for swim diapers since we had forgotten to pack any, and I easily found them, used the self checkout, and was back on my way. No complaints here. Dillons 19 - Grocery Near Me - Lawrence, Kansas

Never been to one of these stores in my life but I insisted to check this one out since these "Dillons" are all over the area. This is basically a Kroger Store from the layout of the stores and seeing the generic characters I've seen and at Jewel - Osco back home. The place is full of unruly college kids that loiter in the store or parking lot. The food here is expensive and there lacks any sort of real deal. Staff here was friendly but the store felt completely outdated. Fair organization as well. Probably won't come back if I had a choice. read more

Dillons is usually our go to but the Lawrence locations have recently declined since COVID hit and hours were changed. We go Saturday mornings to try and beat the rush. This last weekend doors were not opened at 7:00 am. Employees are throughout the store stocking shelves and pushing around the big carts for pick up orders. The isles are barely big enough for 2 carts to go at the same time and they have displays in the tiny isles that you have to work around too. So we make our way through the store and head up to the check out. There is NEVER a lane open (besides the tobacco sales lane, and it was closed too). We overheard other customers asking the employee when there would be cashiers and she replied in another 20 minutes. There were employees standing around talking to each other about weekend plans, but no one to ring us up. We used the self checkout, which is ridiculous considering our cart was full and well over $100. There is not enough room to bag all of your food and keep it on the scale, which prompts it to stop scanning and gets the light flashing. The machine would stop and we would have to call over a customer service employee for every 10 items to check the cart. She would just swipe her card and clear the error. Then she proceeds to tell us she "does not know why this is happening". Its every 10 items, trust me, we do this every weekend. The self checkouts are convenient if you are just grabbing a few things and want to go in and out quickly. As far as a weekly shopping haul, no way. Dillons PLEASE hire more cashiers to work the checkout lanes. I am not getting the employee discount, I did not come to orientation to learn the ins and outs of these machines, because I DO NOT WORK HERE. I frequent this Dillons and the 6th and Wak location. This location is the worst. Employees can be rude and lazy. I was helping my sister and her kids one day and my sister has SNAP benefits. she used a coupon or two and when you do that using food stamps you're required to pay the sales tax for those items in cash. No biggie, the cashier tells my sister what's owed while saying you dont have enough on your benefit card to cover everything, what do you want to put back. OK so she tells all the customers in line that my sister doesn't have enough money to pay for her items and assumed she would have to put things back. My sister pulls about some cash and attempted to give her the difference owed and i said wait a minute do you pride yourself by embarrassing customers with SNAP? People using SNAP help pay you your wages. Well by now a manager is there and ended up zeroing out the balance because i said just leave it all, about $400 worth of food. And let her have fun putting up. We also got a $20 gift card. read more

It's just a grocery store, right? It's just like all the other grocery stores in town, too. This Dillon's is one of four Dillon's in Lawrence. Somehow, though, this Dillons is different. Very different. I go here often to avoid working from home between semester breaks. They have a wonderful room with comfy tables and chairs, wifi, plenty of charging outlets and two televisions. It's a dining area but many people come here throughout the day for meetings, to read or to watch a game on tv. I go here to grade papers and get caught up on paperwork. There is a Starbucks a few steps away and plenty of food options. Dillons has gone out of their way to provide a welcoming area for people. This Dillon's had many selections that the other three stores do not offer. They have cookware and a wonderful cheese shop. Their deli area is bigger and there are just more options and amenities overall. read more

Dillon's sends customers Manufacturer and Store coupons every month in the mail on certain items. Then Dillon's run weekly sales and some of these happen to be for some of these "coupon" items. They also have weekly digital coupons you download through their app. or you use their customer card. The store gets reimbursed on the Manufacturer coupons by the manufacturer however you cannot use the coupons on sale items regardless of Manufacturer or Store coupons. I think this is misleading as hell! Why send out a coupon in the first place? I feel like the customer gets cheated. I've noticed this happens at other grocery stores (not Dillon's) as well. Aren't there consumer protection laws against this kind of thing? I would hope so. Just tired of companies trying to screw the customer over at every turn. Tired of having to talk to the manager to see if they honor the coupon, sometimes yes, sometimes no. The coupon got me in the door, give me the discount. I can't help it you decided to put something on sale. I also notice some of the coupons I receive are for items the store doesn't even carry. WTF? A form of bait and switch? read more

So, in comparison to their other store in town, it would warrant four stars, but I cannot, under any circumstances, see myself giving a giant supermarket chain like this anything more than three stars. Unless they carried alcohol. But, this is Kansas. Missouri supermarkets carry alcohol, Kansas supermarkets do not. This Dillons is *way* better than the one in my 'hood. It's also a lot cleane and has far less crack addicts and alcoholics milling the aisles and screaming at their children. But- I prefer my neighborhood to the one that this Dillons is located in, so there. It is huge. It has aisles devoted to things like soda (or "pop" as most folks call it here) and don't get me started on the entire aisles of crackers and cookies (yet, if you're looking for specialty ethnic food, you're SOL unless you consider La Choy suitable for Chinese food). Needless to say, I had a major freakout in here moments after I I entered. I was overwhelmed by the cereal aisle. The processed meats aisle made me break out in hives. BTW, If you realize by the time you're leaving that you forgot something, you're probably not going to go back in. At least, if you're me and you hate supermarkets. Dillons does nothing to alleviate my supermarket phobia and I would do anything to avoid it. read more

They don't even bother to enforce their mask requirement; I would advise Dillons that it actually isn't difficult. All you have to do is politely ask the customer to please wear a mask. You have a sign at the front that says it's required but then people regularly do nothing and this is happening in front of the eyes of your own staff. My family and I have been loyal customers for over 20 years and you barely bother to take the mask precaution seriously. read more

I dubbed this the "swanky Dillon's". Opposite of the "dirty D". Great lay out, easy to navigate. Love the cheese & olive bar, deli, would love to have Wheatfields breads, but oh well. Produce always plentiful and a healthy selection. Only downfall is they seem to run out of stuff often- usually stuff like the good hotdogs . Or I'm shopping the day before restock. Would be a plus if there was a cafe with cocktails. read more

This place was my saving grace while visiting Lawrence. If your from Florida it's comparable to publix, if your from the south it comparable to Harris Teeter. I stayed for work training for a week and didn't want to go out to eat everyday so I would pop in here and get fresh sushi, salad, soup, home style meals (chicken with sides of either carrots, mac n cheese, mashed potatoes, corn or green beans), they also have Chinese food and fresh sandwiches. Everything was reasonably priced for meals on the go. They have a great bakery section with fresh cookies, cakes & donuts. There is a Starbucks inside and nice florist area. Anything you would expect to find at your favorite local chain grocery store they have. Staff was friendly and helpful. Store was always clean and well kept. Really liked Dillons; if I ever move out of my region and leave my favorite grocery store behind, I'll look for another dillons in its place! read more

Having grown up in Kansas, I've been to all types of Dillon's stores. From the tiny old ones to the new shiny ones like this one. As far as supermarkets go, this Dillon's is awesome! Note, this Dillon's does not have a large selection of furniture like the one in Wichita at Central & Rock. However, it does sell some furniture and home-ware items. It also has a Capitol Federal in it! My favorite little bank. The people who work here are very nice. They often try to have conversations with me when I shop here. This is probably due to the fact that this Dillon's is rarely crazy busy. Due to the size of the store, they carry some harder to find products. I especially enjoy shopping in the organic section (many products are quite a bit cheaper than the beloved, but overpriced Merc) and the bulk section. I have yet to see a bulk section in other Dillon's but it's great to have! They also have a very nice cheese section and even sell membrillo (quince paste). I've been waiting for that to go on sale forever.... I know that this store is considered to be on the edge of Lawrence but it provides a far more delightful experience than the other Dillon's stores in town. read more

I have to give big KUDO's to the bakery department. I placed a order for a huge grad party; 3 huge specialty cakes- one being a photo cake, & two very detailed school mascot cakes, and a bunch of super cute cupcakes also a special design. Everything was perfect. Lanny was fantastic, all I had to do was show him a picture of the style I wanted. He arranged delivery and had everything set up for the party. The cost was very reasonable and the cake and cupcakes received so many compliments and were absolutely delicious. Thank you all! read more

When getting gas there is rarely a line and using the Dillion's points makes the price for gas lower, also the Dillion's gas rewards are much more rewarding than the Hyvee gas rewards programs. In the Dillion's grocery store is well stocked with the exception of the meat department, which I find somewhat lacking. The store is clean and the employees are helpful, I have also never been in a long line at the register. read more

This is the best Dillons in Lawrence. I love the salad and olive bar. I have actually taken someone here for lunch before. There is a gigantic seating area that you can take advantage of if you want to sit and eat lunch there. This used to be my favorite store, but sadly it appears they no longer want customers buying more than a few items. They have removed nearly all normal check out lanes and are down to only two normal lanes and 12 self check-out machines. These machines are designed for people who have only a few items. Obviously, they are telling customers that they don't want them buying more than that. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that they now cater to customers with only a few items and discourage buying more than that. I expected using the normal kind of check out and filled my basket. When ready to check out, the line of people with full baskets went clear down the aisles for the two regular registers that were open. Yet, no one was using any of the 12 self-check machines. My basket was full partly because I had selected many items promoted with coupons. Seeing the long lines for the two regular registers and no one at the 12 self check machines, I decided it would be faster to use the self check machines. Moreover, the wonderful attendant kindly offered to assist me. She was a big help, but using the machine was extremely slow and took over ten minutes. Yet, it was probably faster than waiting in either of the two long regular check out lanes. Even so, this put me ten minutes late for my appointment, so I didn't have time and forgot to use my coupons. Thus, I lost $60 in coupons, bought many items I probably wouldn't have bought. Being late for my appointment cost me another $50. I think the store is good if you only buy a few items, but obviously, they want you limit the number of items you buy. read more

Do not shop here. I have gotten food poisoning 4 times in the last few months from their food. My husband bought some fruit from there just the other day and the sell by date is for February 10th I went to eat some for breakfast today because i thought it was just coincidence that i got sick but today confirmed that i got food poisoning cuz. it smelled sour and gross.I had eaten some just the other day and right after I started violently throwing up. their yogurt is no good either, I just got sick off some tofu that I had got from there last month. they need to have a care about what they are selling to their customers. It is ridiculous that just about everytime I have bought groceries from there it has made me very sick. So be careful read more
